Richard T. White, age 86 of Jerome, passed away on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Care Link of Jackson. Funeral services are pending at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
Cynthia Tremonti Bosio
Cynthia Tremonti Bosio, age 53 years of Somerset, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at Clarklake with Father Lehr Barkenquest, O. S. F. S., officiating. Cremation will follow. A private family intermenty of her ashes will take place at the church columbarium at a later date.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 6 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
Lois Ann Glancy
Lois Ann Glancy, age 75 years of Brooklyn, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. She was born on Sept. 30, 1931, the daughter of Lamar and Minetta (Schnippe) Brown in Tecumseh. Lois was a lifelong resident of the Onsted-Brooklyn area. She married Loraine “Rainey” G. Glancy on Nov. 26, 1948, in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1992.
Lois retired from Meijer’s after 20 plus years of service. She enjoyed old movies, jigsaw puzzles, the Budweiser Clydesdales, heavyweight Belgian horse pulls and she loved to cook. She is going to be dearly missed.
Lois is survived by her four children, Richard (Mary Ann) Glancy of Brooklyn, Jackie (Mike) VanLoocke of Blissfield, Pete (Dianna) Glancy of Onsted and Stan Glancy of Brooklyn ; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Jack E. Brown.
Funeral Services for Lois will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Interment will follow at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Joseph Etele Istvan
Joseph Etele Istvan, age 89, of Brooklyn, “went home to be with his wife” and his Lord on Jan. 8, 2007 at Jackson ’s W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
Istvan was born Feb. 28, 1917 in Detroit, Mich. to Joseph and Anna (Apáthy), both Hungarian immigrants. He married Eileen Alice Block on Nov. 28, 1943. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge he spent the first 30 years of his married life truck farming in the New Boston area. In the early 1960s, he was recognized by WJAR radio for being the first farmer to use black plastic mulch in a commercial operation and for his introducing hybrid seedless watermelons to Wayne County. He also maintained a vineyard of specialty grapes. After Interstate 75 took over the family farm, he worked at Garwood Industries in Ypsilanti before retiring to Reed City, Mich. During the next 20 years, he and Eileen gardened and helped create the Cadillac Farmer's Market. They moved to Brooklyn in 1992.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Ronald) Kopp of Brooklyn and Beverly (Arthur Seward Jr.) Istvan of Jacskon; three grandchildren, Christina Kopp of Brooklyn, Wyatt Istvan-Mitchell and fiance Lindsey Seyferth of Northville, and Warren Istvan Mitchell of Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Ronald F. Kopp and Michael (Jodie) Kopp of Monroe; older sister, Anne Freeman of Southgate; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death on Nov. 17, 2006 by his wife of 63 years, Eileen Istvan; younger sister, Elizabeth; younger brothers, Andrew Istvan of Monroe and Dennis Istvan of Belleville.
During his life, he was a member of the Willow United Methodist Church, the Reed City United Methodist Church and lastly the Napoleon United Methodist Church. He loved working in his greenhouse, vegetable garden, fishing and hunting and sharing his plants, harvests, catches and game. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial celebrating his life will be held at the Napoleon United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Stover officiating. Joe requested all memorial contributions to be given to the Napoleon United Methodist Church.
Francis B. Allen
Francis B. Allen, age 91, of Jackson passed away at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility on Jan. 1, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Suydam Allen; daughter, Glenadine; granddaughter, Terry Saterlee; sister, Mable Caulfield; brother, Harry Allen. Surviving are five children, Gloria J. (Jerry) Sheets of Munith, Gorden Allen of Concord, Geraldine Baker of Las Vegas, Judy (Louie) Hampton of Jackson and Carole (Jerry) Tefft of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Huizenga of Ann Arbor; several nieces and nephews.
Francis was an employee of Goodyear Tire, a longtime farmer and an Amway distributor. He was a member of the Cement City Baptist Church, where funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, Pastor Drew Woods officiating. Interment was at Sanford Cemetery in Woodstock Township. For those who wish, contributions in memory of Francis to the Cement City Baptist Church Mission Fund would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements were made by the Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home in Michigan Center.
Doris Louise Bly
Doris Louise Bly, age 89, a resident of the Brooklyn Living Center, passed away Jan. 2, 2007 at Bixby Medical Center. Doris was born Oct. 19, 1917 in DeKalb, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Rosella (Howland) Fleming. She married Harold H. Bly and he preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1979.
Doris was a member of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Adrian. Raised on a farm, Doris was one of the few women of the times to go to college, and have both a career and a family. From her roots in a one-room schoolhouse to the halls of Whitehead Elementary, Doris’ love of learning and teaching touched hundred of children. Her avid interest in world events, aptitude at puzzles and cards, and love of people always led Doris to the center of her circle of family, friends and even strangers. She teaches us still, in memories of her strength, her humor and her kindness.
Mrs. Bly is survived by her daughters, Connie (Gary) Borton of Gowen, Mich. and Carole (David) Schwinn of Brooklyn. She was the loving grandmother of Cathleen Logan of Owosso, Lori (Michael) Wilberding of Gowen, Kristi (Michelle Clossick) Hannan of Toledo, Randy Hannan of Lansing, Susan (Chad) Miller of Snohomish, Wash. and Lisa (Kevin) Connors of Berkley, Mich., step-grandmother of six and great-grandmother of 14. She was also the dear sister of Joyce Jacobson of Leland, Ill. and Wanda Barkman of Greenville, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church in Adrian, Reverend Richard Rentner officiating. Burial was at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Terry E. Foster
Terry E. Foster, age 59, of Addison passed away at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2007.
He was born on July 5, 1947 in Hudson to Norman E. and Joyce (Stiverson) Foster. Terry lived in the Addison area all his life. He graduated from Addison High School in 1965 and then he attended Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. for two years. He was employed at Peerless Gear in Clinton, retiring after 30 years of employment, and he also farmed all his life. He was a member of the Jackson Eagles Lodge, and the Somerset Congregational Church. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
Surviving are one daughter, Deborah J. (Brian) Stanley of Addison, one son, Christopher E. Foster of Jerome, four grandchildren, his mother, Joyce A. Foster of Addison, three brothers, Douglas E. (Karen) Foster of Laingsburg, Mich., Robert J. (Colleen) Foster of Addison, Mark A. (Debbie) Foster of Manitou Beach, one sister, Kathleen M. (Jack) Hassenzahl of Addison, several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at the Somerset Congregational Church, with Pastor Jack Hassenzahl officiating. Services were entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Somerset Congregational Church.
Elizabeth Jane (Stockford) Davis
Elizabeth Jane (Stockford) Davis, age 72, life-long resident of Brooklyn, passed away suddenly on December 23, 2006, in Hope Mills, NC. Jane was born on March 31, 1934 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Clifford and Alma (Miller) McKinney. Mrs. Davis was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Jane was a member of the Women’s Society and Joy Class at Highlands Baptist Church. She was also an amazing cook and quilter and shared her gifts with many. Mrs. Davis will be sadly missed by her loving children, Judy (Paul) Blackburn of Brooklyn, Jane (Mark) Arnett of Hope Mills, NC, Gary (Julie) Stockford of Virginia and Terry Stockford of Alabama; 10 grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great grandsons; brothers, Ben (Mary Lou) McKinney of Brooklyn, Harry (Lana) McKinney of New Hampshire and Dick McKinney of Napoleon; sisters, Gloria Roy of Brooklyn and Dessie (Norris) Pentland of Texas.
Memorial donations may be given to Highlands Baptist Church or Clarklake Community Church. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, Brooklyn, where a healing farewell was held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, with Pastor Michael Boarts officiating.
Dolores A. Dettling
Dolores A. Dettling, age 84, residing at Adrian Grand Court Home, passed away on Dec. 24, 2006, with her family present. Dolores was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Plymouth, Mich., the daughter of Russell and Elizabeth (Irene) Dettling. She married Victor H. Dettling on Oct. 12, 1946. They celebrated their 60th anniversary with a renewal of vows and a service performed by Father Pat Lowery, of Lenawee County Hospice.
Dolores was a life-long resident of Manchester and member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Manchester for 60 years and previous Altar Society member. Dolores was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Dettling is survived by her children, Janis Lamey of Onsted, Gloria (Bob) Mann of Plymouth, Ind., Karl Dettling of Manchester, Barry (Liz) Dettling of Huntington, Ind. and Robert Dettling (fiancée Gale Schmenk) of Manchester; grandchildren, Julie (Brady) Arnett, Ron Brady, Heather (Lamey) Lomazzo, Dr. Eric Lamey, Austen and Grahm Dettling; great grandchildren, Joshua Sexton and Kortney and Dominick Lomazzo.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Lenawee or Catholic masses scheduled for Dolores Dettling. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel, Manchester. A healing farewell took place at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, with Father Patrick Lowery, SSC officiating. Interment St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Barbara Ann Greening
Barbara Ann Greening, age 59, of Brooklyn, died on Dec. 26, 2006, in Toledo following a short illness. Born on Aug. 11, 1947 in Carbon Hill, Ala., she was the daughter of Aaron Colburn and Geraldine Yoakum. She graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1965 and was the 1963 FRHS Snowball Queen. She married John R. Greening on Oct. 26, 1998.
Barbara was employed at Artesian Wells and was a member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary #315 in Brooklyn and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3689 in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband, John of Brooklyn; mother, Geraldine King of Ida; son, Gregory (Heather) Fraunhoffer Jr. of Pointe Place, Ohio; stepson, Benjamin Greening of Monroe; daughters, Kimberly (David) Beasinger of New Boston, Monique (Daniel) Dunderman of New Port Richey, Fla. and Jamie Lee Fraunhoffer of Monroe; step-daughters, Nickole (Edward) Jude of Medina, Ohio and Kara Rachel Greening and Rebecca L. Greening both of Monroe; brother, Ronald Colburn of Houston, Texas; sisters, Linda (Edward) Hanner of Newport and Donna Reaume of West Branch, Mich.; and six grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Aaron.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe, Mich., with Rev. Christine Barnes of Brooklyn Presbyterian Church officiating. She will be buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Mich.

Merland A. Mattis
Merland A. Mattis, age 90, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away on Dec. 26, 2006, at South Big Horn Co. Critical Care Hospital near Greybull, Wyo. He has resided in Greybull for the last three-and-a-half years with his son Dave and family.
Merland was born on Dec. 22, 1916, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harlow and Gertrude (Ives) Mattis. He was the second oldest of six children, three boys and three girls. Only his sister Louise survives in Nevada. Merland married Harriet Evangeline Nelson on May 22, 1940, in Ohio and they had three children, Diane Dowell of Niceville, Fla., Keith (Diana) of Tecumseh, and Dave (Kay) of Greybull, Wyo. Harriet passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s on March 23, 2001. Merland and Harriet had eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and just recently he was able to meet and hold his first great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet; two brothers; and 2 sisters. Merland was a builder by trade and much of his talent and handiwork can still be seen around the Brooklyn and Wamplers Lake area. He loved his work and passed those talents on to his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. He was a quiet man with strong hands and up to the week before he passed away, he still worked at his hobby of making toaster tongs. He adapted to the western way of life after moving to Wyoming in 2003. He loved the mountains and wildlife. He especially loved watching the birds and squirrels in his yard. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services for the Wyoming family and friends were held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull. Funeral services are also planned at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. Memorial donations may be given to the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel where family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Joseph R. Basydlo
Joseph R. Basydlo of Addison, passed away at his home on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the age of 59, under the loving care of his wife’s family and Hospice of Lenawee. A special thanks to Hospice of Lenawee and caregivers, Gary Rowlson, Dale Rowlson and Norma Clark. Joe put up a courageous fight for over eight years with prostate cancer. He was a loving husband and father and he will be greatly missed.
Joe was a 1965 graduate of Pinckney High School and graduated in 1968 from Jackson Business University in Jackson with a degree in Accounting. Upon graduation he worked seven years for Bond & Company as a staff accountant. In 1977 he moved to Missouri where he worked as a staff accountant for Standard Milling Company before starting to work in the construction field of accounting with Geo P. Reintjes Company, C.L. Fairley Construction Company and finally Suburban Contractors, Inc. until April 1995 when he moved back to Michigan and the Addison area. He then worked for Michigan South Central Power Agency in Litchfield for 7 years. Joe was one of the biggest football fans of the University of Michigan.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Patricia Rowlson; twin brother, Ronald Basydlo; brother, Stanley Basydlo: and a sister, Jolene Wiles. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Rowlson) Basydlo of 11 years; his parents, Joseph P. and Mavis (Cheney) Basydlo of Pinckney; parents-in-law, Dale Rowlson and Norma Clark of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; son, Cameron Basydlo of Sherman Oaks, Calif., step son, Ryan (Melanie) Haskell of Brooklyn; two brothers, Victor (Pat) Basydlo of Pinckney and Terry Basydlo of Pinckney; two sisters, Donna (Ned) Palmer of Dexter and Louise (Walt) Thorne of Martin, Tenn.; two brothers-in-law, Randy (Glenda) Rowlson of Brooklyn and Gary Rowlson of Jonesville; and several nieces and nephews.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services or visitation hours. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
