Jack Nicely

Solon Township resident Jack Nicely died Jan. 27 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was 81.
Born Aug. 28, 1921, in Akron, Michigan for a number of years and served as CEO of the Professional Standards Review Organization.
He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Traverse City. He loved all animals, especially dogs.
He is also survived by two sons, William (Jeanette) Nicely of Huntington Beach, Ohio, David Lautner of Long Beach, Washington state.
Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
Theodore J. Kabot

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City for Elmwood Township resident Theodore J. Kabot, who died at home on Jan. 31. He was 87.
He was born on April 19, 1915, in Cedar, the son of Joseph and Selma (Schopieray) Kabot. On Oct. 26, 1944, in Cedar, he married the former Clara B. Rice, who preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2002.
Mr. Kabot was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army. He retired from Leelanau Fruit Company and has been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since 1945. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but especially enjoyed dancing.
Surviving are his children, Larry (Paulette Pleva) Kabot, Ronald (Sue Penfold) Kabot, and Rosalinda (Claude) Ockert, all of Traverse City; a brother, Anthony (Mary) Kabot of Richmond, Mich.; sisters Bernadine Galla and Germaine (Edward) Garvin, both of Cedar, and Rosemary (Mel) Varney of Indiana University in 1948 with a degree in finance and banking and joined Galloway Services, a credit clearinghouse for banks and finance companies.
In 1952, Mr. Galloway married Lucia Harvey of Barrington, R.I., and raised four children-Nancy, Susan, Randy and Elisabeth- in Park Forest and Olympia Fields, Ill. The Galloways moved to Traverse City in 1965 when Mr. Galloway became vice president of Empire National Bank. He was also involved in the formation of the Bay Store in Acme, and invested in Jellystone Camping Resort.
In 1982, Mr. Galloway married Rene Banghart of Interlochen and joined Dick Smith and Company in 1984 as an associate broker. He served as a board member at the Leelanau School, and was a past president of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Grand Traverse.
He and his wife were frequent visitors of Sunsites, which became their permanent home in 2001.

Patricia Ann Bushell

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay for Patricia Ann Bushell of Traverse City who died Jan. 17 at Munson Medical Center. She was 63.
She was born Nov. 16, 1939, in Traverse City, the daughter of Harry F. and Marguerite Rachel (Calhoun) Bushell.
She attended St. Mary’s School in Lake Leelanau and Leland Public School. She graduated from both Northwestern Michigan. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City.
She is survived by her mother, Marguerite Calhoun of Lake Leelanau; her brother, Vernon Fredrick (Karen) Lawson; and her granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry, and her brother Harry F. Bushell III.
Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department or to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Kenneth Bartell

Lake Leelanau resident Kenneth Bartell died Jan. 17 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center in Northport. He was 85.
He was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Reynold T. and Minnie (Kegelman) Bartell. On Dec. 28, 1951, in Angola, Ind., he married the former Pauline Fern Detro, who survives.
Mr. Bartell was a retired carpenter.
Also surviving are his son Earl Bartell, his daughter Margerie Brown, and five grandchildren.
