Leona Frances Basch

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City for Glen Arbor resident Leona Frances Basch who Jan. 18 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center in Northport. She was 87.
Born in Empire on June 14, 1915, she was the daughter of Jay and Florence Vanderlip. Her husband, Franklin, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Basch resided in Glen Arbor most of her life. She spent most of her time caring for her family and their farm house. She also had a summer laundry business and tended a garden.
Surviving is her granddaughter, Gretchen (David) Mouland; a sister, Luella Gray; and two great-grandsons.
Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Cheryl; brother, Lucean “Sonny” Vanderlip, and sister, Gloria Macki.
Visitation is scheduled beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, prior to the 2 p.m. service.

Harold Neddo

Former Maple City resident Harold Neddo died Dec. 17 in Auburn Hills. He was 82.
Mr. Neddo was born on April 17, 1917, the son of Charles and Clarissa Neddo.
He graduated from Maple City High School in 1936, and was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda of Auburn Hills; four brothers, Clifford of Florida, and Clarence (Evelyn) Neddo, Howard (Dorothy) Neddo and Wesley (Lorraine) Neddo, all of Maple City.

Lita Hagen Oltman

Northport native Lita Marilyn Hagen Oltman died Dec. 7 at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. She was 73.
Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Northport, she was the daughter of Anna Laura (Garthe) and John Hagen. On Aug. 16, 1952, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Northport, she married John H. Oltman, who survives.
She graduated from Northport High School in 1947. She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1951. Her varied employment included work as a linotype operator at the Leelanau Enterprise, as a homemaker during the 1950s through 1970s, and as a legal secretary at the firm of Oltman & Flynn in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
She was a 35-year resident of Fort Lauderdale where she was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. A memorial service took place there Dec. 14.
Also surviving are her sons David of Orlando, Fla., and John of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter Laura of Phillipsburg, N.J.; brothers Issac Hagen of Northport, Grant Hagen of Arlington, Va., Franklin Hagen of Celina, Ohio; sister Esther Yeates of East Lansing and Frankfort; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her sister Joan Munro of Elk Rapids, and her brothers Frederick Hagen and James Hagen of Traverse City.

Martha F. Crandell

Martha F. Crandell of Traverse City died Dec. 31, 2002, at French Manor. She was 85.
She was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Grand Ledge, the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Sprague) Felton. On June 8, 1941, in Lansing, she married Bernard W. Crandell who preceded her in death in January 2000.
Mrs. Crandell was a member of the United Methodist Church of Birmingham and was also a member of Questors.
Surviving are her sons Bill (Lucy) Crandell of Suttons Bay and Jon (Marilyn) Crandell of Rochester Hills; daughter Sue (Bob) Feldwisch of Columbia, Mo.; sister Esther Hemingway of St. Johns; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen; and a sister, Ruth Rauden.
At her request, cremation has taken place, with her remains to be interred in the Church Garden of the United Methodist Church of Birmingham, along with those of her husband.

Matthew John Konold

Matthew John Konold of Traverse City died Dec. 7 at Munson Medical Center. He was 74.
Mr. Konold was born on July 31, 1925, the son of Matthew John and Bess (Jamieson) Konold. In Detroit in 1951, he married Sally Stonehouse.
He graduated from Leelanau Schools in Glen Arbor and Michigan State University, and worked with Belfour-Stulen Company as a computer program workshop instructor with Grand Traverse Project. Mr. Konold lived in Suttons Bay for many years, and was elected Suttons Bay treasurer. He was an expert in photography and computers.
Surviving are four children, Katherine Hill of Ispheming, Mary Rupert of Lake Leelanau, Ann LaBonte of Traverse City and John Matthew Konold of Kokomo, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and his former wife, Sally, of Traverse City.
No services are planned at this time.
D’Etta Gauthier Streb

A Memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Leelanau for former resident D’Etta “Dolly” Gauthier Streb who died Dec. 25, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was 85.
She was born Jan. 17, 1916 in Joplin, Mo. In 1994, in Leelanau County, she married Gregory F. Streb of New Port Richey, Fla., who survives.
Formerly a longtime resident of Lake Leelanau, she was very active, along with her late husband Robert Gauthier, in building the Veterans of Foreign Wars facility there. She was also very involved with the St. Mary’s parish chicken dinners. As a cancer survivor, she also worked for the American Cancer Society of Leelanau County.
After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, she made her home in Florida.
Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Margaret (John) Bufka of Traverse City; sister, Wanda (Hank) Beaudoin of Florida; brother, Pal Sears; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren
Also preceding her in death were a brother, a sister, a grandson, a granddaughter and her only child, son Robert M. Sophiea of Lake Leelanau.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Church building fund, or to St. Vincent De Paul of Traverse City.
Daniel Schopieray

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 12 in Traverse City for Daniel “Todd” Schopieray who died in Leelanau County on Dec. 8. He was 32.
He was born July 17, 1970, in Traverse City to Daniel J. and Linda J. (Kuchmuk) Schopieray.
Mr. Schopieray was employed with Great lakes Striping and Sealing Co., and previously had been employed at Redman Automotive. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
He is survived by his father, Dan (Mable) Schopieray of Buckley; his mother, Linda (Bill Geroux) Griffis of Traverse City; three sisters, Michelle Arney of Alaska, Shannon Griffis of Traverse City and Connie Jablonski of Texas; and his brother, Shawn Griffis of Traverse City.
