Carl Robert Alpers

A memorial service was held yesterday in Hot Springs, Ark., for former Leelanau County resident Carl Robert Alpers who died at home Nov. 30 in Arkansas. He was 73.
Mr. Alpers was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Traverse City to Walter and Bernice (Stites) Belanger and adopted by his aunt and uncle, Henry and Lucy (Belanger) Alpers in 1934. In Northport on March 13, 1954, he married Georgia Kiersey of Omena, who survives.
He served in the Army, then moved to Petoskey in 1955 where he owned an operated a trailer park. He also worked as an engineer on a ship and as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Petoskey before retiring to Arkansas.
Mr. Alpers loved to fish and camp. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs.
Also surviving are his son, Robert Alpers of Petoskey; three daughters, Brenda (Robert) Johns and Marcia (Randy) Fosmore of Petoskey, and Debra (Philip) Boeve of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; two stepbrothers, Kneale Alpers of Muskegon and James (Shirley) Alpers of Suttons Bay; a sister, Maxine McLeod of Florida; many grandchildren, and a great grandson.

Anne Ayres Taylor

Private family services have been held in Indiana for longtime Leland seasonal resident Anne Ayers Taylor who died Nov. 11 in Indianapolis. She was 92.
She was the granddaughter of Lyman S. Ayres, founder of the L.S. Ayres and Company, and the widow of Dr. Frederic W. Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor was a civic leader and director of the Goodwill Foundation of Central Indiana. She was also a member of the founders board of the Indianapolis Zoo. She received an honorary doctorate of humanities degree from Martin University.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leelanau Historical Museum, the Leelanau Conservancy, or to a charity of one’s choice.
Donald C. Boyce

Memorial services were to be held at 11 a.m. today at the Presbyterian Church at 701 Westminster Rd. in Traverse City for former Lime Lake area resident Donald C. Boyce who died Nov. 30 at home in Novi. He was 67.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann, daughters Mary and Sarah, sons Andy and Peter, and eight grandchildren.
Lesley Ann McCarthy

Graveside services were held yesterday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lake Leelanau for Lesley Ann McCarthy who died Nov. 16 at Munson Medical Center. She was 46.
Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on March 19, 1956, she was the daughter of Charles and Delores (McCan) McCarthy, who survive. On Jan. 15, 1993, in Traverse City, she married Linus Couturier who also survives.
She was a 1974 graduate of Birmingham Seaholm High School. She later earned associates degrees at Oakland Community College and Northwestern Michigan College. She worked for many years in the banking industry and pursued the paralegal profession.
She enjoyed drawing and music, traveling, and camping. Her love of lakes, woods, nature and family brought her to live in Lake Leelanau in the early 1990’s. She authored a book for children called “Out and About on Little Brook Farm.”
Also surviving is her daughter Ashley; and three brothers, Mike McCarthy of Birmingham, Dan (Amy) McCarthy of Grand Rapids, and Pat (Lou Ann) McCarthy of Davisburg.
A celebration of her life was held at Little Brook Farm following the graveside services yesterday.
John P. Rosenfield

A memorial Mass will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City for Suttons Bay resident John P. Rosenfield who died Jan. 10 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was 83.
Born March 22, 1919, in Dearborn, he was the son of John F. and Gertrude (Thibodeau) Rosenfield. On Feb. 10, 1945, in Wyandotte, he married the former Edna C. Trombley, who survives.
He was a 1941 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Dearborn and worked for the Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1976 after 35 years. He had been a resident of Suttons Bay the last 25 years, and a winter resident of St. James City on Pine Island, Fla.
Over the years, he helped build three churches and was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grosse Ile, St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Suttons Bay, Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Florida, and a current member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
Also surviving is one brother, Nelson, of Culver City, Calif.; and one sister, Lorraine (Orville) Hunkapiller of Little Rock, Ark.

Lily Anna Scanlon

Private family services have been held for Lily Anna Scanlon, an infant who died Nov. 13.
She was the daughter of Scott and Lesley Scanlon of Maple City, who survive.
Also surviving are her sister, Riley Scanlon; her maternal grandparents Virgil and Virginia Goodrick of Empire; paternal grandparents Sharon Scanlon of Maple City and Dick Scanlon of Traverse City; and great grandparents Dick and Joyce Scanlon of Florida.

Edward A. Dalzell Jr.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in Traverse City for former Leelanau County resident Edward A. Dalzell Jr., who died Nov. 21 in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 86.
He was born in Leelanau County on Sept. 12, 1915, to Edward A. and Lulu M. (Durga) Dalzell.
Mr. Dalzell served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned home where he worked as a self-employed contractor.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dalzell in infancy; five brothers, Paul, Leonard, Lester, Elmer and Ralph; and three sisters, Margaret Loveland, Katherine Davis and Goldie Cuthberson.
Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City.
Francis Louis Podleski

Memorial services were planned for former Leelanau County resident Francis Louis “Frank” Podleski who died Nov. 15 in London, England. He was 68.
He was born in Solon Township on Sept. 27, 1934, the son of the late Louis S. Podleski and Anastasia (Nowak) Podleski, who survives. On Aug. 31, 1971, he married Barbara Wilson of New Zealand, who also survives.
Mr. Podleski was an architect at the London firm of Chapman and Taylor for 30 years.
Also surviving are his brothers, Richard J. Podleski, Leonard (Sharon) Podleski, and Jerry (Sue) Podleski.
