William R. Bishop

William Reaume Bishop died July 23 at his Leland home. He was 89.
Mr. Bishop was born in Detroit on June 27, 1910, the second son of Matthew H. and Mabel (Reaume) Bishop. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1932 and from the University of Ohio. He was a lifelong summer resident of the Omena/Northport area, picking cherries as a young boy to earn extra money for school. On June 2, 1945, he married Anne E. Kleemann of Cincinnati, who survives.
Mr. Centner attended the Covington Latin School and Xavier University, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1943. He served as a captain in the Army Medical Corp during the Korean War. He settled in the Kansas City area in 1953, where he practiced surgery and occupational medicine until his retirement in 1988. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgery in 1958, and was on staff at four hospitals where he held numerous titles. He was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Church in Prairie Village, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Also surviving are three daughters, Dr. Mary E. (Douglas) Brothers of Lansing, Kans., Mrs. Kathy A. (Dan) Tilson of Prairie Village and Sr. Pat Francis Centner OSF, of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; a brother, James L. (Naomi) Centner of Northport; a sister, Rosemary L. Centner of Cincinnati; and one grandson.

Audrey Lang

Funeral services were held Sunday at Leland Community United Methodist Church for Audrey Lang, who died July 29 at her Leland home. She was 88.
Mrs. Lang was born on Sept. 2, 1910, the daughter of Kenneth and Mathilda (Dunneback) Glendenning. On Sept. 7, 1935, in Windsor, Ontario, she married Fred J. Lang, who preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1996.
Mrs. Lang was a member of Leland Community United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Kent Lang of Auburn Hills and Alan Lang of Barnardsville, N.C.; daughter Jean Lang of Leland; eight grandchildren; and one great-gradndaughter.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Ross Lang, and a brother, Clyde Glendenning.
Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Leland Community United Methodist Church.
Louis B. Raynor

Memorial services will be announced next week for Leland resident Louis Benjamin Raynor, who died July 29 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He was 82.
Mr. Raynor was born in West Hampton, Long Island, Michigan State University professor of ceramics. He was a longtime South Manitou Island landowner and resident who became a full-time resident of Leland upon his retirement in 1979.
Also surviving are his children, Ramon L. Raynor, Fletcher M. Raynor, Ebba S. Raynor, Nels E. Raynor, Beatrice Furmann, Robert Storer, Sandra Storrer and Chris Macey; a brother, Marvin Raynor; a sister, Louise Raynor; and eight grandchildren.

Gaylord Kyser

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church for Gaylord Kyser, who died at his Maple City farm on Aug. 2. He was 70.
Mr. Kyser was born in Mt. Pleasant on July 11, 1929, the son of James and Agnes Kyser. At Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, in 1967 he married Edith Dafne Agosto, who survives.
Mr. Kyser came to Leelanau County as a child with his parents, and attended Kasson Center District School. He graduated from Traverse City High School in 1946. He worked aboard Atlantic Coast merchant ships, and was a member of the Naval Reserve aboard the U.S.S. Tulare (AKA 112). He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 1964-1966.
Also surviving are two step-daughters, Mayra Rivera and Ruth Rivera, both of Traverse City; a step-son, Cesar Rivera of Lansing; and two sisters, Isabella Kyser of Traverse City and Joy Smeltekop of Suttons Bay.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Kasson Township.
James 'Jack' Send

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Martinson Funeral Home for Suttons Bay resident James "Jack" Fredrick Send, who died July 25 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He was 77.
Mr. Send was born in Suttons Bay on Sept. 9, 1921, the son of Fredrick and Marie (Husby) Send. In 1944 in Suttons Bay he married Pauline Marie Oberlin, who survives.
Mr. Send was a retired manager for Mills Paper Co. in Traverse City. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay.
Also surviving is a sister, Doris Keeder of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Send.
Visitation was held from 4-6 and 7-9 p.m. yesterday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
Henry B. Kinzie

A memorial service was held Tuesday for Leland resident Henry B. Kinzie, who died July 24 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He was 80.
Mr. Kinzie was born in Detroit on April 13, 1919, the son of Julian Magill and Marguerito (Flower) Kinzie. On Sept. 14, 1946, in Grosse Pointe Farms, he married Anne H. Gard, who survives.
Mr. Kinzie was a salesman and co-owner of a manufacturers representative's organization. He was a member of Yondetega Club of Detroit, Leland Country Club, Leland Yacht Club, former president of the Country Club of Detroit and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City. He served in the National Guard starting in 1940, and had active service in the Pacific until his discharge as a captain in the Army.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Y. Kinzie of Las Vegas, Nev., and William M. (Marle) Kinzie of Traverse City; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Julian.
Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Leelanau Conservancy, Leelanau Memorial Health Center or Grand Traverse Area Hospice.
Ever Leonard Everson

Funeral services were held Saturday at Martinson Funeral Home for Suttons Bay resident Ever Leonard Everson, who died July 22 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He was 89.
Mr. Everson was born in Suttons Bay on Oct. 7, 1909, the son of Lars and Anna (Amundson) Everson.
Mr. Everson served in the Army during campaigns in northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe during World War II. He received the victory medal, American theater ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern theater ribbon with four bronze battle stars, two overseas service bars and the good conduct medal.
He retired from the Leelanau County Road Commission and was a member of First Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay.
Surviving are a sister, Evelyn Alma Holsather of Suttons Bay; and two brothers. Elmer Everson of Suttons Bay and Roy Everson of Grawn.
Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church or the Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire and Rescue.
Lillian Weiler Hansen

Burial will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in East Leland Cemetery for Leland native Lillian Weiler Hansen, who died July 6 at Regional Medical Center in Bayonet, Fla. She was 90.
She was born in Leland on Feb. 23, 1909, the daughter of Frank and Nettie Steffens Weiler.
She worked for Florida after retiring.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilford and Lloyd Weiler; and two sisters, Gladys Alpers and Marian Mihulka.
Pastor Koehler will officiate the ceremony.
