Evelyn Kropp

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Good Harbor for Evelyn “Eleanor” Kropp who died Tuesday at Maple Valley Nursing Home. She was 97.
She was born April 6, 1905, in Chicago, the daughter of John Henry and Zena (Steiger) Dechow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur C. Kropp, on Oct. 11, 1983.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Point Oneida Club.
Surviving are her three children, Arlene (Robert) Dean of Old Mission, Leonard (Evelyn) Kropp of Traverse City; and Audrey (Charles) Gebow of Denver; sister Ida Penfold; half sister Eileen Dechow and half brother Donald (Gerry) Dechow; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her son Eugene in 1952.

Richard J. Pawlowicz

1931-2002
A memorial Mass was celebrated Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City for former Suttons Bay resident Richard “Paul” Joseph Pawlowicz, who died Sept. 19 at Munson Medical Center. He was 71.
Born May 23, 1931, in Detroit, he was the son of Joseph and Adela Pawlowicz. On April 27, 1964, in Detroit, he married the former Harriet “Terre” Regulinski, who survives.
Mr. Pawlowicz graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1949, and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He and his wife relocated to Suttons Bay to raise their family. For 35 years, Mr. Pawlowicz worked in the telephone industry, retiring from CenturyTel in 1996.
Also surviving are children James Pawlowicz, Kathryn Chamberlain, Karen (Ned) Shafer and Matthew (Stephania) Pawlowicz; sister Adela G. Sokolowski, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at Beechwood Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 for Leland and Grosse Pointe N.Y., on March 17, 1944, he married the former Marion Ruth Youngjohn, who survives.
Mr. Unwin was a B-24 pilot with the Air Force during World War II, a prisoner of war in Germany, and the recipient of a Purple Heart.
He was employed as an advertising art director in Detroit and Ohio, and graduated from Western College for Women in 1948. In 1950 she married John C. Manix who preceded her in death in 1993.
The couple lived in Toledo, Calif., Stephen Hendryx Loomis of Oldsmar, Fla. and Timothy Glenn Loomis of Merritt Island, Fla; daughters Barbara Loomis Altis of Midlothian, Va., Betsy Loomis Early of Fredericksburg, and Cynthia Loomis Whyte of Belmond, Michigan State Horticultural Society, and was instrumental in establishing the Northwest Colo.; sons Don (Kathy) Spinniken and Alan (Nancy) Spinniken, both of East Leland; two sisters, Mary Ellen Krupka of Northport and Ruth Evens of West Bloomfield; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David.

John Frank Grant

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for John Frank Grant, who died Aug. 21 at his Lake Leelanau home. He was 88.
Mr. Grant was born in Bingham Township on July 28, 1914, the son of Frank and Mary (Kurth) Grant. On April 20, 1937, at St. Mary’s Church, he married the former Jeannette Marie Schaub, who survives.
Mr. Grant was a retired truck farmer and cherry grower. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing euchre.
Also surviving are his children, David (Phyllis) Grant, Bill (Diane) Grant, Ann (Bill) Hohl, James (Dorothy) Grant, Matt (Sherri) Grant, Jane (Dick) Strang, Monica (Larry) Cornell, Mary Ann (Jerome) Kolarik and Joe (Laura) Grant; 27 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his sisters, Ann Zeits, Ruth Cook and Clara Plamondon; and brothers Jacob and Ted Grant.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s School or Mass intentions.
