Margaret E. Foyle

Burial has taken place in the Northport cemetery for former Suttons Bay resident Margaret E. Foyle of Royal Oak who died at home March 1. She was 78.
She was born May 1, 1925, in Suttons Bay, the daughter of H.C. Thomas, D.D.S., and Ida Scott Thomas. On Aug. 31, 1947, in Northport, she married Charles R. Foyle of Royal Oak, who survives.
Mrs. Foyle graduated from Suttons Bay High School and was a 1947 graduate of Michigan State College, with post-graduate studies in gerontology at Madonna College. She was a member of Self-Help for the Hard of Hearing of Birmingham and the Birmingham Area Senior Citizens.
Also surviving are her children, Kathryn M. (Thomas) Foyle-Sorenson of Milan, Larry M. (Judy) Foyle of St. Petersburg, Fla., and David T. (Kathleen) Foyle of Aurora, Colo.; sister, Agnes White of Chelsea; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Glenwood Thomas.

Arnold C. McLean

Arnold C. McLean of Elmwood Township died May 6 at Orchard Creek Health Care. He was 85.
He was born Aug. 28, 1917, in Whittemore, the son of Charles L. and Jessie (Ruddick) McLean. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
Mr. McLean graduated from the University of Michigan in 1939 and did graduate studies in Physics and Atomic Acoustic Research at Northwestern University in Illinois. From 1941 to 1960 he was an operations analysis officer, serving in the South Pacific and European theaters during World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1973 as a deputy chief of staff in the Fourteenth Aerospace Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He is survived by his sister Janet E. (Julius) Muslof of Northport and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Bock.
At his request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Graveside burial services will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake Leelanau for Jack David Sharnowski of Lake Leelanau who died Feb. 14 at the age of 60.
Stefaniak memorial set

A burial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16, at St. Rita Cemetery in Maple City for Pauline Angeline Stefaniak of Maple City who died Feb. 12 at the age of 87.
Elaine Susan Caslmon

A funeral Mass was celebrated May 28 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Northport for local resident Elaine Susan Caslmon who died May 23 at Munson Medical Center. She was 56.
She was born in Flint on Dec. 7, 1946, to the late Anthony Dobos and Helen (Hresko) Dobos who survives. In July 1974, in Flint, she married James Lee Caslmon, who survives.
She was a 1956 graduate of St. Mike's School in Flint, was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish in Burton, and served as a nurse for 30 years.
Also surviving are her children, Richard ÒTonyÓ Craker of Flint, Wendy Caslmon of Flint, and Amy Durham of Jackson, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be in the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherryland Humane Society.
Eugene W. Reaves III

Funeral services were held Monday at Grace Episcopal Church for Maple City resident Lt. Col. (retired) Eugene W. Reaves III, who died Dec. 23 at Munson Medical Center. He was 77.
Mr. Reaves was born in Detroit on July 1, 1922, the son of Eugene W. and Trease (Holmes) Reaves II. In Toledo, Ohio, on Oct. 19, 1949, he married Norma Jean Schmunk, who preceded him in death in February, 1994.
Mr. Reaves was a retired B-52 pilot in the Air Force. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodges in Empire and Tampa, Fla., and a member of Lake Leelanau VFW.
Surviving are a son, Lt. Col. Eugene W. "Chip" (Lori) Reaves IV of Dothan, Ala.; a daughter, Nancy Jo (Harold) Feigel of Cedar; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to Glen Lake Schools girls' athletics.
Frank Stafford Weaver

Graveside memorial services will be held May 24 at 11 a.m. at the Omena Cemetery for Frank Stafford Weaver who died Feb. 27 at his son's home in Northport. He was 77.
Mr. Weaver was a World War II Marine veteran, a graduate of Indiana University and a member of the SAE fraternity. He spent his working life in the automotive parts business. During the 1950's and 1960's he spent summers vacationing in Leland with his family.
He is survived by his son, Bob Weaver; his daughter, Sally Carlson; the mother of his children, Alice Weaver; and four grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be sent to Munson Hospice Care, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, 49684.
Max A. Carter

EMPIRE -- Max A. Carter, born May 4, 1913, passed away at home on April 28, 2003, of multiple health problems.
On April 30, 1985, in Las Vegas, Max married Virginia Dawson of Central Lake.
He served his country with the Merchant Marine during World War II. Max retired from Empire National Bank in 1978. He also enjoyed working at The Dunes near Empire, from the time the golf course opened in 1985 until 1998. For 25 years, Max wintered in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he enjoyed driving dealer trades for Pitre Buick. Max had a love for Southwest art and jewelry and getting away from Michigan winters.
Max is missed by his special cat, Blackie, a much loved pet that was a big part of his daily routine since 1995.
Max loved all sports, was an avid golfer, and loved the country life and outdoor activities. Also, for many years, he sang with the barbershoppers.
A special thank you to Dr. Stafford and his staff, Dr. Fraser, and to Hospice and Munson Home Healthcare.
Memorials may be directed to either Munson Hospice or to Empire Rescue.
Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. No services requested.
Ellenore J. Kent

A memorial service was held last month at the Leland United Methodist Church for Cedar area resident Ellenore J. Kent who died March 22. She was 80.
Mrs. Kent was born Sept. 22, 1922 to Mary Burdella and Neil Thad in Highland Park, Mich. In 1943, she married Richard Kent, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1993.
She worked for years as a secretary and spent many hours volunteering through RSVP.
The Kents moved to the Traverse City area in 1987.
Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Burke. She is survived by two daughters, JoEllen (John) Evans of Cedar and Judie (James) Thompson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the Leland United Methodist Church in Leland.
Frederick Schneider

A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Lake Leelanau resident Frederick Conrad Schneider, who died Dec. 24 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He was 92.
Mr. Schneider was born in Marion on May 30, 1907, the son of Charles and Katherine (Hollinger) Schneider. In Lake Leelanau on June 28, 1928, he married Elizabeth Mary Dufek, who survives.
Mr. Schneider was a farmer who owned a bait shop and gas station. He worked in a Willow Run defense plant during World War II. He loved to fish and hunt, having shot his last deer just three years ago, and at one time worked for the Department of Natural Resources. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, he and his wife will be remembered for Schneider's Garden In Lake Leelanau, which they ran for 17 years.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael G. (Lena) Schneider of Frankfort and Milford C. (Grace R.) Schneider of Lake Leelanau; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Willard, and a grandson.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's School.

Dorothy (Bareham) McIntosh, sister of Virgil Bareham of Suttons Bay and Jean (Bareham Witkop) Youker of Traverse City, passed away March 15, 2003, in Chillawack, British Columbia, Canada.
