Ruth Irene Daniel

A family graveside service was held at Empire Maple Grove Cemetery for Ruth Irene Daniel, who died Nov. 20 at her Empire home. She was 92.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Detroit on June 6, 1907. On Nov. 27, 1935, in Detroit, she married Samuel Arthur Daniel, who died in 1964.
Mrs. Daniel was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Jeanette) Daniel of Empire; two grandchildren; and four grandchildren.
Galvarette J. Thomas

Funeral services were held yesterday in Kalamazoo for Northport resident Galvarette J. Thomas, who died Nov. 18 at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. She was 82.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1917, the daughter of Jacob Martin and Thena (Olseson) Jacobson. On Nov. 25, 1939 in Northport she married Eugene Winston Thomas, who died in 1988.
Mrs. Thomas, a housewife, lived in Kalamazoo from the time of her marriage until 1998, when she returned to Northport. She loved sewing and sightseeing.
Surviving are a nephew, Gerard Jacobson, and two nieces, Janice Stuart and Linda Blair. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Adolph, Clifford, Stiener and Theodore; and a sister, Mertle.
Memorials may be made to the Leelanau Memorial Health Center.
Father David B. Ball

A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at St. Gertrude Catholic Church for The Rev. Father David B. Ball of Northport Point and La Jolla, Calif., who died Nov. 26 at Munson Medical Center. He was 66.
Mr. Ball was born on Oct. 18, 1933, in Evanston, Ill, the son of Kathleen (Fleming) and Edward Hyde Ball.
Father Ball attended Saints Faith, Hope and Charity School and New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., and later, attended Mundelein Seminary. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1960 and became the chaplain of Angel Guardian Orphanage in Chicago.
He was commissioned a Navy chaplain in 1966, and served in the Navy and Marine Corps for 22 years at Norfolk, Va.; Newport, R.I.; the Panama Canal Zone; Okinawa, Japan; and San Diego, Calif., before retiring in 1990. Father Ball spent as much time as possible at his cottage at Northport Point.
Surviving are a brother, John F. Ball of Greenwich, Conn., and a sister, Kathleen Ball Crain of Winnetka, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John Christophersen

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church for John E. Christophersen, who died Nov. 26 at his Northport home. He was 86.
Mr. Chistophersen was born on June 30, 1913, the son of James and Nina (Johnson) Christophersen. On Aug. 11, 1945, in Northport, he married Florence C. Raftshol, who preceded him in death on July 28, 1983.
Mrs. Christophersen was a teacher for 42 years, having taught at Bunker School and Muskegon public schools. A member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Muskegon for 50 years, he taught Sunday School and was an active member of the choir. He was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 20 years, and a volunteer at Leelanau Memorial Care Center. He enjoyed teaching, singing, gardening and swimming.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann (Keith) Gorter of Muskegon and Gail Christophersen of Westland; five sons, John A. (Connie) of Ft. Wayne, Walter D. (Margaret) of Muskegon, Philip of Northport, Paul of Detroit and Joseph (Mary) of Muskegon; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by one brother; and two sisters.
Memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church.
Dale V. Cropsey

A funeral service was held Monday in the Volinia Baptist Church in Cassopolis, Mich., for Beverly Hills, Calif. and former Suttons Bay resident Dale V. Cropsey. He was 79.
Mr. Cropsey was born in Cass County on Jan. 26, 1920, the son of Marie (Coble) and Elvare Cropsey. On June 25, 1941, in Lansing, he married Helen D. Indergaard of Suttons Bay, who died in 1997.
He received an electrical engineering degree from Michigan State University and an MBA from Northwestern University, and joined the Army in 1944. After the war, the Cropseys lived in Suttons Bay before his professional career took them to Bangor, Mich.; Princeton, Ind.; Elgin, Ill.; and in 1958 to Beverly Hills, where he resided until his death.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey of New Canaan, Conn.; two brothers, Harmon G. Cropsey of DeWitt, Mich. and Dr. L. Mac Cropsey of Littleton, Colo.; and a grandson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Bethel LeMarbe of Marcellus.
Interment was in Crane Cemetery in Volinia Township. Memorials may be made to the Helen Indergaard Cropsey and Dale V. Cropsey Memorial Scholarship Fund within the Michigan Gateway Foundation, 111 Days Ave., P.O. Box 351, Buchanan 49107.
Audrey C. Scott

Funeral services were held yesterday at Trinity Church for former Northport resident Audrey Carolyn Herban Scott, who died Aug. 17 at Munson Medical Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Scott was born in Frankfort on Feb. 16, 1912, the daughter of Lenore (Brabant) and Mathew Herban. In Frankfort in May, 1939, she married Andrew Scott, who preceded her in death in November, 1997.
Mrs. Scott was a 1929 graduate of Frankfort, attended Wayne State University and Eastern (University) County Normal School, and taught in Thompsonville and Honor. She became a homemaker and active volunteer upon marrying, living from 1947-73 in Saginaw. She returned upon her husband's retirement to the family homestead in Northport, where she was a member of Trinity Church and the Northport Women's Club. A talented seamstress, she enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Surviving are her children, Darrell (Doreen) Scott of Lake Ann, Sharon (Ed Richie), and Scott Dupree of Denver; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Burial was in the Leelanau Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Northport Women's Club, Leelanau Memorial Hospital Auxilary, Almira Township Fire and Rescue or the Benzie County Commission on Aging.
Mabel K. Olson

Funeral services were held Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ for Northport resident Mabel K. Olson, who died Nov. 16 at Munson Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Olson was born on April 20, 1910, the daughter of Oscar H. and Elizabeth (Gagnon) Kitchen. In Northport on Sept. 26, 1934, she married Alfred G. Olson, who preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1970.
Mrs. Olson taught at the Solem School for a few years after graduation, and worked for Anderson's General Store in Northport. She enjoyed bingo and attended Trinity Church in Northport.
She is survived by three nieces and seven nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Stowe, Mertle Stowe, Frances Mikowski and Marion Teron; and two nieces.
Burial was in Leelanau Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ.
Phyllis Cattell Bryant

Leland summer resident Phyllis Cattell Bryant died Nov. 13 in her St. Louis, Mo. home. She was 70.
Mrs. Bryant first visited Leland at the age of three months with her parents.
Surviving are her husband, William Bryant; a son, Charles; a daughter, Julia Braster; and five grandchildren.

Ruthmary Cobb

A funeral Mass was held Tuesday in Nashville for Ruthmary Cobb, who died May 11. She was 78.
Local visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
Mrs. Cobb was born on Sept. 3, 1923, in Pine Bluff, Ark. On May 29, 1942, she married John T. Cobb, who survives.
Mrs. Cobb resided during her high school years in Traverse City, attended Michigan State University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gama, and spent her summers at her home on North Lake Leelanau.
She was instrumental in founding Theater Nashville, and acted in many productions. Her loves included sunsets over the Manitou islands, and playing bingo and bridge.
Also surviving are sons John T. Cobb II of Heritage, Tenn. and Michael M. (Shelley) of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; daughters Susan (Tom) Dowler of Au Gres, Rebecca (Dennis) McDade of Nashville and Jennifer (Tom) Chassee of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Daniel (Lillian) Mahaney of Leland; and 11 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Francis C. Kedrovicz

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City for Elmwood Township resident Francis C. Kedrovicz, who died Nov. 17 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was 70.
Mr. Kedrovicz was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in East Bay Township, the son of John and Laura (Courtade) Kedrovicz. On June 8, 1952, in Traverse City, he married Rosemary Kucera, who survives.
Mr. Kedrovicz served in the Navy from 1946 to 1950. He was employed at Cone Drive Gear for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, helping neighbors and giving away candy to waitresses at local restaurants.
Also surviving are a daughter, Barbara J. (John) Long of Traverse City; a brother, Robert (Coleen) Kedrovicz of Traverse City; a granddaughter; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Monterusso.
Burial was in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Grand Traverse Pavilions or Immaculate Conception Church.
