Celia "Sippy" Blondeau
MARQUETTE -- Celia "Sippy" Blondeau, 78, of 681 Lost Creek Dr., died Saturday, March 24,
2001 at Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for one week.
She was born April 22, 1922 in Marquette to Charles and Clara (Height) Basal and had lived here all her life. Celia was a homemaker who loved gardening and crafts. She was an avid bingo player and also enjoyed the casino occassionally.
Celia is survived by her husband of 33 years, Eugene Blondeau, her children; Darlene Zerler of Ft. Wayne, IN, Charlene "Pinky" (Eugene) Greenleaf of Marquette, Carla(Kenneth) Quinn of Green Bay, WI; Mike Blondeau and Patricia(Lloyd) Houle of Marquette and Merrilee (Bruce) Burnette of Ishpeming, grandchildren Lisa (Steve) Vaughn, Daniel (Jenni) Quinn, Sherry Lynn Jordan, Terri Lee, Randy & Richard Zerler, Jodi (Mike) Parker, Loralee & Ian Blondeau, Michelle (John) Musgrove, Stefanie and Lloyd(Trista) Houle, Angela (Jesse) LaForest, and Leslie and Cory Burnette, 23 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a special niece Virginia (Paul) Wilson and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers William and Lawrence Basal, a sister Rhoda Rosin and her granddaughter Carolyn Daugherty.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 27, 2001 in the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Bo Baumeister of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Clark, Nicholas Floria, Lloyd Houle Jr., Stefanie Houle, Cory Burnette, Ian Blondeau and Angela LaForest. Eugne H, Gaboury Sr.
ISHPEMING - Eugene H. Gaboury Sr., age 88 formerly of 522 D St., Junction Location, passed away Saturday March 24, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Eugene was born August 2, 1912 in Ishpeming to the late Ernest & Rose (Prudhoumme) Gaboury and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps in the early 1930"s. He worked for the Inland Steel Co. at the Morris and Greenwood Mines, and then as a surface foreman for the Jones & Laughlin Co. at the Tracy Mine, retiring in 1971. Eugene went back to work in 1973 as a yard manager for Holli Forest Products working until 1983.
Eugene was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Vincent Ouellette Council; and was active with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a former member of the Junction Club. Eugene was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed the time he spent at his camp.
Survivors include 4 sons - Eugene L. (Carol) Gaboury, Robert (Kathy) Gaboury, David (Cindy) Gaboury and Steven (Connie) Gaboury all of Ishpeming, 2 daughters Priscilla (David) Juchemich and Jo Arm (Robert) Nelson both of Negaunee, a sister Cecelia St. Andre of Ishpeming, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren along with several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Tillie in 1985 and, 3 brothers, Howard, Ernest & Lawrence Gaboury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00PM on Monday March 26, 2001 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Peter Oberto to officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the St. Joseph Catholic Church from 5 until 7 PM on Monday. Pallbearers will be Eugene's granchildren. Memorials may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Joseph's Conference. The Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kate B. (Jeffery) Nebel
MARQUETTE -- Kate B (Jeffery ) Nebel, age 98, of Marquette died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Norlite Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since March 1998.
Mrs. Nebel was born October 25, 1902 in Calumet, Michigan to the late William W. and Katie J. Jeffery. Kate graduated from Calumet High School in 1919 and earned a teaching certificate from Northern State Normal School (NMU). She taught elementary school and her first teaching job was in a oneroom school house at Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
She married Freeman E. (Buck) Nebel on June 18, 1927 in Calumet and lived in Marquette. She retired from the Chocolay Township Schools in 1962. She and Freeman wintered in Florida after their retirement.
Kate was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marquette and was active in their women's groups. She was a charter member of the World Service Guild, organized and founded in 1937 and disbanded in 1997. She was a Life Member and Past Worthy Matron of Presque Isle Chapter 403 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel of Marquette County.
Her favorite hobby was crocheting and knitting. Her grandchildren enjoyed the warmth of the mittens and slippers she knitted for them.
Survivors include her son James (Susan) Nebel of Marquette, eight grandsons, Kim Nebel of Ishpeming, Roger Nebel of Falls Church, VA, Don (Marie) Nebel of
Portage, IN and Jon (Cindy), Brian, Mark (Patti), and David Nebel, all of Marquette, Joe (Stacey) Parent of Traverse City, MI., and two granddaughters, Wendy (Mike) Parent -Jenkins of Lindenhurst, IL. and Amy Jo Parent of Milwaukee, WI., a sister Helen (Fabian) Archambeau of Lansing, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman in 1983, a brother William, two sisters, Laurene Jeffery and Eunice (Glenn) MacEachran, and a grandson, Jack Nebel.
Funeral services will be held at
11:00 AM Tuesday, March 27 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ross Nicholson officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of services.

Albert G. Tuuri
HARVEY -- Albert G. Tuuri, 83, of 429 Cherry Creek Road, Harvey, entered eternal life Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2001, at Marquette General Hospital where he had been admitted the previous evening.
He was born March 12, 1918 in Marquette, a son of the late Gust and Anna (Kangas) Tuuri, was a 1936 graduate of the Graveraet High School, and remained a lifelong area resident. Albert entered the US Army in 1941, serving with the Company C Motor Pool Detachment and the Field Artillery School. His main duty station during World War II was in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and during the course of his military service he received the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with One Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1945 and returned to Marquette where he began employment with the railroad. On April 29, 1947 he married Mary Bureau in Marquette.
For over 33 years, Albert was employed as a pump repairman with the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railroad and later the Soo Line Railroad, retiring in 1980. His railroad career spanned from the steam locomotive era to the diesel age.
On December 30, 1979 his wife, Mary, preceded him in death. Albert later married Thelma (Ranta) Billings on July 9, 1981 in Marquette and the couple enjoyed traveling, including trips to Finland, California, andwintering in Florida for a time. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2000.
Albert was a Jack-of-all-trades and was always willing to help when called upon by relatives and friends. He was especially skilled in furnace work, carpentry, and anything electronic, and kept himself busy to the end with one project after another. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched and will be fondly remembered for his giving nature.
A loving father, proud grandparent, and brother, he is survived by: his daughter, Ann Marie (Richard) Laudeman of Midland; three step-sons, Charles (Lorna) Billings of Harvey, Thomas Billings of Grove Port, OH, and Michael Billings of Marquette; a step-daughter- in- law, Rosemary Billings of Marquette; his grandchildren, Denise Laudeman, Crystal Laudeman, Jason Billings, Josh Billings, Jeffery Billings, Kristine Billings, and John (Pam) Billings; great-grandchildren, RayShaun, Ira, Trinity, John Jr, Nolan, and Cherish; a sister, Esther Knight of Agoera, CA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wives, Mary and Thelma, Albert was preceded in death by a step-son, James Billings; three sisters, Anna Craig, Martha Fitzgerald, and Viano Maki; and a brother, John At Albert's request, no services will be scheduled and private burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens. The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.
B.G. Leonard Cecil Ward
McLEAN, VIRGINIA -- Brigadier General Leonard C. Ward of McLean, Virginia, born November 17, 1917 died of Lymphoma Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the age of 83. He attended Michigan Technological University graduating in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and earned his Masters degree in Information Systems Technology from George Washington University.
General Ward joined the Michigan National Guard in 1939 shortly after he was commissioned from the ROTC . He entered active duty with the 32nd Infantry Division in 1940. Overseas during World War II, he served as platoon leader company commander and group staff officer in engineer units supporting divisions of V Corps, First Army in Europe.
General Ward commanded the 107th Engineer Battalion from 1952 until 1959. He was appointed as the Assistant Division Commander of the 46th Infantry Division Michigan National Guard on 13 February 1967, and received Federal recognition as a Brigadier General on 25 May 1967. He commanded the 46th Infantry Division during the last month of its existence in the force structure.
General Ward was appointed the Acting Assistant Chief, National Guard Bureau, for Army on 15 January 1968. Upon Senate confirmation of his grade, he began a four-year term as Assistant Chief, National Guard Bureau, for Army on 1 May 1968. On 1 February 1970, his office was redesignated Director, Army National Guard and subsequently authorized a Major General grade. On 20 April 1970, General Ward was appointed Deputy Director, Army National Guard.
Among General Ward's decorations and awards are the Legion on Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oakleaf Cluster, American Defense Ribbon, European- African- Middle Eastern Ribbon with Arrowhead and five Battle Stars, Victory Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Citation, Headquarters Department of Army; Citation, Headquarters USCONARC; Michigan Distinguished Service Medal, and Michigan Service Medal with three Oakleaf Clusters.
General Ward's affiliations include Association of the United States Army, National Guard Association of the United States, National Guard Association of Michigan, Society of American Military Engineers, and Army Engineer Association.
After retirement in 1972, General Ward worked ten years for Computer Sciences Corporation as Management Consultant to the Joint Staff, the Army and Navy Departments, Xerox Corporation and other Clients.
General Ward is survived by his wife, Joyce; son Leonard C. Ward III and wife Shari Jeshow; son, Robert Grant Ward; son, Douglas Stuart Ward, with 2 children, Cierra, James, and Austin; and daughter Mary Bea Ward Constantino and husband Daniel Constantino; sister, Madelyn Thompson and husband Kenneth Thompson; and sister-in-law Gertrude Ward.
A viewing will be held at Murphy's Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia on Sunday, March 25, 2001 from 6-9 pm. The funeral for General Ward will be held on Monday, April 9, 2001, at 1pm at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in McLean, Virginia, and the intermenty will follow with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Jack Jarvinen
LANTANA, FLORIDA -- Jack Jarvinen, born September 5, 1942 in Marquette, died in Lantana, Florida on March 17, 2001.
He is survived by his father Toivo Jarvinen of Lantana, FL, his brothers and their spouses; Bill and Libby Jarvinen of Alabama and Peter and Connie Jarvinen of Lantana, FL, two nieces, two nephews and several cousins. His mother Helen (Laukko) Jarvinen preceded him in death in 1998. Cremation took place in Florida.
Martha A. Byttyla
REPUBLIC -- Martha A. Byttyla, age 91 of Rt. 1 Box 258 Riverview Heights Apts., Republic, MI passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001 at her home of an apparent heart attack.
Martha was born December 8, 1909 in Felch, MI to the late Alexander and Ida (Siltanen) Olander. She moved to Republic in her youth and has resided there since. She had formerly worked as a cook at the Dairy Barn Café in Republic. Martha was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed her meals and fellowship at the Summer Place Restaurant in Republic.
Survivors include four grandchildren- David Toivonen of Elizabeth, CO, Brenda (Paul) Maddock of Ishpeming, Wendy (Brian) Perry of Crystal Falls & Becky Toivonen of Ishpeming; two great grandchildren- Matthew & Alyssa Maddock; a sister Elma Rankinen of Republic; two brothers- Eino (Esther) Olander of Marquette and Arvid (Imbie) Olander of Republic; along with several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugo Toivonen; a daughter Judith Ann Toivonen in 1982, a grandson Mark Toivonen in 1985, brothers George & Arne Olander and sisters Lydia Harju, Helen Olander & Helmi Rankinen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic with the Rev. Lance Roberts to officiate. Burial will be in the Republic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Church from 9:30 AM until the time of services on Wednesday.

Darrell D. Ostwald
NEGAUNEE -- Darrell D. Ostwald, 76, 118 Ridge St. Negaunee, died at 6:45 PM on Monday, March 26, 2001 at Bell Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for 3 days and following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Ostwald was born Oct. 16, 1924 in Okabena, MN to Otto & Hazel (VanDam) Ostwald. He attended Okabena High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a signalman on Merchant Marine ships in the Atlantic & Pacific where he spent up to 21 days without seeing land. He entered as an apprentice seaman and worked his way to a second class petty officer. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 36 years as a depot agent, retiring in Nov. of 1985.
Darrell was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Ishpeming and served as a Deacon. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the V.A. Romo Post V.F.W. #3165, Negaunee, a member of the Negaunee Elks where he enjoyed many afternoons visiting with friends. He enjoyed playing cribbage, attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Saline), whom he married on Feb. 25, 1946, a son Brian Ostwald of Negaunee, 2 daughters; Cynthia Stafford of Sarasota, FL, Cathleen (Stephen) Nelson of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren; Angela & Dustin Stafford of New York, Jennifer Dickerson & Daniel Nelson of Ishpeming, a brother Winfield (Janice) Ostwald of Williston, N.D., 3 sisters; Odetta (Robert) Gallagher of Fairmont, MN, Elizabeth Ostwald of Minneapolis, MN, Alberta Ostwald of Mountain Lake, MN, sisters-in-law; Patricia Ostwald of Fridley, MN, Grace Ostwald of Jackson, MN, Phyllis (Roy) Lummukka of Ishpeming, numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Bradley in 1978, a grandson Christopher Dickerson, and 2 brothers; Meryl & Jerome Ostwald.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the United Presbyterian Church, Ishpeming with Pastor Steven Paradise officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Don Johnson, Steve Nelson, Mark Ostwald, Paul Collins, Doug Mood, & Dustin Stafford.

Dr. Stephen C. Wright
ELK GROVE, CALIFORNIA -- Dr. Stephen C. Wright, 49, a resident of Elk Grove, California, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2001 after a two month battle with cancer. He was native of Marquette, Michigan. Dr. Wright held degrees from both Michigan State University and Northern Michigan University. Dr. Wright received his medical degree from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan, in 1990. He joined the staff at MedClinic of Sacramento, California, in 1993 and most recently worked at the Timberlake office.
Dr. Wright is survived by his wife Lorna and two sons Alex and Patrick; his parents Dr. Harold and Bette Wright of Concord, CA; and brother Geoffrey Wright and family of St. Charles, IL.

Raymond M. Schaefer
LAKEFIELD -- Raymond M. Schaefer, 76, died at Marquette General Hospital on March 26, 2001 following a short illness.
A lifelong area resident, descended from Lakefield Township pioneers, he was born on the homestead farm on December 14, 1924 to Raymond W. & Amy (Roat) Schaefer.
He attended local schools and graduated from the Michigan State College short course on Agriculture. An avid outdoorsman and conservationist, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking.
He had a lifelong association with conservation organizations, being a member of the Luce-West Mackinac Soil Conservation District, Luce County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Council, serving at the State, Upper Peninsula, and local levels. In 1997, he was honored by Governor Engler for a lifetime of service. Raymond was also a charter member of the Manistique Lakes Lions Club.
A retired farmer, he was well known for his sweet corn and strawberries. He also owned the Greenleaf Farm Campground for the past 35 years. Besides his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his son, Allan Dudley Schaefer, who died in 1953.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Jackie Dudley who he married in Newberry on June 5, 1948, and 1 son Scott (Kelly) of Lakefield, 5 daughters; Sharon (Terrill) Green of Marquette; Susan Schaefer, Amy (Jim) Minard, Virginia (Gary) Hedberg; Laura (Mark) Woolard, all of Ishpeming; 13 grandchildren, including his latest Rebecca Woolard who was born just 10 days ago; 1 sister Myrtle (George) Robinson, of Rochester, NY; and 2 brothers: Robert (Beverly) and Clarence (LeeAnne) of Seminole, FL.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Curtis Baptist Church on Thursday, March 29, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Spring intermenty will be held at West Lakefield Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 28 from 4-7 and also at the church on Thursday, 1 hour before services.

Wallace "Wally" Clinker
MUNISING -- Wallace "Wally" Clinker, age 78, of 204 Spruce Street, Munising, died following a one year illness on Monday, March 26, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at the Superior Health Haven in Munising. Wally was born on September 12, 1922 in Akron, Indiana to the late Ivan and Jessie Clinker. He was a graduate of Akron High School. Wally married Betty M. Miller in 1942. They were married over fifty-two years before she preceded him in death in 1995. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Wally retired from Uniroyal Tire in Mishawaka, IN in 1979. He and Betty then moved to the U.P. where they owned and operated the Uno Lodge from 1979 until 1988. He was a member of the Tri-County Fire Department, the Ahmed Shrine, and the Grand Island Lodge #422, F & AM. He married Pat Bockorny at the Richard Hausahagen home on Lost Lake in 1995. Wally was an avid bowler, he enjoyed the outdoors, and he was a HUGE Chicago Cubs fan. He loved Schnauzers and treated his pets, Bo, J.R., and Tisha like they were his children.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Clinker of Munising, 7 stepchildren; Dennis, Tina, Brad, Debra, Torri, John & Tracy, 21 step-grandchildren, 5 step- great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews from Betty's side of the family. His brother, Herbert Clinker, also preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, 808 E. Rochester Street, Akron, IN on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00. Pastor Steve Haiflich will conduct the funeral on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Foster & Good Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Athens Cemetery in Athens, Indiana.
Adele E. Reynolds
MARQUETTE -- Adele E. Reynolds, 79, of 303 Lost Creek, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, March 28, 2001, at Marquette General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She had been hospitalized since Sunday. She was born July 2,1921 in Marquette, a daughter of the late Henry and Emily (Fortin) Duquette, and was a lifelong Marquette resident. She married Andrew Smith and the couple began to establish their home and raise a family, which eventually included three children. Adele worked for a few years at the former Piqua and then, following her marriage to Andrew Smith, remained at home to raise her family. She later worked as a housekeeper for the Dr. Fred Sabin Family for many years and in 1967 began employment as a housekeeper at Northern Michigan University until her retirement in the early 1970's. In 1970 she married Harold Reynolds and the couple enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and going to their camp in Big Bay. Harold preceded her in death in 1991. Adele enjoyed her grandchildren,
playing BINGO, going to the casino, playing cards, and spending time with her friends. A loving mother and proud grandparent, she is survived by a daughter, Susan (Garland) Cousineau of Negaunee; two sons, Bruce Smith and Paul (Marilyn) Smith both of Harvey; step-daughters, Lynn, Janelle, and Carol; a step-son, Alan; her grandchildren, Holly (Al) Conrad, Tracey Smith, Andrew (Penny) Smith, Jason Smith, and Vicki Cousineau; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Adele was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Andrew Smith; husband, Harold Reynolds; a sister, Jeanette; and brothers, Henry and Alex Duquette. Alisa Lynn Brandon
MARQUETTE -- Alisa Lynn Brandon, 47, of 555 County Road 553, Marquette, died Wednesday morning, March 28, 2001 at Marquette General Hospital following a two month illness.
She was born January 28, 1954 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, a daughter of Richard and Lynn (Gamblin) Kendrick. Alisa graduated from Mattoon High School in Mattoon, Illinois, in 1972. She attended Lake Land Community College and later earned a degree in Forestry from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1976. On January 15, 1977 she married Eric Brandon in Herrin, Illinois. The couple has resided in the Marquette area since 1992, previously residing in the Big Bay area, and Ironwood for thirteen years. Alisa was previously employed as a surveyor for the U.S. Forest Service and as a seamstress for Jacquart's Manufacturing Company while residing in Ironwood. Later she was employed at the Thunder Bay Inn in Big Bay and was a full-time employee of Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts in Marquette.
Alisa was very active in Powell Township 4-H and was a Master Gardener with the Michigan Master Gardener Program. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, interior decorating, crafts, kayaking, skiing, canoeing, and racquetball. Her main interest in life was taking care of her family and giving support to many people who were transplants to the Upper Peninsula, especially during the holidays.
Alisa is survived by her husband, Eric and daughter, Emmy Brandon of Marquette; mother, Lynn Kendrick of Mattoon, Illinois; brothers, David Kendrick of Madisonville, Kentucky and Dan Kendrick of Brisbane, Australia; sisters, Teresa Kendrick of Ajijic, Mexico and Nancy Bottorff and husband, Richard, and two nephews, Bobby and Ian of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Lee Roy and Jeanette Brandon of Herrin, Illinois; sister-in-law, Leanne Timmermann and husband, John, nephews, Joshua and Jordan Timmermann, niece, Jillian Timmermann, also of Herrin, Illinois; sister-in-law, Yvonne Davis and her husband, John of Winthrope Harbor, Illinois, nephews, Jeffrey and Joseph Davis and niece, Jennifer Davis also of Winthrope Harbor. Alisa was preceded in death by her father, Richard Kendrick; grandparents H.C. and Willye Lou Gamblin of Madisonville, Kentucky; and William and Naomi Kendrick of Chester, Illinois; and grandparents-in-law, John and Eda Cavalli of Herrin, Illinois.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Saturday, March 31, beginning at 11 am. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm Saturday afternoon in the funeral home with Rev. Lauri Maki officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Thunder Bay Inn in Big Bay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the activities of Powell Township 4-H in Big Bay. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral
Chester E. Green
CHATHAM -- Chester E. Green, age 79, of N1565 State Highway M-67, Chatham, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2001at 6:23 p.m. surrounded by his wife and family at his home. He was born on January 11, 1922 in Jackson County Tennessee to the late Willie B. and Myrtle Page (Spiva) Green. He married Willodean Ara Hesson on July 10, 1942. Chester and Willodean moved to Detroit and he retired from Huron Fordge and Machine Company on January 29, 1982. In the fall of 1992, they moved to Chatham and resided with their daughter, Patricia and her family. He was a participant in the Alger County Alzheimer's support group. Chester enjoyed fleet marketing and repairing clocks as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty-eight years7 Willodean Green of Chatham; daughter - Patricia & Alan Klyk of Chatham; son - William & Laurie Green of Lafayette, TN; grandchildren - Shelly Klyk, Stacey (Greg) Richmond, Jenny Klyk, Brandon Klyk, Lisa Green, Nathan Cole, and Sean Hager; 10 great- granchildren Jordan, Avery, Branden, Christian, Mackenzie, Hunter, Cadence, Tyler, Alayna, and Jaelynn; brothers - Elster Green of Paisley, TN, Taylor Green of Old Hickory, TN and Herbert Green of Gallatin, TN; sisters - Ruth Challender of Tacoma, WA and Virginia Fykes of Bethpage, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Chester was also preceded in death by sisters, Edith Carmichael, Melba Green, Willie B. Allen and brother, Horace Green.
