Stella D. McCullough
MARQUETTE -- Stella D. McCullough, 86, of 1536 W. Ridge Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday evening, September 4, 2001, in Conyers, GA, while visiting her daughter. She had been in ill health for the past two years. Stella was born August 10, 1915 in Webeno, WI, a daughter of the late James A. and Salina (VanCaster) Farr, and was raised in Menominee.
In October of 1934 she married Robert H. McCullough in Marquette and had been a Marquette resident since that time. A homemaker, she was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Women's Life Society. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed doing craftwork.
A loving mother, proud grandparent, and sister, she is survived by: her daughter, Sandra (Raymond) Hernandez of Conyers, GA; son, Robert J. (Nancy) McCullough of Ishpeming; five grandchildren, Daniel (Jeanne) McCullough of Middletown, Michigan to the late Albert and Mary Colburn. She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1935. Dorothy worked at the Munising Paper Company from October 1935 to August 1941 as a paper sorter. She graduated as a registered nurse from Loyola University St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing Unit in Chicago in 1944. Dorothy entered into the U.S. Army on June 6, 1945, She served during WWII as a First Lieutenant, R.N. until January 1, 1947. She was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the American Theater Ribbon. She married George Clifford Seaberg on June 7, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1988. In March of 1950, Dorothy went to work at the "Old" Munising Hospital. In 1961, she moved to Munising Memorial and worked as a nurse and then as the Director of Nursing, semi-retiring in 1981. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the St. Jude Circle and she worked as a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion for over forty-six years. She loved to knit, travel, play cards and bake rye bread. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, James (Sharon) Seaberg of Munising, Ann Cromell of Munising and Richard (Joette) Seaberg of Menominee, MI; six grandchildren, James (Gina) Seaberg, Bruce (Lyssa) Cromell, Dean (Rita) Seaberg, Sheila (Patrick) Peters, Daniel Seaberg and Shawn Seaberg; great grandchildren, Emily and Audrey Cromell, Wyatt Seaberg, Dylan Seaberg, Lauren Peters and a baby on the way; sisters, Helen Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, Marian Sauer of Wauwatosa, WI and Jean O'Boyle of Munising; brother, Paul (Carol) Colburn of Munising.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday, September 10, 2001 from 11:00am until 1:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Monday at 1:30pm. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising where the American Legion Honor Guard will conduct graveside services. Following the services, a fellowship gathering will take place upstairs of Sydney's Restaurant in Munising. Dorothy will be escorted by James Seaberg, Jr., Bruce Cromell, Jr., Dean Seaberg, Daniel Seaberg, Shawn Seaberg and Patrick Peters.
Edmund R. Allie
MUNISING -- Edmund R. Allie, age 66, of 113 Birch Street, Munising died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at his home. Ed was born on March 10, 1935 in Munising, Michigan. Ed moved to Racine, WI and worked different jobs until he was hired by the City of Racine. He worked for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1997 when he returned to Munising. Ed was a C-Scout growing up and he enjoyed reading and walking on the Boardwalk and Miner Castle trails and Lake Superior.
He is survived by his sisters- Edwina Knaus of Traunik, Frances Brauns of Comstock Park, MI, Bernadine "Bing" Allie of Munising, Ora (Rod) Diem of Dearwood, MN, and Patricia Allie of Munising; an aunt Nola Haines of Michigan University. She taught kindergarten at the Central School in the Ishpeming Public Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
Survivors include a son Bill Bennett of Ishpeming and L'Anse; Karen Sundberg of Taylor; a sister Ebba Eklund of Ishpeming; a granddaughter Kristine Mitchell of Taylor; two great grandchildren Jennifer and Thomas Minten of Taylor; two special nieces Jean Ruohomaki of Ishpeming and Ann Magnuson of Negaunee; along with several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Tyra Johnson and three brothers- Eric, Sven and Carl Eklund.
Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 5 until 8pm on Monday, September 10, 2001.
A private burial will take place Tuesday at the Eklund Family Lot in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Marquette Co. Humane Society.
Mafalda Michels
MICHIGAMME -- Mafalda Michels, age 86, of Michigamme, died Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming.
Mafalda was born in Baltic, MI on October 1, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Margherita and Emilio Andreini who emigrated from Lucca, Italy. She graduated from Painsdale High School and lived in the Copper Country area, where she married Frederick Michels of Painsdale in 1937. They lived in Ishpeming and Ontonagon and, after retirement, in Michigamme and Tucson. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion and enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlework and crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers Emmett, Bill and Paul and by her sisters Mary, Theresa and Yolanda.
She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Michels (Michael Hinko) of Streamwood, IL, Jeanette (Gerald) Berke of Woodstock, NY and Margaret (Rafe) Kenney of Shepherdsville, KY. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
A private family service is being held. In late November, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion with burial in Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee Twp. Funeral arrangements and announcements are being handled by the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion.
Mary J. LaCombe
ISHPEMING -- Mary J. LaCombe, 85, of Ishpeming, South Carolina after a short illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm Saturday, September 15, 2001 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Lawrence Gauthier officiating. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Saturday, September 15, 2001 from 10:00am until 12:30pm.

Arne A. Mustonen
ISHPEMING - Arne A. Mustonen, age 81, of 870 Westwood Dr. passed away on Sunday September 9, 2001 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp. He had been in ill health for the past several years.
Arne was born April 19, 1920 in Baraga to the late Jacob and Riika (Huttunen) Mustonen. Arne served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He moved to the Ishpeming area in 1948. He retired from the operating engineers union #324 in 1982 as a construction worker after over 45 years with the union. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and a former member of the Ishpeming Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Esther of Ishpeming; a son John (Lois) Mustonen of National Mine; a daughter Diane (Doug) Collar of Ishpeming; a granddaughter - Tracy (Mark) Patenaude of RI; 2 grandsons Christopher (Billie Jo) Mustonen of FL and Derek Collar of Ishpeming; a sister - Toini (Ned) Moberg of Baraga; a brother - Richard (Marjorie) Mustonen of Michigan to the late Kalle and Weera (Ruska) Waananen. Helen graduated from Eben High School in 1939 and then went to secretarial school in Marquette. During WWII, she worked in the War Department in Michigan State University at the Agricultural Experimental Station in Chatham. She worked there for twenty-five years before retiring in 1976. Following retirement, she and Reino enjoyed travelling and she took trips to Finland, Australia, Hawaii, Honduras, and the Southwest. Helen was an active member of the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham. She served as secretary for the church council for many years and she was member of the Women's Guild and ofthe choir. She was also a member of the Small Towner's Home Extension Club. Helen enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing Scrabble, cross country skiing and bicycling when she was younger, taking Finnish language lessons, and spending time with her family at their camp on Lost Lake.
She is survived by her husband of over fifty-flve years, Reino of Chatham; their son, David Akkala of Chatham; grandson - Joseph Markel of Marine City; brother, Martin (Elizabeth) Waananen of Iron Mountain, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by their daughter, Louise Elizabeth Markel in February of 2001, brothers, Wally, Edwin, and William Waananen, and sister, Eva Alto.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Rev. Paul Kelto will conduct the funeral service on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 from the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. Helen will be escorted by Joe Markel, Albert Ikkala, Larry Waananen, Viljo Heikkinen, Steve Norman, and Bruce Kallio. Memorials may be made in memory of Helen to the Sion Lutheran Church.
Eileen Pangborn
Eileen Pangborn, age 83, of Munising, died on Thursday, September 6, 2001 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a one month illness. She was born on September 14, 1917 in L'Anse to the late Frank and Lila (Richey) Reid. Eileen lived in Munising most of her life and on April 15, 1939, she married Louis Keith Pangborn. They were married over fifty-five years before he preceded her in death on February 1, 1995. They owned the Lake Superior Grocery in Christmas from 1951 until 1980. Eileen was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church in Munising.
She is survived by her son - Keith & Sylvia Pangborn of Racine, WI; daughter Linda & Larry Constantineau of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren - Jayne Pangborn and Tressa Ries, and Stacy Meade; 2 great- grandchildren Logan and Teagan Ries; and a sister Betty Demers of Wells7 MI. Eileen was also preceded in death by brothers, Glenn, Francis, and Charles Reid and by sisters Helen Wood and Donna Wolfe.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Rosemarie Fahrion will conduct the funeral service from the United Methodist Church in Munising on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
Lucille A. Robinson
NEWBERRY -- Lucille A. Robinson, 83, of Newberry, died Saturday morning September 8, 2001 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry. Funeral services will be held Thursday September 13, 2001 at 10:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry with Pastor David Hueter, officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home on Wednesday September 12th from 5-8 pm and also at the church on Thursday September 13th from 9:00 am until time of services.

Hazel J. Uitto
NEGAUNEE -- Hazel J. Uitto, age 74, of 957 Cedar Street, Negaunee, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2001, at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming.
Hazel was born on January 11, 1927 in Negaunee, Michigan, and have lived in Negaunee since 1974.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, family get-togethers and vacations with her family. A favorite pasttime was spending time with her special friends, also foundly known as the "Steel Magnolias", Jeannie Manginen, Joanne Connors, Virginia Paulson, Laila Kuivinen and Charlotte Poutanen. She was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters, Vicki (Glenn) Elliott, Negaunee, Peggy (Larry) Laitala, Ishpeming; a sister, Beverly (John) Roberts, Johannesburg, MI; brothers, Robert (Nancy) Mager and Stanley (Betty) Mager, both of Negaunee; her grandchildren, Becky Elliott and Matt Elliott, Negaunee, and Jill Laitala of Ishpeming. Brothers-in-law, Stanley (Betty) Uitto, Ishpeming and Harvey (Ruth) Uitto of Michigan University. She taught kindergarten at the Central School in the Ishpeming Public Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1974.

Joseph E. Kerekes
MARQUETTE -- Joseph E. Kerekes, age 91, formerly of East Toledo, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2001 in Marquette, Michigan. Joseph was a machinist for Dana Corporation for 20 years retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy.
Surviving are his sons; Jospeh, Jr. (Kathy) and Ronald (Kathleen), brothers; Frank (Helen) and Andrew Kerekes, sister, Margaret Hayden, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Friends and family may visit at Kinsey Funeral Home, Birmingham Chapel, 2001 Consaul St. on Thursday, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin Friday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home and proceed to St. Stephen's Church where Mass of Chrisitian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Margaret E. Healey
ISHPEMING -- Margaret E. Healey, age 91 of 36 Sunnyside Estates, Ishpeming, passed away Monday, September 10, 2001 at the Bell Memorial Hospital, hospice care unit.
Margaret was born November 30, 1909 in Republic to the late Alexander & Mary (Demeny-Clavell) Beauchamp. She graduated in 1926 from Republic High School.
Margaret work as a seamstress for the H.W. Gossard Company where she retired from in 1970. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was an avid BINGO & card player.
Margaret is survived by daughters, Shirley Bjorne and Mary Beth (Dennis) Kari both of Ishpeming, sons; John (JeanAnn) Healey of Ishpeming, Patrick J. (Patricia) Healey of Marquette and step son, Joseph (Jeanne) Healey of Ishpeming, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John A. Healey, 1970, 5 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 granddaughter and a great great granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. John Shiverski officiating. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Margaret's grandsons. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to U.P. Home Health & Hospice, or St. John's Catholic Church- Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends following the service in the K/D Hall located in St. Johns Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home.
