Violet L. Paquette
ANAHEIM, CA -- Violet L. Paquette, died at her home in Anaheim, CA, on Thursday, September 20 of cancer. She was 67. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 3 p.m. at Westmister Memorial Park, Westminster, CA 92683. Born in Bayard, NE, married Donald O. Paquette, June 22, 1952, moved to California in 1959. Her interests were gardening, quilting, and crafts. She loved and cared for many animals. An active member of numerous organizations. Acquired an AA degree in Education. She was always helping and teaching others.
She is survived by her husband, Don; two brothers, Richard and Rolland Payne; mother Mildred Krusemeier; daughter Rachelle Hardy; sons Donald, Steve, and Mike; four grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren, and many friends. Donations can be made in her behalf to Fullerton Arboretum, 1900 Associated Rd., Fullerton, CA 92831.
Tyme L. Laine
ISHPEMING -- Tyme L. Laine, age 84, of 757 Duncan Ave. Ishpeming passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she has resided for the past 3 years.
Tyme was born September 3, 1917 in Gowan, MN to the late Charles & Mary (Koistinen) Hill. Tyme worked for many different companies as a bookkeeper while living in Minnesota. In 1962 she moved to Ishpeming.
Tyme was a member Ladies of Kaleva and the Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was the treasurer from 1972 until 1983. She was an avid quilter & seamstress.
Tyme is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edwin Laine, 2 daughters; Mary Lou Laine of Shoreview, MN and Donna Laine and her husband William Reid of Stacy, MN, 2 sisters; Lillian Nault of Joliet, IL and Mayme Ciocarelli of Zapata, TX, 2 brothers; Edwin (Aili) Hill of Savage, MN and Raymond (Mildred) Hill of Beloit, WI a cousin Martha Harrison of Duluth, MN and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen Kujala.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki & Rev. C. Bruce Ulstad officiating. Burial will be in Wawina, MN.
Friends may call at the Bethel Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorial considerations may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or the Alzheimers Association.

Walter Hasselblad
GREEN BAY, WI -- Walter Hasselblad, 78, died September 25, 2001 at a local hospital. He was born May 10, 1923 in Negaunee, Michigan to Olive (Johnson) and Albin Hasselblad. His father died when Walter was one year old. This early loss gave him a lifelong understanding of the importance of family. Love of family was to become his trademark and his legacy.
Walter graduated from Green Bay West High School in the class of 1942 and then entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific on Saipan. Ater the war, he returned to Green Bay and joined his brother, Ambrose, as a partner in Hasselblad Machine Company.
Love of learning and understanding of the importance of education were central to him. He took courses at UW-GB and traveled extensively throughout Europe.
In his later years, his greatest enjoyment came from his ability to be in his own home and to share life with the circle of family and close friends and neighbors who surrounded him.
Walter was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Beja Vets of Valor, Theodore Roosevelt Lodge #322, Beja Temple, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Palestine Commandery No. 20 Knights Templar, Martha Washington Chapter 124 Order of Eastern Star, the Green Bay Shrine Club, and the Elks Club. He was a past Worshipful Master of Roosevelt Lodge and a past Commander of the Commandery.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ambrose, and sister-in-law Marie. He is survived by his niece Kathryn Hasselblad-Pascale (Ron) and his nephew Peter Hasselblad (Linda). He is further survived by a great niece and nephew, Jessica Pascale and Nathaniel Pascale. Jessica and Nathaniel brought special joy to him, and he to them.
Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, 321 South Madison Street, Green Bay where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Lange officiating. Burial will be in Negaunee Cemetery, Negaunee, Michigan. Lyndahl Funeral Home is serving the family
The family wishes to thank Kevin Rosteing, M.D. for his care of their uncle. Life was a precious gift to him; those who knew him well helped him live life to the fullest. We will miss him greatly, but we know he is "native to eternity". This child of God is now home.

Dorothy Louise Seymour
ESCANABA -- Dorothy Louise Seymour, 69, of 110 South 5th in Escanaba, passed away Friday at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette. She was born March 30, 1932 in Escanaba and was the daughter of Henry and Maude (Shepley) Seymour, Sr. She was employed as a housekeeper for Father Alloyius Hasenberg serving in many different parishes including St. Rita's Catholic in Trenary, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Calumet and St. Agnes's Catholic Church in Iron River until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Trenary Senior Citizens Center, Daughters of Isabella, Harbor Tower Prayer Group and she enjoyed knitting. Dorothy Louise Seymour is survived by: Five Brothers- Glenn (Janis) Seymour of North Delta, Donald (Donna) Seymour of Danforth, Marcel "Red" (Shirley) Seymour of North Delta, Jerry (Kathy) Seymour of North Delta, Henry Seymour of North Delta and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Irvin Seymour.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Escanaba. Liturgical prayers will be recited at 6:30 P.M. Sunday at the Anderson Fuenral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Louise Seymour will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Trenary with Father Richard Schaeffer officiating. Burial will take place in the Trenary Cemetery. A lunch will be served at St. Rita's Catholic Church Hall following the burial. The Anderson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Rachel S. Ostlund
ISHPEMING -- Rachel S. Ostlund, age 83, of the Woodland Assisted Living in Negaunee and formerly of 409 S. Fourth St. Ishpeming died Thursday, September 27, 2001 a the Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming where she had been a patient for the past four days.
Rachel was born December 9, 1917 in Ishpeming to the late Samuel and Edla (Ilomaki) Sapila and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1935. She worked for several years as Sam Cohodas' personal secretary along with doing volunteer work at the Bay Cliff Health Camp in the 1960s and 70s. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the Wawonowin Country Club, where she enjoyed her golf and was a former member of the Ishpeming Coral Club.
She is survived by a daughter Barbara (James) Ward of Norfolk, MA; a son John (Vicki) Ostlund of Ishpeming; 5 grandchildren- Sarah and Sharon Ward, Amber, Crystal and Carly Ostlund, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Sherman "Pug" Ostlund in July of 2000, 4 brother and 2 sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 1, 2001 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki and C. Bruce Ulstad to officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemtery.
Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 5 until 7 P.M. on Sunday and from 10 until 11AM on Monday at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Mike Molby, Robert Koivula, Bill Sapila, Larry McCarthy, George Ostlund and Ed Gagnon.

Vito P. Roti
NEGAUNEE -- Vito P. Roti, age 76, of 420 Croix St., Negaunee, died at 12:50 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at the Bell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Roti was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Ishpeming to Vincenzo & Rosa (Tasson) Roti, was a graduate of Ishpeming High School and was a life long area resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII having served with the Armed Guard Service in the Pacific. He worked for CCI, the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., and most recently for Charter Inc. as a mining equipment sales representative for 20 years, retiring in Aug. of 1986. He was life member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge, served on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, Ishpeming, served in several different offices with the Sons of Italy and the Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the Negaunee Lions Club, and the U.S. Navy Armed Guard Association.
Surviving are his wife, L. Jean (Carlson) Roti, 1 son, Michael (Charlene) Roti, Marquette, 1 daughter, Lois (John) Gorto, Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren; Bryan & Jeremy Roti, 1 sister, Mary Manzoline, Ishpeming, several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Frank, Rocco & Salvatore Roti, a half brother, John Colombo, and half sister, Rose Colombo.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the Koskey Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Koskey Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until the time of services at 7:00 PM Sunday.
Edward J. Dahlstrom
GWINN -- Edward J. Dahlstrom, 95, of 292 Francis Mine Drive, Gwinn, died peacefully Friday afternoon, September 28, 2001 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming where he had been a patient for one day. He had been in declining health for one year.
Edward was born in Negaunee on April 2, 1906. He was the son of Swedish immigrants, Gustav and Anna Britta (Larson) Dahlstrom. He attended the Negaunee High School. He joined the work force at the age of fourteen, working at various lumbering camps and the Negaunee Mine.
In 1932, he joined the Marine Corps. He served with the 4th, 6th and 2nd Marine Brigade in various Asiatic Stations. The majority of his time was spent in Shanghai, China during the Japanese invasion of Mainland China. Known as the "China Marines", their mission was to protect foreign embassies and interests. He was honorably discharged in 1938.
His remaining years were spent with the U.S. Government Civil Service at various Army posts in the San Francisco, Oakland Bay, California region.
He retired to Beaverton, Oregon. In 1997 he moved to Gwinn to live with his niece. He spent much time and energy promoting his love for his country. He was an avid reader and loved going for walks with his beloved cats. Ed will be remembered for his gentle spirit and wonderful sense of humor. To all who knew him he was known as "Uncle" and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by two nieces, Bonnie (Thomas) Hares of Gwinn and Gladys (Pete) Leanes of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Werner and Hilmer.
Cremation will take place with burial to follow in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will hold graveside services at a later date.
Friends wishing to remember "Uncle" may consider the Marquette-Alger Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Robert Koski
MARQUETTE -- Robert P. Koski, 74, of 536 Rock Street, Marquette, died Friday afternoon, September 28, 2001 at Marquette General Hospital.
Mr. Koski was born in Marquette, Michigan on December 6, 1926 to the late Frank and Agnes (Riopelle) Koski and was a lifelong area resident. He attended the Bishop Baraga School System and later served during World War II with the United States Navy. As a result of his service, Bob was decorated with the American Theatre Ribbon, the European Theatre Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.
On June 17, 1950, he married the former Lucille Bazinette at St. Peter Cathedral.
He retired in March of 1989 from the Marquette Public School System. Prior to that, he was employed as a meat cutter for 27 years.
He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, American Legion Post 44 and Monsignor Nolan B. McKevitt Council #689, Knights of Columbus. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Bob enjoyed watching his sons play fast pitch softball for 30 years and never missed a game. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent his spare time reconditioning guns, hunting, fishing, golfing and watching Tiger baseball.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille Koski; two sons, Bob Koski, Jr. and his friend Polly Beauchamp and Duane Koski, both of Marquette; one sister, Shirley (Bill) Loikets of Downers Grove, IL; four grandchildren, Todd (Stephanie) Koski, Misty Koski and her friend John O'Dovero, Brad (Wendy) Koski, Traci Koski and her fiancee, Bryan Waters; two great grandchildren, Karisa and Madison Koski; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents were brothers, Frank, Harold and Willard Koski; also, sisters, Vivian McCarthy, Estelle Hebert and Mary Jane LaMora.
Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8pm, where a parish prayer service will be conducted at 7pm and members of the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Lawrence Gauthier officiating. Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Koski's grandchildren, Todd, Misty, Brad and Traci Koski, also Lawrence Bazinette and Donald Koskey.
