L'ANSE -- Adelaide Irene Jurmu, age 91, died December 29, 2001. Born in L'Anse on February 5, 1910. Preceded in death by her parents Max and Lillian Krolik and her sister Dorothy Vollwerth. Survivors include: Mary Ann Jurmu (daughter), Sacramento, CA; Robert Vollwerth (nephew) and wife Linda, Houghton, MI; Dawn Ver Bust (granddaughter) and husband Michael, Christopher and Alyssa (great grandchildren) Manitowoc, WI; Jack J. Myners, Jr. (grandson) Air Force - Germany; Lori Hiltunen (grand niece) and husband Don, Jordan (great grand nephew) Brianne and Reilly (great grand nieces) Houghton, MI; Richard Vollwerth (grand nephew), Houghton, MI. Bertha Martell
NEWBERRY -- Bertha Martell, 88, of Newberry, died Saturday morning December 29, 2001 at the Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.
Born October 21, 1913 in Dover, daughter of the late Malcolm & Dora B. (Goslow) Clerk, Bertha had been a lifelong Newberry resident. A devoted housewife and homemaker, Bertha was an outdoorsperson enjoying hunting, fishing, and going to camp with her son-in-law and friend Bob.
Besides her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by husband Archie in 1983; son Orville Lambert in 1953; daughter-in-law Theresa Lambert in 1995; sister Thelma Wood and brothers Ivan, Ai and Russell Clark. Survivors included her son Mack Lambert of McMillan, daughter Sandy (Bob) Reis of Griffin, GA, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held Saturday January 12, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with Sharon Baker presiding. Inurnment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry. Those who wish may contribute to the Kidney Dialysis Unit, c/o Helen Newberry Joy Hospital. Carol Ann Oja
MARQUETTE -- Carol Ann Oja, 51, of 316 Pine Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday afternoon, January 1, 2002 at Marquette General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She had been hospitalized one day.
Carol was born June 20, 1950 in Marquette, a daughter of Glenn W. and Mary A. (Belmore) Manning, and was a lifelong Marquette resident. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three daughters, Tammy, Nikki and Ashley; two sons, Randall and Tom; two grandsons, Paul and Tyler, her mother, Mary A. Manning, three sisters, Jacqueline, Debra, and Mary Lynn; a brother, Glenn, Jr., her grandmother, Lucille Manning; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; and cousins. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Glenn, on August 9, 2001.
No services are scheduled at this time. The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.
George Rudolph Mannisto, Sr.
MUNISING -- George Rudolph Mannisto, Sr., age 86, of Munising, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2001 at 4:45am. He was the youngest child born to the late Alex and Hilma (Harju) Mannisto on May 2, 1915. Siblings who preceded him in death were sisters, Hilija Jokinen, Sandra Johnson, Ann Lehtonen and brothers, Toivo, Emile, Arthur, Matthew and Victor Mannisto. His beloved wife Isabelle (Kelly) Mannisto preceded him in death in January of 1985. George is survived by ten children, George (Mildred) Mannisto, Jr., Hilma (Dick) Root, Mary (Jerry) Thompson, Howard (Tina) Mannisto, Harold Mannisto, Charles (Ingrid) Mannisto, Kenneth Mannisto, James Mannisto, Elizabeth (Robert) Reimer and Clara (Steve) Rochefort. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
George was raised on a farm in Eben Junction. In the late 1940s, he and his brother Toivo ran a logging and sawmill operation in the Cusino-Grand Marais area. George left the area to work at the American Box Board Corporation in Grand Rapids, Michigan and returned to the AuTrain area to settle in 1953. While residing in AuTrain, he was a small logging operator. George was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt, especially white tail deer. Being the true Finn, he loved his coffee and his sauna. George was a very kind man who loved life and his family.
Services for George will be on Thursday, January 3, 2001. Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Pastors Kurt and Mary Beth Kovanen will conduct the funeral in the funeral home chapel at noon. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
Louis R. Gross
L'ANSE -- Louis R. Gross, age 69, a resident of the Covington Rest Home, passed away on Monday December 31, 2001 at the rest home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 2, at 2 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. March Renisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Ontonagon County in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
Nathan James Exelby
MUNISING -- Nathan James Exelby, infant son of Carol and Greg Exelby of N4129 Powell Lake Road, Munising was stillborn on Friday, December 28, 2001 at 9:45 p.m. at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming. Nate is survived by; his parents, his big sister, Alissa DaNean Exelby at home; paternal grandparents, Ernie and Judy Exelby of Powell Lake; maternal grandparents, Paulette and Terry Kordish of Ishpeming; great grandparents, Virgle Burch, Lena Exelby, Marvin and Wanda Wilson, and Bertha Kordish; great-great grandmother, Pauline Scobey; aunts and uncles, Tim and Susan Exelby, Sonja Robinson, Shanie and Mark Lagatutta, and Janet Fitzpatrick; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by Carol's father and his grandfather, James Harold Fitzpatrick.
Pastor Robert Tripp will conduct a memorial service for Nathan at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002 at the Munising Wesleyan Church in Wetmore, Michigan. Visiting time for family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore, Michigan.
Ruth Lillian Saari Lundgren
COLLEYVILLE, TX -- December 18, 1925- December 11, 2001 Born to immigrant Finnish parents, Kaarina and Oke Saari, sister of Sylvia (Eugene) LaCosse (Ishpeming) and Julie (Wallace) LaMere (Champion), aunt to numerous nieces and nephews in the UP. Predeceased by siblings Ellen (Eino) Hyry (Champion), Wallace (Elsie) Saari, (Champion), Leonard Saari, and infant twins. Mother of Barbara Lundgren (Steve Eaker), Colleyville, Texas, Cynthia (John) McGrath, Seattle Washington, and Christine Lundgren (Richard Taylor), Vallejo California. Grandmother of Quinn (18), Brenna (16) and Ike (12) Eaker, Tyler (20) and Cody (18) McGrath. Married to Rudolf Charles Lundgren for 50 years; Rudy passed on in April of 1995. Ruth was Valedictorian of the Class of 1943 Champion High School. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Since Rudy's death, Ruth resided in Colleyville Texas at the home of her eldest daughter, Barbara. Ruth was in good health until Thanksgiving, when she complained of abdominal and leg pain. She suffered a heart attack on December 9th, was hospitalized, and quickly crossed over on December 11th while resting comfortably and awaiting test results. Ruth was a tireless crossword puzzler, knitter, and voracious reader. At her request, there were no services and she was cremated upon her death. Victor F. Mikko
LANSING, MI -- Victor F. Mikko, of Lansing, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2001. Victor was born May 10, 1918 in Hancock, MI. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the 8th Air Force, 453rd Bomb Squad in England as a Navigator/ Radar Bombardier during World War II over Germany. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a member of VFW Post 3165 in Negaunee.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Ruth (Beard) Mikko and Marian (Upright) Mikko; two sons, Ronald J. and Jeffrey A. Mikko; his sister Elsie Korpela; and two brothers, Peter and Isaac Mikko.
He is survived by 3 sons, Thomas of Lansing, Robert (Margie) of Lansing, Richard (Linda) of Negaunee; a daughter, Kathy Konopnicki of Lansing; one sister, Dagmar (Del) Haeger of Lansing; a brother Karl (Florence) of Bark River, MI; 9 grandchildren, Steven and Barry Mikko, Stacey Feldpausch, Shelly Ryan, Brent (Chell) Mikko, Troy (Karen) Mikko, Jerry and Daniel Konopnicki, and Amy Churchill of California; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Per our father's wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes laid to rest in the Upper Peninsula where he will be at peace with his maker. We will be having a small memorial and burial service in celebration of his life in the spring of 2002.
James B. "Jim" Warner
HARVEY -- James B. "Jim" Warner, 77, of 879 Lakewood Lane, Harvey, entered eternal life Monday evening, December 31, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls where he had resided since June. Jim was born May 4,1924 in Parshallville, a son of the late Carl and Alta (Morgan) Warner, and was raised in Parshallville and Howell. On September 15, 1942 he married the former Marguerite R. Todd in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escanaba. The couple later settled in the Marquette area and began to establish their home and raise a family, which would eventually include 14 children. In 1943 Jim entered the US Army, serving in the infantry during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Jim returned to high school to finish the last half of his senior year, and was the first veteran to return to school to complete his high school education. He then entered Northern Normal Teacher's College (now Northern Michigan University), attending for three years. He later was employed for 25 years as an accountant at the Marquette Branch Prison, retiring in 1985. Jim's family always came first, and he especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, stamp and coin collecting. Jim was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the St. Anthony of Padua Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order. A loving and devoted husband, father, and proud grandparent, he is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Marguerite; five daughters, Theresa (Craig) Lundsted of Caro, Mary (Joseph) Morse of Fox Lake, WI, Nancy (Robert Maurovich) Warner of Bay City, Patricia (Donn) McKinnon of San Francisco, CA, and Judith (Dan) Pogorzelski of Iron River; nine sons, James (Linda) Warner of Alsea, OR, Donald Warner of Lebanon, OR, John (Faye) Warner of Ishpeming, Tom (Natalie) Warner of Battle Field, WA, Robert (Patricia) Warner of Palmdale, CA, Joe Warner of San Francisco, CA, Peter (Darcy) Warner of Barre, VT, David (Cindy) Warner of Lakewood, CA, and Daniel Warner of Richmond Hill, GA; thirty grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Louise Warner; two sisters, Marion Roberts and Ona Corser; and brothers, Frank Weeks and Ronald Warner. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey on Friday, January 4, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. Secular Franciscan Wake Service. Visitation will continue until 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church with Rev. Guy Thoren, pastor, and Rev. Thomas Schmied, OFM Cap, as con-celebrants. Escorts will be, grandchildren, David Warner, Joel Morse, Christopher and Steven Lunsted, and Jeff Adams. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church's social hall. Spring burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. James Lawrence McCarthy
NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA -- James L. McCarthy (Jim), 84, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 21 at Tandem Nursing Home, New Port Richey Florida. Jim is survived by his wife Rosemary (Bussiere) formerly of Marquette, daughter Mary McCarthy Manthei of Naperville Illinois, son in law James Manthei and grandchildren, Michael and Katherine. Rosemary and Jim would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 23.
A professional pilot, Jim began his career as a flight instructor in Wisconsin and Marquette, Michigan. After being a test pilot with Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp serving in the Air Transport Command's Ferry Command as a Fight Officer in North Africa and India. After returning from WWII Jim and his partner, Jack Veiht opened the Northern Michigan School of Aviation in Marquette. Following the closing of the school, he was the airport manager at the Stevens Point Wisconsin Airport. He then joined Singer Corporation (Controls Division) as Manager Aviation Operations. Active in Chicagoland Aviation, he was one of the founding members of the Chicagoland Business Pilots Association. After 26 years with Singer, Jim and Rosemary retired to New Port Richey, Florida in 1982. Jim was a member of the QB's (Tampa hanger).
A memorial service will be held in New Port Richey at Trinity Memorial Gardens on January 5. Any donations should be made to the Alzheimer Association.

Linda Ann Narotzky
ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA -- Linda Ann Narotzky died at her home at 2804 2nd Street SW, Rochester, Minnesota December 27, 2001. She was the daughter of Archie Narotzky M.D. and Betty Rice Narotzky.
Linda was born June 11, 1950 in Marquette, Michigan. She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1968 and then attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1972 with a B.A. degree in Social Science, and in 1974 with an M.A. in Education. She attended nursing school at Northern Michigan University, graduating with honors and a B.S. in Nursing. Following graduation from nursing school she worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota as a nurse on the psychiatry unit from 1980 to 1984. She then took a position as a nursing instructor, teaching at Winona State University in Rochester, Minnesota while completing her Masters Degree in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing at the University of Minnesota.
Linda was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society and the Sigma Theta Tau Academic Honor Society. She was on the volunteer staff of the Marilyn Brodie Women's Shelter in Rochester, Minnesota. Her nursing career was cut short by a long battle with Systemic Lupus Erythematosis and lymphoma with which she suffered for over ten years before her death.
She is survived by her twin brother, Robert Narotzky, M.D. of Casper, Wyoming; sister Ellen Kennedy, Ph.D. of Edina, Minnesota; and her father, Archie Narotzky M.D., orginally from Ishpeming, Michigan and currently of Clearwater, Florida and her aunt, Goldie Paul of Ishpeming, Michigan. She will be remembered by her six nieces and nephews: Nicole, Sarah, Emma and Jacob Narotzky and Louisa and Johnathan Kennedy and by all those who knew her as the most kindhearted, generous, selfless and courageous person they have ever known.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 5, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Mayo Clinic Marriott in Rochester, Minnesota. Reino "Dibby" Bernhardt Pesola
HUMBOLDT -- Reino "Dibby" Bernhardt Pesola, age 76 of 3118 Co. Rd. F.A. Champion passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at the U.P. Home Health & Hospice's inpatient unit located at Bell Memorial Hospital following a 5 year battle with cancer.
Reino was born September 22, 1925 in Humboldt Twp., MI to the late Erick & Helmi (Kulju) Pesola. He was a life long area resident. Reino graduated from Champion High School, class of 1943. He worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for 35 years, retiring in August 1985. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion, and the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447. Reino enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at camp.
Reino is survived by his wife, whom he married July 23, 1960, Carol (Penska) Pesola, 2 daughters: Julie (Brad) Barthels of Minneaoplis, MN and Kathy (David) Wyble of Marquette, a sister Edith (Bill) Anttila of Frisco, CO, 6 grandchildren Nicholas, Zachary, Matthew & Jonathan Barthels, Amy Pesola and Alex Wyble, numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Reino was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Wiljo, Sanford, George, and Ernie, 5 sisters; Cecelia LaForge, Inga Oja, Laura Stetson, Laila Marietti and Lydia Pesola.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, January 5, 2002 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion with Rev. Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery. Richard Francis "Frizzy" Emanuelson
NEGAUNEE -- Richard Francis "Frizzy" Emanuelson, 82, 115 Pioneer Ave. Negaunee died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 31, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Emanuelson was born Feb. 2, 1919 in Ishpeming to John B. & Hilda (Verrant) Emanuelson, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1938, and was a lifelong area resident. He was employed as a Distribution Manager for the Milwaukee Journal/ Sentinel for 41 years retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Negaunee Elks Lodge, the Negaunee Eagles Club, both the Negaunee and Ishpeming Cribbage Leagues and was a regular visitor at the Negaunee Senior Center. He was an avid fisherman & hunter in his younger years. He loved playing cards, dancing & walking.
Surviving are 3 daughters; Joan (Pete) Peterson, of Negaunee, Mary (Doug) Brassard-Christensen, of Marquette, Ann (Jon) Matthews, of Ishpeming, 1 son, John (Mary Carlson) Emanuelson, of Negaunee, 8 grandchildren; Scott & Tim Doren, Kim, Craig & Eric Emanuelson, Marc Brassard, Jacob & Angela Riddell, 5 great grandchildren, a special friend, Corrine Valella, of Negaunee, several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Alice (Jacobson) on June 16, 1996.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Koskey Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Harmon, pastor of Mitchell United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Good Shepherd Columbarium at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Koskey Funeral Home from 5-8 PM on Thursday and for an hour prior to the service on Friday. The Negaunee Elks will have memorial rites at 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
William (Bill) Palomaki
WEST ALLIS, WI -- William (Bill) Palomaki, age 64 of 2405 South 62nd St., West Allis, WI., passed away December 21, 2001 at home. William was born August 8, 1937 to the late John and Anna (Leppanen) Palomaki in Ishpeming, MI. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1955. He served four years in the Navy. He retired from Harley Davison Corporation in Milwaukee, January 2000. He is survived by his wife Joyce, sons William (Linda), Scott (Jennifer), Jeff and Paul, grandfather to five, brothers Charles (Therese) of Munising and Edwin (Barb) Palomaki of Iron Mountain.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Anna Palomaki, brohters Clifford, Calvin and Robert.
Funeral services were held Thursday 11 a.m., December 27 at Schoffs Funeral Home. Interment Pine Lawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee, WI.
Betty Jane Hermanson
MARQUETTE -- Betty Jane Hermanson, passed away on December 28 2001 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Ml.
She was born on July 31, 1922 in Marquette, the first child of Edwin and Simone Hermanson. Her early years were spent in and around Marquette where she enjoyed the freedom of the great outdoors and developed a lifelong love of nature.
Betty graduated from John D. Pierce High School in Marquette. For several years she summered on Mackinac Island, working at Bennett Hall with her sisters. She attended Northern Michigan College in Marquette but interrupted her studies to work for the World War II effort at Willow Run near Detroit.
She later studied hairdressing and was employed as a beautician at Hudson's. She continued to live and work in the Detroit area until 1956 when she moved north to be with family and friends in Cheboygan. There she established her own business, BETTY'S BEAUTY SHOP, from which she retired in 1999. Her lifelong friends, the friends she met through her many years in her shop and her family were her greatest joys.
Betty had great concern for others and a strong sense of community. A great animal lover, she was an ardent supporter of the Cheboygan Co. Humane Society; and her personal interest in the beautification of the downtown area was given recognition by the Cheboygan City Council.
It was Betty's nature to put the needs of others before her own. She was always ready to help anyone in need, and, over the years, she did so, continuously, quietly and spontaneously.
She is survived by four siblings and their families: brothers, Edwin "Sonny" (Jean) Hermanson and Donald (Lilly Ann) Hermanson of Marquette; sisters, Marilyn (Gene) Culbertson of Dalhart, TX and Bonnie (Donald) Haapala of Escanaba, Ml; and brother-in-law, Norman Edwards, of Cheboygan. Her nieces and nephews include Janice Hermanson and Vicki (Bill) Lawrence of Marquette; Laurie Hermanson Britton of Honolulu, Hawaii, formerly of Marquette; Donald (Sue) Hermanson II, Santa Clarita, California, David, Daniel and Donald J. Haapala; Charlene Culbertson Womble and Eddie Culbertson; and Janice Edwards Geiss and Norman (Debbie) Edwards, III, and several grandnieces and grandnephews, including Angie Britton, Xining, China (formerly of Marquette) and Tyler Britton and Andy and Danny Lawrence of Marquette.
Preceeding her passing were her father, Edwin (1948), her mother, Simone, (1978), her sister, Janice Edwards, (1984), and her nephew, Milton Culbertson (1992).
A memorial celebration of Betty's life will take place with friends in Cheboygan. Private services will be held for family later in Marquette.
In keeping with Betty's desire to help others, the family is establishing a Betty Hermanson Memorial Fund for KIDS IN NEED through the Citizens National Bank in Cheboygan.
Guido D. Gravedoni
DEPERE -- Guido D. Gravedoni, 80, DePere, died Thursday, January 3, 2002 at a local hospital with family at his side. Born in Princeton, Michigan on August 8, 1921 he is the son of the late James and Adele (Forini) Gravedoni. He married the former Miriam Mantyla on November 14, 1942. Guido and Miriam spend most of their life together in Marquette, Michigan, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. The last six years he has been a resident of DePere. Miriam preceded him in death on April 12, 1997. Guido retired from Lakeshore Inc. after 38 years of service in Marquette, MI. He enjoyed being with people and developed a great fondness of the many customers he served and worked with at the DePere Piggly Wiggly. Guido enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, and especially times spent with his family. He was a member of the Green Bay East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survived by his six children and their spouses: Mary Jane (Ken) Henry of Cincinnati, OH; Daryl (Lorna) Gravedoni of Brazil; Robert (Bob) Gravedoni of Atlanta, GA; Jeff (Sherry) Gravedoni of Appleton; Gwen (Steve) Borga of DePere; Barry (Dominga) Gravedoni of Green Bay; one daughter-in-law: Judith Clark of Atlanta, GA; 14 grandchildren: Troy, Cyndi, Kenneth, Tonja, and Timothy; Pamela Robert, Jr., and Dana; Christopher and Matthew; Trixie and Steve Jr.; Guido, Jr. and Jason; several great grandchildren, two sisters: Mafalda Gravedoni and Maria Zoppetti both of Negaunee, MI; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years - Miriam; parents; two grandsons; Daryl and Mark: 18 brothers and sisters. Friends may call at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2895 East Mason Street; from 3:30 P.M. Sunday, January 6, 2002, until the time of memorial service. Memorial services Sunday 4:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall with Richard Valentine, Minister presiding. There will be a small reception immediately following the memorial service. Hazel Mae Cunningham
L'ANSE -- Hazel Mae Cunningham, age 93 of L'Anse, passed away on Thursday, Jaunuary 3, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, skilled nurse unit. At her request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in her honor on January 18, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Victory Christian Assembly Church in Baraga. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
Mossimo J. Romeli
ISHPEMING -- Mossimo J. Romeli, age 85, of 830 E. Empire St,. Ishpeming, died Thursday morning, January 3, 2002 at the Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming following a short illness.
Mossimo was born February 22, 1916 in Princeton, MI, the son of Frank and Teresa (Bendotti) Romeli. He was a graduate of the Gwinn High School, class of 1934. Mossimo served as a Finance Technical Clerk in the United States Army from April 9, 1943 until March 6, 1946. Mossimo had worked at the Peninsula Bank in Ishpeming, retiring in 1978 as executive Vice President and had served on the Board of Directors at the Bank for many years. In addition to activities in the field of banking, Mossimo had served as a director for the Greater Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Ishpeming and Surrounding Townships United Fund, was past president of the Hematite Development Corp. and held memberships in the following organizations: The American Legion, Elks Lodge #447, Wawonowin Country Club, Paisano Club, Ishpeming Historical Society and the National Ski Hall of Fame.
Mossimo was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he had been a member of the board of trustees and served on the building committee for St. John's School. He was a former member of the finance committee for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Marquette. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on Big Perch Lake and wintering in Gulf Shores, AL.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen of Ishpeming; a sister, Letizia Taccolini of Negaunee; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marie and Art Wassberg of Marquette; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Mai, Vera LaFave and Marie Romeli; and a brother, John Romeli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Peter Oberto to officiate. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Marquette.
Friends may call at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Mossimo's nephews.
