Ingrid J. Dowrick

ISHPEMING -- Ingrid J. Dowrick, age 92, formerly of 513 N. Second St. Ishpeming, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she has resided for the past 3 years.

Ingrid was born March 19, 1908 in Negaunee to the late Alexander & Hannah (Smith) Forstrom. She was a life long area resident.

Ingrid was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where she took part in the United Methodist Women, & Mary Circle, she was also a member of Royal Neighbors of America, she donated her time at the Ishpeming Senior Center and the National Ski Hall of Fame.

Ingrid is survived by three children: Robert (Peg) Dowrick of Rockford, IL, Roger (Susan) Dowrick of North Lake Location and Nancy (Charles) Frassetto of Gwinn, a daughter in law Ruth Dowrick of Negaunee, two sisters: Elsie McGeady of Tucson, AZ and Freada Kropp of Marquette, 12 grandchildren; Pam (Bill) Rautio, Todd (Sandra) Dowrick, Corey (Tracie) Dowrick, John (Triana) Dowrick, Thomas (Mary) Dowrick, Christine (Scott) McDonald, Deb Frassetto, Mark (Kathy) Frassetto, Michael (Xiang Wu) Frassetto, David (Jenifer) Frassetto, Diane (George) Byykkonen and David Dowrick; 19 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, four nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, a son Donald and a sister Anne Bergeron.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2001 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce C. Hatch officiating. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Sunday 3:00- 6:00 p.m. and on Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church from 12:00 noon until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Ingrid's grandsons.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Ruth Ann Dorris

MARQUETTE -- Ruth Ann Dorris, age 89, passed away peacefully after a short stay at Eastwood Nursing Center with the loving assistance of Hospice and her family. She previously resided at Brookridge Heights in Marquette. For two decades she resided in Royal Oak and Pontiac, Michigan areas where she and her husband and children shared their enthusiasm for hunting, camping and fishing; and then for 21 years in Bradenton, Florida, where she and her husband retired in 1977. Mrs. Dorris is survived by two children; Hugh (Sharon) Dorris of Gladwin, MI, Sandra (Gerald) Pirkola of Ishpeming, MI, six grandchildren; Colleen (Jon) Jason, Ann (Jonas) Clark, Laura (Mark) O'Neill, all of Marquette and Deanna Frederick of Shelby Township, MI, Debra (Michael) Whitehead of Walled Lake, MI, and Huston Dorris of Los Angeles, CA and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hugh Dorris, in 1995. Honoring Mrs. Dorris' request, there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are being handled by Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held for family and friends at the family camp in Lower Northern Michigan in the spring.

Aaron Stein
ESCANABA -- Aaron Stein, age 76, of 1401 N. 23rd Lot #177 died Saturday morning February 3, 2001at home following a lengthy illness.

Aaron was born August 6, 1924 in Escanaba the son of Alex and Fannie (Joseph) Stein and was a graduate of Escanaba High School class of 1943. Following graduation Aaron served in the U.S. Navy during WW II where he served in the Pacific Theater. Following the war he returned to Milwaukee, WI. where he met and married Nancy Wagner on March 20, 1949 in Milwaukee. They moved to Ishpeming, MI. and Aaron along with his brother Phil opened and operated the Stein Clothing Store until 1965. In 1965 with brothers Phillip and Larry they acquired the Fair store in Escanaba and operated the store until 1993. Together they also operated Big Boy Restaurants throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Aaron was an active businessman and served on a local bank board, Salvation Army

board of directors, and served on the board of the Monz Pamp Memorial Assciation. His

hobbies included Native American History and the collection of Native American

In addition to his wife Nancy survivors include: 1 son: Steve Stein of Escanaba,1 daughter: Linda Arbour of Escanaba 2 brothers: Larry Stein of Escanaba Meyer Stein of Long Beach, CA. 2 grandchildren: Scott Arbour of Marquette Alan Arbour of Escanaba 1 great grandson: Aaron Stein of Marquette

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother Phillip Stein.

Aaron's family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home with Rabbi Sidney A. Vineberg officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Home Cemetery in Marinette, WI. Memorials for Aaron Stein may be directed to Bay De Noc Hospice, envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba.

James F. Fetterhoff

BIG BAY -- James F. Fetterhoff, 40, of Big Bay, entered eternal life Friday evening, February 2, 2001, shortly after admittance to Marquette General Hospital following a snowmobile accident in Powell Township. He was born December 14, 1960 in Marquette, a son of Henry and Janalea (Carey) Fetterhoff, and was raised in the Marquette area. On January 20, 1979 he married Teresa Milton in Lowell. He had been a Big Bay resident most of his life. Jim was employed as a drywaller for over 25 years, and during his career had worked in many places around the country. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, and mud racing. He was also a devoted Green Bay Packer and Mark Martin NASCAR fan. Jim was a member of Carpenters Union Local # 1510 and Marquette Moose Lodge #1059. A devoted and loving husband, father, proud grandfather, son, and brother, he is survived by: his wife of 22 years, Teresa; three daughters, Michelle Fetterhoff of Lowell, Hollie Fetterhoff and Kaila Fetterhoff both of Big Bay; his

grandson and favorite companion, Terryn James Quayle-Fetterhoff; his father, Henry Fetterhoff of Lowell; two sisters, Rebecca Fetterhoff and Kelly Fetterhoff both of Lowell; two brothers, Stephen Fetterhoff of Big Bay and Timothy (Donna) Fetterhoff of Lake Odessa; his mother-in-law, Ada Milton of Lake George; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his mother. Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 6, from 3 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 7 pm Tuesday evening in the funeral home with Rev. Guy Thoren, officiating. Burial will be made in the Powell Township Cemetery in Big Bay in the spring.

Mabel T. Andersen

Mabel T. Andersen, age 90, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Bayside Village, in L'Anse where she has been a resident patient for three years.

She was born March 7, 1910 in Skanee, daughter to the late Ernest and Theresa (Sandberg) Fredrickson. Mabel married Dave Andersen on November 23, 1928 at First Lutheran in Baraga County. She worked at Baraga County Memorial Hospital for 22 years as a nurse aide in OB, retiring in 1978. She was a member of United Methodist Church, L'Anse United Methodist Women, Order of Eastern Star for more than 45 years, a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, life member of the VFW Post 3897 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 144 Auxiliary, AARP, and the Fratemal Order of the Eagles Aerie # 2287 Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son Ken (Anne) Andersen of L'Anse, a brother Harry Fredrickson of Escanaba, two sisters Ruth Johnson of Baraga, Esther (Elmer) Lind of Chicago, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded by her husband Dave in 1963, son Donald Andersen, daughter Margaret Dompier, brothers Morgan and George Fredrickson, and sister Ebba Mitchell.

The visitation will be on Tuesday, February 6, from 6-9:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The Eagles auxiliary will conduct a service at 6:00 p.m., the veteran's auxiliaries will have a service at 6:30 p.m., and the Eastern Star service will be at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Marilyn DeRocher

MARQUETTE -- Marilyn Anne DeRocher, 69, of 2100 M-28 East, Marquette, died Friday afternoon at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. DeRocher was born on February 16, 1931 in the family home in Gaastra, Michigan to the late Clarence and Martha (Morcombe) Johnson. On April 18, 1958, she married William J. DeRocher at Munising.

A graduate of Northern Michigan University, Marilyn taught for the Trenary, Michigan School system for one year and also in the Marquette Public School System for 21 years at the Vandenboom Elementary School. She later volunteered as a docent at NMU's Lee Hall Gallery. She was a member of the Marquette General Hospital Auxiliary.

Marilyn focused mostly on three things in her life, those being her family, her students and grandchildren.

Survivors include three children, Carl Stanley (Cathy) Wegener of Stillwater, MN, Michelle (Ken) Brewer of Homewood, IL and Donna (John) Ferens of Pittsburgh, PA; three sisters, Carrie Lou Johnson of Livonia, MI, Harriet Olson of Lawrence, KS and Winifred Anderson of Marquette, MI; also surviving are six grandchildren, Lisa, Renee and Terri Wegener, William and Sarah Ferens and Katie Brewer; also numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, William J. DeRocher preceded her in death on July 12, 2000.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette from 4 to 7 p.m. where a celebration of Marilyn's life will take place at 7 p.m.

Clara L. Chard

GWINN -- Clara L. Chard, 80, of 259 North County Road 557, Gwinn, died at 12:35 AM, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had been a patient for 2 weeks.

Clara was born July 5, 1920 in Negaunee to James & Mildred (Kendall) Kent, attended Negaunee High School and was a lifelong area resident. She worked for many years as a barmaid in different taverns & clubs.

Clara was a former member of Mitchell United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Gwinn V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Neagunee Eagles Club, and played in the Gwinn Cribbage League.

Surviving are 2 daughters; Betty Brown, of Kenosha, WI, Virginia (Mike) Henthorne, in Arizona, 2 sons; Edward Karki & Richard (Karen) Karki, both of Negaunee, 1 brother, Charles Calvin (Carol) Kent, Ishpeming, 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James Karki in 1975.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Harmon, pastor of Mitchell United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery in Marquette.

Friends may call at the Koskey Funeral Home fom 4-6 PM on Wednesday.

David M. Gerou

TAMPA -- David M. Gerou, passed away suddenly Feb. 5, 2001. He was born in Escanaba. Mr. Gerou grew up in Gwinn, and attended high school there. He moved to Tampa, Florida where he has resided since. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union and the father of 4 children.

He is survived by his father David Jr. Gerou, of Escanaba and Tucson, AZ and his mother Carol DeRusha Bray of Benson, AZ, 2 brothers, Michael Gerou of Kenosha, WI, and Daniel Gerou of Orlando. 4 sisters, Sharon Gerou of Gwinn, Jean Warinski (John) of Rockford MN, Joan Farren of Tucson, AZ, and Javais Box (Gordon) of Albuquerque, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no memorial service at this time. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Howard A. "Howie" Harp

MARQUETTE -- Howard A. "Howie" Harp, 79, of 316 Pine Street, Marquette, died Saturday evening at his home.

Mr. Harp was born October 12, 1921 in Hartford, Wisconsin to the late Walter and Olga (Shadow) Harp. He was employed in inventory management with the Allis Chalmers Corporation for 25 years at West Allis, Wisconsin and later worked for the Jacobus Quick Flash Oil Company for 17 years in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was a life member of the Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Wauwatosa.

Howie loved watching all sports on television, reading, gardening and spending time with his friends. He enjoyed life, had an easy-going personality and was well like by all who knew him.

He is survived by two sisters, Edith (James) Vallone of Milwaukee and Jeanette (Harry) Farchmin of Elm Grove, WI; his special friend, Ron Jarvinen of Marquette; also several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister, Aldine.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Canale- Tonella Funeral Home with Chaplain Leon Jarvis of Marquette General Hospital officiating. Inurnment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Ingrid L. Kilpela

NEWBERRY -- Ingrid L. Kilpela, 94, of Newberry, died Monday morning February 5, 2001 at the Luce County Annex in Newberry.

Born May 17, 1906 in Dollar Bay, daughter of the late Isaac & Christina (Bachman) Franz, Mrs. Kilpela was a graduate of Dollar Bay High School and of the former Northern Michigan College in Marquette receiving a certificate in teaching. A resident of Newberry since 1931, Ingrid was employed at Tahquamenon Area Schools as an elementary teacher mainly in the fourth grade for 30 years until her retirement in 1967. While employed in Newberry, Mrs. Kilpela continued her college education and in 1952 received bachelors degree in education from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Ingrid was a former member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry, member of the Calvary Evangelical Free Lutheran Church in Eben and a member of the Tahquamenon Area Retired School Personnel. An avid reader, she also enjoyed crocheting.

Her life was characterized by an unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ and a desire to share her faith with others, a task that she diligently pursued during her three years in residency at the Luce County Annex.

Ingrid married Hugo Kilpela December 22, 1933 and he preceded her in death on December 27, 1991. Also preceding her in death are her brothers Nels, Hemming and Herbert Franz and her sisters Ebba Bayha, Lil Backels and Evelyn Croze. Survivors include her two daughters Lois Anderson of Troy and Margaret (Robert) Goldthorpe of Helmer, seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren, brother Raymond of Dollar Bay; sisters Eleanor Johnson of Dollar Bay and Lorraine Franz of New York, NY; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday February 8, 2001 at 12:00 noon at the Lakefield Baptist Church in McMillan with Pastors Clive Ellis and Dean Franz officiating. Interment will take place at East Lakefield Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home on Wednesday February 7, 2001 from 4-7 pm and also on Thursday February 8th at the church from 11:30 am until time of services.

Those who wish may contribute to the Tahquamenon Education Foudation in memory of Ingrid L. Kilpela.

Mathew V. Lindfors

ISHPEMING -- Mathew V. Lindfors, age 92, formerly of 828 Wabash St., Ishpeming passed away on Monday February 5, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had been a resident for the past 3 1/2 years. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home.

Carmen Bernadette Wilhelm
NEGAUNEE -- Carmen Bernadette Wilhelm, age 77, formerly of 650 Lake St. and 440 Cherry St., Negaunee died at 5:50 P.M. on Monday Feb. 5, 2001 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since Feb. 12, 1996.

Carmen was born Sep. 27, 1923 in Negaunee to Alfred & Exilda (Brusseau) St. Amaud. She attended Negaunee St. Paul High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1942. She was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Negaunee for a few years before moving to Chicago in the mid 1940's. Carmen married Harold Wilhelm on June 29, 1946. Harold passed away in 1949 and Carmen returned to Negaunee, living there for several years. She lived in California for one year, then returned to Chicago where she lived for 30 years. While in Chicago, she was employed by Diamond Alcali, then as a law clerk for the Cook County Court House, retiring in May 1989. She returned to Negaunee after her retirement.

Carmen was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, and the Negaunee Lady Elks. She enjoyed Broadway shows, music and travel.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Helen St. Arnaud, Negaunee, her nieces & nephews who were very special to her; Kathleen (Fowler) Parker, Burnsville, MN, Paul St. Arnaud, Albuquerque, NM, Charles St. Arnaud, Prairie View, IL, Michael St. Arnaud, Michigan City, IN, Gregg St. Arnaud, LaPorte, IN, Nannette (St. Arnaud) Nietupski, Michigan City, IN, Mary (St. Arnaud) Paulson, Brighton, Ml, Dave St. Arnaud, Skandia and Lynn (St. Arnaud) Bowman, Ishpeming, her cousins: Marcella Belpedio, Ishpeming, Sister Cecile LaForest, of Minnesota, several cousins out of state, several great nieces & great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, sister, Mary Louise Fowler, 3 brothers; Charles, Paul and Fred St. Arnaud.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee with Rev. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Mrs. Wilhelm's nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at St. Paul Church from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Church Scholarship Fund in Carmen's memory.

The arrangements are under the direction of the Koskey Funeral Home.

Gregg S. Pohlman

HOUSTON, TX - Gregg S. Pohlman, age 41 of 1807 Cedarwood Ct., Sugar Land, TX, passed away Sunday February 4, 2001 at the Memorial City Hospital in Houston, TX, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gregg was born March 23, 1959 in Wray, CO to Clyde Pohlman and the late Nancy (Bennett) Pohlman. He moved to Ishpeming, Ml as a youngster, graduating from the Ishpeming High School in 1977. He attended college at Ferris State University prior to his employment in the Oil Services industry. During his years of employment he had resided in Alaska; Castle Rock, CO: and most recently in Sugar Land, TX where he worked as Payroll Manager for the Schlumberger Oilfield Services Co. Gregg loved to attend the Rodeo and being around horses and was a member of the Colorado Horse Rescue Association.

Survivors include his father - Clyde Pohlman of Ishpeming; a brother Brett Pohlman of Marquette; a sister Wendy Pohlman and close friend Connie Hummel of Ishpeming; a nephew Eric Pohlman of Marquette; close friend Miguel "Mike" Venegas of Sugar Land, TX; along with 2 uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy in 1978 and a grandfather Tom Bennett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday February 10, 2001 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce C. Hatch to officiate.

Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00AM until 1:00PM.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Kurian, Liam Hughes and Mike Venegas.

Mathew V. "Mutti" Lindfors

ISHPEMING - Mathew V. "Mutti" Lindfors, age 92, formerly of 828 Wabash St. Ishpeming passed away on Monday February 5, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had been a resident for the past 3 1/2 years.

Mathew was born May 11, 1908 in Palmer and was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a carpenter, being self-employed and for several area contractors through the years & was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America Local

#1510 of which he was one of the oldest members. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Mathew enjoyed Trapping, Hunting & Fishing and through these taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors.

He was a special father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family which include 2 daughters - Kathleen Fitzpatrick of Marquette and Judith (James) Alderton of Negaunee; 7 grandchildren - Vicky (Lee) Washburn, Reed Alderton, Randy Alderton, Debbie (Louis) Willey, Steven Bengston, Scott Bengston and Susan (Hugo) Bastidas; along with 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1997, a sister Jennie Kallio, 3 brothers - John, Frank & Andrew Lindfors and a special uncle Nestor Lindfors.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday February 8, 2001 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki & Rev. C. Bruce Ulstad to officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from

10:00 AM until the time of services on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
