Alex O. Tuttila
ISHPEMING -- Alex O. Tuttila, age 92 formerly of Rt. 1 Box 564 (Stoneville Rd.) passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at the Mather Nursing Center where he has resided for the past 6 years.
Alex was born August 18, 1909 in Ishpeming to the late John A. and Helga M. (Pesola) Tuttila. He worked for the Jones and Lauglin Mining Co. for over 35 years as an underground miner at the Mather A. Mine, the Greenwood Mine, the Morris Mine and the Tracy Mine retiring in 1972 as a mechanic. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and had served as a member of the National Mine School Board. Alex enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son Ralph Tuttila of St. Paul, MN; 2 daughters - Kathleen (Edward) Nielson of Minneapolis, MN and Carolyn (Alan) Tasson of New Castle, IN; 7 grandchildren - David Martti, Dorothea Lee, Allan Tuttila, Ann Tuttila, Loren Tasson, Alana Searl and Kristen Butler; 10 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 1993; a brother, four sisters and a granddaughter Dianne Martti.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 2, 2002 at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bethel Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be grandsons - David Martti, Allan Tuttila and Loren Tasson and sons-in-law Steve Searl, Brad Butler and Greg Lee. Honorary pallbearer will be Reno Rytilahti.
The Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Anton Klein
MARQUETTE -- Anton J. "Honest Tony" Klein age 81, of 604 N. 4th Street died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in the Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had been a resident since June 21, 2001. He was born on March 17, 1920 in Mandan, ND to George and Anna (Emmel) Klein. He has lived in the Marquette area since 1945. Tony was a WW II Army veteran. He owned and operated Northland Motors auto dealership for many years. He had also been employed as a bus driver for Marquette Public Schools.
He was a member of Marquette Elks Lodge # 405, American Legion Post 44, the V.F.W. and United Travelers. Tony enjoyed sports, playing softball, hunting, playing cribbage, being with family and friends and going to the farm at Herman.
He is survived by a daughter Audrey Yeater of Marquette. Two sons Bennett (Delynn) and Gary (Anne) Klein of Marquette. His special friend Sadie Hakkinen of Marquette . A sister Rose Botten of Seattle, WA. His former wife Phyllis Klein. Seven grandchildren Mason (Shannon) Klein of Grand Rapids, Lauren Klein of Marquette, Laura Klein of Marquette, Jennifer Klein of Phoenix, AZ., William Morris of Marquette, Danny (Connie)
Morris and Debra Morris all of Parkersburg, W.V. Seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph, George and John, sisters Pauline, Margaret, Betty, Celia, Felicia and his very special companion "Whiskey."
Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home from 5 until 8:00 P.M. Friday.
There will be an American Legion service at 7 PM and a Elks memorial service at 7:30.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 P.M. Saturday February 2, 2002 in the funeral home with Reverend Shaun Erno offtciating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the American Legion Post at 700 W. Bluff St. for a luncheon following the service.

Father Thomas Parnell "Par" Dunleavy
ESCANABA -- Father Thomas Parnell "Par" Dunleavy, 93, of Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, MI, formerly of Iron Mountain, died in the Lord on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI. He was born on May 9, 1908 in Marquette, MI, son of the late Thomas & Elizabeth (Dwyer) Dunleavy. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Marquette on May26, 1934 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette by Bishop Paul Nussbaum.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Callaway. He was recalled to serve as Naval Chaplain during the Korean War.
Fr. Dunleavy's priestly assignments include: Associate Pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Escanaba; Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Engadine and its Missions; Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Franklin Mine; St. Mary's Church in Gaastra, and St. Cecilia Church in Caspian; St. Joseph Church, Sult Ste. Marie; St. William Chrch, Menominee; and St. George Church in Bark River, as well as Chaplain of the Carmelite Monastery and the Veteran Administration Hospital in Iron Mountain. Father Dunleavy retired from active ministry on November 15, 1985. Upon retirement, he reisded in Iron Mountain until he moved to the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba in 1997.
In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Father Dunleavy served approximately ten years as a Chaplain in the United States Navy and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Father Dunleavy was a devoted and beloved priest who served the diocese with much devotion. Please include him in the General Intercessions.

Marquette, several nephews; Thomas (Carol) Dunleavy and Richard (Karen) Alholm, both of Marquette, Thomas Alholm of Dripping Springs, Georgia, Marvin J. (Ruby) Doucette, Negaunee, 1 sister, Mrs. Charles (Joyce) Larson, Ishpeming, 2 brothers, Erwin (Marge) Savala, Ishpeming, Gordon (Dorothy) Savala, Wisconsin, where she resided for the past 11 years. Born in Ishpeming on July 11, 1915 to Mary (Temo) and Valli Maki.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Kanyo (Mrs. Jospeh) 6311 Bay Gladwin Line, Bentley, MI; 4 grandchildren, Valerie (Christopher) Harris, Salem, Virginia, Karen Marta, Trudy Manninen and Ross Manninen, all of Palmer, Wisconsin assisted the family.
Emilia C. Pendleton
ISHPEMING - Emilia C. Pendleton, age 76, of 717 W. Empire St., #204A, Ishpeming, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2002 at the Marquette General Hospital.
Emilia was born September 18, 1925 in Naples, Italy to the late Ettore and Olga (Cristiani) DiMuro. She came to this country as a war bride in 1946. Emilia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother along with being a great Italian cook and loved to share this love with her friends and family. She worked as a bookkeeper at banks in Washington, WI - William A. Corcoran, M.D., age 71, of 223 Martin Drive, Port Michigan University in Marquette with degrees in biology and chemistry. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin, both in Milwaukee. He was a veteran of the Korean War, entering the Navy on September 10, 1950 and being discharged as a Corpsman 3rd class medical technician July 9, 1954.
He married Ann Graffitt from Palmer, MI on September 4, 1954 in Palmer. In 1962, they moved to Port Washington and the Knights of Columbus Ozaukee Council 2035. He lifted weights, did woodworking, enjoyed dancing and volunteer work. Spending time with his family and friends was always enjoyed, especially travelling with his wife to Ireland and Italy.

Ada S. Boyle
MARQUETTE -- Ada S. Boyle, 93, of 116 N. 5th St., Marquette, entered eternal life at noon Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had resided since April 2001.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 5 from 3:00 to 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00pm Tuesday evening in St. Michael Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Norlite Nursing Center Patient Activity Fund.
Charles D. Aho
MARQUETTE -- Charles D. Aho, age 71, of 130 Middle Island Point Road, was called to be with the Lord on February 1, 2002 in his home after a brief illness.
He was born on June 20, 1930 in Marquette to Charles and Leona (Dupras) Aho. Charles "Chuck" Aho was a life member of Marquette Elks Lodge #405, the NRA, and a 25 club member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he worked for 27 years as a driver salesman for Our Own Bakeries. Chuck enjoyed hunting, boating, and his 10 beloved grandchildren. He attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Bingham whom he married on June 11, 1955; their three sons, Charles (Debra) Aho of Kentwood, MI, Richard (Cindy) Aho of Marquette and Paul (Wendy) Aho of Gwinn; a daughter, Terri (Gustave) Laverty of Gwinn; five granddaughters and five grandsons; four sisters, Betty Balbierz, Shirley (Louis) Taccolini, Mary Lou (Julius) Tiziani, all of Marquette and Jean Lindley of Grandville, MI; a sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Sharon Aho) Farrell of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James in 1992.
Friends may call at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church from 3 until 6:30pm on Monday, February 4, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 6:30pm at the church with Reverend Timothy Bernard officiating.

Louis LaJeunesse
MARQUETTE -- Louis T. LaJeunesse, age 87, of 65 Edgewood Drive, passed away Saturday morning February 2, 2002 in Marquette General Hospital. He was born on June 23, 1914 in West Branch Township to Joseph and Albina (Sanamore) LaJeunesse. He had lived in the Marquette-West Branch area all of his life.
Prior to his retirement he had been employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. Louis was married to the former Alice Larson for 57 years. She preceded him in death in 1991.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Robert) Champion of Marquette; three grandsons, Robert J. of Livonia, David (Tina) of Cadillac and Steve (Debra) of Sterling Heights; six great grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Danielle, Brandon, Lauren and Taylor; two sisters, Cora Burch of Lake Villa, ILL and Florence (Arnold) Solstad of Ramona, CA; along with several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Leah Erickson; and two brothers, Joseph and Earl.
Louis was loved by relatives and many friends. To the end, he retained a sense of humor, charming everyone he met.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, February 4, 2002 in Messiah Lutheran Church with Reverend Timothy Bernard officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10am until the time of services. Burial will take place in Park Cemetery.

Patsy Ruth Hill
NEGAUNEE -- Patsy Ruth Hill, 69, of 184 Sunset Dr., Negaunee, died Friday afternoon at Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness in the loving company of her family.
She was born July 15, 1932 in Carlshend, Michigan. She resided in Negaunee for the past 47 years.
Patsy attended Marquette High School and later graduated from the Negaunee Community Schools. She was employed by the Chalet Restaurant for several years. For the past 30 years, "Grandma Pat" was a daycare provider in her home.
Pat served her community in the boy scouts, campfire girls, and was a charter member of the Hiawathaland Snowmobile Club and the U.P. Recreation Show. She is past president of the Negaunee Women's Club. She was a board member for the Marquette County Harvest Festival for many years and was awarded numerous sweepstakes prizes for her pasties and homemade bread. Later, she served as neighborhood chair for the American Cancer Society drive. Pat was a devoted mother and grandmother. She regularly attended her children's and grandchildren's scholastic and sporting events from kindergarten to collegiate activities. Of late, she considered herself the "Number 1" fan of the NMU men's basketball team. She was an avid clock and antique collector. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, William (Bula) Hill, Jr. of Negaunee; her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. William (Betty) Lambert of Marquette; two daughters, Betty Jean (Joseph) Bingham of Marquette and Patricia (Trish) Hayes Barnes of Port Gibson, New York and had lived in this area since 1988. She was a member of the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Sandi is survived by her husband, Bob Deveau, whom she married on December 21, 1974 in New York; two children, Kelly Deveau of Gwinn and Ed "Joe" Deveau and his fiance, Amy North of Gwinn; her mother, Gertrude St.Clair of Plattsburgh, NY; eight sisters and brothers, Steve (Lucy) St.Clair, Norm St.Clair, Ricky (Rita) St.Clair, John (Peggy) St.Clair, Wayne (Bonnie) St.Clair, Mike St.Clair, Shelly St.Clair and Cindy St.Clair, all of Plattsburgh, NY; also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur St.Clair.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 in the Gwinn Funeral Home from 5 until 7pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 7pm Tuesday with the Rev. Ronald Timock of St. Anthony Catholic Church officiating. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery.
