Frank Harris Sorensen Sr.
Age 82 of Clio died August 31, 2001 at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Frank was born February 20, 1919 in Goodrich, Michigan the son of Andrew P.and Elizabeth (Harris) Sorensen of Lupton, Michigan . He spent his youth on his parents farm in Grand Blanc, where he graduated from Grand Blanc High School. He was given the opportunity to try out for the Detroit Tigers, and played a few games in the minors. He attended Michigan State University and worked at Oldsmobile. He was a Veteran serving as a Captain with the Army Air Corp. He flew 50 missions as a pilot of a B52 Mitchell Bomber. He was in Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 and was shot down 3 times over the Mediterranean and once over Italy, each time going down with the plane during WWII. He received the Presidential Air Medal Citation. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and loved sports. Frank had a great sense of humor. Survivors include: sons: Frank Harris and wife Beth Sorensen Jr. of Flint, Tod J. and wife Laura Sorensen of Flint, Lat D. Sorensen and Gina Dupitas of Flint, Daughters: Janice M. Sorensen and son Jeff Badyna of Grand Blanc; Susan A. and husband, George B. Rasch of Fenton, Sandra J. and husband, Allan J. Gearhart of Millington, Nancy E. and husband, Daniel O'Dea of Burton, 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Jesse Sorensen of Norfolk, VA.

Frances M. Burza
Vassar, Michigan, Age 86, died Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the Midland Regional Medical Center. Frances was born December 4, 1914 in Detroit the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jospeh and Josephine Pelica. She married Jospeh Burza in 1934.Frances is survived by a son, Ronald Burza of Sanford, and a daughter, Joanne and husband Alvin Auernhammer of Saginaw, 2 grandsons, Bart and Tina Burza of Midland, and Brett and Mindy Burza of Ray Twp., MI., 3 great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Braden and Kaden Burza, sister, Stefana Miklovic of St. Johns, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jospeh, and son, Richard, 4 sisters, a brother, and a great granddaughter. Funeral service will take place 1:00 pm Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends and the funeral home from 4-7:00 pm Friday.

Elsie L. Rosselit
Frankenmuth, formerly of Vassar, age 91, died Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at the Frankenmuth Care Center. Elsie was born July 30, 1910 in Vassar the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Alvina (Gohsman) Titsworth. She married Harry E. Rosselit who preceded her in death in 1961. Elsie was a retired Home Economics school teacher who also worked at one time for the M.S.C. Extension Service as a home demonstration agent. She was also a member of the Saginaw Area Bishop Sewing Council, Thumb Area Prefessional Home Economist, National Retired Teachers Association and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. Elsie is survived by 2 children, Robert and Bertha Rosselit of Midland, and Marilyn Case of Midland, several step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren, also, 2 nieces and a nephew, Mary Weibel, Joseph and Marguerite Weibel, and Sister Catherine Weibel, and also many cousins with whom she was very close. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a stepson, John Rosselit. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00am, Saturday, September 1, 2001 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. John Ederer officiating with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar from 4-9pm Friday. On Saturday morning, Elsie will be taken to church to lie in state from 9am until the time of funeral mass and 10am. Memorial contributions may be directed towards the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church.

Helma K. Kintner
Died Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at Bay Medical Center. Helma was born August 18, 1916 in Akron the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen and Salomi (Fulmer) Broderick. Shewas married to Bruce E. Kintner. Prior to her retirement she had been employed at Gehrls Oil. Helma's hobbies included crocheting, knitting, ceramics, painting and flower garderning. Helma is survived 7 children: Kay and Robert McPherson of Atlanta, MI.; James B and Anna Kintner of Wolfesboro, NH.; Irene and Glenn Bradley of Bay City; Shirley and Ed Janos of Vassar; Gene O. and Linda Kintner of Charlottesville, IN.; Linda and Jim Valentine of Birch Run; Keith and Denise Kintner of Omer, MI.; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; 1 brother and 4 sisters: William Broderick; Miriam Goold; Fern Brown; Muriel Hayward and June Belleville. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a grandson, David Narrington. Funeral services will take place 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Fairgrove with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Lisa was a graduate of Genesee High School and the Genesee Area Skill Center as a Certified Nurse Assistant. She worked in her field in Home Health Care until her physical health deteriated to the point she could no longer work. Surviving are her parents: Kathleen and Henry Tarno of Mt. Michael Wesley Tedford
Age 44, of Vassar, died Monday, August 27, 2001 at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw. Mr. Tedford was born November 14, 1956 in Saginaw, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley and Walla (Enos) Tedford. He and Donna Peplinski were united in marriage September 11, 1976 in Vassar. Michael was employed at Delphi Automotive in Saginaw for the past 25 years and currently serving as Committee Man, and a member of Local 699. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and many of his friends. Surviving are his wife, Donna Tedford of Vassar and; 2 sons, Michael Troy Tedford of Vassar and girlfriend Lisa Trombley, Chad Wesley Tedford of Vassar and girlfriend Tricia Scharff; parents, Harley and Walla Tedford of Vassar; 2 sisters, Laurene and husband Gary Sabo of Vassar, Jean and husband Don James of Vassar; mother-in-law, Doris Peplinski; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Peplinski, Diane Peplinski, Wayne Peplinski, Gerald and wife Fran Peplinski, Doug Peplinski, Mark Peplinski, Denise and husband Tony Amend, Kevin and wife Robin Peplinski; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Robin Rene (Newcombe) Young
Age 33, of Clio died Saturday August 25, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday August 30, 2001 from Mt. Morris Church of Christ, corner of South and Brockway. Mr. Garfield Copper will officiate. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Mrs. Young will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call from 6-9:00 pm Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Thursday she will be taken to the church to lie in state from 12-noon until time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorials may be considered for her family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Robin was born October 2, 1967 in Flint the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Kenneth and Andrea (Tregilgas) Newcombe. She and Jon Young were united in marriage April 25, 1987. She was a person who was happiest helping others. She was raising two beautiful children and a husband. Robin spent most of her life helping other people, so when she finished her C.E.N.A degree she went to work at Briarwood Manor. It brought great joy to her to work with the elderly and to listen to what they had to say. Robin had many accomplishments. She form and run the Clio Youth Wrestling Club at Gardener Elementary School in Clio. Where her children attended. Robin was the best wife and companion a husband could ever hope for. Karon Kay Rowe
Age 39, of Flint, died August 22, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday August 27, 2001 at Mt. Morris Christian Faith Church. Rev. Leonard Marks officiating with burial at Flint Memorial Park. She was born May 26, 1962 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. and Alice R. (Bouck) Rowe. She worked as a press operator for a local Dry Cleaners.

Morris 5-9:00 pm Friday, 2-4:00 pm and 6-9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. He was a member of the Great Norther Racoon Club in Chesaning and the Lapeer Coon Club. Mr. Wilson was member of the Mt. Morris Chapel (United Brethren in Christ Church). He retired in 1985 from V-8 Engine Plant in Flint after 30 years of service. Surviving are wife, Mary Ann of Vassar; 2 daughters Ruthann and husband Lee Butler of Flint, Daine and husband Chris Knox of Clio; 1 son Donald Wilson of Vassar; 4 granddaughters, Leann and Terah Butler and Kristy and Katy Knox; 1 brother; Frank; 4 sisters Phyllis, Pansy, Cleone and Alica; mother-in-law, Ruby Presson; sister-in-law, Vanetta Clark; 2 brothers-in-law, Johnny and wife Judy Presson and Terry and wife Sue Presson; several nieces and nephews; many friends. Age 80, of Mt. Morris died Saturday August 18, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Lloyd was born May 8, 1921 in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. and Anna (Pickleman) Diamond. He and Elsie Groulx were united in marriage January 5, 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Fisher Body #1 retiring in 1976 with 30 years of service. His hobbies included bowling, playing cards, and gardening. Hugh C. Griffin

He was a choir director for 45 years in the Flint area. Charles Milford Keen Sr.
Age 85, of Flint died August 14, 2001 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday August 17, 2001 at 1:00pm from Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Charles was born October 11, 1915 in Perkins, Missouri the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Thomas and Minnie Belle (Jolliff) Keen. He worked for GM over 30 years retiring in 1980. Hazel and Charles spent the last eight wonderful and happy years together in Flint. He was a sportsman and enjoyed fishing. Nicholas L. "Nick" Decoster
Age 79, of Fairgrove, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at Alterra in Bay City after a lengthy illness. Nick was born February 3, 1922 in Detroit the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor and Erma DeCoster. Both of his parents have predeceased him. He married Genevieve Dinsmoore on March 16, 1945 in Gilford and he resided in Fairgrove all of his life. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid reader. Nick was a member of the Wisner United Methodist Church. Surviving him are his wife, Genevieve, 4 children, Sidney and Diane (Hitsman) DeCoster of Fairgrove, Agnes and Mike Krause of Akron, Denise and Bob Stockmeyer of Reese and Donna and Wally Hauswald of Louisville, CO., 8 grandchildren, Roger DeCoster, Michelle Rubalcaba, Dirk DeCoster, Janelle Krause, Jacob, Lucas, Chelsea and Justine Stockmeyer, 7 great-grandchildren, brother, Walter DeCoster of Indiana. One sister, Violet Dinsmoore, predeceased him. Funeral services will take place 11:00 AM Friday, August 17, 2001 from the Wisner United Methodist Church. Rev. Shelley Rae Dziesinski
Of Millington, age 24, died Monday, August 13, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Shelley was born June 9, 1977 in Alpena, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald L. and Maureen (Weber) Dziesinski. She was graduate of Millington High School Class of 1995 and enjoyed playing softball. Shelley attended the First Presbyterian Church in Vassar and had been employed by Cook's GM Superstore in sales. Surviving are, her mother and step-father, Maureen and Rayford Sowden of Vassar; sisters, Kendra Leach of Grand Rapids, Jill and Stephanie Leach still living at home; grandparents, Anna Dziesinski of Alpena, Art and Ilene Weber of Millington, Betsy Sowden of Millington, and James R. and Esther Byers of Alpena; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Steve, Karen, Tammy and Jeff Hess of Millington. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald L. Dziesinski, Grandpa Michael Dziesinski and Grandpa Morris Sowden. George R. "Bob" Eaton
Age 87 of Mt. Morris departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday August 12, 2001 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday from Home Missionary Baptist Church, 8475 N. Saginaw, just South of Frances Rd. Pastor Don Titus officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Mr. Eaton will remain at the Home Baptist Church where friends may call Tuesday 6-9:00 pm and Wednesday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4-7:00 pm. He was born September 13, 1913 in Wilkenson, Indiana the 1st of 3 sons to Mr. and Mrs. Hansel and Ruby (Jones) Eaton. He and Lela Yoder were united in marriage 64 years ago on July 14, 1937 at her home. He lived in Flint and Mt. Morris most of his adult life. Bob worked and retired from Buick Motor Division with 36 years service as a machinist. He was a member of the International die sinkers union. Mr. Eaton was an inspiration to all that were acquainted with him. His ready smile, his quick wit and his great faith endeared many to him. He was a charter member and Deacon of Home Missionary Baptist Church with 50 years of faithful service. He will be greatly missed by his wife Lela; Loving daughter and son-in-law: Deanna and Tim Young of Graycourt, SC.; Son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Diane Eaton of Clio; 7 Grandchildren; 19 Great grandchildren; 1 Great great grandchild. Brother: Bill of Mio. He was preceded in death by his 2 grandsons Brian Young and Brent Eaton, brother Hansel, and his parents.

David Keeler
Age 42 of Mt. Morris died Thursday August 9, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Service will take place 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, with cremation to follow. Samuel Clifford Robinson
Stillborn son of Kathleen and David R. Robinson II of Flint, twin brother of Sabra Kathleen born August 8, 2001. He was loved before his birth and his death is mourned by all. Age 75, of Flint, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at his home. Funeral services well be held 10:00 am Saturday from St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors by the Chateau Voiture 40et8. Ed will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call 6-9:00 pm Thursday and all day Friday. Friday evening, his veteran friends and fellow members will assemble for a veterans memorial at 7:00 pm. On Saturday morning, he will be taken to church to lie in state from 9:00 am until the time of funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Ed was born March 16, 1926 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Elizabeth (Liska) Valkoun. He and Mary Gwizdz were united in marriage April 22, 1950 at All Saints Catholic Church. Ed was a Veteran of WWII serving with the US Army in the European Theatre. He was discharged as a lieutenant. He was a life member of Davison VFW Post #4087, the American Legion Post #342 and the 40 et 8 Chateau Voiture. Ed was not only a life member but a hard worker for his veterans organizations. For years he and his wife Mary took it upon themselves to be sure veteran's graves had an American Flag on Memorial Day. Many of these flags were purchased from his own pocket. Ed's working career consisted of owning and operating Ed's Market on Covert Road in Flint, the Princess Arms Bar in Grand Blanc and the LeSabre Lounge in Mt. Morris. Surviving are his wife, Mary; 2 daughters: Terri and husband Larry Childs of Clifton Forge, VA.; Suzanne Valkoun and husband Frank Ferrigno of Kerrville, TX.; 2 granddaughters: Mary Anne and husband Scott Neal of Pennsylvania; Michel Valkoun of Flint; great-granddaughter: Anna Neil; brother: Jerry Valkoun; sister: Helen Kupres; brother-in-law: Bill and wife Hedy Ruth; 4 sisters-in-law: Anna Mitoraj, Janet Hyde, Frances Hibbard and Irene Artrip; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Terry L. Hauser
Of Clio, age 52 died August 7, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday August 11, 2001 from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Cremation to follow. Family will receive friend 6-9 pm Thursday, 9-9 pm Friday. Terry was born February 17, 1949 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Dorothy (Bumgart) Hauser. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at Buick Motor Co. Surviving are daughter: Elaine and husband Dan Couveau; 3 grandchildren; 6 step children; 18 step grandchildren; former wife: Sharon Severn -Hauser; brothers and sisters: Lenda Bird of Fla.; Glenda Nesmith of Fla; Sue Arnett of Flint; Andy Hauser of Hale; Danny Hauser of Hale; Jack Hauser of Flint.

Irene Josephine Baxter
Formerly of Mt. Morris age 91, died Friday August 3, 2001 at Tendercare of Alpena. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday from St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Robert McKeon officiating. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Baxter will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-9pm Sunday. Sunday evening the parish, family, and Altar Society will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Monday morning she will be taken to church to lie in state from 9:00 am until time of services at 10:00 am. She was born December 16, 1909 in Wilson Twp., Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Israel and Josephine (DeLoney) Compeau. She and Vern Thomas Baxter were united in marriage February 5, 1940 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. He preceded her in death. Member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society, 3rd Order Mount Carmel, Blue Army, St. Mary Charismatic group. She lived in Midland area for nearly 40 years and when she was first married she worked as a seamstress for the Mode Shoppe in Midland. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, Henry Compeau, Bernard Compeau and Oscar Compeau, 1 sister, Agatha McNall.

Milton Gene Milliken
Age 60, of West Minster, Colorado, died Thursday, August 2, 2001 at the home of his brother in Vassar. Milton was born May 5, 1941 in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. And Nita (Campbell) Milliken. He and Marga were united in marriage November 3, 1961 in Ansback, Germany. Milton served with the U. S. Army in Vietnam and retired from the Military while working at the Pentagon with the C.I.A. He was a member of the VFW in Colorado. Surviving are wife Marga; 2 sons: Norbert and wife Char Milliken and Kirk Milliken both of West Minster, Colorado; 2 daughters: Pamela and husband Duane Miller and Sherry Milliken of Wheat Ridge, Col.; 6 grandchildren; KoKo his dog; brothers and sisters: Donna and husband Al Clink of Jamestown, Tenn.; Barbara and husband Chuck Shields of Midland; Judy O'Keefe of Midland; Bert and wife Nancy Wuelfing of Midland; Rick and wife Sue Martin of Midland; Jim and wife Valerie Millikin of Appomottox, Va.; Clare and wife Beverly Milliken of Vassar; Clarence and wife Jane Millikin of Vassar; Harley Milliken of Midland; sister-in-law: Sarah Milliken of Arvada, Col.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 6, 2001 at Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar with Rev. David Kessler officiating. A Military Committal Service will be conducted at the funeral home by the Millington American Legion Post #164. Harold Allen "Ham" Metcalf
Age 81, of Fairgrove, died Thursday, August 2, 2001 at his home. Harold was born February 10, 1920 in Fairgrove Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee and Sara (Foster) Metcalf. He and Joanne Wilson-Bradley were united in marriage February 14, 1948 in Fairgrove. He was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and was the Financial Secretary for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Fairgrove Lions Club, former board member for Akron - Fairgrove Schools, Fairgrove Businessmen's Association, Fairgrove Zoning Board, and the Fairgrove Golf League. Harold was a life long farmer and enjoyed his family, Detroit Tigers and time at Peach Lake. His hobbies included gardening, golfing, Historical Society, Politics and he was an avid reader. On Monday morning Mr. Metcalf will be taken to the church to lie in state where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service. Of Mt. Morris age 80 died Thursday August 2, 2001 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday from Mt. Morris First Baptist Church Church, corner of Walter & Loisa Streets. Pastor Richard Cook officiating. Graveside commital services will be 3:00 pm Monday at Clayton Twp. Cemetery in Melita. Mrs. Shimmons will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call Saturday 6-9:00 pm and Sunday from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. Monday she will be taken to church to lie in state from 10am until time of services at 11am. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church memorial fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born February 21, 1921 in Millington the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace F. and Olive M. (Hossler) Donigan. Maxine and C. Bernard Shimmons were united in marriage October 4, 1964. He preceded her in death May 1977. She retired from Western Union where she was a manager. Mrs. Shimmons was a member of Mt. Morris First Baptist Church since November 1978. Surviving are her son: Wayne and wife Diane Shimmons of Mt. Morris; Daughter: Charlotte Torres of Livonia, NY.; Stepson: Tim and wife Carol Shimmons of Ypsilanti; Stepdaughter-in-law: Janice Shimmons of Flushing; 21 grandchildren; Numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Lloyd Donigan of Flint; Burton and wife Margaret Donigan of Florida; Ralph and wife Emiko Donigan of Florida; Sister-in-law: Patricia Donigan of Vassar; Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 brothers Roland Donigan, Rev. Archie Donigan, and Russell Donigan; Stepsons Jerry Shimmons and William Shimmons; and her stepdaughter Virginia Clark.

Ernestine E. Watts
Of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Flint, Age 68, died Wednesday August 1, 2001. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Friday August 10, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home, 1194 E. Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris. Family will receive friends 10:00 am until 3:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. If desired memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Watts was born in Flint, Michigan were she resided most of her life. She was an avid roller skater, winning many championships. She also enjoyed family, holidays and getting her own way. Surviving are son: Dennis and wife Melinda Watts; Daughters: Debra Howell; Lynda and husband Edward Barrera; Mother: Emma Williamson; Mother-in-law: Hilda Knott; Son-in-law: Michael Polovina: Grandchildren: Traci and husband Kirk Boshaw; Robbie Polovina; Lesa Roach; Laura and Timothy Watts; Great grandchildren: Jaycob McCombs; Curtis Polovina; Landon Benner; Jordyn Boshaw and one grandson on the way Lawson Boshaw; Brother: Clifford and special friend to Ernestine was Pat Davis; Sister: Mary and husband Doug Collins; Nieces and nephews; Special friend, Darlene Carlson.
