John S. "Jack" Newcomb, age 75, of Jonesville, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2004, at his home. He was born May 9, 1928 in Chicago, his parents were Peter & Dorothy Lugiai.
Jack was the former owner of Grill's Hardware in Jonesville, a former employee of Jonesville Lumber and retired in 1994 from Hillsdale Tool. He was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church, a member and treasurer of the Jonesville Happy Seniors, a mentor at the school and did an abundance of volunteer work.
He was married January 17, 1947 to Nila Miller and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Trish (Harry) Krummrey of Kalkaska, Alicia (Brad) Yeagley of Plainwell, Susan Lanius of Jonesville and Amy (Michael) Stoll of Hillsdale; a son, Scott (Deb) Newcomb of Adrian; 13 grandchildren, Kelli Schulz, Jodi Nye, Anissa, Andy and Erin Lanius, Adam and Emily Yeagley, Philip, Lauren and Levi Stoll, Anna, Rane and Kegan Newcomb; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers also survive.
Cremation has taken place, memorial services for Jack Newcomb will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., at the Jonesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Colleen A. Osburn, age 51, of Washington St., Hudson, Michigan passed away Friday, January 30, 2004, at her home. She Was born February 4, 1952 in Hudson to Leo "Curly" and Dorothy (Durling) Meredith. She married Dana Osburn on September 25, 1970 in Hudson and he survives.
Colleen was a life long Hudson area resident. She was employed at Merillat Industry's corporate office in Adrian, previously owned and operated Interior Views Inc. in Onsted, was an auditor, security and compliance officer at Thompson Savings Bank in Hudson and served as Branch Manager for American 1 Federal Credit Union in Hillsdale. She graduated from Hudson Area High School Class of 1970, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an associate member of the Hudson Child Study Club and past chairman of the Hudson Mothers March of Dimes.
Surviving Colleen besides her husband, Dana Osburn of Hudson, are three sons, Andrew (Lisa) Osburn of Pleasant Lake, Michigan, Jamie Osburn of Grass Lake and PFC Justin Osburn of Camp LeJune, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Kacy, Tyler, Noah, and Aaron; her mother, Dorothy Meredith of Hudson; two sisters, Nadine (Ron) Klebba of Harbor Beach, Michigan and Elaine (Mike) Dew of Saline, Michigan; four brothers, Tom (Judy) Meredith of Jackson, Charlie (Chris) Meredith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dennis and Doug Meredith both of Hudson; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services for Colleen A. Meredith will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. Richard Eberle as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.

Leslie F. "Sam" Seeley, age 88, of Waldron, passed away Friday, January 30, 2004, at Hillsdale Medical Care Facility. He was born July 2, 1915 in Waldron to Samuel and Edith (Denning) Seeley. He married Mabel I. Robison on May 15, 1940 in Bryan, Ohio and she preceded him in death on August 9, 1997.
Sam worked for Allied Products in Hillsdale for 23 years, and he retired from Waldron Industries in 1978. He was a lifelong Waldron area resident and farmer. He was a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau, Knights of Pythians, and a graduate of Waldron High School in 1933. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening.
Surviving Sam are his twin daughters, Charlene Gambler of Bryan, Ohio and Arlene (Walter) Boyer of Montpelier, Ohio; one son, Larry Seeley of Angola, IN; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mabel; four brothers, Adam, Royal, Burton and LeRoy Seeley, and one sister Nellie Lambright.
Funeral services for Leslie "Sam" Seeley will be Tuesday, January 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Waldron. Interment will follow in Waldron Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, February 2, 2004 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Franklin E. Wheeler, age 65, of West Unity, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004, at the Community Hospitals of Williams County, Montpelier, Ohio. Franklin was born December 24, 1938 to Franky & Opal Jay Wheeler.
Franklin served in the Korean Conflict and received the Marksman Medal.
Surviving are daughters, Tami (Danie) Payne of West Unity, Ohio, Barb (Larry) Horst of Archbold, Ohio, Jodi Wheeler of Morenci, Michigan, Amy Mock and Lori (Raymond) Yoder, both of Archbold; a son, Frank B. Wheeler of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, William "Bill" (Debbie) Wheeler of Montpelier, Ohio; a sister, Mary (John) Grime of Archbold; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Elva Marie Wriker, age 90, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2004, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Williams County, Ohio on November 8, 1913 to Glasion & Edna (Robison) Goshorn.
Marie graduated from Montpelier High School in Montpelier, Ohio in 1932 as a honor student.
On August 26, 1936 she married Wilfred "Duke" Wriker who preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Marie is survived by two sons, Wendell (Ethel) Wriker of Hillsdale and Weldon "Shorty" (Pat) Wriker of Jonesville; one sister, Beatrice Helie of Chula Vista CA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
At Marie's request, her body has been donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. There will be a memorial service on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 6:30 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. Randy Bennett officiating.

Duane L. Scheick, age 77, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004, in Jackson, Michigan. He was born in Jefferson Township, Michigan on April 6, 1926 to LaVere and Dena (Clark) Scheick.
Mr. Scheick retired in the early 1990's from Polly's Food Store. He also served in the Army Air Force during W.W.II, was a member of the Hillsdale Conservation Club, a former member of the Hillsdale American Legion and Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are five daughters, Holly Scheick of Tempe, Arizona, Cherie Scheick of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Suzanne Vusovich of Tempe, Arizona, Laurie Scheick of Jackson and Kelli (Edward) Gignac of Waterford, Michigan; a son Patrick (Danita) Scheick of Clayton, Michigan; sister Jean Brouse of Hillsdale; brother, Robert (Penny) Scheick of Brooklyn, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside services for Duane L. Scheick will be held at a later date at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale.

John E. Burress, age 58, of S. Main St., Waldron, Michigan passed away Monday, January 12, 2004 at Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born June 3, 1945 in Peekskill, New York to John Thomas and Alice (Whalen) Burress. He married Margy Eidenier on June 4, 1969 in Mason, Michigan and she survives.
John lived in the Waldron area most of his life He was previously the Chief of Police in Waldron, a Hillsdale County Sheriff's Deputy and was currently
serving on Waldron Village Council. He enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, fishing and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.
Surviving John besides his wife, Margy, of Waldron are three children, Arlo Burress, Leo (Rachelle) Burress and Keri Burress all of Waldron; his mother, Alice Burress of Alabama; three grandchildren, Margaret, George and John; one sister, Alice Danielli of Alabama; and one brother, Patrick Burress of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Thomas Burress.
Funeral services for John Burress will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at the Eagle Funeral Home in Waldron with Rev. Rick Puckett officiating. Interment will follow at Waldron Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Clara M. Brewer, age 88, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2004 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Cambria Township, Michigan on September 12, 1915 to George & Harriet (Farmer) Hinkle.
In 1936 she married Evan Headley and he preceded her in death in 1956. Her second marriage was on June 2, 1962 to Carl Brewer and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Boise Headley, and a brother, Ted Hinkle.
Clara is survived by two daughters, Marcella (John) Brell of Tucson, Az, and Cara Lee (Larry) Kreps of Hillsdale; two sons, Carlisle Headley of Bradenton, FL, and Duane Headley of Fremont, Ind; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service for Clara will be held Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Interment will follow at a later date at the California Corners Cemetery in Branch County.

Ethel Louise Bernstein, age 96 of Jonesville, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Drews Place of Hillsdale. She was born September 1, 1907 in North Adams to Charles & Belle (Locklin) Bohn. On December 24, 1929 she married Milton Hergert and he preceded her in 1975. She then married Forrest Bernstein and he also preceded her in death.
Ethel was a graduate of North Adams High School and a graduate of Ypsilanti Normal, with a B.A. in teaching. She then taught at Williams Elementary in Jonesville until retirement in 1964. She was a member of the Jonesville First Presbyterian Church, charter member of the Moscow Plains Study Group and was a member of the Social Thursday Club.
Ethel is survived by a daughter, Naomi (George) Gochanour of Litchfield and a son, Nolan (Shirley) Hergert of Hillsdale. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Along with both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
The funeral for Ethel Bernstein will be held, Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville with Rev. Gary Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in the Moscow Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. D. Louise Delcamp, age 89, of Charlotte Stephenson Manor in Adrian passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian.
She was born February 11, 1914, in Pittsford Twp., Michigan to Claude C. and Daisy (Haggerty) Pinkham. She married Rex Delcamp on October 11, 1944 in Gaylord, Michigan and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1971.
Louise lived most of her life in the Pittsford and Hillsdale area while helping her husband Rex farm. She worked in the office at Hardie Manufacturing Co., in Hudson and Faraday in Tecumseh and graduated from Pittsford High School.
Surviving Louise are one step-daughter, Edris (Dow) Murray of Hillsdale; two step-sons, Edwin Delcamp of Maumee, Ohio and Stewart (Judy) Delcamp of Florida; three sisters, Marjorie Pinkam of St. Petersburg, Florida, Betty Cunningham and Roberta Ellis both of Hudson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for D. Louise Delcamp will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Rev. Craig Pillow officiating.

Auby P. Haley, age 51, of Reading, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at his home. He was born September 17, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia to Auby & Syble (Stanley) Haley.
Auby received his teaching certificate from Michigan State University and taught school in the Spring, Texas from 1981 until 2002.
Surviving is a brother, Lynn (Pam) Shearman of Hillsdale; a step brother, Gary (Carol) Shearman of Hillsdale; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Ray Shearman, a brother, Tony Haley and a sister, Joella Champion.
Cremation has taken place, there will be a memorial service at a later date at Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Donavan J. Bumpus, age 93, of Osseo, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at his home. He was born January 31, 1910 in Bryan, Ohio to J.V. & Gertrude (Eitel) Bumpus.
Donavan retired from Tecumseh Products in 1975 after 29 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, a 36 year member of the American Legion Post # 0007 of Clearwater, Florida, the Wall Drug Club of South Dakota, the Crazy Horse Grass Roots Club of Black Hills, South Dakota.
He was married May 14, 1932 to Ruth Margarite Strine and she preceded in death Nov. 23, 2003. Surviving are two daughters, Donna (Willis) Howard of Osseo and Jean Stover of Hudson; granddaughter, Darlene (Carl) Blankenship of Hillsdale; special caregivers, grandson, Shawn Porter; granddaughter, Darlene Blankenship and his sister, Alberta Brainerd. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; sisters LaMoille Salisbury of Coldwater, Alberta Brainerd of Hillsdale; brother, Clarence C. Bumpus of Epoufette, MI.
Along with his wife Ruth, Donovan was preceded by 2 grandchildren Renee J. Mohr and Christopher R. Balnkenship; 2 brothers Forrest A. Bumpus and Homer H. Bumpus; a half sister Mae V. Donner and half brother Roy D. Rearick.
There will be a memorial service held 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 3, 2004
At the Osseo United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Lee and Pastor Bobby Jones officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Churches Corners Cemetery. Donald B. Stewart age 90, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday December 28, 2003 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 14, 1913 to Burt & Inis (Haggerty) Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was a mechanical engineer and retired from the Foster Wheeler Corporation in New Jersey. He graduated from Baldwin High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1932, and also graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering in 1936. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the Hillsdale Kiwanis Club, Hillsdale Golf & Country club, and the Hillsdale College Presidents Club.
Mr. Stewart is survived by cousins, Betty Cunningham of Hudson, Louise Delcamp of Adrian, Roberta Ellis of Hudson, and Marjorie Pinkham of St. Petersburg, Fl.
Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, R. Joy Stewart in 1993.
There will be a visitation Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Interment will take place Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
