THE BLUE AND GOLD, '17

May we hope that eventually a league to enforce peace will somehow or other be created after this war ends, and if it comes, the present World War will not have ben wholly in vain.
HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF '17.
Elwood Vivian.
It is eight-forty five o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, September the second. nineteen hundred thirteen, and the school bell is ringing in an epoch in the lives of fifty seven freshmen in the. Lake Linden High School. The sun is shining brightly and the students' spirits are high. for are they not freshmen? Yes, indeed they are! This fact is easily made known by the queer antics some of them are performing. Most of them are running from one group to another endeavoring to find out what is expected of them in this, the first clays' session.
They go into the building in a body and confusion reigns supreme in their numbers. However under the able supervision of Miss Paton, who is on hall duty order is soon restored. They then make out their classification and are dismissed.
The second day we set a record in that we oragnize our class and elect our officers. For some time it seems quite impassible to select a president, but Harold Kettenbeil is finally prevailed upon to accept this office of honor. Despite the fact that it is a freshman meeting. the session is very orderly.
Well. after many trials and tribulations. the majority of us pull through our freshman year and start our Sophomore career, a sadder but a wiser lot. We have now been initiated into the ways of High School life and are better acquainted with each other. As a result things go along much more harmoniously. At our first business meeting. Stanley Hocking is chosen to head the class thru-out the year. We also decide to follow the annual custom of giving the incoming freshmen an outing to the incline. Mr. Howard is the one person deserving of credit in making this trip a success. He undoubtedly commands the presence of a large number of freshman girls by his announcement that he will escort them to their homes after the affair is over, as it would be too dark for them to go alone.
