THE BLUE AND GOLD, '17. 6i
L. L. H. S.. EAT 'EM UP! 1916-17.
Under this title, we arc to deal with three primary subjects, namely—(i) Football. (2) Basketball, (3) Baseball.
The first takes place in the fall and is the most important of the whole calendar.
The second takes place in winter but it has been of practically little importance for the last two years.
The third comes to pass in spring and summer and is of but secondary importance as a high school sport.
Now let us drop into vernacular and take each subject up in detail
When we see the spirit of
Our boys who play the game,
Win or lose, we'll shout and still be Loyal just the same.

REVIEW OF SEASON OF 1916.
We can say that our football team was a success right from the start. No one will deny that, so let us bring up the team in its Darts after a brief review of the team as a whole.
The season started out with a grand rush. Our team went to Calumet and romped away with a nice little victory. However, they came back after us strong and played a tie game. In all, four games were played and. we came out ahead.
Our games with Hancock's first team resulted more or less disastrously for us. We were defeated twice and we are very sorry to say that certain features marred the first game with them.
After the season was over a letter of congratulations was sent to the Calumet team by the Lake Linden team praising them on the conduct and good sportsmanship of the Calumet second teams during all the contests that we had played with them. The players will always remember with pleasure the games that they played with Calumet and especially the good feeling existing between the two teams. May future teams always be as fortunate as we have been in being able to play such good, clean athletes as Calumet produces.
Individually our team was a wonder. Under the leadership of Russell Lord it could not help but win. Playing in good form all the time, he inspired the whole team with his spirit and helped to pile up the scores against our opponents. "Timmy" will always be remembered by future teams.
And Howdy ! Wasn't he the ripsnortin' center ! No one will deny that he filled the shoes of preceding centers with great ability and tho' it was his first year on the team he played like a veteran.
Our guards! They were good. We'll all say so. Stew, was strong on defense and a holy terror on offense. "Donkey" will always remember "Get down on the line" and also doing it.
Our tackles were the best matched that the High School ever had. Vivian was strong both offensively and defensively, and played a heady game. Bill
