Camella Bailey, 85, of Laurium died on Nov. 25, 1998. The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home of Calumet is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilbert (Ippers) R. Koopika, 83, of Kearsarge died on Nov. 24, 1998. He is survived by a son, Bruce of Green Bay and a daughter, Doris Sharkey of Jonesborough, TN. Services on Nov. 27th, 11 AM, in the Peterson Funeral Home of Calumet.

Lauri E. Waisanen, 85, of Hancock, formerly a resident of Fulton Location near Mohawk, passed away on Nov. 24, 1998. He is survived by a daughter, Marlene Brown of Fulton Location and a son, Alan of Ohio. Memorial service on Nov. 28th at 11 AM, O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock.

Josephine (Brusseau) Ross, 90, of Hancock passed away on Nov. 24.1998. Survivors include one son, Joseph of Hancock, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services on Friday at the Church of the Resurrection, 10 AM, Nov. 27th.

James Gorjup, 71, of Calumet passed away on November 23, 1998. He is survived by a brother Albert of Tapiola and sister Margaret Scufca of Ishpeming.

Elsie E. (Ostrand) Fretter, 83, of Dollar Bay, died on November 24, 1998. Elsie lived in Tamarack City and Dollar Bay until 1991 when she moved to Illinois. She retired from the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in 1980. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Stokes of Park Forest, IL, and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be held at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock on Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at 11:00 AM.

Susan (Jose) Pruner, 91, of Houghton, passed away on November 20, 1998. Susan was a former teacher at Jeffers Elementary School in Painesdale and later became its principal. In 1939 she taught at houghton Elementary School until her retirement in 1967. She is survived by a daughter, Marcia of Houghton; a son, James of Beavercreek, OH; and two grandchildren.

Sadie E. (Risku) Keranen, 82, of Fulton Location, Mohawk, passed away on Nov. 21, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Lauri; three sons, Lauri of Ossineke, Henry of Edwardsburg, MI, and Eugene of Osceola, Indiana; a daughter, Patricia Takacs of Peekskill, NY; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw.

Paul A. Mrosz, 80, of Florida Location, passed away on Nov. 21, 1998. Paul had served overseas with the US Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Eunice and his son, Garnet of Commerce Township, MI. At the request of Paul there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Evelyn M. (Dudley) Jacobs, 77, a lifelong resident of Lake Linden, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Evelyn had been employed by the former Schuette Market in Lake Linden. Surviving are her husband, John; one son, Fred of Lake Linden; two daughters, Sharon Anderson of Plymouth, WI and Donna Codere of Lake Linden. Funeral services Tuesday, 1 PM, at the Pearce Funeral Home with burial in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.

Raymond J. Kiminki, 56, formerly of Nisula, passed away on Nov. 19, 1998, at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit.

Laura M. Larche, 95, of Dollar Bay died on Nov. 19, 1998.

Paul D. Kuru, 54, of Lake Linden died on Nov. 17, 1998, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Rose (Christensen) Provost, 91, of Hubbell died on November 18, 1998. As requested by Rose there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Surviving are one son, William of Big Traverse; two daughters, Laurie Anderson of Bend, Oregon and Cresence Hahn of Durant, MI; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

William Anderson, 68, of L'Anse, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Pat; three sons, William of Ishpeming, Michael of Newberry, and Jeff of Mansfield, TX; two daughters, Jo Ellen Lahti of Boyne City, and Janelle Beeler of L'Anse and ten grandchildren. Funeral Services Friday, Nov. 20th, 11:00 Am at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse.

Oliver H. Huttula, 82, of Watton, passed away at his home on Monday, November 16, 1998. Oliver is survived by a brother, William of Watton and cousins in Finland and Minnesota.

Mrs. Gene (Larson) Earhart, 87, of Calumet died on November 11, 1998, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Johnie Phillips in Calumet. She was married to Ray Earhart; he preceded her in death in 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Carol of Calumet and Sharon Sillivan of Malmo, Neb.

Arvo Oliver Laakso, 82, of Nestoria, died on November 14, 1998, at the Zablocki V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. Arvo is survived by three children, James Lang of Chassell, Kathryn Laakso, Stephen Laakso both of Nestoria, four grandchildren and on great-grandchild. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery.

Carrie L. Weddle, 91, of Mohawk, passed away on November 15, 1998.

Paul Rautio, 57, a resident of Copper City passed away on November 15, 1998. Paul is survived by his wife, Eleanor; a son, Alan of Copper City; a daughter, Prudence Mott of Iron River, WI; and three grandsons. Services on Nov. 19, 1998, 11:00 AM in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home of Calumet.

John F. Irwin, 77, of Baraga died on November 14, 1998. Funeral services at 11:00 AM, Nov. 19th at the United Methodist Church in L'Anse.

James A. McNickle, 77, of Lake Linden died on November 15, 1998, at the Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, MI. Mr. McNickle is survived by two daughters, Susan Compton of Rochester Hills, MI and Michele McNickle (Lynch, of Redmond, WA; one son, Patrick of Fort Mitchell, Ky and one granddaughter. Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM on Nov. 20th, at St. Cecilia Church in Hubbell.

Wilfred "Babe" Gagnon, 78, of Lake Linden died on November 14, 1998. Surviving are his wife, Lucille; four sons, Roger Sodini of Crystal Falls, Gary and Glenn Gagnon of Marquette and Danny Gagnon of Plover, WI; nine grandchildren four great-grandchildren.

John Margherio, of Trimountain died on November 14, 1998. John was a veteran of World War II having served overseas in the US Army. He is survived by a sister, Minnie Link of Hancock. Burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Esther H. (Tormala) Lepisto,87, of Bootjack passed away on November 14, 1998. Esther is survived by her husband Arthur; two sons, George and Russell both of Bootjack; three daughters, Jean Royal of Bloomington, IN; Carol Giachino of Bootjack, and Sara Nunez of Marshfield, WI; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Alma A. (Jarvela) Mannisto, 99, a former resident of South Range, Ironwood, and Bessemer died on November 14, 1998. Alma was born in Tampere, Finland on April 19, 1899. Surviving is a son, William of South Range; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.

Lenore Solmonson, 82, of Laurium died on November 13, 1998. Lenore is survived by a brother, Norman of Laurium and several cousins.

Virginia H. (Torkola) Richards, 81, of Laurium, passed away on November 11, 1998. Virginia had formerly worked at Michigan Tech ROTC and then then US Air Force base in Keweenaw County. She is survived by two sons, Frank of Westport, CT, and Bruce of Bremerton, WA.

Eldon M. Usitalo, 79, of Houghton Canal Road died on November 11, 1998. Eldon was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II in the Medical Corps. He is survived by a brother Carl of Houghton and two sisters, Irene and Ellen of Oskar.

Arnold J. Kempainen, 77, formerly of Atlantic Mine, died on Nov. 4, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gertrude, daughters, Beverly Dudek, Gail Huff of Duluth and a son Ronald Hanson also of Duluth.

Anna M. (Raisanen) Liimatta, 87, of Ahmeek, died on Nov. 10, 1998, after a brief illness. Anna is survived by two daughters, Nancy Thomas of Royal Oak and Mary Jane Johnson of Centennial Heights.

Virginia M. Rintala, 66, of hancock died on Nov. 10, 1998. Virginia worked at Suomi College and the Book Concern in Hancock. She is survived by a son, Kent of Lafayette, IN.

Stella (LaFleur) Hosang, 86, formerly of Lake Linden, died on Nov. 6, 1998. Stella died in Glendale AZ, she will be buried in the Mt. Calvary Cemetary in Lake Linden. Surviving is a daughter Marilyn (Bill) Marcotte of Phoenix.

Mabel S. (Stucky) Unsworth, 97, of Calumet, passed away on Nov. 10th, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming. She moved to Calumet in 1924 and helped establish the X-Ray and Lab Department of the Memorial Hospital in Laurium. Mabel is survived by nieces Jackie Taube and Jill McCaigue, both of Fort Wayne.

Gary L. Harju, 48, of Copper City, died on Monday, November 9th. Gary is survived by six brothers; Norman and Alan of Calumet, Donald of Boston Location, Calvin and Steve and James of Copper City; two sisters, Myrna Karpinen of Highway Location and Carolyn Palosaari of Centennial Location.

Arne E. Sten, 85, of Houghton, died on Nov. 10, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Lehto of Redridge and Elida McKee of Oscoda.

Lorraine (LaFreniere) Gaulka, 87, of Lake Linden, died on November 7, 1998. Lorraine had worked at the former Cloverland Hotel in Houghton and had worked in Copper Harbour as a waitress. She is survived by a brother Lewellyn of Chicago.

Larry Ellenich, 79, of Calumet died on November 8, 1998. Larry was active in community affairs being a Calumet Village Council member, Fire Department member, and a member of VFW Post #3900 and Past Commander. He is survived by two sons, Chuck (Sandy) and Joey (Jackie) of Calumet; a daughter Patty Glass of Marquette and eight grandchildren.

Franklin J. Hazen, 58, of Watersmeet, died on Nov. 7, 1998. Franklin leaves his wife Helen, and five sons; John Lee of Baraga, Raymond Smith Jr. of Watersmeet, Henery Smith of Iron River, Evan Smith of Watersmeet, and Johathon McGeshick of Watersmeet; two daughters, Joan Smith McCalum of Scandia and June Simth of Watersmeet.

William H. Donovan, 75, well-known L'Anse pharmacist, died on Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. In 1973 the family moved to L'Anse where he opened Village Drugs and he retired in 1985. He is sruvived by his wife, Isabelle (Sis); a son, Timothy of Aspen, CO and a daughter, Kathleen of Iron Mountain.

Mary H. (Usitalo) Comfort, 83, of Baraga died on Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Mary was a resident of Baraga County for 50 years. She had been employee as a secretary at the Department of Natural Resources. Surviving her are her husband, Everal; two sons, Glenn of Houghton and Neal of Janesville, WI; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

John R. Rock, 69, of Baraga, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. He attended Baraga High School until going in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948. His survivors include three daughters, Diane Rock of California, Karen (Greg) Birch of Negaunee, and Debra (Dale)mcBride of Jackson; three sons, Randal and Larry of Baraga and Brian of Jackson.

Paul Ross Olson, 55, of Baraga, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 8, 1998. Funeral Services are being handled by the Serard Funeral Home in Baraga. Paul is survived by his mother Phillis, a brother Peter, two sisters Jill (Jack)Lundgren, and Mary (Robert) DesRochers, all of Baraga. Paul was a very giving person and he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Albert Augustine, 82, of Calumet, passed away on November 3, 1998, at the Zablocki, VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI., where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Albert is survived by a sister, Tracy Strucel of Calumet; three brothers, John of Calumet, Joseph of Northville, and Frank of Grand Marais. A private funeral service will be held at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home of Calumet. Interment in the Lake View Cemetery.

Walter John Smith, 64, of Ontonagon passed away November 2, 1998. Walter is survived by his wife Jane, two sons, Aaron of East Lansing and Sgt. First Class Craig of Ledyard, CT; a daughter Michelle Hawkins of Ontonagon and four grandchildren.

Amelia M. (Mihelcich) Johnson, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 6, 1998, 11:00 AM at the St. Paul the Apostle Church. Amelia is survived by two sons, Robert of Milwaukee and James of Laurium; a daughter, Mary Jane Jordan of Red Wing, MN.

Carl A. Redlich, 73, of Elo, died following a long illness. Carl married the former Hannah Jukuri on March 28, 1964 in Pelkie, MI. Surviving are his wife, Hannah, five sons, Donald Bohto of Sherman, TX, Leslie Bohto of Marshfield, Mass, August Bohto of Baltic, Edward Bohto of Askel, and Carl Redlich of Rindge, NH; four daughters, Anita Bohto of Houghton, Leona Bohto fo Baraga, Johannah Paakols of Otter Lake, and Karen Manninen of Tapiola. Services October 6, 1998, 1 PM, at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church. Burial in the Askel Cemetery.

Mary Ann (LaBelle) Paoki, 65, of White Pine, died on October 30, 1998. Mary Ann was a nurse at the White Pine LaCroix Hospital until it closed, her career spanned over 30 years. She is survived by her husband, Lido, and seven children; Cheryl (Dean)Schiff, Tina (Jim)Falkowski, Julie(Allan)Hess, Stephen Paoli, David (Kathy) Paoli, Mary (Bill)Warner and George (Renee)Paoli. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MaryAnn Paoli Memorioa Scholarship Fund for the White Pine School District.

Martha (Laity) Stephens, 92, of Lake Linden, passed October 29, 1998. Martha is survived by fours sisters; Hazel Eisenhart of York, PA, Shirley Birch of Pinconning, MI, Helen Mittlesdorf of Sylvania, OH, and Lillian Steiger of Hancock. Interment in the Lake View Cemetery of Calumet.

Marjorie (Peterson) Adams, 81, of Calumet, passed away Thursday, October 29, 1998. Surviving are one daughter, Marjorie (Sandy)Adams of Bronx, NY, four sisters, and one brother. Funeral services at 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.

Emil A. Johnson, 89, of Baraga Township, passed away on October 29, 1998. Emil was married to the former Wilma Tulikangas who died in 1993. Surviving are a son, Steven (Sharon) of Baraga; two daughters, Ruth Waldon of Tucson, AZ and Elsa Beth Pumela of Ironwood. Funeral Services on Sunday, November 1, 1998, 2:30 PM,at the Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Burial in the Pelkie Cemetery.

Lorraine S. (Mayra) Burich, 62, of Jasberg Street, Hancock, passed away on October 30, 1998. Surviving are her husband George, two brothers; Marvin Mayra of Hancock, Robert Mayra of Escanaba, and numerous nephews and cousins. Funeral Services Monday, November 2, 1998, 11:00 AM at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton. Burial in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Theodore A. Miller, 66, formerly of Florida Street, Laurium, died on October 28, 1998. Surviving Ted are one daughter, Judi Paveglio of Ishpeming; two sons, Christopher and Jeffrey Miller of Door County, Wi; three sisters, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

Alan A. Hiltunen, 44, of Laurium, died on October 29, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident near Crystal Falls. He is survived by two sons, Kirk of Macomb, and Greg of Chesterfield Township. a grandson, Andrew, five brothers and five sisters.

Lee E. Pearce, 39, of hubbell, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center in Laurium on Tuesday, October 27, 1998, following an apparent heart attack at home. Lee moved to Lake Orion with his parents in 1977 and graduated from the Cedarville High School.

Margaret (Matheson) Mukavetz, 83, of Calumet passed away on Sunday, October 25, 1998. She is survived by sons, John of Chandler, AZ and Dan of Laurium, daughter Margaret Honaker of Warrenton, VA, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Viola (Salonen) Ruutila, 88, of Ontonagon, died on Sunday, October 25, 1998. Mrs. Ruutila was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, August,and a daughter, Virginia. She is survived by two sons; Bruce and Norman of Ontonagon and two grandchildren.

Helen Sylvia (Keranen) Johnson, 72, of Atlantic Mine, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 1998. Surviving are her husband, Elmer; a daughter, Karen Renshaw of Trumann, AZ, three grandsons and two great granddaughters.

Edwin Olsen, 75, of Houghton, passed away October 26, 1998. Surviving Ed are his wife Sylvia, three sons, Fred Jones of Chassell, Tom Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, Robert Jones of Detroit; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

William P. Geist, 62, of White Pine, passed away on October 25, 1998. Bill is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Donald of Whitehall, and Michael of Oconto, WI; two daughters, Pamela Siebert of Littleton, CO, and Karen Bosio of Holland, WI.

Ruth (Downing) Hauswirth, 77, of Quincy Street in Hancock, died on October 22, 1998. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Houle of Hancock, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Lyle Kathryn Batten, 85, a former Kearsarge resident pass away on October 21, 1998. She is survived by a son Robert of Menominee.

Jane (Chisholm) Lucchesi, 86, of South Range, passed away on October 22, 1998. Jane was a former teacher in the South Range Elementary School. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Geno in 1983. Surviving are one granddaughter, Lori wheeler of Montrose; one grandson, Andrew Hecker of Belleville, IL, and two great grandchildren.

Elsie (Hietals) Vandette, 88, of Houghton, died October 20, 1998. Surviving are one son, Jack (Lorraine) of Belleville, MI; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a sister Mae Aho of Colorado. Burial in the Forest Hill Cemetary.

Oren David Krumm, 18, of Pelkie died on October 21, 1998. Oren was a freshman at Michigan Technological University. Oren is survived by his parents, Marj and Ray of Pelkie, his grandmother, Emma Krumm and grandmother, Irene Simpson.

Margaret Forcia, 87, of L'Anse died on October 20, 1998. Margaret is survived by her husband, John; a son Albert Arsenault of San Francisco; two daughters, Lillian Jones of Palmer, TX and Sharon Hill of Harrison, MI. Interment in the Assinins emetery.

Ronald V. Karppinen, 55, of Painesdale, died on October 19, 1998. Ron is survived by his mother, Rose Grandchamp of Minnesota Lake, MN; a daughter Jamie Karppinen of Gatesville, and three sons, Terry of South Range, Larry of Superior Location, Houghton, and Michael of Munising. Funeral services at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at the Mountain View Morturary in South Range.

Gerhardt Schreiber, 80, of Calumet died on October 18, 1998. Surviving are his wife, Elaine, a sone, Stephen of Calumet; a daughter, Susan Arko of Laurium, two grandsons, Carl Arko and Reilly Schreiber. Burial in the Lake View Cemetery of Calumet.

Eleanor E. (Lehto) Bula, 83, of Chassell, died on Monday, October 19, 1998. Funeral Service on Thursday, October 22, 1998, 11 AM, at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church. Surviving are one sister, Inez Arvo and several nieces and nephews.

Waino A. Huotari, 67, of Mass City, passed away on October 17, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; one son, Todd of Ontonagon; four daughters, Tammy of brimley, Tina Aho of Ontonagon, Tracy of Laurium, and Tricia Cleary of Marquette. interment in the maple Grove Cemetary.

Stuart Davis, 59, of L'Anse passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 17, 1998. Stu had been on the L'Anse Village Council, was a former police officer for the Village and was active in coaching Softball. He is survived by his wife, Leann, two sons, Jeffery of Benton Harbor, and Steven of Indiana and a daughter, Alyna of L'Anse.

Kenneth E. Hyttinen, 58, of Oskar, died on October 16, 1998. Surviving are three children and one grandchild. Gravesid e services were held at the Liminga Cemetery.

Erma Lucille (Ahola) Stridfelt, 86, of Centennial Location died on October 16, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Wallace Renn of Indianapolis, IN., and Leslie Renn of Bay City. Funeral services on Oct. 22, 1 PM in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home of Calumet.

Dora (Dostaler) Bezotte, 87, of Chassell passed away on October 18, 1998. Dora was a correspondent for the Daily Mining Gazette and, with her husband Russell, owned and operated the Chassell IGA store. Surviving are two sons, David of Houghton and Richard of Chassell. Burial in the Chassell Cemetery.

James P. Parolini, 83, of Hancock, died on October 15, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Marge, one son, James, and three daughters, Carole Morrelo of Whitmore Lake, Gina and Jo Anne of Onkalos Corner. A Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Oct. 19, 11 AM, Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range.

Martha A. (Franti) Risku, 86, of Watton, passe away on October 15, 1998. Surviving are five sons, Wilbert, Ronald, Gary, Daniel, and Edwin all of Watton, a daughter Shirley Younggren of Covington; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Burial in the Covington Cemetery.

Jacob A. Belkola, 85, of South Range, died on October 11, 1998. Jake worked for Range Oil and Gas of South Range driving fuel truck and also was a school bus driver for the Adams Township Schools. Surviving are one son, Robert of Racine, WI. and a daughter, RoseMarie Taavola of Atlantic Mine.

Gerald Walton Stork, 46, of Ontonagon, died on October 12, 1998, after a lengthy illness. Jerry is survived by his wife Terry, and a daughter, Tara of Westland.

Mary M. (Franks) LaCasse, 66, of Lake Linden, passed away on October 12, 1998. Surviving are her husband Ken, son Dawson (Wendy) of marquette and a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (Norbert)Miller of Lake Linden.

Gary Elleson, of Laurium, passed away on October 9, 1998. He is survived by his special friend and companion, Tina Hodges. He is also survived by his brother Ralph of Antigo, WI.

Clarice C. (Stafford) Kovachich, 84, a former Laurium bussinesswoman and council member passed away on October 10, 1998. She is survived by three daughters, JoAnn (Richard)Aho of Austin, MN, Claire (Bruce) Waananen of Ishpeming, and Jean Kovachich of Bessemer. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

Arnold Alfred Rautiola, 93, of Hancock, died on October 5, 1998. Surviving are sons Clifton (Patrica) of Okemos and Lloyd (Lois) of Concord, Mass., Norman, of Reed City, MI; also daughters, Joyce (Dante) Iacovoni of Lake Forest, IL. and Marily (Larry) Glover of St. Cloud, MN, and Marlene (John) York of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI.

Wilfred O. Milde, 85, of Dollar Bay died unexpectedly at his home on October 9, 1998. Bill was the superintendent of the Osceola Township Schools for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Gen, four children and thirteen grandchildren. Joan (Dan)Lorenzetti of Hancock, Mary (Ken) Thompson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., Bryan (Patti) Milde and Peggy (Bob) Thembreull of Escanaba.

Joan "JoAnne" Brulla, 83, of Hancock, passed away October 8, 1998. She is survived by two brothers, Albert Brulla of Laurium and Paul (Poncho) of Big Traverse.

Christine L. (Penrose) Lantto, 51, of Prospect Street, Hancock, passed away on October 7, 1998. Surviving Christine are her two daughters, Cynthia of Houghton and Connie at home. Christine is also survived by a son, Michael (Christina) of Houghton and four grandchildren.

Henry S. "Hank" Saari, 81, a former Hancock Post Office mail carrier, died on October 1, 1998. He is survived by a brother Robert (Dorothy) Saari of Boulder City, Nevada and a half brother, Arne (Frances) Saari of Garfield, MN.

Mae Arbutus (Webb) Benney, 81, of Calumet, passed away on October 6, 1998. Surviving are her husband, Marshall; a sone, Marshall (Georgia)Jr., of Gladstone; a daughter, Beverly (Thomas) Shelby of Warren, twelve grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Louis P. Pastore, 80, of Baltic Avenue, South Range, died on October 5, 1998. Louis was known for his antique dealing in the area. He is survived by four nieces.

Lina K. (Anderson) Sallinen, 87, a former Chassell resident passed away on October 5, 1998. Lina is survived by one son, Albert (Gerry) Gilfven of Stambaugh and three grandchildren.

Ernest C. Steinhilb, 69, of Trimountain, died on October 5, 1998. Surviving are two brothers, Helmuth of Painesdale and Walter of Canton; one sister Elsie Ahonen of Dearborn. Burial in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.

Donald R. Thompson, 72, of Kearsarge and White Lake, died on October 5, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Leonora; two sons, Donald (Jennifer) of Farmington hills, and John (Shari) of South Lyon; two daughters, Patricia (Dwight) Devereaux of Fairview and Susan (Michael) LaBar of White Lake. Interment in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
