Norman H. Solmonson, 84, of Laurium passed away on January 8, 1999. He was born on August 15, 1914, in Laurium, a son of Holger and Anna Solmonson. He is survived by several cousins.

William F. Peltomaa, 82, of Chassell, died on January 7, 1999. He was born August 14, 1916, in Chassell, a son of Frank and Aina Peltomaa. On October 22, 1949, he married Ruth m. Kallungi. Bill worked at the Chassell Fisheries; was manager of Chassell 66 Service; and prior to retiring, worked for the DNR as Land Habitat Manager. He is survived by his wife, five children; Carol Gazvoda of Chassell, Gail Johnson of Hancock, Judy Peltomaa of Okemos, David of Okemos, Lois Raymond of Traverse City and five grandchildren. Funeral services on Monday, January 11, at the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Raymond Hakola, 51, of Greenland, passed away on January 7, 1999. Born February 24, 1947, in Hancock, son of Reino and Violet Hakola. He worked at Celoten in L'Anse, and later worked at White Pine Copper for 17 years. On Feb. 5, 1967, he married Bernadine Gregorich at the Sts. Peter and paul Catholic Church in Greenland. He is survived by his wife, a son Raymond Jr. of Greenland, three daughters; Renee Tamowski of Mass City, Rachelle Bourdeau of Mass City, and Ronda Hokans of Monroe, MI. Also surviving is his mother Violet of Baraga, a sister Deanna Allen of Green Bay, WI ; three brothers, Gary of Baraga, Robert SR. of Pelkie, and Dale of Baaraga.

Robert Lantto, 56, of Fulton Location, Mohawk, passed away at his home on January 6, 1999. Surviving are his mother; Martha of Fulton Location and a brother James of Roscommon.

Donna Lee Windsor, 60, of White Pine, passed away on January 1, 1999, at her daughters home after a long illness.

Rose Shegina, 95, of Laurium, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 1998. Rose was born in Osceola on June 23, 1903, a daughter of Matt and Roselia Strauss. She is survived by her four children; Ernest Shegiana of Howell, Marie Barbin of Methuen, MA, Frank Shegina of Irvine, CA, and Rosalie Weber of Chantilly, VA; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Rev. William E. Burgess, 68, of Ontonagon, died on January 2, 1999. He was born on Spril 26, 1930, to the late Leighton and Louise Burgess. He was married in 1956 to Ellen Thompson and has one daughter, Jeannie Manning, and one granddaughter, Sheryne Manning.

Mayme E. (Kyllonen) Bilto, 83, of Hancock, died on December 31, 1998. She was born June 10, 1915, in Redridge, a daughter of Peter and Evelyn Kyllonen. On September 7, 1979, she married Reino Bilto. He preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lillian (Hoogana) Brouillette, 80, of Calumet Township, died on January 3, 1999. Lillian was born on August 30, 1918, in Laurium, a daughter of Jalmer and Carolina Hoogana. She married Lawrence Brouillette in 1944. She is survived by her husband; two sons, David of Dollar Bay, and Don of Calumet; a brother, Roy; and two sisters, Lu and Linda.

Donald D. Corey, II, 81, of Hancock, passed away on January 1, 1999. He was born on May 7, 1917, in Clarmont, Virginia, a son of the late Donald and Mabel Corey. On April 26, 1947, he married the former Elsie Hoover. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Lylan Corey of hancock, Carol Geiger of Houghton, and Helen Corey of Dodgeville; two sons, D. David and Wesley of Mass City; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters and two brothers.

Eleanor Staebler, 93, of Houghton died on Jan. 4, 1999.

Olga Heikkila, 81, of Ontonagon died on Jan. 4, 1999, in Waukegan, IL.

Irene E. Lievonen, 89, of Laurium, passed away on January 3, 1999. Irene was born on June 11, 1909, in Calumet, a daughter of the late Isaac and Heta Sofia Lindgren. At an early age she moved to rural Lake Linden. She married Ernest Lievonen in 1942. He passed away in 1973. Surviving are a son Francis of Farmington and a daughter Virginia Ylitalo of Lake Linden.Spring burial in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Kelsey Leeann Mayo, infant triplet daughter of Tom and Tina Mayo of Gwinn, died on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Holden Hospital, University of Michigan Hospitals, Ann Arbor. She was born on Dec. 8, 1998. She is survived by her parents; her triplet brothers, Alec and Lucas; a sister, Makayla; grandparents, Karen and Kenneth Kristo of L'Anse and Jim and Suzie Mayo of Baraga.

Ed Jokipii, 75, a well known L'Anse school teacher, died on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999. He was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Pelkie, a son of the late John and Amanda Jokipii. He grew up in Pelkie and attended the Pelkie and Baraga schools. On August 20, 1949, he married Elida Pelto in Pelkie. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Denny of L'Anse and Kirt of Plant City, FL; three daughters, Diane Grigsby of Virginia Beach, VA, Jonelle Pope of Waukesha, WI and Lisa Giddings of L'Anse.

Michael Latvis, 81, of L'Anse, died on Jan. 2, 1999. He was born on March 6, 1917, in Port Henry, NY, a son of the late John and Anna Latvis. He grew up in Hurontown and attended Houghton schools. On June 24, 1948, he married Eleanor Murvin in L'Anse. She preceeded him in death in 1986. Surviving are two sons, Donald of Madison Heights, and Michael of Troy.

Rose (Pena) Shegina, 95, of Laurium passed away on December 29, 1998. Rose was born in Osceola on June 24, 1903, a daughter of Matt and Rosalia Pena. Her husband, Peter, died in 1956. Rose is survived by her four children, Ernest of Howell, Marie Barbin of Methuen, Mass., Frank of LasVegas, and Rosalie Weber of Chantilly, VA.

Walter O. Lahti, 84, of Covington, died on December 29, 1998. Walter was born on May 19, 1914, in Keweenaw Bay. In 19578 he married Lydia Seppanen Trost in Detroit. She preceded him in death in 1970. He is survived by a sister, Helvi Heikkinen of Covington and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Walter Paull Chinn, 81, of Painesdale, died on December 28, 1998. He was born May 16, 1917, in Boston Location, a son of the late John Henry and Eliza Jane (Paull)Chinn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Grandchamp and his daughter, Marcia. Surviving are two daughters, Delores Bagnieski and Janet Vencato. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Richard L. Bozman, 74, of White Pine, died peacefully at his home on December 27, 1998.

Lynn (Kinnunen) Panke, 37, of Dodgeville, Died on December 29, 1998, at the Portage Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past nine days. Lynn was born on May 2, 1961, in Ontonagon, a daughter of Russell and Patricia Kinnunen. As a youth she resided in Mass City and Lake Linden. Lynn had worked at Michigan Technological University. On June 29, 1993, she married David P. Panke. Surviving Lynn are her husband and a daughter Nicole.

Wilbert Andrew Tolonen, 82, formerly of Atlantic Mine died on December 26, 1998. He was born January 3, 1916, in Atlantic Mine, the son of Charles Tolonen and Amanda Seppanen Tolonen. Wilbert is survived by his wife, Signe (Folk), of Gladstone, a daughter, Susan Hampton of Gladstone; one brother, John and two sisters, Gertrude and Elma Tolonen.

Justin R. LaRoux, 74, of Hubbell, died on December 25, 1998. He was born in Hubbell on January 13, 1924, a son of the late Alex and Agnes LaRoux. Justin sailed on the Great Lakes on the iron ore carriers, retiring in 1972. He is survived by a sister, Helen Engman of Houghton and several nieces and nephews. Spring burial in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Helen V.(Hebert) Normand, 90, of Lake Linden, died on December 26, 1998. She was born in Lake Linden on November 8, 1908, a daughter of the late Edward and Lumina Hebert. On August 30, 1930, she married Douglass Normand, he preceded her in death in 1975. Helen is survived by five sons, Paul of Lake Linden, Thomas of Detroit, Reuben of Lake Linden, James of Brighton, and Bernard of Troy; three daughters, Jane Kiiskila of Hancock, Ann Mahr of Kearsarge, Mary Bourdeau, of Marquette; 23 grandchildren; and 27 greatgrandchildren.

Carl "Al" Kargela, 70, of Calumet, died on December 24, 1998. He was born on February 27, 1928, in Calumet, a son of the late Elma and William Kargela. He was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers as a cook on the Great Lakes for 27 years. On September 13, 1957, he married Millicent J. Strom. Surviving are four daughters, Cheryl Paulson of Pinson, AL, Denise Palosaari of Calumet, Renae Knoll of Lake Linden, and Lisa Holloway of Mansfield, TX; and a stepson, James Dunn of Arlington Heights, IL.

James Voght, 42, of Lake Linden, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center on December 26, 1998, after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Hancock on May 31, 1956, to the late Robert and Effie Voght, Sr. He was employed as a custodian at Michigan Technological University. James is survived by a daughter, Carrie of Lake Linden; his sisters and brothers, June Hinkfus of Toledo, OH, Carol Longpre of Lac LaBelle, Dottie Voght and Don O'Donnell of Houghton, Joseph Voght of Hurontown, Barbara Guilford of Houghton, Diane Hughes of Hancock, and Patrick of Chicago.

Michael O. Meyer, 57, of Laurium, passed away in his home on December 22nd, following a long illness. Mike was born in Iron River on Dec. 26, 1940, a son of Otto "Bud" and Lorraine Meyer. Mike is survived by his wife, Ginger; a daughter, Leanna of Traverse City; his father, Otto, and brothers, Steven of Iron River and Ron of Negaunee; two step-daughter's, Donna Lawton and Dianna Hatchell of New Franken, WI.

Cecilia M. Machamer, 93, of Silver City, passed away on December 22, 1998, at the Maple Manor Nursing Center. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery.

David Elwood Weijola, 51, of Calumet passed away following a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 22, 1947, in Boston Location, to Gunnard and Eva Weijola. David is survived by a sister, Shirley Clark of Boston Location, two brothers, Duke of Boston Location and Dan of Beaver Dam, WI. He is also survived by his step-mother, Ann Weijola and three stepsisters, Joanne Sterbenz of Lake Linden, Inez Horsma of Coburntown, Debbie Laplander of Calumet; six stepbrothers, Gunnard of Laurium, Carl of Calumet, William of Laurium, John Clark of Boston Location, Robert Clark of hubbell, and Patrick Clark of Livonia.

Mary J. (Klarich) Witting, 83, of Hancock, died on December 20, 1998. Mary was born on April 30, 1915, at Victoria Dam (Rockland), a daughter of the late Matt and Milka Karich. On January 13, 1937, she married the late John A. Witting. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Coppo of DePere, WI, and Peggy Ylitalo of Hancock; five sons, John of Chassell, Albert of Hancock, James of Dollar Bay, George of Two Rivers, WI, and Bruce of Hancock. Spring interment will be in the Hancock Lakesid Cemetery.

Reino "Spinner" Kantola, 84, of Hancock, died on December 21, 1998. He was born on November 28, 1914, in Coburntown, a son of the late John and Hilma Kantola. In 1943 he married the former Hildegarde Selleng. Surviving Spinner are his wife; one sister, Saima Kokko of Livonia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles C. Erickson, 76, of Atlantic Mine, died on December 19, 1998. He was born in Atlantic Mine on April 9, 1922, a son of the late Leonard and Hilda Erickson. In 1941 he married Margaret Allen. Charles is survived by his wife and two grandchildren, Kimberly Damijan of Greenfield, WI and Tracy Stern of Milwaukee.

Anna Viola (Niemi) Michie, 83, of Mass City, died on December 20, 1998. She was born on May 4, 1915, in Mass City, to the late Selma and John Niemi. She married James A. Michie in 1944, he preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, James of Mass City, and Sandra of Brighton.

Edward L. Moilanen, 82, of Mason died on December 17, 1998. He was born June 22, 1916, in Boston Location, a son of the late Louis and Alina Moilanen. He attended school in Calumet. Edward is survived by his wife, Dorothy, one son and daughter-in-law, Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Edward A. (Joyce)Moilanen of Roscommon; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Jan) Stage of Appleton, WI.

Verona (Manderfield) Stone, 93, of Houghton, passed away on December 17, 1998, at her home. Verona taught in the elementary schools in Baltic and Painesdale for eight years. Surviving are two daughters, Genevieve Stone of Houghton and Ellen Sleeman of Ripley; two sons, John of Houghton Canal, and Charles of Baltimore.

Lillian A. (Palmer) Trudgeon, 83, of Hancock, died on December 15, 1998. Lillian worked in the laundry at the Painesdale High School; and for 16 years worked at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, retiring from there as laundry supervisor. Surviving are two sons, Richard of Twon Lakes and William of Romulus; two daughters, Lillian Coponen of Highland Park, and Nancy Koskela of Columbia, MO.

Kenneth E. Jarvi, 81, a former Paavola resident, died on December 16, 1998. On May 16, 1941, he married Sylvia Forsman in Hancock. She preceded him in death in 1981. Ken was a self-employed trucker and also worked construction and logging. Surviving are one son William (Regina) Jarvi of Paavola; three daughters Shirley Holquist of Ypsilanti, Arlene Monticello of Quincy Location, and Patricia Viola of Mount Clemens.

Ellen B. (Maki) Freitag, 71, of Baraga, died on December 15, 1998. On June 3, 1972 she married Harold Freitag in Pelkie. He preceded her in death in 1983. Surviving are two borthers, Raymond Maki of Highland Park and Eugene Maki of Baraga; a sister Evelyn Turunen of Pelkie.

Ferdinand O. Nordstrom, 77, a resident of Summit Street, Hancock, died on December 14, 1998. Ferdie had operated his ouwn grocery store on Summit Street in Hancock before going to work for Vollwerth & Co. On April 3, 1958 he was married to Ina S. Poyhonen. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Ann Pietila of Chassell, and Ruth Koski of Keweenaw Bay; on son, David of Atlantic Mine; 31 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Spring burial in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Bessie C. (Bally) Brookins,81, of Ontonagon, passed away on December 14, 1998. Bessie is survived by her husband, A.B. Brookins; her children, George Nygard, Bonnie Watt, Leroy bookins, Dale Bookins, Judith Hart, George Brookins, Joanna Cole, and Chrlotte Haas. Spring burial in the Riverside Cemetary.

Raymond J. Baril, 67, of L'Anse died on Dec. 13, 1998. He was employed at the Celotex Corporation in various positions, retiring from the Personnel Department. He is survived by his wife, Jean, a son, Steven of Aura; three daughters, JoAnn Donofrio of Aura, Janet Gerzetich of L'Anse, and Gail Mattson of L'Anse.

Clyde Kimball, 72, of Calumet died on Dec. 13, 1998. Surviving are on brother, Roderick and Doris of Rochester; nine nieces and nephews.

Roger D. Clisch, 63, of Alston, and formerly of Champion, died at home on December 13, 1998. Roger retired in 1993 for the State of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources, Parks Division. He was Park Manager at Van Riper State Park in Champion for many years. Roger is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley, eleven children, and twenty five grandchildren. The children are Peggy Niemi, Rose Perry, Jody Salmi, Cheryl Isotalo, Susan Sundblad, Nancy Hebert, R. David, Marty Nurmela, Michael, Patrick, and Todd. Visitation will be at St. Ann's Church in Baraga, on Dec. 16, 1998, 6-9 PM. Funeral services will be at St. Ann's on Dec. 17th at 11:00 AM.

Waino W. Johnson, 82, of Pelkie, passed away on Dec. 13, 1998. Mr. Johnson was a self-employed farmer. He is survived by five brothers, Fabian Edward, Toivo, and Wiljo, all of Pelkie, and Walter of Baraga. Burial in the Pelkie Cemetery.

Paul J. Walikainen, 51, of Hancock, passed away on December 11, 1998, at his home following a brave fight with cancer. Paul worked construction all his life, most recently for Tribal Construction Company in Baraga. He is survived by his son, Jacob of St. Paul, his mother and stepdad, Ether and Stanley Koupus of Houghton; a sister, Diane Carpenter of Brenham, TX; two brothers Gordon of Fenton and Dennis of Hancock. Spring burial in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.

Joseph R. Darcy, 76, of Baraga died Sunday morining at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital. "Smuck" was employed by the Pettibone Corp. for 39 years, principally as a painting contractor. He also worked for CCI for two years. Surviving are his wiffe, Gloria, whom he married May 23, 1945; two sons, Joseph of Marquette, and John of L'Anse; two daughters, Kathy Danielson of Baraga, and Linda Elsner of Durand of Baraga.

Barbara (Michel) Luttinen, 57, of Tamarack City, died on Wednesday, December 9, 1998. Surviving are her mother Kathryn of Hubbell; two sons, Allan and Kevin Luttinen both of Milwaukee and one daughter, Karin Luttinen of Marquette. Funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday, Dec. 14th, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden.

Phyllis L. (Hutala) Kilpela, 64, of Houghton, died as a result of a house fire at her home on Dec. 8, 1998. Phyllis is survived by two sons, John Vanhala of Chassell, and Dale Vanhala also of Chassell. Spring burial to be in the Oskar Cemetery.

Geste T. Benstrom, 87, of Ontonagon, passed away on December 8, 1998. Geste is survived by two sisters, Martha Hatfield of Davison, and Dorg Skurn of Ontonagon.

Ralph A. Prost, 75, of Baraga, died on December 8, 1998. Ralph is survived by his wife, Vieno, one son, Joseph of Dearborn, on daughter, Renee Heintz of Clarkston, MI. Also surviving are three stepsons, Edward Lindgren of Chassell, Dennis Lindgren of Baraga, and Michael Lindgren of Rhinelander, WI; two stepdaughters, Nancy Camarano of Itasca, IL and Karen Rytel of Lancaster, CA. Burial in the Baraga Cemetery.

Kathryn (Stefanac) Perrault, 84, of Hancock died on Dec. 7, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Albert, three daughters, Cecilia McChesney of Folsom, CA, Carol Haapapuro of Houghton, and Gracia Dyni of Hancock; a son, Albert C. Perrault of Hancock.

Paul H. Tormala, 58, of Painesdale, died on December 4, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Norma, four daughters and one son, Lora Perrault of Buffalo, NY, Paula Lucier of Hancock, Patrick Tormala of Oregon, Karen Sutinen of Wisconsin Rapids, and Kristine Tormala of Gwinn.

Helen M. (Ward) Koskinen, 76, of Hancock, died on December 5, 1998. Surviving are a daughter, Diane Feller of Ishpeming and a granddaughter, Lucinda Feller of Ishpeming.Spring burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Florence E. (Heikkinen) Mendelin, 85, of Centennial Heights, passed away on Dec. 4, 1998. Florence is survived by two sisters, Catherine Ranta of Farmington, and Helen Mcgee of Clinton Township.

Anna E. (Ollila) Baakko, 86, of Quincy Hill District, passed away on December 5, 1998. Surviving Anna are her children, Jeanne Kotila, John Baakko Jr., James Baakko, and Barbara Ylitalo, all of Hancock, Christine Johnson of Houghton, and Donald Karppinen of Atlantic Mine; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Laila Maki, 89, of Elo died on Dec. 7, 1998. Funeral services will be Dec. 10, 4 PM, at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Laila is survived by a son, Donald of Elo,and two daughters, Nancy Wiinamaki of Swartz Creek and Beatrice Morin of Houghton. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery.

Clifford F. Beauprey, 71, of Sidnaw, died on Monday, Dec. 7, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Peter and Richard both of Sidnaw, a daughter, Susan Colle of Ironwood; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Services on Dec. 10, 11 AM, at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse.

Oiva Usitalo, 81, of Baraga, died on Dec. 5, 1998. Mr. Usitalo was employed by CCI for 13 years, self-employed landscaping for 15 years, and at Pettibone Corp for three years. Surviving are his wife, Bernice, a brother-in-law, Everal Comfort and several nieces and nephews.

Fred J. Martell, 74, of Ironwood died at home on Dec. 2, 1998. Mr. Martell was a 1942 graduate of L'Anse High School. He served in the Navy Air Corp from 1942-1945. Martell coached in Lake Linden schools from 1949 to 1952. He also taught in the Ironwood schools. Surviving is survived by his wife, Marian, and three children; Jim of Spooner, WI, Carol Sokolowski of Eau Claire, and Ginny Luoma of Park Falls, WI.

Freeman Monson, 84, of Wyandotte, died on Nov. 30, 1998. He is survived by his wife Onnalee, a brother Charles of L'Anse and a niece Ellen Heikkinen.

Laura Rose (Bonefant) Fredianelli, 87, of Three Rivers, died on November 30, 1998. Mrs. Fredinaelli is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Bracco of Calumet and nephews Kenneth and Donald Bracco of Calumet. Burial in the Ft. Custer National Cemetery.

Francis Danis, of Calumet died on December 2, 1998, at Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient for a day. He is survived by his wife Jeanne; two sons, Gregory of Tillamook, OR, and Richard of Washougal, WA; two daughters, Francine Cross of Spanaway, WA, and Jeanette of Calumet.

Lempi Amanda (Nara) Raaska, 86, of Houghton, died suddenly on December 1, 1998. She was married to Arvo Raaska in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1956. Surviving are two daughters, Helmi of Ann Arbor and Mary Michie of Mass City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland.

Douglas Dean Johnson, 47, of Bruce Crossing, passed away on December 1, 1998, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug married Kathy Binder in 1971, in Bruce Crossing. He is survived by his wife; his parents, Willie and Luella Johnson of Bruce Crossing. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Laura Rose (Bonefant) Fredianelli, 87, of Three Rivers, died on November 30, 1998. Laura worked fifteen years for Michigan Bell and was a beautician in Three Rivers. She is susrvived by her sister, Elizabeth Bracco of Houghton.

Florence T. (Dorsky) Mattson, 88, of Houghton, died on November 28, 1998. Florence had worked at the former Joseph Payn Newstand in Hancock, and also for the J.C. Penney Store in Houghton for 20 years. In 1928 she was married to Robert Moon. In 1942 she married Werner Mattson who preceded her in death in 1950. Surviving are two daughters, Janet LePage of Standwood, MI, and Patricia Halkola of Dollar Bay.

Waino Kinnunen, 77, of Ishpeming, passed away on November 27, 1998. Surviving are his wife, Norma; two sons, Ronald of Negaunee, and Roger of Ishpeming; one daughter, Susan of Ishpeming. Burial in the Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Negaunee.

Robert R. Noel, Sr., 63, of Marquette, died November 28, 1998. Robert was owner and president of Noel Distributing Company in Marquette which he founded in 1975. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, three children, Robert, Curtis, and Christine all of Marquette; three step-children, Jesse, Brian, and Scott Cheeseman.

Margaret Moilanen, 63, of Hubbell, died on November 27, 1998. Peggy is survive by her mother Edna; two sisters, Doris Taggert of Hancock, and Loretta Haapapuro of Peshtigo, WI; two brothers, pat of hancock and Ray of Arizona.

Robert Easker, 71, of Mohawk, died on Nov. 28, 1998. Robert married Marylyn DeMartin in 1970. Burial will be in Windsor, Ontario.

Hilma J. (Wittaniemi) Palo, 83, of Bootjack, died on November 26, 1998. She is survived by a son, Carl of Pensacola, Fl, two daughters, Linda of Baltimore, Maryland, and Corinne Ferguson of Lake Linden; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three sisters.

Alfred Wickstrom, 86, of Redjacket Shaft Location, Calumet, died on November 25, 1998. He was first employed in the Wickstrom Family Market in Calumet, then for 23 years as a rural mail carrier. He was united in marriage to Katherine Crnkovich in 1948. He is survived by his wife, four sons, Paul and Joseph of Calumet, Robert of Pickerel, WI, and Donald Hendrickson of Sheboygan, WI and one daughter, Kim Reinking of Holland, MI.

Yvonne M. (Rivette) Rule, 63, of Hancock, passed away on November 25, 1998, at her home following a lenghty illness. Yvonne had worked at MTU as a secretary until she retired due to health reasons several years ago. Surviving are her husband, Donald, two daughters, Debbie Berryhill of Nashville and Cindy Larson of L'Anse and one son, Michael Stowe of Saginaw.

Whitney H. Blood, 77, of L'Anse, died on November 22, 1998, following a long illness. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; one daughter, Linda Patterson of New Boston, one sone, Richard of West Palm Beach, FL, and three grandchildren.

John E. Gedvillas, 79, of Humboldt, died on November 26, 1998. John had worked for 31 years for the C.C.I. Mining Company, retiring from the Tilden Mine in 1983. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Timberman of San Francisco, CA.

Carlo W. Karkkainen, 77, of Hancock, died on November 25, 1998. Carlo had worked for the Copper Range Company, the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company in Negaunee, and retired from the MTU Ores Research Department in 1984. On July 21, 1950, he married Kathryn Purri in Liminga. Surviving are his wife, four sons, Alan of Naperville, IL, Bradley of NY, NY, Mark of Menominee, and Scott of Royal Oak; two daughters, Karen hawke of Twin Lake, Cheryl Voisine of Lafayette, IN.

Camella (Naneville) Bailey, 85, of Laurium, passed away November 25, 1998. She was married to Garfield Bailey, Sr., in December of 1932, and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1966. Surviving are two sons, Dean of Jacksonville, AK, Garfield of Laurium; two daughters, Barbara Lindgren of Alpena and Camella Cole of Hamilton, AL.

Archie J. Anderson, 85, of Elo, died on November 24, 1998. Archie was employed for 23 years at General Motors Cadillac Division. Surviving are his wife, Rose; two daughters, maria Moore of Calumet, and Adelle Laho of Houghton; three sons, Andrew of Loretto, NM, Mathew of Tapiola, and Joseph of Buffalo, MN. Burial in the Elo Cemetery.

Ruth J. (Kemppainen) Hulkkonen, 72, of Nisula, passed away on November 23, 1998. Surviving are her husband Aimo; a son Charles of Nisula; three daughters, Beverly Kunick of Hubbell, Lynne Cadeau of Arnheim, and Carmen Harden of Aura.

James Gorjup, 71, of Calumet died on November 22, 1998, at the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital. He is survived by a daughter, Jennie Chomic of Rochester, a brother Albert of Tapiola and a sister Margaret Skufca of Ishpeming.

Eva Perrault, of Ahmeek died on November 21, 1998. Eva was married to the late Lawrence R. Most. She is survived by a son Lawrence of Atlanta, GA; a daughter Roxanne Rushlow of Forest Lake, MN, and Yvonne Moyer of South Lyon. Interment in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Alli M. Lahti, 81, of Herman, passed away on November 22, 1998. She is survived by her husband Reino; a son William; a daughter, Sharon Everson and four grandchildren.

William Barkell, 65, of Hancock died on November 23, 1998 following a brief illness. Mr. Barkell was first employed by the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company for 16 years. He was employed by D & N Bank for 20 years, and by Herman Gundlach for three years. He is survived by his wife Peggy; a son, Thom of Marquette; two daughters, Ann of Iron River and Sarah at home. Interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden.
