He married Vernita I. Walker in 1939 in Romeo. He was a lifetime farmer in the Romeo area. He had been a bus driver for Romeo Schools for 17 years and formerly employed at Pontiac Motors. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Romeo. He is survived by his beloved wife Vernita I. Slating; one son David L. (Linda) Slating of Romeo; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister Hazel Essex of Romeo. In 1950 Larry graduated from Michigan State University and was an active member Oakland County Chapter of the M.S.U. Alumni Association. He was a member of the Clarkston Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed recreational flying, hot air ballooning, volunteering at the local access cable television station in the role of video producer/editor. He had recently completed training and was hired as a class instructor for the Mature Driving program sponsored by GAA Michigan, the Traffic Improvement Association and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. STEVENSON, RYAN W.; age 25; of Holly; died at home on October 18, 1999 after a long and very brave battle with brain cancer. Ryan was born in Flint on September 28, 1974, the son of Tish Cox and Dean Stevenson. He lived in the Fenton-Holly area all his life. He was a 1992 graduate of Holly High School and was an employee of Royalite of Auburn Hills until the time of his illness. His most important job on this earth was teaching all those who loved him to have strength, courage, humor, love and the joy of life. Ryan loved playing baseball, coaching his mens softball team the last two summers, music, a really good party, and his family and friends. He loved life and enjoyed every moment on this earth. He was kind, strong, brave, and loving. He departed this life November 1, 1999 after a long illness at St. Joseph Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Janie, father Jim Henry, mother Hettie, son Jimmy (Sweet Daddy), daughter Mable and sister Helen. He attended the public school of Weaverville, NC. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Janie Mae Ford. To this union 9 children were born. Four sons, James Jr., Steven, Jimmy and Howard; five daughters, Virgie, Willie Mae, Nancy, Mable and Ethel. He was a retiree of the Oteen VA Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army. He confessed Christ at an early age. James leaves to cherish his precious memory his children, Virgie Rayford (Dave), Willie Mae Chambers, James Chambers Jr. (Willie Ann), Nancy Jackson (Marriscella), Steven Chambers, Ethel Jones (Kenneth), and Howard Chambers (Joyce), all of Pontiac, MI; 35 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 1 nephew; and a host of relatives and friends.
