Julia A. Gardner, age 90 formerly of Holly died Tues. June 24, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sat. June 28, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Friday. Mrs. Gardner was born in Detroit the daughter of John and Ida Milarski. She was active with the Blue Star Mothers and was known for her service to the community. She was a loving mother. Surviving are 5 children, Raymond (Rose) Kujawa of Memphis, MI, Ellen Lambert of Grand Rapids, Carvel (Kim) Gardner of Linden, Katherine (Bob) Dukatz of TN, and Velincia (Dale) Waugh of Holly; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Raymond Milarski of Memphis; and cousin Caroline Sporys of Westland. She was preceded in death by her husband John Kujawa, husband LaVerne Gardner Sr., son LaVerne Gardner Jr., daughter Sidonia Parker, and brother Stanley Milarski. Andrew Lee Steward, age 82 of Holly died Sat. June 14, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Sat. June 21, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Jim Wiegand officiating. A Family Hour will begin at 10:00 A.M. Sat. at the funeral home. Military honors and burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Mr. Steward was born in Merouge, Louisiana on March 15, 1926 to the union of Lee Steward and Mary Lou Washington. He attended the Louisiana public school system and served in the Armed Services receiving an honorable discharge. He was united in Holy Matrimony on June 25, 1966 to Edna Caldwell. Andrew retired from the Great Lakes Steel Corp. in Ecorse, MI after 40 years of faithful service. "Son" as he was called confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a 40 year member of the greater New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, MI where he served in the tape ministry and sang with the Mighty Voice of Thunder male chorus. He also participated in the Thursday Morning Promise Keeper Prayer Group in Holly, MI. Andrew L. Steward departed this life on June 14, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Mary Steward; brothers James and Harry; Brother-in-law Earl; and step-daughter Claudette (Gregory). He leaves to cherish his memory; his beloved wife Edna; son Keith Michael; step-son Andrew Curtis; step-daughters Carol (Fletcher) Gregory, Carolyn (Thomas) and Kathleen; Brothers John (Deborah) Lee Jr.; sisters Ann and Ethel; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Emily Alice Green, age 78 of Holly died Mon. June 16, 2008. She was born on May 14, 1930 the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Tripp) Merrill. She was a loving wife, mother, and awesome grandmother. She will be sadly missed. Kathryn Miller, age 87, loving wife of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2008 at her home in Holly after an illness of 5 years. Her husband Sidney was her caregiver. Kathryn retired in 1976 after 30 years of service in nursing at Pontiac State Hospital. Her son Jack preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Sidney; a step-daughter Charlene; step-son Frederick; and a brother Arthur of DesMoines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Isabel Yeagley, age 92 of Holly died Tues. June 3, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thurs. June 5, 2008 at Lakeside Cemetery, Holly with Pastor M. Jean Love officiating. Mrs. Yeagley was born in Atlantic City, NJ on Sept. 13, 1915. She was a second grade teacher in the Holly Schools for 30 years. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother and was an avid card player. She is survived by her son Michael Yeagley of Roswell, GA; 2 granddaughters Heidi (Kraig) Enders of Howell and Jill (Scott) Selzer of Cumming, GA; 3 great-grandchildren Haylie and Hope Selzer and Jackson Enders. She was preceded in death by her husband Del Yeagley and 3 sisters Jo, Dottie, and Gay. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Bruce Perry Van Geison, age 62, formerly of Holly, passed away on Thurs. May 29, 2008 at Country Meadows of Carsonville, MI. He was born on Jan. 18, 1946 at Mrs. Perry's Maternity Home in Holly. He was the third son of Burton and Evelyn (Oldaugh) Van Geison. He worked as an artist, a furniture mover, a janitor with Holly Schools, and on a horse farm. His avocation and first loves were drawing and making beautiful bird houses. Surviving are 2 brothers Duane and Gary (Mary) Van Geison; nieces and nephews Dewy, Twyla, Tanya, Flint and Burt; all the cousins from the Oldaugh family; Aunt Jackie and Uncle Fernando and Aunt Judy Van Geison and Uncle Ray Ranger; dear friend Marla Johnson and best friend Paul Sipes. The family would like to thank Duane Hall and his staff for the wonderful care they gave to Bruce. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Treva Nell Folwell, age 86 of Davisburg, passed away Mon. May 26, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Iven V. Folwell; beloved mother of Bobbie J. (Carol) Folwell, the late William P. (Theresa) Folwell, the late Harold D. (Christine) Folwell, Barbara N. (Brian) Hansen, and Gary N. (Ida) Folwell; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister of the late Buell, the late Geneva, the late Russell, Mary Lou, Wells, Jane, Ann, Pat, and Ronnie. Treva lived in Davisburg for the past 30 years. She was originally from Calloway County, Kentucky and was one of ten children. She was known to all as Granny. Kenneth (Harry) Smith, age 86 of Holly and most recently, Clio died Sat. May 24, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Calvary United Methodist Church of Holly with Pastor M. Jean Love officiating. Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Sunday at the Dryer Funeral Home in Holly and from 10-11 A.M. Tuesady at the church. Mr. Smith was born March 10, 1922 in Grant Township, MI, the son of Fred and Ethel Smith. He was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, a Marine veteran of WW II and retiree of Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Pre-deceased by his first wife Barbara V. Smith in 2006, he will be greatly missed by his current wife Doris Smith (married December, 2007), 6 children, Ken (Marcia) Smith of Waterford, MI and Dallas, TX, Steve (Sharon) Smith of Waterford, Bob Smith (Beth Brancheau) of Holly, Brad (Beth) Smith of Holly, Jeff (Michelle) Smith of Holly and Barb Smith of Derby, KS; 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Melanie, Kelly, Steve, Mike, Kerri, Sarah, Megan, Molly, Chelsea, Abbey, and Valerie; 4 great-grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Megan and Zoe; and two sisters Dorothy Chinn of Fort Lauderdale FL and Norma Wirgau of Apache Junction, AZ. Mrs. Ulicne was born in Fredericktown, PA on July 29, 1922 the daughter of George and Sadie (McNat) Swaney. She is survived by her sons George (Kathy) Ulicne Jr of Ohio and Andy (Ruthann) Ulicne of Holly; 4 grandchildren, Kim, Mike, Sean, and Jeff; 3 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Mike, and Alexis; brothers and sisters George (Sally) Swaney of FL, Dorothy Sadelak of PA, Betty Burke of PA, and Lester (Mary) Swaney of PA. She was preceded in death by her husband George Ulicne Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Fenton Healthcare Center. Walter J. Klukowski, age 87, formerly of Milford died Sun. May 4, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Rev. Kenneth Hogg officiating. Burial will be in Rose Center Cemetery, Holly with military honors under the auspices of Amel Schwartz Post #149 American Legion and Hulet-Bravender Post #5587 VFW. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 PM Thursday. Mr. Klukowski was born in Cleveland, OH on July 17, 1920. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army with the Merrill's Marauders, and he helped build the Burma Road. He was retired from the Ford Wixom Plant and was a member of UAW Local 36. He was a member of the Walled Lake Missionary Church. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Hoig, formerly of Milford; son Gary (Kathryn) Fleming) of Holly; 8 grandchildren, Todd Hoig, Jason Klukowski, William Hoig, Patricia Sene, Stanton Hoig, Ian Klukowski, Allison Van Every, and Todd Van Every; 1 great-grandson Abraham Sene; He was preceded in death by his wife Doris on March 27, 2008.
