Betty (Ferguson) Sherman
Betty Sherman, 77, of Bloomfield Hills, died Dec. 19, 2002, at home. She was raised in Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Sherman worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II. She was a homemaker who enjoyed collecting antiques.
She is survived by husband, Charles; son, Gary (Patti); grandchildren, Stacie (Brad) Batur, Donald, Peter, and Brooke; sisters, Dorothy Horton, Marg Schmid, Thelma Oltersdorf, Clema Kruger and Jan Buchanan.

Martha McCullough Vincent
Martha Vincent, 93, of Rochester Hills, died Dec. 20, 2002, at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills. She was born August 11, 1909 in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Mrs. Vincent was a homemaker who had lived in Rochester Hills for 13 years, formerly from Islington, Ontario, Canada.
She is survived by daughter, Joanne (Bob) Willig of Bloomfield Hills; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Breta Loree Evans
Breta Evans, 80, of Dearborn, formerly of West Bloomfield and Birmingham, died Dec. 20, 2002, at Henry Ford Village Care Center in Dearborn, where she resided.
Mrs. Evans attended Hillsdale College and was a graduate of Wayne State University. She was a retired English and music teacher in the Farmington Hills Public School System.
She is survived by husband, Erkskine W.; daughters, Carol (Warren) Risk of Richland and Nancy (Timothy) Cash of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Loree, Wendy, Lisa, Amy, and Douglas; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Haelee, Elizabeth and Cameron.

Dr. Wesley S. Green
Dr. Wesley Green of Beverly Hills, died Dec. 20, 2002, at Heartland of West Bloomfield. He was born in Detroit in 1928.
Dr. Green attended the University of Michigan, where he wrote and edited for The Gargoyle, a student-humor magazine; and The University of Detroit, where he later taught for awhile before serving in Germany as a U.S. Army Lieutenant during the Korean War.
He was an entrepreneur as well as a dentist (33 years), working as the co-host of a radio call-in show on dental questions; head of Octagon Publishing; a catering company called Marigold Dill; and two downtown Birmingham stores, The Birmingham Bead and True Faux jewelry store. He was a member of the Michigan Dental Society; the Detroit District Dental Society; Mensa; and the congregation of Shaarey Zedek.
Dr. Green is survived by wife, Arlene; children, Melinda Green (Jeffrey) Tepler, Amy Green Thrasher, David, Elliott, Rebecca Green (Bruce) Sher and Benita; and 11 grandchildren.

Susan Kay Bossick
Susan Bossick, 57, of Berkley, formerly of Royal Oak, died Dec. 20, 2002, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born Dec. 12, 1945, in Detroit.
Mrs. Bossick was a graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Clawson and Kimball High School in Royal Oak. She was a former Deli Clerk for Farmer Jack in Birmingham. She was a member of Guardian Angels Church. She loved arts and crafts, floral design, catering, reading, decorating and watching the Home & Garden Show.

Sarah D. Sprung
Sarah Sprung, 90, of St. Clair, formerly of Birmingham, died Dec. 21, 2002. She was born May 29, 1912, in Detroit.
Mrs. Sprung graduated from Wayne State University. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in St. Clair, serving in the church guild and the thrift shop.
She is survived by children, Richard (Janie), Tom (Judy), Tim (Elena), David (Donna) and Mary (Paul); twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Willaim Richard Bales
William Bales, 91, of Royal Oak, died Dec. 21, 2002, in Rochester Hills. He was born March 1, 1911 in Detroit.
Mr. Bales retired from the Birmingham Eccentric & Observer Newspapers as a bookbinder. He enjoyed nature, camping, scouting, trips to the mall, sports and belonged to the Farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed listening to baseball and the Red Wings on the radio.
He is survived by children, B.Joan (Robert) Lang, Richard (Gail, William (Kathryn), Michael (Sally), Judith Eno, Mary Jane (James) Ritz and Mark (Susan); 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Geraldine Gibbs
Geraldine Gibbs, 93, died Dec. 21, 2002, at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford. She was born in LaMotte, Iowa in 1909.
Ms. Gibbs graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and Wayne State University in Detroit. She was a school teacher for 39 years in Iowa, Illinois and Pontiac. In Pontiac, she taught at Wisner Elementary School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international society for woman educators.
She is survived by niece, Katherine A. (Carlton) Roeser of Troy and great-nephew, John C. Roeser of Arlington, Va.

G. Robert Fox
G. Robert Fox, 78, of Bloomfield Township, died Dec. 6, 2002, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Fox graduated from the University of Miami Ohio and Wayne State University. He was employed as an architect for Smith, Hinchman ACCOC. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects.
He is survived by wife, June; children, Chrisry Fox of Lansing, Vicki (Len) DiLaura of Beverly Hills and Jimmy (Wendy) of West Bloomfield; eight grandchildren; siblings, O.James, Jr. and Ruth McQuigg.

William Kessler
William Kessler of Grosse Pointe and a Birmingham area architect died in Nov. 2002.
He was chief designer for Leinweber, Yamasaki and Hellmuth, Architects, Detroit; established Meathe, Kessler and Associates, Architects; William Kessler and Associates; and Kessler Francis Cardoza Architects. He was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects; visiting professor, University of Michigan College of Architecture; served as member and chair of the Governor's Commission on Art in Public Places; has lectured and juried at many U.S. universities and A.I.A. chapters and in Germany.
He had been an active sailor, tennis player, painter and sports car enthusiast. He is survived by wife, Margot; daughters, Tamara (William) Checkley and Chevonne (Michael) Patten; and grandchildren, Aaron, Alexander and Ariel.

Therese V. Maurer
Therese Maurer, 81, of Bloomfield Hills, formerly of Beverly Hills, died Dec. 9, 2002, at home. She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Hamtramck.
Mrs. Maurer was a past member of Red River Golf Club. She enjoyed swimming, golf, ice skating, knitting and she loved Christmas.
She is survived by children, Mark (Kathy) Shada and Claudia (Rob) Lamb; grandchildren, Tara, Carrie, Jill and Ashley; and sister, Mary Ann Shada.

Peter Paul Barlow, M.D.
Peter Barlow, M.D., 74, of Birmingham, died Dec. 6, 2002.
Dr. Barlow graduated from Cass Techical High School, John Hopkins University, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and came to the University of Michigan Medical Center for residency training in Internal Medicine. During this training he was called to the United States Army, serving as a captain in the Medical Corps in Germany. After the service he completed his residency and then served a Fellowship at U-M. He stayed on the faculty of the University of Michigan Medical School, serving as Senior Clinical Instructor and then assistant professor of Internal Medicine.
In 1962, he practiced with the Birmingham Allergy Clinic, and was on staff with Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, retiring in 1998. Dr. Barlow was a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; the American Association of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (Regional president 1976); the American Association of Certified Allergists; the American Medical Association; The American Geriatrics Society; the Michigan State Medical Society; the Detroit Academy of Medicine; and the Oakland County Medical Society. He enjoyed reading, photography, was a movie buff, computer enthusiast, golf and tennis.
He is survived by wife, Christiane; children, Jason (Tabitha), Lisa, Angela (Craig) Shackleford, Andrea (Mark) Henderson; grandchildren, Justin, Chelsey, Ian, Isabella and Aiden.

Leonard M. Niebylski
Leonard Niebylski, 77, of Beverly Hills and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Dec. 10, 2002, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Hamtramck.
Mr. Niebylski was a veteran of the the U.S. Air Force, where he was a corporal, serving as a bombardier in the later stages of World War II. He graduated from Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. He was retired from Ethyl Corp. where he was a Research Physicist. He held over 200 patents. He was once a research consultant for M.I.T., Cal Tech, University of Calif., Berkeley; a member of Who's Who-Midwest and Co-founder of the Beverly Hills Little League Baseball. He enjoyed custom framing.
Mr. Niebylski is survived by wife, Jeannette; children, David (Debbie), Richard, Dr. Bruce, Mary (Ross) Bergeron, Roger, Dr. Charles (Maria), Dr, Mark, Amy (Stephen) Mathews; 10 grandchildren; brother, Anthony (Pam).

William E. Hogan "Bill"
Bill Hogan, 73, of St. Clair, formerly of Birmingham, died Dec. 10, 2002 at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born March 30, 1929, in Detroit.
Mr. Hogan graduated from the University of Detroit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1988 as president of W.E. Hogan Company, which he founded. He was a private pilot and member of Airplane Owners & Pilots Association. He was a member of the River District Club in St. Clair; an active churchman and past parish council member of St. Regis Church and a former Boy Scout Leader. Mr. Hogan enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by wife, Judith Ann; children, Colleen (David) Adams, William E., III (Christine), Robert (Lori) and Mary Anne Hogan (Gerald) Johnson; eight grandchildren; sister Jeanne Kenyon.
