Lester Leroy Zane, age 75, died Fri. May 30, 2008 in Flint, MI. He was born in Flint on Aug.. 28, 1932 the son of Ernest and Adeline (Temming) Zane. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1950 and from the University of Michigan Humane Society.
Rex (aka Tweese) Crandall, age 48 of Holly died Fri. May 23, 2008 after a long struggle with Diabetes, Kidney and Heart Disease. Rex was born June 25, 1959 and was a 1977 graduate of Holly High School. Rex traveled the world during his employment with Durr Automation until his health began to fail. He was a member of the Holly Masonic Lodge #134 and Loyal Order of the Moose #1168 of Holly. He is survived by his mother Shari (Merrill) Franklin, son Adam, sisters Gaye and Diane, one niece, three nephews, one great-niece; and longtime girl friend Lora Koen. Rex was preceded in death by his father Rex W. Crandell, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Erwyn (Dusty) Rhoades and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Crandall. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to DaVita Dialysis of Grand Blanc and the National Kidney Foundation. A Celebration of Rex's Life will begin at 1:00 P.M. Sat. May 31, 2008 at the Holly VFW Hall with visitation following until 4:00 P.M. The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita of Grand Blanc and the 8th floor of McLaren Hospital for their excellent care of Rex during his illness and their wonderful support. Beverly Jean Ellis, age 76 of Holly died Thurs. May 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tues. May 20, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Holly with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. Mon. Mrs. Ellis was born in Flint, Mi. On Feb. 28, 1932 the daughter of Ernest and Essie (Taylor) Jeffers. She is survived by her husband Donald Ellis; daughter D'Arcy (Kevin) Williams; grandchildren Meagan (Matt) Turner and Erica Williams; sister-in-laws Sue (Bob) Warren and Paula Bacon. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jeff Byron Ellis, granddaughter Jessica Williams, sisters Dorothy Stevens, Lottie Jeffers, and sister-in-law Josephine Ellis.
Ruth Ann Morgan, age 65 of Holly died Thurs. May 8, 2008 at home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Mon. May 12, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Darrell Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Sat. and from 4-9 P.M. Sunday. Mrs. Morgan was born in Goodrich on Nov. 9, 1942 the daughter of William and Ila (Bowren) Perigo. She was a care giver for OLSHA for 14 years. She loved kids, her cat Fluffy, collecting tea pots, helping friends, her pillows, and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James "Jim" Morgan; daughter Tara (John) Zuniga of Waterford; sister Florence Franklin of Ortonville; several nieces and nephews; and lots of friends at Holly Elementary. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barbara Fearson. Memorials may be made to the Michigan University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Lisa was awarded a Masters Degree from Oakland University. For ten years, Lisa was a dedicated kindergarten teacher, who was endeared by students and faculty at Davisburg Elementary School. Lisa's love for children continued to be evident as she volunteered at Holly Elementary School and as a catechism teacher at St. Rita Catholic Church. Lisa loved no job more than being Kye's mom. Upon meeting Lisa, people always commented on her beautiful smile and positive attitude. During her battle with cancer, Lisa achieved her final goals of making her family's annual trip to Panama City Beach, Michigan, Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Garnet F. Merrill, age 57 of Mundy Twp., formerly of Holly died Sat. April 27, 2008. Graveside services and military honors will be held at 12:00 Noon. Thurs. May 1, 2008 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Mr. Merrill was born in Holly on June 21, 1950. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the GM Cadillac Plant of Grand Blanc and was a member of the Holly Moose Lodge. He is survived by his son Bryan (Angela) Merrill of Grass Lake; daughter Christy Merrill, a teacher in Swaziland, Africa, formerly of Grand Blanc; 2 grandchildren, Reiley and Abby Merrill; and sister Sandra Kohlman of Holly. He was preceded in death by his mother Elaine Dodge and his father Frederick Merrill.
Karen G. Laidlaw, age 69 of Holly died Tues. April 22, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Sat. April 26, 2008 at the Dryer Funerall Home, Holly with Mr. Virgil Long officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Friday. Mrs. Laidlaw was born in Flint on Oct. 10, 1938 the daughter of Roy and Norma (Wager) Thorington. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holly and a member of the Holly Women of the Moose.. She is survived by her nephew Justin (Dawn) Thorington of Holly; great-nephews Justin II, Dakota, and Brandon Thorington; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry Laidlaw, and brother Bruce Thorington. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holly or the American Diabetes Association.
Alma L. Navarre, age 105 of Holly died Thurs. April 17, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Rev. Robert D. Walters officiating. Burial will be in Ottawa Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 P.M. Sunday. Mrs. Navarre was born in Cass City, MI on Jan. 25, 1903 the daughter of William and Mary (Macvicar) Owen. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Clarkston. She is survived by her daughter Bette Schlutow of Waterford; son William Navarre of Michigan University and taught Physical Education in the Huron Valley Schools at Highland for 31 years. He coached basketball, baseball, and golf, retiring in 1982 after which he was inducted into the Hall of Honor. He was a lifetime member of the M.E.A. and N.E.A. Wayne was a long time member of the Fenton United Methodist Church. He married Jessie Cameron in 1950 and they spent their retirement winters at their home in the Smokey Mountains of Dunn in Keokuk, Indianapolis, IN and Kimberly Kay Cappell (Travis Bartness) of Duluth, MN; 3 grandchildren, Samantha, Hunter, and Damon; brothers and sisters, Linda (Lyle) DeWitt and James Cappell of FL, Jay (Lynda) Cappell of SC, and Robert Cappell and Wendy Foster of MI. Local survivors are sisters-in-law Joanne (Mike) Dill of Croton and Karen (Harold) Daniels of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vicki Robertson, nephew Brian Powell, Brenda's parents Floyd and Dorothy Dunn and brother-in-law Dickie Dunn. Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M.
