Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Saturday. Adam was born in Pontiac on May 19, 1989 the son of Frankie and Leslie (Moery) Powell. He was a 2007 graduate of Holly High School. He loved fishing, hunting, sports especially basketball, and he had many friends. Bertrand E. Merrill, age 71 of Holly died Fri. June 1, 2007 at home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Mon. June 4, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Holly with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Sunday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. Merrill was born in Holly on June 17, 1935 the son of Roy and Ruth (Tripp) Merrill. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Holly Moose and Holly Lions Club. He loved fishing. Surviving are his wife Claudia; son Bruce "Butch" Merrill of Holly; 6 grandchildren, Kelly, Heidi, Travis, Amanda, Joshua, and Stephen; 2 great-grandchildren; step-daughters Kim (Reginald) Hoskins of Redford and Christine (Steven) Grzemkowski of Burton; 5 sisters Eunice Clark, Betty Kelly, Grace Spensley, Emily Green, and Edie Bailey all of Holly; and mother-in-law Annie White of Grand Blanc. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Murray, sister Doris, and brothers Fred and Roy Merrill. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Susan Thelma Rugg, age 57, died May 19, 2007. Visitation will be Tues. and Wed. from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mrs. Rugg was born in Oakland, California on Dec. 12, 1949 the daughter of George and Thelma (Ahlfont) Palus. She worked assembly in the automotive industry. Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Kenneth: 2 sons, Kenneth-Ryan Rugg and Jason Bialk. Three Grandchildren, Starr, Riley, and Owen Bialk; 3 sisters, Karen Couzens, Donal Palus, and Kathleen Palus; 2 neices, Nicole Couzens and Tara Sullivan. Susan loved her grandchildren, enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardner. Memorials may be made to American Lung Assoc. or Gift of Life.
Dale Lewis Cooper, age 62, died Monday May 14, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tue. May 22, 2007 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with John A. Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-9 P. M. Mon. Mr. Cooper was born in Casper, Wyoming on April 5, 1945 the son of Thixton W. and Mildred (Kosch) Cooper. He was a computer programmer and is now retired. Dale was an air force Viet Nam veteran and belonged to the American Legion #117 in Ohio. Surviving are his wife Nancy, daughters Windesence Brogan, Tracey (Scott) Hord, Marta Westenfelder, Amanda Roerink; one son, Guy C. (Melisa) Cooper; 12 grandchildren, step-daughter Marcy Schwab, mother, Mildred Cooper; brother John (Linda) Cooper: 2 sisters, Delaine (John) Heyman and Brenda (Mark) Anders. Robert William Fagan, age 83 of Holly died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at St Rita Catholic Church, Holly with Father David Blazek officiating. Burial will be in Hadley Cemetery, Holly where his ancestors are who came to this area in the 1830’s. Visitation will be at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly from 2-8 P.M. Sunday with a Rosary at 7. P.M. Bill was born in Kalamazoo, Mi. on July 12, 1923. His parents were William and Pauline (Foldenauer) Fagan. Bill was a pilot in the Marine Corps during World War II. He met and married his wife of 62 years, Dorathy Pepper, when they were both stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Santa Barbara, California; he stayed in the Marine air reserve and was stationed at the Grosse Ile Naval Station. He worked for the U. S. Government 35 years. He was the Holly Postmaster and later worked in the office of the Social Security Administration. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Kathleen Bartley and her husband, Michael; his son, Thomas William Fagan and his wife Katie. Another son, James, died at the age of two and a half. There are three grandchildren; Brendan Bartley and his wife Michelle, Ryan Bartley and his wife Jodi, Mollie Myers and her husband Rocky. There are also three great grandchildren, William Bartley, Samuel Bartley, and Sydney Myers. He was known for his quick wit, his card playing, and telling long but funny jokes. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Holly Township Library.
Martha Blakemore Anspach, age 93 formerly of Holly died Mon. May 14, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thurs. May 17, 2007 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor M. Jean Love officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Wed. Mrs. Anspach was born in Flint on Aug. 7, 1913 the daughter of James and Mildred (Pennell) Lawrence. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Holly, the D.A.R., the Button Society, and the NW Oakland County Historical Society. Surviving are 4 children, Ronald Blakemore of Swartz Creek, Larry (Judy) Blakemore of Holly, Tom (Pat) Blakemore of Swartz Creek, and Marilyn (Mike) Tubbs of Peck; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and sister Nellie Smith of Grand Blanc. She was preceded in death by her brother Earl, husbands Arthur Blakemore and Sam Anspach, son John Blakemore, and grandson Chad. Ernest A. Priestley, age 63 of Holly died Sat. May 12, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wed. May 16, 2007 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Dale Swihart officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 .M. Tuesday. Mr. Priestley was born in Holly on July 23, 1943 the son of Franklin and Laura Belle (Doty) Priestley. He married Patsy Miller on Sept. 8, 1962 in White Lake. He was retired from GM after 36 years of service. Farming was his true love. Surviving are his wife Patsy; 2 daughters Deborah (Michael) Vanderlip of Fenton and Jill (Tony) Kaczor of Pinckney; 6 grandchildren, Michael and Shannon Hojna, Andrew and Alex Kaczor, and Lauren and Josh Vanderlip; 1 great-granddaughter Kaiden Vanderlip; father Franklin Priestley of Milford; brother Clifford (Fran) Priestley of Highland; sister Nancy (Robert) Fisher of IL; and his special kitty Sadie; He was preceded in death by his mother Laura Belle and brother John. Gilbert "James" Botham, age 75 of Swartz Creek, formerly of Berkley died Tues. May 1, 2007. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Sat. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus of Clawson, and the American Legion. Larry J. Worthington, age 66 of Holly died Fri. April 27, 2007. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Mon. April 30, 2007 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor M. Jean Love officiating. Mr. Worthington was born in Flint on Sept. 23, 1940 the son of Louis and Velma (Moshier) Worthington. He was a retired truck driver after 40 years of service. Surviving are 3 children, John (Pamela) Worthington of Waterford, James (Pamela) Worthington of Holly, and Cynthia (Mark) Perkins of Holly; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; 3 brothers; and 1 sister. Michael D. Gottschalk, age 60 of Roseville died Tues. April 17, 2007. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Mon. Mr. Gottschalk was born in Detroit on March 8, 1947 the son of the late William and Patricia (Schoenbeck) Gottschalk. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the VFW. He had a love for painting and drawing. Norman Alexander McKay, age 87 of Holly died Tues. April 10, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Holly, with Pastor Bobby G. Hopkins officiating. Burial and military honors will be in Great National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 3-9 P.M. Thursday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. McKay was born in South Meadow, North Dakota on Dec. 18, 1919 the son of Alexander and Helen (Tattersall) McKay. He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps from Jan. 1942 until Aug. 1945. He married Winona Fay Bigelow on June 18, 1948 in Holly. They resided in Holly until moving to Ocala, FL in 1983 and then returned to Holly in 2005. He retired as a brick layer for Jones & Simpson Mason Contractors and was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Holly. Surviving are his children Leslie Osmon, Mary (Steve) Duncan, and Norma (Terry) Sizemore; grandchildren, Rachel (Bob) Davies, Bridgett (Billy) Butka, Heather (Brad) Peters, Rachel (Mark) Spruell, Melanie (Joe) Peterson, Jared (Holly) Duncan, Micah Duncan, Alex Sizemore, Andrea (Aaron) Hines, and Ann Jepson; great-grandchildren; Thomas and Erica Davies, William and Paxton Butka, Gavin and Emileigh Peters, Sydne Jepson, Malachi, Chloe, Madelynn, and Jeremiah Peterson, Emma and Evan Spruell, and Lillian Duncan.
