BARBARA A. SHUCK , age 77, died Sun. Dec. 3, 2006 at her home in Holly. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wed. Dec. 6 at the Dryer Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Visitation will be on Tues. Dec 5 from 2-9 P.M. Mrs. Shuck was born on Oct. 16, 1929 the daughter of Guy and Myra (Shultz) Harding. She was a member of the Holly Optimist Club, DDA, worked with the Holly Can-do organization, and also a member of the N.W.O.C. Historical Society. Barb was greatly loved and will be missed by many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Max and granddaughter Sarah Burt. Surviving are 4 children, Danny (Betty) Burt of Bridgeport, Michael (Brenda) Shuck of Holly, Cindy (David) Hodge of Flint and Susan (Lynn) Holt of IN; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Harding of Holly and Lee Harding of FL; Aunt Grace of Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the family.

Donna L. Welch, age 80, formerly of Goodrich died Sun. March 7, 2010 in Punta Gorda, FL. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Sat. May 8, 2010 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Rev. Jeff Miller officiating.Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Welch was born in Flint on June 19, 1929 the daughter of Frederick and Mildred (Hoffman) Evans. She loved to read and always had a book in her hands. She is survived by her husband Earl Welch; 2 children, David Welch and Gaynelle Fisher of Holly; 2 grandchildren, Alaina (Brian Evans) Fisher of Whitmore Lake, Mi and Dustin (Ashley) Fisher of Holland, MI; and sister Anna Mae (George) Calugaru of Clio. She was preceded in death by her brother Bernie Evans and sister Charlene Hyder.

Ronald Jack Silvernail Sr., age 78 of Fenton died Mon. April 26, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Sat. May 1, 2010 at the Holly Seventh Day Adventist Church, with Pastor Eric Rodgers officiating. Military honors and intermenty will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly on Friday, May 28, 2010. Mr. Silvernail was born in Royal Oak on Aug. 21, 1931 the son of Ray and Delores Fern (Ostrander) Silvernail. He was retired from the Michigan General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists as a speaker and representative of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a member of the Holly/Linden Seventh Day Adventist Churches. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; 4 children, Ronald Jack Silvernail Jr. of Holly, Ray John Silvernail of NM, Retha June Silvernail of NC and Randy Joel Silvernail of Tecumseh, MI; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Wilbur LaVern Silvernail of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister Bernice Silvernail. Memorial donations may be given to the family. .

Allen E. Gottschalk passed away April 23, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Wed. April 28, 2010 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Max Hayden officiating. Military Honors and Inurnment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Tues. Allen was married to Sandra Duranceau in 1963. He is survived by his wife Sandra; two daughters, Malinda and Andrea Gottschalk; son Wade (Nina) Gottschalk; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Joey, and Amy; three great-grandchildren, Abby, Logan, and Megan; sister BettyMae (Robert) Iaun; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Gottschalk, his mother Alice Hankey, and brother Lee Gottschalk. He lived a full life for which he was grateful and had many memories to cherish. He was born in Edgar, WI and graduated from Edgar High School. He served four years in the Air Force. He grew up working in the construction industry doing highway and road construction, sewer, pipeline, and dredging. When he discovered he could turn bowls out of salvaged wood he was pleased to be able to give them to family members and friends. His family is extremely proud of his accomplishments. Allen, rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Genesys Hospice. Special thanks to Genesys Hospice for the wonderful care given to Allen.

Mary M. Moss, age 66 of Holly died Mon. April 12, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Sat. April 17, 2010 at St. Rita Catholic Church of Holly with Father David Blazek, Celebrant. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 4-9 PM Friday with a Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM Friday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mrs. Moss was born in Cullman, AL on Sept. 8, 1943 the daughter of Donald and Josephine (Richard) Lawrence. She was a loving mother and a kind, caring, and giving person. She is survived by 3 children, Kenneth Florida of FL, Richard Moss of FL, and Brigitte (Rich) Ahonen of Holly; sister Martha Jo Plamondon of Grand Blanc; former husband Perry Moss of Flushing; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother James Lawrence. Memorial donations may be given to the family.

Wayne Kenneth Cox, age 41, of Holly died Sat. April 3, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sat. April 10, 2010 at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM Sat. at the White Chapel Cemetery Chapel of Flowers. Mr. Cox was born in Detroit on Jan. 26, 1969 the son of Bernard and Charlene (McNaughton) Cox. He was the former owner of C&N Masonry. He loved his work, the outdoors, camping, canoeing, quads and motorcycles. He especially loved his family and children. He is survived by his daughter Taylor Rose Nelson of Pontiac; his fiancée`and love of his life Sylvia Cheeseman of Springfield Twp.; parents Bernard and Charlene Cox of Holly; sister and best friend Deanna Cox of Waterford, sister sue Prys of Holland, MI., sister Lana Rose of FL; nephews Joshua Miles-Cox, Quinton Prys, Coulton Prys, Ronnie Rose, and Steven Rose; niece baby Kylie McCart; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Duane Joseph Raffin, age 76 of Holly died at home with his family on March 29, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Mon. April 5, 2010 at St. Rita Catholic Church of Holly with Father David Blazek officiating. Burial and military honors will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 3-9 PM Friday and 2-9 PM Saturday and a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Friday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. Raffin was born on March 13, 1934 in Iron Mountain, MI the son of the late Erminio and Margaret (Nardi) Raffin. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1952 and served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He graduated with a BA Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan in 1961 and earned his MA Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan in 1971. He taught English, American Literature, and Greek Mythology at Holly High School from 1961-1990. He also taught English at Oakland University and Mott Community College from 1990-2010. During his career at Holly High School, he coached football from 1961-1965, track from 1961-1990, and croos country from 1966-1998. Coach Raffin's track and cross country teams won 4 State Championships, 9 regional titles, and 35 league titles. His coaching prowess earned him the 1971 MITCA Track Coach of the Year, 1978, 1979, and 1991 MITCA Cross Country Coach of the Year, and 1976 and 1978 National Coach of the Year. In 1982 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Michigan High School Coaches and in 1991 he was inducted into the Holly Athletic Hall of Fame and the MITCA Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Cleary) Raffin who he married on Oct. 20, 1956; 4 children, Christina Milkowski of Waterford, Diann (Donald) Davis of NY, NY, Paul (Nancy) Raffin of Fenton, and Michael (Erika) Raffin of Jackson; 2 granddaughters Rachel Milkowski of Waterford and Juliana Raffin of Jackson; sister Janice (Joseph) Santi of Iron Mountain; 3 nephews, 2 nieces, and brother-in-law David Cleary of Elephant Butte, NM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Coach Raffin Scholarship Fund which was established in 2008 to award Holly High School Cross Country and Track and Field athletes who embody the values that Coach Raffin instilled - hard work, perseverence, and maintenance of a positive mental attitude. Donald Eugene Johnson, age 83 of Lapeer died Wed. March 24, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Friday. Military honors and burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Mr. Johnson was born in Indianapolis, IN on Dec.. 23, 1926 the son of Floyd and Lena Mae (Cummings) Johnson. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment as a part of the Japan occupational troops. He was retired from Pontiac Motors and was the owner of Johnson Specialty Co. of Lapeer. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Lapeer. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth; 5 children, James William Johnson of CA, Virginia (Mark) Martin of Holly, David Johnson of Milford, Sherrie (Arthur) White of Lapeer, and Diana (Paul) Kosha of Lapeer; 10 grandchildren, Ben, Naomi, Philip, Aimee, Kyle, Sean, Amber, Tambra, Thomas, and Timothy; 7 great-grandchildren, Douglas, Marcus, Caleb, Tobyn, Abel, Genevieve, and Andrew; and 9 brothers and sisters. Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Children's Fund or Katie's Wings of Lapeer.

James Whitfield Colt, age 91 of Fenton, formerly of Buffalo, NY and Leesburg, FL died Sun. March 21, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly, MI. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Military honors and inurnment will be at 2 PM Tursday, March 25 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Mr. Colt was born in Lancaster, NY the son of James and Grace (Zuidema) Colt. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in North Africa and Italy. He worked for 56 years as a pharmacist and owner of Ward's Pharmacy in Buffalo, NY. After retiring in 1991, he moved to Florida. He was a avid sports fan all his life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth; 4 children, James R. (Debra) Colt of Clarence, NY, David E. (Susan) Colt of Colorado Springs, CO, Beth (Dan) Hunter of Fenton, MI, and Thomas W. (Kristine) Colt of Phoenix, AZ; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and brother John Z. Colt of Williamsville, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dana. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Nancy L. Munson, age 68 of Grand Blanc, formerly of Holly died Sat. March 20, 2010. A memorial services will be held at a later date. Mrs. Munson was born in Cincinnati, OH on July 28, 1941 the daughter of Alex and Eileen (Smith) Martin. She was a dedicated LPN who loved her work with giving hearing and vision tests to children. She was a former employee of Clinton Valley Hospital. She is survived by her sister Marlene Chapman of Pontiac and her husband of over 40 years Dennis Munson of Holly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Clifford Chapman.

Joseph G. Ponton, age 84 of Holly died Friday. March 19, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Mon. March 22, 2010 at the Holly Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Robertson and Rev. Ann Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills, MI. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Sunday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. Ponton was born in Detroit on June 14, 1925 the son of William and Mildred (Smith) Ponton. He was retired from the Warren Consolidated Schools. He was a member of the Holly Presbyterian Church & was an active volunteer with Christmas In Action. His special interests were his grandchildren, the Detroit Tigers, fishing, and gardening. Surviving are his wife Beverly; 6 children, Cliff (Lois) Ponton, Michael (Sue) Ponton, Jeffrey (Michelle) Ponton, Renee (Jerry) Green, Cheryl (Douglas) Huffman, and Lorna (Norm) Powell; 12 grandchildren, Karen, Mandy, Jessica, Debra, Paul, Jennifer, Stephanie, Katie, Libby, Kyle, Ashley, and Mike; 7 great-grandchildren, Delaney, Samantha, Kelsey, Andrew, John Allen, Kamryn, and Cameron; brother James Ponton; and sister Thelma Mellas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Avalon Hospice.
