Willard Shirley Walls, age 99, of Davisburg died Sun. Dec. 20, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wed. Dec. 23, 2009 at the Davisburg United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Tues. at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. Walls was born in Davisburg on Feb. 10, 1910 the son of Willard and Retta (Wilds) Walls. He was an active member of the Davisburg United Methodist Church, and he lived his faith every day. He was also an active member of the Davisburg Rotary. He is survived by his daughter Sandy (David) Thornberry of GA; grandchildren, Kirk Nowery of Davisburg, Craig Thornberry of Washington D.C., and Jeanne Morgan of S.C. Margaret L. Purves, age 67; born on January 17, 1942 in Melrose Park, IL and passed away on December 10, 2009 at 9:43 p.m. in Crittenton Hospital, Rochester , after a five year courageous battle with breast cancer. Loving wife and best friend of William for 27 years. She dearly loved her sons, stepchildren, grandchildren, sisters, and husband. Loving mother of Steven and Jason (Shannon) Slater. Stepmother to Timothy (Nina) Purves, Lisa (James) Harner, & Laura Purves. Margaret was a dedicated mother & stepmother. Sister and dear friend to Shirley (James) Williams and Sharon (Gene) Whitehorn of the Chicago area. Also leaves behind several cousins. Daughter of the late Louis and Naida (Logan) Kowell. Margaret was a graduate of Rosary College, River Forest, IL. She was a school teacher for many years in Livonia, Port Huron, and Lapeer school districts. She and William were married for 25 years and resided in Springfield Twp., Oakland Co., MI. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at 11 AM at Dryer Funeral Home (248) 634-8291 in Holly, MI. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Dec 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, Dec 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Dean Craig Register, Captain, United States Air Force; retired from military service after over 20 years of service in the United States Navy and United States Air Force. Dean was born July 12, 1945 and passed away December 7, 2009 after over three years of valiantly fighting cancer, maintaining his incredible sense of humor right up through his last day. Dean is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lynda M. Register, sons Kenneth Register (fiancée Michele Kos) and Corporal Ryan Register, U.S. Marine Corps (wife Megan) and one grandson, Connor Register. Dean was a wonderful husband and father and was honored to serve his country for so many years. He will forever remain in the hearts of his wife and sons. Mrs. Larson was born in Holly on Nov. 28, 1920 the daughter of L.C. and Clara (Parker) Scramlin. She was a 1939 graduate of Holly High School and was a school bus driver for Holly Schools for 16 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fenton. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Larson of Scottsville, AZ; nephews Dick (Shirley) Scramlin of Holly, Larry (Linda) Scramlin of Lake Orion, Marvin (Terrie) Scramlin of Holly, and L.C. (Jackie) Scramlin of Holly; niece Donna (Russ) Hubbard of Grayling. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Larson, daughter Sandy Yates, and brother William Scramlin. Guido P. DiMambro., age 78 died Sat. Nov. 7. Beloved husband of the late Sharon; dear father of Ann (Paul) Pegram, David DiMambro and John DiMambro; grandfather of Katelin and Jenna; brother of Mary Colasanti, the late Vincent, the late Mario, and the late Alex. He was a former Michigan light weight boxing champion, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a retiree from the Detroit News. Visitation 2-8 P.M. Wed and funeral services 10:30 A.M. Nellie "June" McWhirter. Mrs. Dwight McWhirter passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 27, 2009 at her home (Young at Heart) in Holly, Michigan at the age of 89 years. June Henschel was born on February 5, 1920 to Charles Jacob Henschel and Margaret Mae Sullenberger, in Hostetter, Pennsylvania. She was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served as a nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. during WWII. She was married to Dwight Evans McWhirter on Oct. 5, 1957 in East McKeesport, PA. The family moved to Livonia, Michigan in 1961 and were members of the Emmanuel Lutheran church in Livonia. June was a retired nurse from Botsford Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Edith Prioletto, and half-brother Robert Henschel. Among those who loved her, and are left to mourn her loss are three children; Janice (Thomas) Larson of Phoenix, AZ, Craig (Tracy) McWhirter of Highland Twp., and Beverly (Steven) McLaughlin of South Lyon Twp.; Granddaughter Kenden Phillips, Step-Grandson Kevin Wright and Grandson's Evan and Patrick McLaughlin; two half-sisters Helen Bordas, and Mary Jane Buttermore. Services will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI on Nov. 9 at 11 AM with Pastor Walter Dickinson. A luncheon at the Historic Holly Hotel will Immediately follow. Ruth H. Willett, age 84 of Holly died Wed. Oct. 21, 2009. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Mon. Oct. 26, 2009 at the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Fenton with Father David Harvey, Celebrant. Mrs. Willett will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral. Mrs. Willett was born in Newark, New Jersey on Nov. 15, 1924 the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Rivers) Feuling. She was a teacher for many years in Farmington and Ypsilanti, and she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She loved cats and was a supporter of the Michigan Humane Society. She is survived by her 3 children, Donna (Tom) Blasko of AZ, Hugh (Jennifer) Willett of Grass Lake, MI, and JoAnn (Clyde) Allen of Saline; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law Jim Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Willett, daughter Jackie Hansen, and son Thomas Manzi. Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
Thomas W. Cox Jr., age 72 of Fenton, formerly of Holly died Sat. Oct. 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thurs., Oct. 22, 2009 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Burial will be in Square Lake Cemetery, Orion Twp. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Tues. and Wed. Mr. Cox was born in Detroit on June 20, 1937 the son of Thomas and Laura (Willhite) Cox. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army 101st Airborne Division. He retired from the GM Lake Orion Plant after 42 years of service. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn; dear father of Thomas (Darlene) Cox III of Oxford, Christina (Shane) Fisher of KY, and Brian Cox of MI; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Carl, Georgiann, JoAnn, Laura, Pat, and Nikki. Memorial donations may be given to the family.
