Margaret J. "Peggy" Timpf, age 53 of Highland died Tues. Oct. 13, 2009. She was born in Pontiac on March 15, 1956 the daughter of George and Barbara (Ward) Timpf. She was retired from P.O.H. where she was the head cook. She was also a school bus driver for the Huron Valley Schools and was a volunteer with the Highland Township Adult Activity Center. She was independent, caring, giving, and head strong, and was lovingly devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband Timothy Moulder; step-children, Candice and Timothy J. Moulder; parents George and Barbara Timpf of Fl; brothers Bob Timpf of Milford and George Timpf of Union Lake; sisters Kathy Milavich of Mancelona and Wendy Pickard of FL. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Lawrence R. Colby, Born Oct. 30, 1920 to Rohlin and Neva Colby in Keego Harbor, Mi. He graduated from Keego Harbor School. He proudly joined the Marines to fight in World War II. His father was a vetern of World War I. Larry was in the Second Raiders Battalion, ?Rogers Raiders? Group in the Pacific Islands. They were a self sustaining unit. He once made an amphibious jeep on one island and was elected to go to Officer Training but did not get on the plane and it went down with all lost. He was an avid motorcyclist. He was the first person to have a motorcycle on one of the Pacific Islands he was on. After the war he came back to work as a heavy equipment mechanic. He worked for numerous companies in Detroit and one in New Jersey and for Ryder Truck in Pontiac. He invented a gypsum pump machine and was also a welder, fabricator and great car mechanic. He would help some one and ask them not to pay him back but to help someone else instead. He was married to Helen Hart Walles on May 7, 1969. She died on Oct. 7, 2000. He has been married to Betty J. Coy-Arvin Colby, his present wife, since Nov. 5, 2001. She has done much to keep him going and kept the family together. Larry was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and Am. Legion Post #149. After a sudden illness he went to be with the LORD on Sat. night, Oct. 10, 2009. He is survived by his wife Betty; her children, Christian (Kate) Clarke of Holly, Cathy (Ed) Ryan of Orangefield, CA, Connie Clarke of Carmel, CA, Cherie (Paul) Rashid of Pickney, Christine Palmer of Holly; other step-children are Bev (John) Lisee of Rancho Mirage, CA, Pat Gilbert of Clarkston, Deb Walles of Dallas, TX, and Jerry Walles of Reklaw, TX. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by family and friends. Visitation will be at Dryer Funeral Home, 101 First St., Holly from 2-9 PM on Tues. Oct. 13, 2009. The funeral service will be at the Herritage Baptist Church of Grand Blanc Wed. Oct. 14, 2009 11 AM. The Pastor Carl Petty will be officiating. Interment will be at the Pine Lake Cemetery in West Bloomfield. Elsie Kienzle, age 85 of Holly died Wed. Sept. 2, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wed. Sept. 9, 2009 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-9 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Kienzle was born in England on Dec. 8, 1923 the daughter of Samuel and Nesta (Fisher) James. During WWII, she served in civil defense in England and helped build bombers in Yeadon, England. She immigrated to the US at the age of 32, and she worked as an accountant in Holly unitl she retired in 1985. She was an avid golfer and card player, and she loved to travel and go to casinos. She was a former member of the Sweet Adelines of Fenton. Surviving are her daughter Pam Knapp of Fenton; 3 grandchildren, Ann (John) Kotalik of Holly, Alan (Amy) Knapp of Davisburg, and Andrew (Dana) Knapp of Holly; 6 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Heather, and Katelyn Kotalik, Haley and Abigail Knapp, and Zachary Knapp; and great-great-grandson Mason. Devona E. Nelson, age 93 of Oscoda, formerly of Holly died Sun. Aug. 30, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Wed. She was a longtime member and elder in the Presbyterian Church of Holly, and Harrisville, and currently with the Fenton Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her 5 children, Nancy (Ron) Yokom of Harrisville, Carolyn Mills of Oscoda, Bob (Patricia) Nelson of Holly, Jeannie Lewis of Manistee, and Linda (Tim) Burns of Holly; 11 grandchildren, Sandy Kuohn, Steve Yokom, Tim Mills, Jim Mills, Brandy Nelson, Pollyanna Lucas, Ty Lewis, Shannon Simoneau, Chris Strokis, Cindy Bredernitz, and Casandra Nigl; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Flossie Walker of NC; and several nieces and nephews. Roger Michael Allen. Mike went home to heaven on Aug. 19, 2009 at the age of 73. He leaves his beloved bride of 51 years, Pat; 4 children, Teri (Ken) Whitehead, David (Pattie), Sharon Dunn, and Dan; 8 grandchildren, Shannon Mull, Jason (Lisa) Jones, Chris (Sara) Jones, Mitchell and Wayne Allen, Joseph Dunn, and Amanda and Alex Allen; 4 great-grandchildren, Merisa Candic, Emma and Sara Mull, and Christopher Carl. Barbara R. Palid, age 95 of Holly died Mon. Aug. 17, 2009. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at St. Rita Catholic Church of Holly with Father David Blazek, Celebrant. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 3-9 P.M. Mrs. Palid was born in Jackson, Michigan on Aug. 13, 1914 the daughter of William and Genevieve (McQuillan) Meade. She married Joseph Palid Sr. on April 14, 1945 and was a registered nurse and teacher. She was a former member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church of Flint. She was currently a member of St. Rita Catholic Church of Holly and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid bridge player, and she enjoyed playing in several area bridge clubs. Surviving are 6 children, Kathleen (Bernard) Crain of CA, Joseph (Maryann) Palid Jr. of Grand Blanc, Meade (Alan Neff) Palidofsky of IL, John Palid of Lansing, Chuck (Beth) Palid of IL, and Mari of Davisburg; 9 grandchildren, Marc, Joseph, Christopher, Nicole, Michelle, Lucas, Liam, Benjamin, and Mary; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; and brothers and sisters William Meade, Margaret Stack, Lillian Glaser, Winston Meade and Robert Meade. Donald Leroy Lanning, born in Fenton on November 2, 1935, died at Dallas Medical City Hospital on December 12, 2009, following a long illness. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Davis; his son-in-law, Ronnie Davis and his beloved granddaughter, Sophia Diana Frances Davis. He is also survived by three brothers, Robert Lanning, Arnold Lanning and Larry Lanning; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was pre-deceased by his wife Marilyn (Jean) Temming Lanning, his sister Beverly Clark and his brother William Lanning, as well as his parents, William and Frances (Feley) Lanning. During his youth, Donald took great joy in helping his father at the family’s gas station in Fenton, playing in the river that ran beside their house and raising pigeons. After serving in the U.S. Army, including a stint in Korea, Donald returned to Michigan. Donald went to work for General Motors at the V-8 Engine Plant in Flint, where he worked until his retirement in 1982. In 1956, Donald married Marilyn and they were soon joined by their daughter, Victoria. Donald was known to all for the great joy he took in playing Santa Claus for anyone who asked. Even when not in his Santa suit, his long white beard and twinkling blue eyes meant that he was approached by excited children wherever he went. For many years he carried Santa stickers to hand out to the children who came over to talk to him. Donald was once featured in a Flint Journal article for his role as Santa.Donald’s favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing and hunting. Donald attended the Linden Presbyterian Church and later the Tyrone Presbyterian Church in Fenton. Donald, Marilyn and their daughter enjoyed traveling and visited most parts of the country in their motor home. They camped for many years with the White Pines Travel Club. After retirement they purchased a home in Port Aransas Texas, where Donald loved to fish and watch ships and marine life in the nearby shipping channel and took great joy in driving on the local beaches. Donald is sadly missed by family and friends in Michigan and Texas. Visitation will be held at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly, Michigan on August 9, 2009 from 3 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Dryer Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 10:30 am, followed by a graveside service at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

She was a former member of the Holly Volunteer Ambulance. She is survived by her husband Paul; 3 children, Paula (Jeff) Hartman of White Lake, Lynn Whitefoot of Holly, and Dave Duff of FL; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Pat (Chuck) Prose of Holly and Betty (Don) Creech of Davisburg. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Graham and her brothers Carl and Bill Graham. Memorial donations may be made to Cranbrook Hospice.
Junior S. "Jay" Blue, age 93 of Grand Blanc died Sun. Aug. 2, 2009. Mr. Blue was born in Flint on June 11, 1916 the son of John and Hattie (Sauber) Blue. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He was the former Postmaster of the Columbiaville Post Office. He is survived by his brother Don Blue of Grand Blanc; daughter-in-law Kathy Blue of Burton; nephew and family Greg and Linda Blue and Logan and Hannah; niece Emily and John Siler and daughter Elizabeth and Chris Wise; other nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Faye Metz of MD and Polly and John Hendel of AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy in 2006, son John in 2004, and sister-in-law Rachel Blue. Private family services will be held.
