Calvin R. McFadden, age 68 of Holly died Sun. Sept. 21, 2008. He was born in Detroit on Feb. 6, 1940 the son of Calvin and Beatrice (Deittrick) McFadden. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957, and then served in the US Army. He was a former employee of Soltis Plastics and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He is survived by 2 sons, Tim McFadden of Orion and Mark McFadden of Holly; brothers and sisters Connie House of Milford, Judy McGee of Highland, Terry Neuendorf of Fenton, Claudette Grabowski, Cynthia Pelletier, Cheryl Mannarino, Carl McFadden, the late Rachel Sutton, Christopher McFadden, and Peter McFadden; many nieces and nephews; and companion and dog, Princess. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Wed. Sept. 24 at the Dryer Funeral Home Holly. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Frances D. (Carnes) Lotridge, age 74 of Holly died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Hal Phillips and Mr. Robert Somers officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. Lotridge was born in Rapid City, SD on Oct. 5, 1933. Her special interests were gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a caregiver her whole life. Surviving are 6 children, Elton (Debbie) Carnes Jr. of Rhoades, MI, William (Loretta) Carnes of Clarkston, Joseph (Cheryl) Carnes of Flint, James (Pamela) Carnes of Flint, Connie (Chris) Piascik of Holly, and Matthew (Julieann) Lotridge of Lapeer; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 step-children, Marcella Criner and Joe (Mary) Lotridge; 3 sisters, Donna, Eleanor (Tippy) and Eva, and her brother John. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her brother Pete, and her grandson Jeff.
Gerald R. Brewer, age 75 of Holly died Sat. Sept. 13, 2008. Graveside services and Military Honors will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 19, 2008 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Mr. Brewer was born in Detroit on Feb. 22, 1933 the son of Rhyne and Josephine (Lendo) Brewer. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker. He was a life member of the Fenton VFW, a member of Holly American Legion and a classic car enthusiast. Surviving are his wife Patricia; 3 children, Charlene (Bill) Hillman of Holly, Steven (Stephanie) Brewer of Holly, and Paul (Doddi) Brewer of Holly; step-children, Kristina (Bob) Hedges of Fruitport, David (Linda) Stevens of KY, and Jeff Harp of Holly; grandchildren, Matthew, Reed, Erica, Brad, Adam, Heather, Kevin, Mary, and Paul. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Snyder, John Francis age 75 of Clinton Twp. died peacefully Sept. 13. Dear brother of Therese McDonald, Cecilia Roll, Mary Flynn, the late Davis Snyder, and the late Mary Margaret Nemes; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Graveside services and military honors will be 11:00 A.M. Thurs. Sept. 18 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
Kathleen M. Russell, age 76, formerly of Ortonville, died Fri. Sept. 12, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Mon. Sept. 15, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Father Tim McDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Sunday. Mrs. Russell was born in Detroit on Nov. 30, 1931 the daughter of Alexander and Pauline (Koslowski) Sulecki. She is survived by 3 children, Michelle Decker of Grand Blanc, Harold Russell of Flint, and Mark Russell of Holly; 7 grandchildren, Amanda, Elizabeth, Aubrey, Ryan, Matthew, Jessica, and Jacob; and 1 great-grandson Nathan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Tom and James Sulecki. The family gives special thanks to the staff at Crestmont Health Care for their special care. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Samuel M. Wright, age 94 of Middleville, MI, formerly of Holly, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Rev. Randy Cullen officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. Thursday. A Masonic Memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday. Mr. Wright was born in Billings, Montana on Aug. 22, 1914 the son of Samuel and Nancy (McDaniel) Wright. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and as a young man he won medals for sharp shooting. He was the former owner of Sinclair and Mobil Oil Supply Companies in Holly for over 30 years. He was a member of the Holly Lodge #134 F&AM and was a past-president of the Holly Kiwanis Club and a former trustee of the Holly Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife Gertrude; 2 children, Jackie (Jim) Schnackenberg of Hastings and Gil "Buzz"(Lynne Haggard) Wright of Manhattan Beach, CA ; 3 grandchildren, Max Wright of CA, Ryan Schnackenberg of MI, and Matt Schnackenberg of MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Cleo Steward and Carra Sheets. Memorial donations may be made to the Audubon Society.
Doris Allison Bos died peacefully at Odyssey Hospice in Southfield, MI on August 24, 2008. Doris was born on January 5, 1918, in Elva, Manitoba, Canada. She married the Reverend Dr. William Bos at the Holly Presbyterian Church. They made their home in North Carolina, Oregon. Doris returned to Michigan documenting air traffic. She resigned her commission when her brother was sent overseas and her father stated he did not want two of his children in harm's way. Doris is survived by her sister Devona Walker Nelson, sister-in-law Florence Smith Walker, and her nephew and nieces Robert Nelson, Nancy Yokom, Carolyn Mills, Jeanne Lewis, Linda Burns, Kathryn House, Judy Packer, and Patricia Moody. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Bill Bos, parents William and Jennie Walker, brothers James and Lloyd Walker, and one niece Barbara Walker Hill. We wish to thank the staff at Abbey Park of Grand Blanc, Sunrise of Clarkston, and Odyssey Hospice of Southfield for their wonderful and caring acts of kindness. She will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Nancy A. (VanLeuven) Lanning, age 68 of Holly died Sunday, August 24, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Tuesday. Mrs. Lanning was born in Davisburg on June 20, 1940 the daughter of Earl and Anne (Schweier) VanLeuven. She graduated from Holly High School in 1958 and was a former employee of Kraftwood Engineering of Walled Lake. Her special loves were her grandchildren, flowers, and animals. She is survived by 2 children, Lynette Scaffede of Byron and Jeffrey Lanning of Holly; 3 grandchildren, Zachary, Lindsey, and Curtis; brothers and sisters, Edward (Deneen) VanLeuven of Davisburg, Rachel Pearsall of Holly, George (Annie) VanLeuven of Rose City, and Rose Marie (James) Gleason of Byron; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William VanLeuven, and brother-in-law Charles Pearsall.
Herman C. Bazner, age 93 died Aug. 20, 2008. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany on March 18, 1915. He came to the US in 1927 and attended Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit. He worked for Plymouth before WWII, when he served in the US Army under General Patton as an interpreter and messenger. He then was a bus driver for DSR for 30 years. He is survived by 3 sons Jack, Louis, and Paul Bazner; grandchildren Matt and Brandt Bazner, Connie Betz, Elizabeth Miller, and Christopher Bazner; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence (Hauer); grandson Jay Bazner, brother Albert, and sister Louise Maki. Graveside service 11AM Sat. Ortonville Cemetery. Visitation 5-8 PM Fri. Ruth Byrd, age 98 of Holly died Wed. Aug. 13, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sat. Aug. 23, 2008 at the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Holly, 6303 Grange Hall Rd. Holly, MI 48442. A Family Hour will begin at 12 Noon prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Rose Center Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be from 2-9 P.M. Friday at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly.
