Joseph E. Edgett
Age 58 of Lapeer died December 22, 2007. He was born June 27, 1949 in Lapeer to Frank and Ruth (Hartwell) Edgett. Joseph married Elizabeth Westfall June 14, 1969 in Lapeer. He loved the horse track, lottery tickets, the casino and especially his dog Tip. Joseph was a very hard worker for all of his life and worked for GM Truck and Bus for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth; children, Frank (Tammy) Edgett, Joseph L. Edgett, June Edgett, Tammy (Richard) Gonzalez, Loretta (Scott) Ide, Julie Edgett, Jennifer (Paul) Arnott; grandchildren, L.J., Jessica, Lexi, Frank, Zackery, Bethany, Angela, Katie, Ricky, Tyler, Kyle, Mya and Emily; mother, Ruth Edgett; siblings, Judy White, Jim Edgett, Jerry (Loraine) Edgett, JoAnn Parrott; mother-in-law, Elizabeth June Judd; also many loving nieces and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his father Frank Edgett; brothers, Jack, Jake, Jay, Jess; sister, Jean Myes; son, Simon Edgett; granddaughter, Sarah Dickerson. Lawrence Grue Jr.
Age 83 of Lapeer died November 15, 2007. He was born April 14, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Lawrence and Lillian (Coleman) Grue Sr. He served his country in the Marine Corp during WWII as a B-25 pilot in the South Pacific. Lawrence also served in the Korean War earning numerous combat citations and a distinguished flying cross. On September 6, 1947, he married Helen McPhillips in Lapeer. Lawrence had a life long love of aviation which led to world wide travel, friends and several aviation businesses. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; children, Cheryl (Fabian) Bercegeay, Elizabeth (David) Tarpley, Richard (Joan) Grue, Edward Grue; grandchildren, Robert (Carie), Gregory, Brittany, Richard, Brian, Nicole; Sister, Mary (Chuck) Gramer, Margaret Lennan, Barbara Compton, Diane (Ken) Robinson. Age 69 of Mayfield Township died December 6, 2007. She was a resident at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Serena was born August 16, 1938 in Dixon, Illinois to (the late) Ora and Ethel Flaningam. Age 69 of Harrison formerly of Lapeer died December 31, 2007. Beloved husband of Roberta. Loving father of Sherry (Judd) Vic, Luann, Jami and Tami. Survived also by several step-children and grandchildren. Dear brother of Whanetta (Glenn) Jamison, Norman (Betty), Roland (Nancy) and Don (Judy). Leon A. Lester
Age 79 of Lapeer died December 8, 2007. Born January 1, 1928 in Clifford, MI to (the late) Edward Lester and Nellie (Cole) Lester. On June 19, 1954 he married Peggy Lester and together they cherished 53 years of marriage. Leon was a loving husband and father who loved and enjoyed life. Leon served his country in the United States Army during WWII. After which he work at Oakdale as a Fire Inspector for 30 years. Leon was the ultimate handyman; there was nothing that he couldn’t fix. It was those skills and the Lord that led him to Grace Episcopal Church of Lapeer where he worked as a handyman around the church grounds. Leon was a dedicated church member at Grace Episcopal for 30 years. He was also a member for some time at Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Grand Blanc. Leon is survived by his dear wife, Peggy Lester; son, James (Linda) Lester; grandchildren, Leon James (Helena) Evans, Rebekah (Scott) Michalak, Matthew Lester; great grandchildren, Leon James Jr., Christina, Kelsey, Jelena, Mikayla; also many nieces and nephews. Leon is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Miller and his four brothers. A funeral service was held December 10, 2007 at Grace Episcopal Church of Lapeer. Father William Boli officiated. Cremation immediately followed the services. Memorials to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department are greatly appreciated.
Mary Dolores (Kretsch) Haywood
Age 75 of Metamora passed away on Saturday March 8, 2008. She was born on June 26, 1932 in Detroit to George and Marion (Nelthorpe) Kretsch. She married Richard A. Haywood June 28, 1952. Mary Dolores graduated from Dominican High School and Oakland Community College as a paralegal. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She helped raise most of her 8 grandchildren, Christian (Lindsey) Teter, Todd Stevens, Juan (Daniela) Morales, Philip (Jelena) Seibold, Jacqui (Michael) Kubinec, Nicholas Seibold, Casey Thompson, Nathan Seibold; 3 great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Christian Morales and Keagan Seibold. Mary Dolores is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard; brother, Donald Kretsch of Roseville, MI; sister, Bernadette Zottolo of Harper Woods, MI; daughter, Katherine (Juan) Morales of Stuart, FL; son-in-law, Philip Seibold of Metamora, MI; daughter, Cynthia (Thomas) Thompson of Metamora, MI. Her husband of 55 years said of her, “She was my helpmate, my best friend, my soul mate and the mother of our four girls.” She was preceded in death by her loving daughters, Michelle Anne Teter from Troy and Yvonne Louise Seibold from Metamora. Leonard J. Patykowski Sr.
Age 82, of Lapeer passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008. Leonard was born on July 10, 1925 in McKeesport, PA, to the late Stephen and Margaret (Balewski) Patykowski. He bravely served his country in the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. Navy during World War II and married Margaret Hilts on July 8, 1955 in Detroit. He retired from the Oakdale Regional Center in 1989, completing 18 years of service, he was a member of the VFW and the Odd Fellows, and he also enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. Leonard is the beloved husband of Margaret. Loving father of Leonard (Ronda) Patykowski of Columbiaville, Sandra (Robert) O’Donnell of Attica, Sandra (Ronald) Grosso of Howell, David Hughey of Chesterfield Twp., and Renee`(Daniel) Terlecki of Lapeer. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sons Clyde Hughey and Stephen Ratajczyk. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00, Monday, March 17, 2008 from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Lapeer. Father Douglas J. Terrien will be officiating. Age 97 of Lapeer died March 7, 2008. Helen was a resident of Suncrest Medical Care Facility for many years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd Vreeland. Mark Andrew Jankowski
Age 18 of Metamora. Even though he is gone he is still and always will be loved by his mom and dad, Kim and Tom Jankowski; brother, Michael Jankowski; sister, Meghan Jankowski; grandmother, Barb “Kissy” Pasternack; grandpa and grandma J, Tom and Diana Jankowski; also all his aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed and remembered by many friends and the community. Mark loved summer days on the lake, tubing and water skiing. Sundays at Lions games, even if there was overtime. Drawing, sledding and reading sport illustrated, even issues from the 80’s and 90’s.
