Age 87, of Beverly Hills, died February 7, 2004 at the Hospice of Michigan home in Farmington Hills. Mrs. Rebuck was born on August 7, 1916 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mrs. Rebuck served as Past President of the Auxiliary of the Wayne County Medical Society and her husband, Dr. John Rebuck served as senior associate at Henry Ford Hospital for 40 years before his retirement. The Honorable Judge Patrick J. Brennan
Age 54, died suddenly February 9, 2004 as a result of heart disease at his home in Troy. Judge Brennan was born on July 20, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. Judge Patrick J. Brennan was elected to the Oakland County Circuit Court in November of 2000. Judge Brennan was currently on the Family Division Judges. Judge Brennan was a 1977 graduate of Wayne State University Law School. He also holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Detroit in 1973 and a Bachelor of Arts from Oakland University in 1971. Prior to his election to The Circuit Court, Judge Brennan was in private practice, specializing in civil and criminal litigation in Oakland County for 21 years. Judge Brennan was the only candidate with 23 years of actual civil and criminal trial experience in Circuit Courts throughout Michigan. He also has been appointed as a Circuit Court Mediator and independent arbitrator. Judge Brennan was the only candidate endorsed by the UAW Region 1, and the Michigan Police Legislative Coalition and the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association. Before entering private practice, Judge Brennan was employed as a research attorney for the Oakland County Circuit Court and as a law clerk to then Michigan Supreme Court Justice James L. Ryan. Judge Brennan was a member of the State Bar Association of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, Michigan Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Board of Directors of Crossroads for Youth. Judge Brennan was a 1967 graduate of Brother Rice High School, Bloomfield Hills. Judge Brennan was a track star while at Brother Rice and held the 2 Mile track record for many years. Judge Brennan is survived by his daughters, Erin and Jillian; son, Kevin; mother, Patricia (the late Thomas) Brennan; sister, Fran Brennan (Mark) Pontoni; brothers Peter (Andrea) and John (Diane). Patricia Ann Carline Edward
Age 55, died suddenly April 26, 2004 at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. Patricia was born June 23, 1948 in Ferndale and was raised in Clawson. Patricia is a 1966 graduate of Clawson High School and worked as the Head Receptionist for Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park. She enjoyed; gardening, bingo, playing cards, movies and traveling on cruises, but especially spending time with her grandchildren. Patricia was a generous and kind hearted person and everyone’s “best friend” who always put others before herself. Patricia is survived by her husband, Richard Edward; sons, James and Vernon Edward; mother, Beatrice Carline; grandchildren, Amber and Jason; sisters, Sandra Hackler and Joan Marie Wilhite; brother, John Carline. Barbara Whiting Smith
age 73, of Bloomfield Village, died June 9, 2004, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac. Mrs. Smith was born May 19, 1931, in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Detroit in 1959, after her marriage to Gail Smith, General Director of Advertising and Merchandising at General Motors for 22 years until his retirement in 1981. He died in 1991, and Barbara remained in their Bloomfield Village Home. A longtime volunteer and patron for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and several other local charities, Barbara has been a staunch supporter of IVC Detroit for many years, attending Board meetings, cultural dinners, annual Consular Ball fund-raisers and dinner dances. For her years of service, Barbara was selected as IVC Detroit’s” Special Ambassador”. Very involved in acting, Barbara’s first acting role was as “Becky Thatcher” in a grammar-school production of “Tom Sawyer”. Thanks to a recommendation from her next door neighbor, Valentine Davies, who wrote the Christmas movie classic, “Miracle on 34th Street”, Barbara was a 13 year old when she was picked to play “Fuffy” in “Junior Miss” opposite Peggy Ann Garner. Her comic flair in that film led to a contract with Twentieth Century Fox. She was also featured in nine other movies including “Home Sweet Homicide” with Peggy Ann and Randolph Scott; “Centennial Summer” with Jeanne Crain and Cornel Wilde; “Carnival in Costa Rica” with Dick Haymes and Vera-Ellen; “Beware My Lovely” with Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan; “Dangerous When Wet” with Esther Williams and Fernando Lamas. Three years after “Junior Miss” became a hit movie; Barbara headed the cast of the radio series, featuring Gail Gordon as her father, which ran from 1952 to 1954. A year later Barbara and her sister Margaret headlined a show on CBS, “Those Whiting Girls”, which ran for two years. At that time Barbara and Margaret both were honored with stars on Hollywood Boulevard’s “Walk of Fame”. Survivors include Barbara’s son Richard Whiting Smith, PhD and wife Jody; granddaughter, Naomi Rebecca Smith; stepdaughters Carol (Grant) Hesser and Susan (Phil) Goldman; sister, Margaret Whiting; niece Debbie Whiting and Barbara’s companion, Val Corradi. Cecile LaMontagne Morin
of Southfield, died June 7, 2004, at Providence Hospital, Southfield. Mrs. Morin was born April 18, 1920, in Lac Ste. Jean, Quebec, Canada. Prior to her marriage, she worked in personnel at Chrysler for 7 years in the 1940’s. Mrs. Morin assisted her husband early in his career when he was in the general practice of medicine in Redvers, Saskatchewan. She was founder of the Redvers Women’s Guild, a social group of the women of Redvers community, a member of the Marian High School Mothers Club and the Brother Rice High School Mothers Club. Mrs. Morin’s principle activity was her devotion to the Catholic Church, the Blessed Mother and her family of 6 children and 14 grandchildren. Her final act before dying was praying the rosary with her family and making her act of contrition, moments before taking her last breath. Mrs. Morin is survived by her husband, Dr. Leonard A. Morin and children, Roch (Jacki), Jacqueline (Robert) Siemion, Marcelle (Rick) Barlage , Marc (Kathy), Rochelle (Jim) Kwasnowski and Laurent (Shari). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and her brother, Paul (Bernadette) LaMontagne. Mrs. Morin is preceded in death by her brothers, Albert (Edwina) and Roch LaMontagne.
