Lonsway, Lawrence D.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was 90 years old. Lawrence D. Lonsway was born July 7, 1916 in Carrollton, Mich. to the late John and Olive Cecilia (Wilson) Lonsway. He married Florence Irene Andrews on March 6, 1937. She survives him. They lived most of their working life in Freeland, Mich. He was a dairy farmer for 20 years and also worked at the Chevrolet Service Parts for over 37 years. In 1935 he started to work for General Motors, for 50 cents and hour, at the Grey Iron Foundry. A year later he moved to the Chevrolet Service Parts as a machine repairman. He was a member of St. John the Baptist in Carrolton and then St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland, and lastly at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Saginaw Twp. In the early 40 ‘s he worked to help establish the union in the General Motors plants. He was also on the board of directors of the Credit Union. He retired from the Chevrolet Service Parts in 1972. They sold the cows and the farm that same year so that they could travel. In the winter of 1973 they went on a caravan through Mexico. In 1978 they sold the farm and moved to a home in Lawndale Estates. They, Lawrence and Irene, traveled all over the United States and decided to winter in Texas and for the next 30 years they lived 6 months in Texas and 6 months in Michigan. He loved hunting and fishing with semi-annual trips to Lake Independence in Big Bay, Mich. They worked as catechism teachers at church and in the HOSTS program in Texas. His favorite hobbies were square dancing and reciting such poems as “The Village Blacksmith,” “Song of Hiawatha,” and the “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” Lawrence is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene Lonsway; his children, Lawrence H. (JoAnne) Lonsway of Freeland, Judi (Darrell) Mielke of Saginaw, and John A. (Judy) Lonsway of Flint; 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helena Alburg, Elizabeth Vollmer and Doris Tarras.
Funeral - Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Fr. Loren M. Kalinowski will officiate with burial to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
Visitation - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State), from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Monday, December 6, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper. Age 81 years. Mary K. Schneider was born on July 12, 1923 in Saginaw to the late George and Grace (Manning) Schneider. She married Jim Maine on May 5, 1951 in Saginaw. He survives her. Surviving besides her husband Jim, are three sons and one daughter, Jim M. (Nancy) Maine, De Moines, Iowa; Clifford (Betsy) Maine, East Grand Rapids, Mich.; Dave (Peggy) Maine, Saginaw; Kathleen Maine, Saginaw; eight grandchildren and a sister, Gloria Dirla, Bay City. Mary has now joined her daughter, Gloria Maine in God’s heaven.
Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2004 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Robert Konopa OFM and Rev. James F. Gavit will co-officiate. Following Mary’s wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass. Mallak, Donadee (Donna) L.

Passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 86 years. Donna Demsky was born on April 3, 1920 to the late Arthur and Clarissa (Gale) Demsky. She married Eugene Mallak on September 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1980. Donna graduated from Saginaw High School in 1937 and from Business School in 1939. She was a faithful member of the Catholic faith. Donna was employed in the Production Office at Lufkin Rule for five years and in the Accounts Payable Department at Sears & Roebuck for 38 years. Donna volunteered at the Michigan Community Blood Bank and attended the Deisler Funeral Home and Covenant Medical Center Grief Support Groups.
Donna leaves to cherish her memory a loving and caring daughter, Jeanne Mallak; a dear sister, Jeanette and Jim Anderson; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Demsky, Portland, OR; Lorraine Demsky, New Smyrna, FL; Patricia Demsky, Athen, GA; one brother-in-law, William Hart, West Branch, MI; one adopted sister, Kathy Hummon, Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters: Arthur Jr., Clifford and Vincent Demsky, Dorothy Schofield, Marion Napierala, Patricia Gale Hart, Susanne Demsky, Catherine Joan Demsky and Mary Clarissa Demsky, also a wonderful companion of many years, Donald (Doc) Savage.
Memorial Liturgy: A Memorial Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles, Rev. Emmett L. Marceau will officiate. Following Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Manchester, Jody Ann (Finlan)

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend left our world on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center after a short illness. Jody was born on July 1, 1959, to Mike and Karen Finlan. She married Elmer L. Manchester on March 16, 1985 in Saginaw. He survives her. Also surviving are her six children, Sunshine Steiner, Charles Steiner, Dana Marie Steiner, Loyad J. Manchester, Shannon M. Manchester, Heather Dawn Marie Manchester and one infant son, Josh who was waiting for mama in heaven. Jody Ann also had two brothers and one sister, Charles and Wendy Finlan, Danny and Cathy Finlan and Mrs. Ray (Mickie) Sochacki. Jody also leaves eight wonderful grandchildren whom she loved very much. She was also expecting two additions to the grandchild list this year. Jody had many wonderful friends, who were really an extended family at Walgreen’s drug store located on the corner of Genesee and Hess, where she was employed. Also special people to Jody are, Bob Crandall, Jim and Mary Crandall, Carol Wesolek, Sue Barnes, Debbie Stroble, Brent Harrington and Donna Fobear, whom she loved dearly.
Funeral service will take place at Noon on Monday, April 11, 2005 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Chaplain Carol Wesolek will officiate with intermenty to follow at Buena Vista Township Cemetery. Markey, Muriel H.

Widow of Dr. Francis L. Markey, passed away early Thursday morning, March 3, 2005 at St. Francis Home in Saginaw. Age 85 years. Muriel H. Fisk was born on August 31, 1919 in Saginaw and lived here her entire life. She was employed for Bell Telephone Co. and General Motors early in her life. She married Dr. Francis Markey in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1998. Muriel was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Surviving are her five children: Patricia Markey, Royal Oak; Paul Markey, Ann Hartmann and her husband Gary, Dennis Markey and Frances (Mony) Wolf, all of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Stefan Markey, Charleston, S.C.; Greg Hartmann, San Francisco, Calif.; Matt Hartmann, Saginaw and Michael and Henry Wolf, Saginaw. Muriel is also survived by her two sisters, Irene Fisk, Royal Oak; Rita McColgan, Saginaw; three brothers, Lester and William Fisk, Saginaw and Daniel Fisk, Midland.
All who knew Muriel understood her great enthusiasm for life, love of her family and friends, and most prominently, her tremendous sense of humor. Undaunted by several tragedies in life, she was perpetually optimistic. She had a very engaging personality and always greeted one with a smile. Muriel handled her long illness with grace, dignity and without complaint. She will be dearly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. James Gavit will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Maul, Esther R.

Passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper. Esther Rowena Breautigan was born on August 28 in Reese, Michigan to the late Peter J. and Johanna (Reppuhn) Maul. She married Peter J. Maul on October 17, 1942 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1989. Esther was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are one daughter, Kathy (Charles) Crawford, Saginaw; one granddaughter Kristena Crawford; three sisters and two brothers, Helen Crampton of Boise, Idaho; Elsie Wazny of Saginaw; Michael Breautigan of Hemlock; Arnold Breautigan of Oakley and Lydia Korycki of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Mauro, Bartolomeo “Bart”

Passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Holland, Michigan. Age 92 years. Bartolomeo Mauro was born on August 20,1915 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Vincino and Antonia (Buscarino) Mauro. He married Stella M. Wiercinski on September 7, 1940 in Saginaw. She survives him. Bart was a 1934 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. He owned and operated Bart and Norm’s Service Station on Gratiot and was a member of the Sons of Italy and a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Surviving besides his wife Stella, of 67 years of marriage, are his three children: Giovachino “Jack” (Mary Lou) Mauro, Bartolomeo Mauro Jr. and Ann Marie (Jack) Brummel; three grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Temple, Giovachino “Jack” Mauro II, and Trevor Mauro Brummel; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Jessica Temple and many nieces and nephews. Bart was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Joe and three sisters, Carmella, Josephine and June.
Funeral - Bart’s Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1320 Malzahn Street. Rev. James G. Heller will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Andrew Mausoleum.
