Mooney, Mary Maureen

Passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper. Age 93 years. Mary Maureen Jackson was born June 17, 1914 in Wexford County, MI to the late Ernest and Margaret (Hess) Jackson. She married George Nystrom in Cadillac. He died and she later married John J. Mooney on July 6, 1958 in Cadillac. John predeceased her. Mary had been employed by McCarty, Inc. and retired in 1958. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Surviving is a grandson, Dale and Angela Bailey of St. Charles; one granddaughter, Debra and Michael Bailey of Chicago, IL; six great-grandchildren, Jenilee, Patrick, Erin, Collin and Maureen Bailey and Kyle Donaghy. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and special friends. Besides her parents and her husbands, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma K. Bailey; one sister, Edna (Rolan) Calkin and three brothers, Russell Jackson, John (Mary) Jackson, Harvey (Shirley) Jackson, and Margaret Ann Tarantine. Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Covenant HealthCare Visiting Nurses.
Funeral - Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Fr. Emmett Marceau will officiate with entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum.
Visitation - Friends may call at Deisler Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Muniz, Ralph (Poppy)
Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away Monday morning, March 7, 2005. Age 95 years. Ralph was born September 15, 1909 in El Paso, Texas to the late Jesus & Maria (Medina) Muniz. He was employed by Valley GMC as a mechanic, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the VFW Post #2622.
Surviving is one stepdaughter, Bernadine Gross of Saginaw; one brother, Albert Muniz of Detroit; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one special nephew, Alex and his faithful companion, Ookie. Mr. Muniz was preceded in death by two step-daughters, Rena Federico and Frances Mena and also by ten brothers and sisters. Ralph was also preceded in death in 1992 by his life-long partner of 73 years, Elizabeth Smith-Gross.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church 915 N. Sixth Street. Rev. Ramiro Trejo will officiate. A military service will follow at church under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. Private internment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A vigil service will take place on Wednesday at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Ralph will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass. Murieko Frank C.
Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at his home. Age 93 years. Frank C. Murieko was born May 7, 1913 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Grace (Radzoruriz) Murieko. Frank was a Veteran of WWII, he served in the 1st Wave of the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy Invasion, and his tour also took him through Iceland, Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland. He was a P.O.W. and was highly decorated with a variety of metals including a Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, a Good Conduct Metal and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; a 52-year member of American Legion Post # 439, and the V.F.W. Frank retired from Baker Perkins in the late 70’s after over 30 years of service. He is survived by his son: Frank S. (Janelle) Murieko; grandchildren, Sgt. Kevin (Alisa) Myers, Ln Cpl Jared Murieko, April Murieko, and Justin Murieko; one great granddaughter, Isabel Myers; many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Funeral: Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday; September 6, 2006 at the Deisler Funeral Home. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Military honors will be afforded under the auspices of American Legion Post # 439. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly Mich.

Nagel, Esther C.
Saginaw Township, Michigan
Passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center- Harrison. Age 85 years. Esther C. Gottleber was born on February 8, 1921 in Tawas City, Michigan. She married Calvin C. Nagel on July 24, 1944 in Galveston, Texas. He survives her. Esther was a member of the Lutheran faith. Surviving besides her husband, Calvin are one daughter, Bonnie and Terry Rupp, Saginaw; one son, Fred Nagel and his special friend, Jacque Ecker, all of Saginaw; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristin Rupp, Jason and Cassandra Rupp, Jill Nagel, Fred and Melissa Nagel Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Riley and Nia Rupp, Hannah, Madison, Brooke and Samantha Nagel. Esther was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janet Nagel, three brothers, Orville, Leonard and Milton Gottleber and three sisters, Ruth Uebler, Helen Benz and Martha Oblerder.
Funeral - Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Douglas Kahl will officiate. Friends may call at 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Private committal services will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Ortiz, Carmen Patricia Soto

Passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007 at St. Mary’s of Michigan. Age 62 years. Carmen Patricia Soto was born on August 12, 1945 in Saginaw to Pete and Carmen Soto. She married Daniel Ortiz. Carmen was a 1963 graduate of St. Joseph High School. She was a member of Harvest Assembly of God, where she recently gave her life to the Lord.
Surviving besides her mother, Carmen are a son and two daughters, Daniel (Katherine) Ortiz, Kelly (Mike) Hernandez, and Kim (Felix) Pacheco; eight grandchildren, Adam, Sophia, Ailiana, Maricela, Susille, Gabriella, Korina, and Isabella; two great-grandsons, Angel and Marcelo; a brother, Pete (Sharon) Soto of Brandon, Florida; a sister, Gloria (Sixto) Orozco; a special nephew, Cris Orozco. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Carmen was preceded in death by her father, Pete Soto; a son, David Ortiz; and two brothers, Albert and Arthur Soto.
Funeral - Carmen’s Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Harvest Assembly of God, 625 S. 17th St. Rev. Jerry Flores will officiate. Following Carmen’s wishes cremation will follow.

Ortiz, Guadalupe “Lupe”

Passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at her home. Age 87 years. Guadalupe Gonzalez was born February 18, 1919 to the late Rafael and Julia (Bocanegra) Gonzalez in, Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. She married Abelardo Ortiz on August 30, 1944 in Munger, Michigan. He preceded her in death June 4, 2005. Lupe had been employed by Vlasic Pickle Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are six children; Julian Ortiz Sr., San Antonio Texas; Teresita (Ricardo, Sr.) Lumbreras, Bay City; Abel Ortiz Jr., Saginaw; Jose Ortiz, Saginaw; Elvira (Tony) Rodriguez, Bay City and Pedro (Maria) Ortiz, Wellston Mich. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.
Funeral - Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 902 N. Sixth St. Rev. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Lupe will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A vigil for Lupe will take place 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.

Pacek, Louis J.

Passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 93 years. Louis J. Pacek was born on February 20, 1914 in Sebewaing, Michigan to the late Gasper and Anna (Melaharek) Pacek. He married Frances Konecny on August 28, 1937 in Hemlock. She predeceased him on June 24, 2007. Louis worked for Malleable Iron, retiring in 1980 after 45 years of service. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society, the Knights of Columbus and the U.A.W Local #455. Surviving are his four children, Theodore and Maryann Pacek, Saginaw; Louis and Donna Pacek, St. Charles; Anthony and Phyllis Pacek, Freeland; Frances Therese and Frank Felice, Bay City; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Pasak , Tillie Bohil , Mary Kuk and many nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Dominick Pacek and a sister Anna Rau.
Funeral - Louis’ Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Avenue. Rev. John R. Johnson will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
