Passariello, Louis J.

Passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Bortz Nursing Home in Rose City, MI.. Age 83 years. Louis J. Passariello was born on September 10, 1924 to the late Aniello and Concetta (Carelli) Passariello. Louis was married to his wife of 64 years, Betty A. Packard, on September 11, 1943 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw. She survives him. Louis served in the U. S. Army during World War II and fought at the “Battle of the Bulge” receiving the Purple Heart. Louis also was a Prisoner of War (POW). He owned and operated the Lou Passariello Lawn Care until his retirement. Louis was a charter member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church. He was also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, and the American Legion Post #439. Surviving besides his wife Betty, are two sons and two daughters, Louis R. (Kathleen A.) Passariello of Holt, MI, David A. (Janet) Passariello, Kathleen A. (James) Szczepanik, and Sue Ellen (Robert) Lemanski all of Saginaw, MI; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a brother, John J. (Edyth) Passariello of Saginaw, MI. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral - Louis’ Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1320 Malzahn St. Fr. James G. Heller will officiate with the Rite of Committal in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Military Services conducted under the Auspices of American Legion Post #439.
Visitation - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service honoring Louis will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., under the direction of Pastoral Associate Audrey Wilson.

Pimentel (Tovar), Kathryn Jo

Our beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at her home, age 48 years. Kathryn Jo Pimentel was born on February 4, 1959 in Saginaw, to Thomas and Josephine Tovar. She loved to travel, play cards, shop and care for her family. Kathryn was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving is a son, Ruben Sandoval and his father, Matthew; her mother and father, Thomas and Josephine Tovar; brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Maria) Pimentel, Christine Tovar, Sarah (Frank) Tovar- Zaragoza, Mary Lou Tovar, Edward (Erica) Tovar, Joanne (Keith) Harvey, Deborah (Lamarr) Moore; uncle and aunt, Robert and Mary Soto; 24 nieces and nephews; 6 great nieces and nephews; and many special friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to Lola, the Dialysis Associates, as well as Dr. Andrew Cohen.
Funeral - Kathryn’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2007 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Fr. Ramiro Trejo, OFMCap will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Proux, Minnie M.

Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh, Indiana after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Age 95 years. Minnie was born May 10, 1911 in Hillman, Michigan to Charles and Viola Curtis Buckler. She lived in Sandusky, Michigan before her family moved to Saginaw during her teenage years. Minnie married G. Edward Proux on June 23, 1932, and predeceased her in 1985 after being married over 50 years. Minnie was a member of The First Baptist Church in Saginaw for over 50 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Diaconate, and the Women’s Society. She was also very active in Women’s Circle ministries. Minnie moved with her daughter to Louisville, Kentucky in 2000 to live with one of her grandsons. The family then moved to Newburgh, Indiana in March 2006. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Beverly Jean Simpson, Newburgh, Indiana; two grandchildren, Dr. Mark Edward Simpson, Newburgh, Indiana; Brian David Simpson and his wife Jennifer, Brighton, Colorado; and two great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Christian Simpson and Graham Bennett Simpson, Brighton, Colorado. She is also survived by two brothers, Ray Buckler and wife Lela, Saginaw, and Martin Buckler, Oscoda; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother; Thressa Tank and husband Fred, Sandusky, Verna Webb and husband Oliver, Saginaw, Verneda Schartow and husband Howard, and Earl Buckler and wife Leona, Saginaw.
Funeral - A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Don Verner will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation - Friends may call at the funeral home on Hemmeter from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2006 when the family will be present, and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Reinke, Herbert “Herb” T.

Our loving, gentle father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. Age 94 years. Herbert T. Reinke was born June 11, 1912 in Saginaw to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hartman) Reinke. He married Arlene Ray on November 25, 1939 at Holy Family Rectory in Saginaw. She predeceased him October 20, 1990. Herb was retired from Baker Perkins in 1975 after more than 38 years of service. He then enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family. Herb was also an avid sports fan and was a lifelong member at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Herb is survived by his son, Ron (Karen) Reinke of Livonia; two grandsons, Steve (Nicole) Reinke of Northville, MI and Kevin Reinke of Oyster Bay, NY. Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Reinke was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Reinke and one sister, Mildred Bowers.
Funeral - Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with entombment at Chapel Hill Mausoleum.

Rose Rifkin Levine, age 93 years, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Cartwright Residence. She was born September 23, 1914 to the late Nathan and Ida Vinacow in Detroit, Michigan. She married William Rifkin in 1935, in Toledo, Ohio. William preceded her in death in 1979. In 1983, she married David Levine. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golf, bridge, and walking.
Mrs. Rifkin Levine is survived by four children: Roberta (Joel) Kaplan of Highland Park, IL, James (Judy) Rifkin of Aspen, CO, Larry (Francine) Rifkin of Saginaw, and Bette Levine of New York City; 7 grandchildren: Douglas (Andrea) Kaplan of Highland Park, IL, Robert (Pam) Kaplan of Baltimore, MD, Matthew (Penni) Kaplan of Los Angeles, CA, Andrew (Gillian) Rifkin of Birmingham, MI, Susan (Lee) Spiegler of Golden, CO, David (Jenifer) Rifkin of Saginaw, and Jennifer (David) Jaffe of Saginaw; and 17 great-grandchildren. A very special thank you to caregivers Fee, Mary, and Cruz.
Funeral - A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Interment will follow in Forestlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the timeof service.

Rivera, Rita Ann (Gomez)

Passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at St. Mary’s of Michigan. Age 51 years. Rita Ann Rivera was born on November 23, 1955 in Hart, Michigan to Filomeno and Alice (Kelsey) Rivera. She married Vincent Gomez in 2002 and the two have remained life long friends. Rita was employed at Kmart on Holland in the layaway department for over 20 years. She loved playing bingo, cards, dancing and attended St. George’s Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons, Raymond (Leticia Gomez) Rivera and Carlos (Loretta Moncada) Rivera; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Angelica, and Raymond Jr. Rivera, James and Anthony Ayres, Carlos Jr. and Divicio Rivera; her father and step-mother, Filomeno (Wilma) Rivera; sisters and brothers, Teresa Soto, Celia Rivera, Gilbert Rivera, Filomeno Rivera Jr., Gloria Rivera, Rose Rivera. Rachel Rivera, Steven Cordova, Robert Rivera, and Connie Williams; special friend, Diane Ayres and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and two close cousins, Ginger Rivera and Vivian Johnson. Rita was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Rivera, four brothers, one sister and a great-nephew, Adam Soto.

Rock, Frank A. Jr.

We walked hand in hand for 62 years now one of us walks alone. Frank passed away on Monday, April 4, 2005 at Saginaw Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Age 83 years. Frank A. Rock Jr. was born on April 9, 1921 in Saginaw to the late Frank and Mary (Williams) Rock. He married Margaret Estep on July 25, 1942 in Saginaw. She survives him. Frank was employed with US Graphite, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of service. He served in the US Army during WWII in the E.T.O. Surviving besides his wife Margaret are a daughter, Kathee Lincoln, Lajara, Col.; a son, Frank (Barbara) Rock III, Gaylord, Mich.; six grandchildren, Frank Rock IV, Caleb Rock, Joseph Rock, Benjamin Lincoln, Megan Lincoln, Lauren Bond; six great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Schroeder and many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by a brother John Rock and two sisters, Mary Simrau and Lucille Phelps.
