ELSIE E. SCHLICHT
Mrs. Elsie E. Schlicht of Vassar, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at her granddaughters residence in Vassar. She was 92 years of age.
Mrs. Schlicht was born December 15, 1908 in Fremont Township, the daughter of William and Margaret (Craig) Abernathy. On March 26, 1936 she married Mr. John Schlicht. He preceded her in death in 1962.
Mrs. Schlicht was a life long member of the Vassar United Methodist Church where she was once active in the church's ladies groups. She was also once very active in the American Legion Post #177 Ladies Auxiliary of which several times she held offices such as treasurer and Sergeant at Arms. When her husband John was living they loved attending the North Vassar area Farm Club of which she held various offices. Mrs. Schlicht retired from the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home as a nurses aide.
Surviving are her children, Joan (Sterling) Wright of Homosassa, Florida, Bonnie Hammer of Bloomfield Hills, John L. Schlicht of Vassar, Ruth Ann Hausbeck of Saginaw, Delma Schultz of Vassar; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Norman Guy Sterling; two step-daughters, Miriam Rumford, Florence Jean Stoick; three sisters; one brother; and several sons-in-law.
Funeral service were held Thursday, May 10, 2001 at the Vassar United Methodist Church with intermenty following at the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Pastor Rick Sheppard officiated.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of ones choice.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Chapel for Funerals, Vassar.

RUSSELL E. DONIGAN
Mr. Russell E. Donigan of Vassar, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Cartwright Center V.A. Hospital in Saginaw. He was 74 years of age.
Mr. Donigan was born on September 5, 1926 in Flint, the son of Horace and Olive (Hossler) Donigan. On April 4, 1952 he married Patricia Wild and together they celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Mr. Donigan moved to Vassar in 1994 from Frankenmuth. He had been employed at WNEM TV for 43 years, as an engineer, retiring in 1994. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy. He participated in the Underwater Demolition Team #15 and was a Bronze Star Medal Holder given for Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Frankenmuth Post #2725. He attended Vassar First Baptist Church faithfully.
Surviving is his family, wife, Patricia; two daughters, Elizabeth Cronkright of Iron River, Melissa Donigan of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Allen Williams, David Wargo; three brothers, Lloyd Donigan of Flint, Ralph Donigan of California, Burton Donigan of Florida; one sister, Maxine Shimmons of Mt. Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 7, 2001 at Vassar First Baptist Church with burial following at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiated.
Memorial may be directed to the church or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Chapel for Funerals, Vassar.

CARL E. GLEASON
Mr. Carl E. Gleason of Vassar/Millington died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. He was 83 years of age.
Mr. Gleason was born on June 25, 1917 in Millington, the son of John and Lila (Plummer) Gleason. On October 12, 1946 he married Eleanor Remein and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. In 1972 he retired from Franklin Products Machine Shop where he worked part time as a machinist. Mr. Gleason lived in the Vassar area for 29 years and grew up in Millington. He was very active in baseball, at one time was a boy scout leader and started the first scouting troop in Millington. He was known in Millington as "The Kid." Mr. Gleason was a veteran of WWII and served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist Mate.
Surviving is his family, his wife, Eleanor; four children and their spouses, Sharon and Roger Stackhouse of Woodhaven, Linda and Bruce Mitchell of Vassar, RuthAnn and Brian Bush of Livonia, Douglas and Janey Gleason of Vassar; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, seven brothers and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, 2001 at the Vassar First Baptist Church with burial following at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiated.
Memorials may be directed to Gideons International.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Chapel for Funerals, Vassar.

HELEN E. SIVER
Mrs. Helen E. Siver of Vassar died Saturday, April 28, 2001. She was 87 years of age.
Mrs. Siver was born in Rich Township, Lapeer County May 19, 1913, the oldest daughter of Beryl and Katherine (Dodds) Monroe. She married Leon L. Siver May 30, 1934 in Grand Rapids. They resided in Flint 13 years, eventually moving to Vassar in 1947, where Mrs. Siver resided the next 54 years.
Mrs. Siver was a school teacher at the Chadwick School outside of Mayville and a bookkeeper for 20 years at their Western Auto Store in Vassar. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for 53 years, working in the library and teaching and playing for the childrens' church and Sunday School.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Rapson of Vassar, Jeanene and Roy Sabo, Waterford, Janet and Jim Ward, Elwell; one sister, Mary and Harold Rappuhn of St. Johns; four grandchildren, Larry and Sheryl Rapson, Cathy and Jim Cain, Dewey and Suzanne Rapson, Jodi Ward; five great-grandchildren, Chloe Rapson, Chase and Cailyn Cain, Dewey and Samantha Rapson; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with burial following at Fremont Township Cemetery. Former Pastor John Bertelsmeyer, assisted by Pastors Douglas Stockwell and Cyril Haines, officiated.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Vassar toward stain glass windows that were designed to honor long time members, Helen and Leon Siver.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Chapel for Funerals, Vassar.

FLORENCE E. JOHNSON
Miss Florence E. Johnson of Vassar died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Stratman Manor in Vassar. She was 88 years of age.
Miss Johnson was born May 5, 1912 in Vassar, the daughter of Eulie and Addie (Sturgis) Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Vassar and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Vassar. She retired in 1971 from Stacer Sales and Service Auto Dealership in Vassar where she was a bookkeeper.
Surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew, Thelma and Don German of Vassar and Godchild, Carol Erickson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Vivian Dennis of Caro, Ida Beecher of Vassar and Lilus Dennis of Saginaw.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church of Vassar with burial following at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Pastor Mike Duckworth officiated.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Chapel for Funerals, Vassar.

FLOYD T. GRAHAM
Mr. Floyd T. Graham of Millington died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Graham was born August 31, 1913 in Detroit, the son of Carl T. and Rebecca M. (Tuttle) Graham. He was self-employed a as handyman and also worked for Cobb's Gas Station in Millington as an attendant. He lived most of his life in Millington moving from Detroit.
Surviving is his family, one brother, Glenn Graham of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Rebecca Yorke of Millington; several nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great nephew.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with burial following at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiated.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Funeral Home, Millington.

LESLIE FISHER
Mr. Leslie Fisher of Hubbard Lake, formerly of Millington, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at his residence. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Fisher was born February 18, 1914 in Missouri, the son of Henry and Jenney (Smith) Fisher. On December 31, 1938 he married Leanore LaBrecque and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
He retired on March 1, 1972 after 38 years as an oiler with General Motors/Chevrolet, Local 659. He was a lifelong member of the Vienna Masonic Lodge #205. Mr. Fisher had moved to the Hubbard Lake area from Millington in 1999.
Surviving is his family, his wife, Leanore; one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Nancy Fisher of Brooksville, Florida; two grandsons, Curtis Jr. of Millington, Christopher and wife Lorraina of Oscoda; special nieces and nephews, Jack and Loretta Fisher, Ray and Janet Fisher, Bob and Carol Fisher, Shirley and Gene Sweet; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
A Masonic Service was held Monday, April 30, 2001 by the Vienna Lodge #205. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with burial following at Flint Memorial Park. Pastor Gary Helwer officiated.
Memorials may be directed to the Alpena Hospice.
Arrangements were in the care of Hanlin Funeral Home, Millington.
