NORMAN C. STOLEY
Norman C. Stoley, age 87, died on December 23, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Stoley is the son of the late Fred and Anna Stoley. Norman married Annis Wilma Land on April 18, 1942 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2004. Norman was born in Tuscola County on June 20, 1918.
Norman retired from Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw. He was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Vassar.
Surviving family include a son, William “Bill” (Fern) Stoley of Birch Run; a granddaughter, Dawn Stoley; a great-grandson, Jacob.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lee Reno; a grandson, Gary Houghton; three sisters, and a brother.
Funeral services were held at Penzien-Steel Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St., Vassar. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Rev. James Naumann officiated.

KENNETH B. BARNES
Kenneth B. Barnes, age 83, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw.
Kenneth was born June 12, 1922 in Vassar to the late Archibald and Myrtie Rose (Allen) Barnes. He married the former Millie J. McComb on September 19, 1942 and she preceded him in death on July 10, 1996.
Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WWII. He was employed and retired from Grede-Vassar, formerly Eaton Manufacturing Company, where he was supervisor.
Surviving family includes children, Kenneth M. (Peggy) Barnes, Cheryl Engler (Ronald Sholty) all of Vassar; grandchildren, Holly (David) Wilson, Cody Engler, Tricia Barnes (fiance Michael Gillman), Josh Barnes (fiance, Candice Gawne); great-grandson, Grant Barnes; brother, Donald Barnes. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
In accordance with Kenneth’s wishes, cremation has taken place. No funeral service was held.
Arrangements were entrusted to Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main Street, Vassar.
ANNA GONDA SCOTT
Anna Gonda Scott, age 71, of Williamford Ontario Canada, formerly of Vassar, passed away at the Grey bruce Regional Health Center in Owen Sound, Ontario on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 after a lengthy battle with Lymphoma Cancer.
Anna is survived by her mother, Esther (Bolzman) Gonda of Vassar and her husband, Paul, who she married in 1956. Together they had four children, Jerome Scott and wife Elizabeth of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Beth Emily Scott and husband, Xavier Lambin of Kincardineshire, Scotland, Martin Scott and wife Sarah of Aupaluk Quebec, and Erica Scott and friend Bill, of Robson, British Columbia.
Anna is dearly missed by her grandchildren Julian and Christopher of Scotland, Oliver Bean and Rae Theissen of British Columbia, and especially Jamie, Sam, Willie, and Janice of Quebec, who spent a lot of time with their grandmother.
Many nephews recall the pleasant memories of the many Canadian summers spent at Aunt Anna’s and Uncle Paul’s lakes.
Anna is also survived by two sisters and one brother: Dorothy Williams of Davison, Martha (Marty) Buckley of Vassar and Matt Gonda of Vassar.
Anna graduated from Vassar High School in 1952 and was a graduate of University of Michigan School of Nursing, where she graduated first in her class. She also had a Master’s Degree from the University of Toronto in Education and Sociology.
Anna became a Canadian citizen in 1970. She retired from the Grey Bruce Health Unit, where she worked for 35 years.
Anna had a brilliant mind. She loved reading, photography, writing short stories and traveling.
She and her family spent six years on the YAP Islands from 1963-1969, where she practiced nursing.
Anna was a strong-willed person and willingly donated her time and energy battling for nurses’ union rights and the causes of water conservation in Ontario, Canada.
There will be a memorial at her home on April 9, 2006 for a celebration of her life and the spreading of the ashes on their lakes.
The Vassar memorial will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at the home of Matt Gonda, 8663 Murphy Lake Road at 1 p.m. Anyone wishing to share stories or listen to things about Anna’s life are welcome to attend.
FLOYD HOLLEY
Floyd Holley, age 68, of Vassar, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Caro Community Hospital.
Floyd was born September 14, 1937 in Royal Oak, the son of Ophus Holley and Enid (Schram) Billings. He married Thelma Sebert on October 15, 1966 in Vassar.
Floyd worked for Eaton Foundry, as well as a driver for Fabbro’s Towing for the past 16 years.
Floyd leaves to cherish his memory wife Thelma; nine children, Rosemarie Tetreau, and companion Scott Diller, Pat and husband Tony Reid, Lora Balcer, Suzanne and husband Ron Inman, Debbie Holley and fiancé Dave Hartman, Bruce and wife Carrie Best, Judy Donnelly, David Holley, and Robert Holley and fiancé Martha Kester; 22 grandchildren; seven great -grandchildren; two sisters Delores McGill, Fern Owen; brother Gary and Judy Threehouse; extended family Charlie and wife Lyla Fabbro and family; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, father, and mother-in-law, father-in-law, and two sons-in-law, Marvin Donnelly, and Denny Tetreau.
A Life Celebration for Floyd took place on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with Pastor Chuck Green officiating. Burial took place in Flint Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be considered to the family.
MARSHALL JOHN SNYDER
Marshall John Snyder, of Mayville formerly of Vassar, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw at the age of 62.
Mr. Snyder was born July 8, 1943 the son of Marshall and Florence B. (Euler) Snyder. Marshall was a vice president of the Vassar Eagles, president of the Golden Years Club, and a member of the Odd Fellows and American Polish Club. He also served various ways in the Caro, Mayville, and Vassar communities.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte and seven step children. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were held on March 6, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home, Vassar with Mr. Vernon Lawrence officiating. An Eagles Memorial Service was also held under the direction of Vassar F.O.E. No. 2380. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Snyder Family Fund.
LEONA B BENTLEY
Leona Bentley, age 85 years, passed away Monday afternoon, March 20, 2006 at the Tendercare Health Center of Frankenmuth.
She was born on February 26, 1921 in Flint to the late Charles and Mabel (Mickel) Ensch. Leona married Clarence C. Bentley on May 24, 1938 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 1971.
Surviving family includes her son, Clarence (Margaret) Bentley; daughter, Lois (Henry) Wickings; 17 grandchildren, Scott Bentley of California, Shalene Matthews of Clio, Jason Harper of Nevada, Chris Wickings, Tony Wickings, Jim (Vickie) Wickings, Carol (Doug) Donnelly, Gary Wickings, John (Kelly) Wickings, Larry (Tammy) Wickings, Susan Wickings, Dan Callahan, Gilbert (Wanda) Radick, Lynn (David) Diener, Brenda (Jay) Wescoat, Clarence (Julie) Radick, all of Vassar, Cheri Clarke of Flint; 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Terry Brennan.
Leona was preceded in death by two daughters, Ida Mae Bentley and Rachel Radick.
Funeral services took place on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main Street, Vassar. Pastor Steve Woodford officiated, with burial at Watrousville Cemetery.

CORA “SUE” HAYNES
Cora “Sue” Haynes, age 51, died Monday, May 1, 2006 at her home. She was born July 16, 1954 in Newberry, the daughter of James Soulliere and Cora Rally.
She graduated from Vassar Adult Education. She and Ronald Haynes were united in marriage October 28, 1971 in Gaylord. She was a member of the Holiness Missionary Church in Vassar and had worked for Tiercon in Vassar, then Kaumagraph in Millington. She enjoyed crocheting, working with computers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ronald Haynes of Vassar; four children, Theresa and husband Eric Gilbert of Gladwin, Melissa Haynes of Vassar, Mindy Haynes of Vassar, Ronald Haynes Jr. of Vassar; five grandsons, Guy Gilbert, Cody Gilbert, Alex Gilbert, Collin Haynes, and Antonio Haynes; two sisters, Donna Jean and husband Tim Miller of Vanderbilt and Shirley Hall of Vanderbilt.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with Rev. Mary Edgington officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery.
