ELMER A. GERBER
Elmer A. Gerber, age 83, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006 at his home. Elmer was born on December 8, 1922 in Pigeon to the late Peter and Anna (Albrecht) Gerber. He was a retired jeweler of the K-Mart Corporation. Elmer was a member and past president of the Vassar Eagles.
Surviving family include children, Terri Willett of Lansing, Christine Gerber of Mio, Randy and Shawn Gerber of Caro; grandchildren Tommy Pintacura, Tracey Jarrett, Mark Bills, Danielle Gerber, Adrian Gerber and Jessica James; brother Raymond Gerber; sister Irene Zook; his former wife Betty Hehn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Gerber; brothers Peter Gerber and Joe Gerber; sister Edith Yoder.
Funeral and Committal service was held on June 8, 2006 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home in Vassar. Rev. John Becker officiated.
Cremation took place with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar.

EVA JEAN GERMAIN
Eva Jean Germain, age 80, of Vassar, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Eva Jean was born December 18, 1925 in Fostoria, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James and Mabel Jenkins.
She was a graduate of Mayville High School class of 1943. She and Leo L. Germain were united in marriage March 8, 1947. He preceded her in death July 1, 1989. Eva Jean retired in 1988 from Du’Laur now known as Cass River Coating. She was a member of the Vassar Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed crocheting, reading, bingo, singing and dancing.
Surviving are her children, Marilynn and husband William Beach of Lapeer, Judith and husband Clyde Wakefield, Ronald and wife Rose Germain, Joyce and husband Gerald Reeve, Phillip and wife Melanie Germain all of Vassar; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Donna Woods of Bancroft; numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo Germain and granddaughter Angie Reeves.
Funeral services were held on June 24, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Burial was at Millington Township Cemetery.

GENE F. SENEY
Gene F. Seney, age 84 of Vassar, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Brian’s House in Bay City.
Gene was born April 10, 1922 in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Lulu (Williamson) Seney. He and Bonnie Orr were united in marriage June 21, 1947. Gene served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the South Pacific and occupation of Japan. He was a member of American Legion Post 164 in Millington. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Vassar where he served as custodian for 25 years.
Gene worked at Atkins Hardware Store in Vassar for 50 years and was known as the “Hoover Man”. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his wife Bonnie of Vassar; five children, Sharon (Gary) Millerov of Vassar, Sam (Debbie) Seney of Frankenmuth, Steve Seney of Vassar, Scott (Sandy) Seney of Winona Lake, Indiana, Stacey (Tim) Manwell of Sarver, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, Amanda Ball, Tabitha Mason, Tavis Millerov, Nick Seney, Abbey Seney, Anna Seney, Garrett Seney, Jared Manwell, Caleb Manwell; six great-grandchildren; brother Glenn (Phyllis) Seney of Saginaw; sister, Fran Goff of Gladstone; special friends Hettie Esckelson, Gordon and Ellen Parker.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Jim Seney and Lloyd Seney.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiating. Burial was at Tuscola Township Cemetery with military honors.

Douglas A. Karr
Douglas A. Karr of Vassar, age 48, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at his residence.
Doug was born March 11, 1958 in Saginaw, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Joyce Reona (Parks) Karr. He and Charlene “Charly” Withers were united in marriage August 23, 2000 in Ohio. Doug enjoyed hunting, skiing, golfing, cooking, motorcycle riding, and snowmobiling. He was a dedicated father and enjoyed spending time with his children. He was also an awesome mechanic. Doug owned and operated the Halfway Truckstop and Karr’s Kafe along with his wife Charlene.
Surviving are his wife Charlene: 3 children, Courtney, Anthony, and Craig Karr; step-daughter Alicia Shaffer, parents Albert and Joyce Karr; 2 sisters, Vicki Karr of Vassar, Terri and husband Todd Hoyt of Vassar, Father-in-law Wayne and wife Connie Withers of Millington; mother-in-law Alma Withers; sisters and brothers-in-law; Jack McIntyre of Ft. Meyers, FL, Andrea McIntyre of Ft. Meyers, FL; Connie Fall, Carolyn and husband Paul Jones, Karen Withers- all of Vassar, Mellicha and husband James Ferrier of Burton; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Vassar with Pastor Jerry Larkin officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar 11am-9pm Friday, January 19, 2007 and at the church Saturday, January 20, 2007 from 10 am until time of service at 1pm.

Sadie Leila Vanwormer
Sadie Leila Vanwormer, age 92, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Sadie was born January 5, 1915 in Huron County the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Margaret (Ross) Kirkpatrick. She and Cecil Van Wormer were united in marriage June 25, 1938 in Midland. He preceded her in death April 16, 2006.
Sadie was a member of the Vassar First Presbyterian Church serving on the church board. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and dancing.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Kirk and wife JoAnn Van Wormer, Ken and wife Joan Van Wormer, Kim and wife Deborah Van Wormer, nine grandchildren, Troy and wife Natali Van Wormer, Terry and wife Shane Vane Wormer, Tobey and wife Marsia Van Wormer, Trent Van Wormer, Trisha Van Wormer, Brandon Van Wormer, Sara Van Wormer, Lyndsey and husband Daniel Schwegler, Kristyn Van Wormer, six great-grandchildren, brother Ross Kirkpatrick, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sadie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil, brothers and sisters.
Jennie M. Urbanski
Jennie M. Urbanski, age 92, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Maplewoods Manor in Clio.
Jennie was born May 20, 1914 in Poland the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Florian and Agnes (Piwor) Czerniec. She was married to Frank Urbanski.
Jennie was employed by the Vassar Foundry, retiring in 1974 and was also a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Millington.
Surviving are her two sons, Eddie and Danny Urbanski of Millington, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, Wanda (Larry) Alvord, daughter-in-law, Sue Urbanski, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank and a granddaughter, Amy.
