Beatrice C. Stefko
Of Fairgrove, age 97, died Tuesday January 23, 2001 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Beatrice was born September 27, 1903 near Deford in Tuscola County to Mahlon and Irene (Sweet) Cooper. She graduated from Cass City High School and attended County Normal. She also attended Ypsilanti Normal College in 1922. She taught elementary school in Deford for two years. Beatrice married Vern Wright at Cass City in 1923. Besides teaching she also was a bookkeeper for Sun Oil Co., an inspector for Dow Metal Co. In Bay City, Postmaster at Fairgrove for 21 years. Beatrice was a member of the Presbyterian Church and also was Worthy Matron of the Fairgrove O.E.S. Chapter. She was preceded in death by husband Vern Wright in 1963, her second husband John Stefko in 1972 and a sister, Doris Hunter in 1995. She is survived by two sons: Burton and wife Toni Wright of Alpena; Calvin and wife Barbara Wright of Sebring, Florida; Six grandchildren, Susan Chambers of Caro; Ginger and Brad Barnes of Fairgrove; Tim and Paula Wright of Boyne City; Bill Wright of Chicago, Ill; Jeff and Julie Wright of Portland, Or.; Tracie and Terr LaMontagne of Waukegan, Ill.; Nine great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Fairgrove with Pastor Rich Lawther officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery . Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home 6-9pm Friday and 9am until time of services on Saturday.

Lisa Marie Burks
Infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard and Carrie Ann (Kern) Burks died Monday, January 2001 at Covenant Medical Center-in Saginaw. Left to Cherish her memory are parents; grandparents, Randy and Carol Kern of Vassar, Jerry and George Wood of Vassar; great grandparents, Norm and Barb Kern of Vassar, Bill Abbott of Standish; aunts and uncles, Jeremy and Andria Kern, Jeremy and Amanda Burks, Tessa and Brian Delore, Jenny Valenzula. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 25, 2001, graveside, at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Mary Grimshaw officiating. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar 9:00 am Thursday. She was preceded by her brother Lucas Burks September 19, 1999.

Robert Allen Smith
Age 64 of Lupton died Monday January 22, 2001 at home. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 9-9:00 pm and Friday 9-2:00 pm the time of service. Born October 25, 1936 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Faye (Meyers) Smith. He and Elaine Burns were united in marriage April 30, 1955. He retired from General Motors with 31 years service and moved to northern Michigan for his love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting camping, and 3 wheeling. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 629 of Flint. He proudly adopted his 3 youngest grandchildren. Surviving are wife: Elaine; Children: Allen and wife Joanne Smith of Mt. Morris; Gloria and husband Randy Cates of Genesee; Cindy and husband Rob Einerwold of Indiana; Joseph Smith of Flint; Marie Hill of Lupton; 12 Grandchildren: Eddie; Rachel; Casey; Carrie; Bradley; Terra; Jessica; Camie; Michael; Colton; 2 deceased Grandchildren Jennifer and Nicholas. Brothers: Ferman and Johnnie; Sisters: Donna and Neva. Preceded in death by brothers Charles, Leroy and Jerry, and sisters Margie, June, and his parents. Several nieces and nephews survive him.

Edwin Charles Sweet
Age 77 of Flint, died Monday January 22, 2001. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 25, 2001 from the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends 6-9:00 pm Tuesday and 9-9:00 pm Wednesday. Family, friends and parish will gather at the funeral home Wednesday to pray the Rosary at 8:00 pm. If desired memorial contributions may be made to E.W. T.N. , envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Edwin was born July 26, 1923 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Dorothy (Hanson) Sweet. Edwin and Edna were united in marriage February 23, 1946 in Flint. He retired from GM in 1971 with almost 20 years of service. Edwin was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. He joined the Boy Scouts in 1963, and served in many capacities, including 10 years as a chaplain. He also participated in Woodbadge Training. His honors include receiving the Silver Beaver in 1970, being inducted as a Vigil member in the Order of the Arrow, and receiving the Order of the Arrow Founders award in 1989 among others. Survivors include wife: Edna Marie of 54 years; son: Ray and wife Eileen Collins of Tempe, Arizona; 2 daughters: Linda and husband Rev. Clifford Jordan of Utica, MI; Mary Jane and husband Tommy Wright of Flint; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister: Vonda Struthers of Port Huron; 2 brothers: Melvin Sweet of Port Huron; Dick Ross of FL;

James R. Flynn
Age 95, of Mt. Morris died Saturday January 20, 2001 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Harold Flynn officiating. Burial at Gracelawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral from 5-9 Monday and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. James was born April 5, 1905 in Charleston, Arkansas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. and Alice (McCracken) Flynn. He and Nettie Ferguson were united in marriage September 6, 1925 in Charleston. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1982. He retired in 1967 from A.C. Spark Plug as a pipefitter with 25 ˝ years service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Skidway Lake. Surviving are 7 Grandchildren: Jimmy, Nancy , Allen, Chris, Diane, Rick, Peggy; 15Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 brother: Jack Flynn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sons Carroll and Thomas, daughters Wanda and Marjorie grandson Randy and great granddaughter Jennifer.

Harry C. Viers
Age 87 of Mt. Morris, died Friday January 19, 2001 at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City. Funeral service will be held 12:30 pm Monday January 22, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Clifford Bira officiating. Burial in Forrest Hill Cemetery, Evart. Family will receive friends Saturday 6-9:00 pm, Sunday 1-9:00 pm, and 9:00 am until the time of service 12:30 pm Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Viers was born May 28, 1913 in Evart, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Sarah (Comer) Viers. Harry's step mother Louella Viers raised him. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army European Theatre. Harry retired in 1975 from Fisher Body as a painter. He enjoyed fishing and building houses. Survivors include: several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 step-brothers.

Michael Larry Black Jr.
Age 31 of Mt. Morris died Thurday January 18, 2001 due to a automobile accident. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday January 22, 2001 from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating, burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. Family will receive friends 4-9pm Saturday, 9-9pm Sunday, 9-10 am Monday. On Sunday evening, family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home for a Rosary service at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family fund, envelopes are avaliable at the Funeral Home. Michael was born on January 17, 1970 in Flint the son of Michael Black and Suzann and stepfather William Hersch. He was a member of the Clio Eagles #3609, he worked for Ed Kusky House moving. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and slots. Surviving are his fiancé': Samantha Fahr; Son: Michael III; Daughter: Alexandria; Stepdaughter: Wendy; Sister: Melissa and husband John Keysor of Birch Run; Brother: Donavon Black and Annette Zovishlack of Clio; Stepsister: Colleen and husband Tom Bishop of Marysville; 2 nieces, 1 nephew, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Long time dear friend Tim Wilson. He was preceded in death by his Grandma Piechnik, Grandma Black, Stepsister Rachel.
