Julia V. "Mierta" Markin
Age 86. Reydell Ark, formerly of Flint and San Diego. Died Thursday, January 18, 2001 in Little Rock, Ark. Funeral Service will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Rev. Burton Jones officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-9p.m. Sunday. Memorial Contributions may bedirected to St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center. Envelopes will be a available at the funeral home. Julia was born July 24, 1914 in Flint, the daughter of Ignatius and Elizabeth (Zmuda) Mierta . She was married to Alec Markin August 26, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1988. She had worked for Supreme Donuts and AC Spark Plug . Her hobbies included crocheting and bowling. Surviving are her children Elizabeth and Richard Eckstein of Mt. Morris; Gloria and Chuck Chastain of Reydell, Ark.; William and Janie Markin of Stigler, Oklahoma; James Markin of Wayne, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters: Frances Ritter of Swartz Creek; Irene Skerjance of Grand Blanc; Brother: Richard Mierta of Mojave, Calif.; Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Elaine in 1989 , also 4 brothers and 2 sisters

Joe M. Holicki
Age 73, of Mt. Morris, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Home. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at Trinity Assembly of God. Pastor David Krist will officiate. Burial at Montrose Cemetery. Graveside military honors by Clio VFW Post #1452. If desired memorial contributions may be made in his name to Missions funds through the Trinity Assembly of God Church. Family will receive friends at Miles Martin funeral home 9am-9pm Friday, 9-11 Saturday. Saturday Mr. Holicki will be taken to church to lie in state from 12 noon until the time of service at 1 pm. Joe was born March, 21, 1927 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Mary (Uvacik) Holicki. Mr. Holicki was a member of Trinity Assembly of God, and a church usher. He was a life time member of the VFW. He served in WW II. He worked for GM with 36 years of service, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking and bow hunting. Joe and Mary were united in marriage July 19, 1947 in Angola, IN. He accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in June of 1990, as have his wife, all his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: wife Mary of 53 years; 5 children: Dennis and wife Shelley Holicki of Flushing; Laurie and husband Dennis Rockwell of Mt. Morris; Dr. Joe and wife Heidi Holicki of Coldwater, MI ; twin sister: Karen and husband Terry Allman of Mt. Morris; Tony and wife Shawn Holicki of Montrose; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Frank Holicki of Grand Blanc; several nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by grand daughter Dana, 2 sisters Anne and Rose, and his parents.

Delos D. Prime
Of Fairgrove, age 81, died Monday, January 15, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Prime was born July 2, 1919 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Pearl (Harding) Prime. Delos and Dorothy O'Connor were united in marriage January 5, 1939. She preceded him in death March of 1990. He enjoyed collecting old clocks, old wrenches, cast iron seats, and gas engines. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Thumb Area Old Engine & Tractor Association. Delos was a life long farmer and a lifetime member of the Fairgrove United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are three sons and their spouses: Jim and wife Lynn Prime, Dick and wife Barb Prime, Bob and wife Susan Prime all of Fairgrove; seven grandchildren: Kevin Prime of Fairgrove, Kelly Prime of Southfield, Theresa and husband Tim Timko of Caro, Paula Prime of Reading, Pennsylvania, Polley Prime of Saginaw, Rebecca and husband Lee Crosby of Akron, Robbie Prime of Fairgrove; two great grandsons: Nicholas and Brenden Timko; one sister: Grace Ruthig of Saginaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Madelean Garrison. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, January 19, 2001 at the Fairgrove United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Heath and Pastor Kevin Harbin officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Fairgrove 6-9:00 pm Wednesday and 2-9:00 pm Thursday. On Friday morning Mr. Prime will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring, may consider memorial contributions to the Fairgrove United Methodist Church, Fairgrove Fire Department or donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or at church.

Cecil M. Peters
Passed away at home with her family after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. She always kept a positive attitude and had a zest for life. She has donated her body to the University of Michigan Research Center. A memorial service will be held 3 pm Wednesday January 17, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 2pm until the time of service. If desired memorial contributions may be made in Cecil's name to a charity of choice, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Cecil was born July 5, 1930 in Flint, the daughter of Cecil Mark and Magdalene (Hurkley) Prevost. In her younger years she waitressed at the Pink Garter, Cromer's Restaurant, and the Red Rooster. She worked for G.M. for 10 years. Most recently she was employed by Towne Center Pharmacy in Mt. Morris, where she was able to share her joy for life with others. She was an active member with P.L.A.V. Aux. #8, American Legion Post #342 and Fraternal Order of Eagles - Flint Aries #629. She was a loving and devoted mother who was always involved with the activities of her 5 children. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, Cecil was also a loyal Red Wings Fan. Survivors include 4 children: Mark and wife Garee Wells of Las Vegas, Nevada; Debra and husband John Ketelhut of Beaverton; Pam Peters of Mt. Morris; Jeff and wife Danyl Peters of Davison; 4 grandchildren: Brian and Jason Ketelhut of Flint; Stephanie and Alexis Peters of Davison; 1 great grandchild Jalen Ketelhut; brother: John and Donna Prevost of Escondido, CA.; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by husband Jerry and daughter Nancy.

Janette C. McDonald
Age 77, of Flint died Thursday January 11, 2001 at her residence. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday January 17, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Robert D. Taylor officiating. Wednesday morning family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home from 10-11:00 am the time of service. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Carriage Town or the Salvation Army, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Janetta was born October 22, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Kathryn (Fostenaul) Bullard. Janetta and William were united in marriage August 19, 1946 in Angola, IN. Mrs. McDonald was a L.P.N. at St. Joseph Hospital for 17 years. Survivors include husband of 55 years William of Flint; 3 sons: William and Karen McDonald of Davison; Ronald and wife Dottie McDonald of Vassar; Gerald McDonald of Lansing; 2 daughters: Macia and husband Paul Poley of Edmund, OK.; Nancy Michener of Flint; 9 grandchildren; brother: Edward and Mary Bullard of Midland; sister: Donna Kane of Davison; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. We know that when she met the Lord, he must have said "well done good and faithful servant" We will miss her tremendously.

Norman Edward Stange
Of Vassar, age 83, died Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Pat's Country Care Home in Ossineke. Norman was born July 4, 1917 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. And Mathilda (Miller ) Stange. He and Dorothy M. Bender were united in marriage May 3, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Norman worked on the family farm all of his life. Before retiring he had been employed at Newton Plumbing and Heating for about 20 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Surviving are, wife Dorothy: daughters: Judy Ann and husband Jim Stinson of Alpena; Janet Sue and husband Henry Bloom of Ossineke; 10 grandchildren: Jane and husband Brian Faylor, Janine and husband Mike, Peterson, Justine and husband Keith Krentz, Julie and husband Brian Haubenstricker, Jason Werner, Jon Werner, Josh Werner, Larry Bloom, Lori and husband Bruce Reiffer, Keith and wife Nicki Bloom; 12 great grandchildren; Numerous nieces and nephews; former son-in-law: Gerald and wife Penny Werner of Spruce. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter, in 1937. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, January 15, 2001 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville with Rev. David Hakes and Rev. Wes Gillaspie officiating. Burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar 6-9pm Saturday and 2-4pm and 6-9pm Sunday. On Monday Mr. Stange will be taken to church to lie in state where friends may call from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring, may consider memorial contributions to St. Michael's Lutheran Church or Hospice of North East Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or at church.

Peggy Lou Montpas
Age 60 of Flint died Wednesday January 10, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday at Miles Martin funeral home. Burial at Flint Memorial Park. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Peggy was born in Flint, April 22, 1940 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Leatha Adell (Neeley) Princing. Peggy was active with the Genesee Athletic Booster Club. She retired from the Genesee schools in 1998. Survivors include: 4 children: David and wife Laura Montpas of Flushing; Debbie and husband Tim Gager of Genesee; Dean Montpas of Davison; Dale and wife Tammy Montpas of Mt. Morris; 7 grandchildren: Melissa, Ashley, Brittany, Alicia, Shelby, Mickey, and Joe. brother, Marlin and wife Dodo Princing, sister, Delores and husband Doug Clark, many cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends.
