Mildred B. Rushford
Of Vassar, age 80, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper in Saginaw. Mildred was born November 22, 1920 in Franklin County, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. And Mattie J. (West) Doss. She and William Rushford were united in marriage January 29, 1944 in Texas. She was a member of the Tuscola Community Church. Surviving are, husband, William of Vassar; two daughters, Brenda Stilson of Vassar and Donna and husband LeRoy Engelhart of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Stacy Stilson and Kelly Stilson of Vassar, and Rachel Engelhart of Bad Axe; two brothers, Ray Doss of Louisana and Lester and wife Lonnie Doss of Illinois; four sisters, Margie Allen of Illinois, Jane and husband Carl Hudgens, Mary Jane and husband Odell Ashmore, Barb McCoy all of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Don and wife Barbara Miller, sister-in-law, Sally and husband Chuck Schnurer, and Shirley and husband Wayne Stanley all of Michigan; and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar with Pastor Greg Shepherd, Pastor Paul Conley and Pastor Cyril Haines officiating. Burial at Tuscola Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 12-9pm Tuesday and 9 am - 1pm Wednesday. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to Tuscola Community Church or American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Albert J. Sova
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Caro Community Hospital. Albert, age 81, of Vassar, was born May 1st, 1919 in Cheboygan, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Sova and Elizabeth Leonard. He and Irene Weber Petty were united in marraige on November 13th, 1971. He retired from AC Spark Plug in Flint after 32 years of service. Albert was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar where he served as an usher, the Richville American Legion Post #0400, V.F.W. # 3087 - Flint, the Knights of Columbus, Military Order of the #6 Cooties, the Vassar Eagles, U.A.W. Local Retirees # 651. Albert also served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Surviving are his wife Irene; 3 children: Sandy and Walt Keyes of Vassar; Dick Petty of Holt, MI.; Barb and Chip Reinert of Vassar; 10 grandchildren: Scott and Karen Keyes, Lori Morris, Steven and Becky Keyes, Renae and Don Hull, Mark Petty and Kimberly, Ryan Petty, Kelly and Vernon Southmayd, Cindi and Tom Wilinski, Cara Lemmen, Scott Lemmen and Debbie; 14 great-grandchilden: Kristin, Erin, Randi, Robyn, Kelsey and Kerry, Lindsey, Lance and Zachary, Emily, Miranda and Makenzie, Madelyn, Tristan; Siblings: Gay Neugebauer, Elaine Briley, Lucille Fenlon, Theresa and Jim Bell, Armand and Delores Sova, Sisters-in-law: Rose Sova, Hilda Sova, Sharon Sova; Al leaves numerous special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, Mother, Father and Brothers Alwood, Fred, Leo and Sister Bernice LaPorte. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday from the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar. Rev. John A. Ederer officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday from 12-9:00 pm. On Sunday evening, family and friends will gather for a Vigil Prayer service at 7:30pm. On Monday, Albert will be taken to the church to lie in state from 12 noon until the time of services at 1:00 pm.

Martha J. Fry
Age 52, of Mt. Morris, died Friday, January 5, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday January 8,2001 from First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris. Pastor Bob Burkey officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Family will recieve friends 7-9:00 pm Saturday and 12-9:00 pm Sunday. On Monday, Mrs. Fry will be taken to church to lie in state from 12 noon until the time of services at 1:00 pm. Martha was born December 19, 1948 in Saginaw the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert N. and Norma J. (Sian) Niven. She and Neil Fry were united in marriage on November 3, 1967 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Saginaw. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris, the SpinaBifida Support Group. Martha worked as a teachers aid at Buell Elementery School and was considered a Mother and Grandmother to many. She was a big fan of Elvis Presley, his music gave her comfort. Surviving are her husband: Neil C.; 5 children: Michelle, Sarah and husband Brian Dennis; Jennifer, Neil D. and Rosemary; 7 Grandchildren: Kasey; Brandy; Sabrina; Courtny; Ayla; Travis; Sophia; Parents: Robert and Norma Niven; 3 brothers and 1 sister: David and wife Chantel Niven; Dennis and wife Carol Niven; Rosemary and husband John Gloombisky; Special sister-in-law: Karen Niven; Many special friends and family: Pat Grant; Vera Estep; Marion Shreve; Debbie Westnick; Kathy Jacques; Toni; Numerous Nieces; Nephews; Cousins; Aunts and Uncles. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents Harry and Flossie McCarty, Joseph and Mary Sian.

Carol Jean Rockefeller
Age 56 of Mt. Morris died Tuesday January 2, 2001 at McLaren Hospice. Funeral services will be 11am Monday January 15, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Mr. Walter David officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 6-9pm and all day Sunday. Born March 9, 1944 in Flint the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Leroy and Rose Genevieve (Jewell) VanAlstine. She and Norman L. Rockefeller were united in marriage. Germaine "Mimi" (Avery) Stimac
Age 34, of Flint, died Monday, January 1, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will take place 11:00am Friday, January 5, 2001 from the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Interment in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Wednesday from 6-9pm, on Thursday from 12-9pm and on Friday morning from 9am until the time of service at 11:00am. Mimi was born May 5, 1966 in Flint the daughter of Joseph and Germaine Stimac. She was employed at Flint Delphi East. She graduated from Kearsley High School. Mimi was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union and the Slovene National Benefits Society. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals and her family. Surviving are her parents, Joseph and Germaine Stimac; Brothers and Sisters: Jospeh, Deborah, Lori, David, Michael, Matthew and Sarah; Half Sisters: Candy Flowers and Nicole Rivette; Half Brother: Chad Rivette; Many nieces, nephews and cousins; Former husband: Dennis Avery. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents: Joseph and Mable Stimac and Wilfred and Amelia LaVoie; Aunt, Carolyn Layne.

Clarence Albert Clark
age 85, of Mt. Morris, died Monday January 1, 2001 at his residence. Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Mr. Vernon Lawrence officiating. Burial at Thetford Twp. Cemetery. If desired memorial contributions maybe made to St. Mary Catholic Church, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Family will receive friends Wednesday 12-9 and Thursday 9 am until the time of service at 11 am. Clarence was born September 22, 1915 in Standish, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Mary (Osborn) Clark. Clarence and Irene Loisell were united in marriage May 22, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Clarence served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Dupont with 32 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking. Surviving are: Wife Irene of Mt. Morris; daughter: Judy and husband Alex Harris of Flint; 2 grandsons: Daniel and wife Rebecca Salzar of Mt. Shirley Marion DePottey
Age 79, of Vassar died Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Covenant Cooper in Saginaw. Shirley was born February 1, 1922 in Vassar the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland and Vernola (Thompson) Baxter. She and Lloyd DePottey were united in marriage October 14, 1938 in Auburn, Indiana and together they shared 56 years until his death in 1995. Shirley is survived by a daughter: Carol; son:David and Peg DePottey of Caro; three granddaughters: Shelly Kime; Lee McCloud of Vassar and Jessica DePottey of Caro; four grandsons: Matt Denome of Vassar; David DePottey Jr. of Ypsilanti; Tommy Keinath of Millington; and Kipper Keinath of Vassar; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers: Roland Baxter of Tuscola and Gene Thompson of Davison; two sisters: Ethel Emery of Tuscola and Leila Johnson of Frankenmuth; and good friend Jenny Killbourne. Besides her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Kolb , grandson, Ted Kolb, brother Rex Baxter, sister, Janet Fisher. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am Tuesday April 3, 2001 fro the Tuscola Community Church. Paster Greg Sheppard officiating with cremation to follow. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Monday from 3-9 pm. On Tuesday Shirley will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial donations to the Tuscola Community Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
