Otis H. Miller
Of Vassar, age 92, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at St.Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Otis was born October 23, 1908 in Elkton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. and Lou L. (Hazard) Miller. He and Frances L. Fuller were united in marriage May 21, 1932. She preceded him in death June 25, 2000. Otis worked as a farmer and retired from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. Surviving are, his daughter Sandra Miller of Vassar; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, brothers Lee and Don Miller, and sister Joyce Perez. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiating. Burial in Tuscola Cemetery. Friends may call at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar Wednesday 12-9 p.m. On Thursday 9:00 -11am at the funeral home and 12 until time of service at the church. Roy E. Webber Jr.
Age 72, of Genesee, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 14, 2001 from the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Cook officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Tuesday from 6-9:00 pm, Wednesday from 10-3:00 pm and 5-9:00 pm, and Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Roy was born October 23, 1928 in Breckenridge, MI. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. and Margaretta (Bott) Webber. He and Lillian M. Kissinger were united in marriage on July 3, 1953 in Angola, Ind. Roy served in the US Army from 1950-52, and worked for Turnstedt for 32 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the UAW #326 and the Gladwin Eagles. He enjoyed motorcycle and auto racing, and wood carving. Surviving are: his wife Lillian; 3 sons: Steven C. (Timbra) of Gladwin; Roy E. III (Kimberly) of Clio; David P. (Dawn) of Clio; 6 grandchildren: Steven, Jean, Brody, Ryan, Lindsay, Chase; 6 brothers and sister: Wesley (Ann) Webber; Phyllis (Clifford) Shaw; Gerald (Juanita) Webber; James Webber; William Webber; Patricia Nelson; Several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Webber, sister, Donna Parkin.
Susan A. Miller
Age 40, of Saginaw died Saturday June 9, 2001 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 am Tuesday June 12, 200l at the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Fulks officiating, with burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon-9:00 PM Monday and on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of service. Susan was born August 12, 1960 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David R. and Lyda (Decator) Miller. She married Craig Miller January 16, 1982. Prior to her illness she had been employed for the DuroLast Corporation in Saginaw. She is survived by Husband: Craig; Parents: David and Lyda Miller of Otisville; Grandmother: Bernice Miller of Grayling; 2 sisters: Mary and husband Jimmie Kinney of Grand Blanc; Alice and husband Robert Koski of Riverton, Wyoming.
Paul James Boone
Age 79 of Flint died Wednesday June 6, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with military honors by Davison VFW #4086. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-9pm Saturday and all day Sunday. Sunday evening the Davison VFW #4086 will gather at the funeral home for a VFW Memorial. Paul was born November 25, 1921 in Alamo, TN the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude and Nancy (Dill) Boone. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Navy, and was a Lifemember of Davison VFW #4086. He and Ocal Howard were united in marriage in Arkansas 1946 and they moved to Michigan 1950. He retired September 1981 from Consumers Power. Surviving are his wife: Ocal; Daughter: Paula and husband Boyd Muske of Brenham, TX; Son: Jim "Steve" and wife Judi Boone of Montrose; 5 grandchildren: Jim Ford; Joey Ford; Jason Boone; Justin Boone and fiancé Holly Kirby; Stephanie Boone and fiancé Brett Stroup. Great grand-daughter: Taylor Boone, Brother: Ernest Boone of Ft. Collins, CO; Several nieces and nephews. Paul's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the dialysis unit of McLaren Kidney Center.
William John Carrigan
Age 88, of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at his residence. Funeral mass will take place 10:00am Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends at Miles Martin Funeral Home on Sunday from 6-8 pm and on Monday from 11-3 and 6-9 pm. On Monday evening family, friends, and parish will gather for a Scriptural Rosary at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. On Tuesday morning, William will be taken to church to lie in state from 9am until the time of service at 10:00 am. William was born February 16, 1913 in Flint the son of Mr. And Mrs. Charles and Clara (Ginster) Carrigan. He and Margaret E. Tufts were united in marriage in 1935 at St. Mary's in Flint, they were married for over 50 years. William was the valedictorian of the first graduating class at St. Mary's Flint. He worked as a tool and die repairman for 38 years at Fischer Body #1 and he participated in the Flint Sit Down Strike in 1937. Surviving are: 3 children, Margaret Mary (Robert W.) Byers of Horton, MI., Shirley J. (Roger A.)O'Berry of Fenton, Michael W. (Sharleen) Carrigan of Flint Twp., Grandchildren: Susan M. (Christopher) Porter, Andrew R. (Mischell) Byers, John Matlewski, Edward Matlewski, Cynthia Matlewski, Timothy (Tracy) Matlewski, Kevin (Cindy) O'Berry, Karen Braunscheidel, Sarah Welch, Elizabeth O'Berry, Paul Michael Carrigan, 8 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great great granddaughter, Sister, Berneitas White of Clio, Several Nieces and Nephews. Donna Mae Johnson
Age 70, died Friday June 1, 2001 at her home. Donna was born June 3, 1930 in Lapeer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil W. And Bernice M. (Waite) Colosky. She and Kenneth D. Johnson were united in marriage June 7, 1947 in North Branch. In June they would celebrate their 54th Wedding Anniversary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, collecting dolls, rummage sales, raising Chihuahua dogs. Surviving are, husband, Kenneth; seven children, Linda Johnson of Vassar, Kenneth Winfield and wife Carol Johnson of Mayville, Sally and husband Harry Sziber of Vassar, Penny Ann and husband Timothy A. Hodge of Texas, twins Daniel and wife Tami Johnson of Millington and Terry and wife Tammy Johnson of Vassar, Tamara and husband Tony Jobson of Vassar; grandchildren, Theresa and husband Michael Stankiewic, Tina Sziber, Kimberly Sziber, Kenneth Sziber, Cindy Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Melissa Ann and husband Thomas Smith, Brooke Lee Hodge, Amy Marie Johnson, Tonya Johnson, Dedra Lee, twins Joseph Lee and Joshua Lee, Andrew Scott, Tony Lee Jr.; step grandchildren, Jennifer and Melinda; great grandchildren, Matthew August Ollila, Tyler Scott Ollila, Raven Rachel Marie Johnson, Payton Gray, Patience Grace; brothers and sister, Clayton and wife Rose Colosky, Judy Wilber and Cecil Colosky all of Vassar; several nieces and nephews. William O. "Bill" Strickland
Age 72, of Flint, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at his home ending a hard fought battle with Cancer. Funeral service will take place 1:00 PM Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Pastor Michael Durbin officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday from 3 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North End Baptist Church Building Fund. Mr. Strickland was born June 5, 1928 in Franklin County, AL, the son of William and Mettie Strickland. He moved to Michigan in 1947, working for and retiring from Fisher Body. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post #8236. He married Vera Reid in 1954. She preceded him in death March 3, 1997. He was a member of the North End Baptist Church and was also an avid gardener, and enjoyed taking frequent trips home to Alabama over the years. William was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He is survived by 3 sons: Douglas and Catherine Strickland of Flint Twp., Timothy and Vicky Strickland of Lapeer, Roger and Joyce Strickland of Red Bay, AL; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, John, Jason, Isabelle and Jeremy; aunt, Artie and Milos Strickland of Houghton Lake, aunt, Linnie Strickland of Red Bay, AL; good friend and caregiver, Earline Loucks of Mt. Morris; numerous cousins and friends in Michigan and Alabama. He was also preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express a special Thank You to the McLaren Hospice.
