Minnie White
Age 92 of Mt. Morris, died Tuesday July 31, 2001 at her residence. Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday August 3, 2001 at the Miles MartinFuneral Home, Pastor Bob Burkey officiating with burial in Davison Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thur. from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Minnie was born March 29, 1909 in Caro the Daughter of John and Bessie (Matthews) Hunt. She was married to Glenn White in 1927. Life member of the Genesee Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Genesee United Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a clerk with the Genesee Post Office for 20 years. She is survived by: 2 Sons: Hubert White; Larry and Janis White of Warsaw, Ind.; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; Several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Glenn, daughter June Irvine, sister Lois Helgeson and half sisters Sarah Kruske and Nellie.
Harry Estel Williams
Age 81, of Mt. Morris died Sunday July 29, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday August 1, 2001 at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 2-8:00 pm and Wednesday 12-noon until the time of service at 3:00 pm . Harry was born April 7, 1920 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Elizabeth (Ola) Williams. Harry and Shirley (Crawford) were united in marriage August 8, 1941, in Flint. He worked for Buick Motor Division as a bricklayer and a truck driver with 35 years of service. Harry served in the U.S. military, and was a member of the Local UAW 599. Survivors include: wife Shirley of 60 years; children: Leslie Collier of Atlanta, GA.; Patrice and husband Russell Earnest of Atlanta, Ga.; Bruce and wife Patsy Williams of Flushing; Peter Williams of Twining; Grandchildren: Georgia Shelton, Mark Collier, Stephanie and Zachary Williams, Angela Schilling, Steven Williams, Alicia Earnest. 6 great grandchildren; step sister: Elsie Bernathy; sister in law: Constance Fry; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Viola Williams and sister Joyce Marsh. The family wishes a special thanks to Dr. Allan Ebert and Staff and also Hurley CCU.
John James Sonderhouse
Died Friday July 27, 2001 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City. Age 74, he was born March 26, 1927 in Vassar, the son of William and Ethel (Seney) Sonderhouse. He and Pauline Posh were married for 18 years. He then married Anna Marker in March of 1972. John served with the U.S Navy from 1945-1946 and retired from Eaton Foundry after 30 years or service. He was a member of the Vassar American Legion and the Caro Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, snowmobiles, and gambling at St. Ignace. He is survived by: Wife - Anna; Children - Robert James and wife Dianne Sonderhouse of Boise, Idaho; Patricia Ann and husband Michael Mercer of Columbiaville; Grandchildren: Amy and Lindsey Sonderhouse; Michael S. and wife Jennifer Mercer; Jennifer Mercer; 1 great grandson: Noah M. Mercer; 1 aunt: Helen Sonderhouse of Bay City; Several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews; also several cousins living in Ohio and Michigan. Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday July 30, 2001 at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Vassar, Pastor Tim Bender officiating with burial in St. Agatha Cemetery, in Gagetown The family will receive friends at the funeral home 3-9 p.m. Sunday and on Monday from 9:00a.m. till time of service. Frederick I. Swart
Age 78, of Clio, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 27, from the St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with graveside military honors by VFW Gordon R. Bennett Post #1452. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Thursday from 6-9pm. On Friday morning, Frederick will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed towards the Genesys Hospice Care Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Frederick was born August 27, 1922 in Washington, PA the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest V. and Lula (Friend) Swart. He has lived in the Flint are for many years, retiring from the Buick Motor Division in 1977. Fred was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving with the 94th Infantry Division in Europe. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action, a Bronze Star, European American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal. Fred was happily married to Anna Mae for 46 years. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening. Fred was a kind-hearted man who gave to many charities. Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae, 2 step-daughters, Jackie Good and Susan Teeple of Clio, stepson, Neal Henderson of Oscoda, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, Fred was preceded in death by a son, Christopher in 1991, his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Mary A. Gage
Age 89, of Sandusky and formerly Fairgrove area, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at her daughter's home in Sandusky. Mary was born June 20, 1912 in Fairgrove, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Viola (Sherman) Hickey. She and Richardson Gage were united in marriage November 5, 1930 in Akron. Mary was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Essexville. Surviving are, her husband, Richardson of Sandusky, children, Alice and husband Rudy Kosik of Essexville, velma jean and husband Duane Houthoofd of Sandusky, Betty Lou and husband Oscar Donohue of Grand Blanc, Dick and wife Pat Gage of Colorado, 23 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother and daughter, Phyllis Nitz. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday at Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Fairgrove with Mr. Oscar Donohue and Mr. Eric Houthhoofd officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home 11am-9pm Thursday and 9am until the time of service on Friday. Andrew J. Mitchell
Age 86, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 27, 2001 at Greenwood Cemetery in North Branch. Pastor Roger Gedke officiating. Family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Mt. Morris on Thursday from 11 am until 9 pm. Andrew was born July 25, 1914 in North Branch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary (Richard) Mitchell. He and Ella Mae Behnke were united in marriage on October 28, 1947. Andrew served in the US Army from Jan. 1941 to Aug. 1947 as a captain in the Philippines and in Japan. He was a lifelong mason for 61 years with the Masonic Lodge in North Branch. Surviving are, his wife, Ella Mae, Children, Martha Sanchez, Joseph and wife Dolores Mitchell and Mark Mitchell, Grandchildren, Amy, Susan and Sarah Mitchell, Monica and Matthew Sanchez, Lori Goodman, Andrew Mitchell, Sarah Pace, 3 great-grandchildren, sister, Gertrude Marion, many nieces and nephews, beloved pets, Spike the cat and Lady the dog. Andrew was preceded in death by his mother and father and 9 brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the McLaren Hospital staff, 12th floor and especially Dr. Malde.
William J. Fuller
Age 69 of Vassar, died Saturday July 21, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday July 24, 2001 at Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Vassar. Family will be present Monday July 23, 2001 from 7-9pm and Tuesday 12-noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. William was born February 11, 1932 in West Phalia, Michigan. He and Patricia Obremski were united in marriage December 31, 1966. William retired from G.M. with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans, American Legion, and D.A.V. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include wife: Patricia; 4 children: Tina Cureton; James and wife Lisa Fuller; David and wife Margie Fuller; Denise and husband Harry Arquette; 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister: Barbara Lovejoy; brothers: James, George and Robert; sister: Rose McDonald; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
