Robert F. Cruthers
Age 69 of Mt. Morris Twp. died Friday July 20, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Cntr.. Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Garry L. Yeager officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6pm Sunday and all day Monday. Family will be present Sunday 6-9pm and Monday 1-4pm and 6-9pm. He was born in Flint January 10, 1932 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Irene (Thompson) Cruthers. He and Rosalie Ratajczak were united in marriage April 26, 1952. Robert was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving with the US Army in Germany rebuilding bridges that were destroyed during WWII. He was a member and past president of Westwood Lions Club and served 2 times as convention chairman. He graduated from Flint Northern High School and General Motors Institute. He Retired from Buick Motor Division in 1997 with 47 years service as a welder. Surviving are wife: Rosalie. 3 daughters: Cynthia and husband David Doezema of Grand Rapids; Jean Ann and husband Timothy March of Grand Blanc; Annette Kniffel of Burton. 4 grandchildren: Jessica March; Kyle March; Deming Doezema; and Corinne Doezema. Brother: William and wife Alice Cruthers of Flint. Sister: Mary and husband Richard Bastion of Lincoln. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Susan Cruthers, who died at birth.
Robert Patrick "Bob" Maxson
Age 67, of Mt. Morris, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at his home. Funeral service will be held at 4:30 PM, Monday, July 23, 2001 from Miles Martin Funeral Home, Mt. Morris. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 9-9pm and Monday from 11am until the time of service at 4:30:pm. Bob was born March 17, 1934 in Clio the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Augusta and Edith Betsy Mae (Hursh) Maxson. He and Lena Marie Davis were united in marriage on October 26, 1954. Robert worked for the Buick Motor Division with 40 years of service, retiring in April of 1992. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, the out-of-doors, bowling, woodworking and his family. Surviving are his wife, Marie, 5 children, Rhonda and husband David Hammond of Swartz Creek, Sue Raby of Mt. Morris and Mike Lay, Robert and wife Dagmar Maxson of Colorado Springs, CO, Ronald and wife Vicki Maxson of Clio, Roxanne Maxson and fiancé Darrell Tester of Flint, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers and sisters, special friend, Leon Foley. and many extended family members and friends. Robert was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters.
Dorma Arlene VunCannon
Age 84, of Mt. Morris died July 19, 2001 at McLaren Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Dorma was born March 5, 1917 in Peck the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern and Bertha (Maynard) Morrell. She and Thad VunCannon were united in marriage February 1935, he preceded her in death August 26, 1989. She was a member of Eastside Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Dorma was the first woman Barber in Flint. Her working career included the nursing at St. Joseph Hospital with Dr. Portney's office as a beautician in her mothers beauty shop, and was a foster mother for Michigan Aid Children. After retirement she and her husband moved to Florida in 1971 where she was active in senior groups, hairdressing in her park and at local nursing home. She also joined and became active with the Huff and Puff Support Group and the McLaren Pulmonary Rehab. She enjoyed playing bingo and received great enjoyment from her family. She was a loving friend, grandmother and mother. Surviving are 2 children: Caroline and husband Bob Gring of Mt. Morris; Jim and wife Gloria VunCannon of Mt. Morris; 4 grandchildren: Tom Gring of Davison; Shelley and husband Mike MacDonald of Flint; Steve VunCannon and finace' Jennifer Nugent of Waterford; Cory and wife Jessica VunCannon of Burton; 6 greatgrandchildren: Carl , Michael, Patty, Dylan, Shauna, Mikey; Sister-in-law: Arlene Morrell of Mt. Morris; Several nieces and nephews. Special cousin: Thelma Hamilton; Dorma's family wishes to thank McLaren Hospice and Dr. Barbara Mercer.
Eugene Douglas Stone
Age 77, of Lake City died July 19, 2001 at Autumn Wood Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Dean Dumbrille officiating. Family will received friends 6-9 Sunday, 9-9 Monday. Eugene was born Jan 29, 1924 in Dover, TN., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. and Ora (Riggins) Stone. He and Marguarette H. "Billie" Meeks were united in marriage. She preceded him in death March 29, 1997. He was a veteran of WWII serving US Navy South Pacific, as a Landing Craft Operator during the flag rasing at Iwo Jima. He was awarded 6 battle ribbons signifying the 6 campaigns he took part in. He was a member of operators Union Local, and retired 1989 as a supervisor for Flint Road Builders. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Since 1986 he has lived on his farm at Lake City where he has enjoyed his retirement as a part time farmer. Surviving are 4 children: Shelia Ruth Thomas of Denver, CO.; E. Douglas Stone Jr. of Grayling; Addie Janie and husband Richard Taubitz of Fenton; Priscilla A. Marguarette Stone of Bisby, AZ.; 13 grandchildren: Khristi and husband Anders Suarez of Phoenix, AZ.; Bob Thomas Jr. of Denver, CO.; Kimberly and husband Aaron Hoogenboom of Waterford; Jenny and husband Peter Simmonds of Paris; Joshua and wife Jennifer Caudill of Cadillac; Jackie Gifford and Joadie Gifford both of Mt. Morris; Emily Addie Taubitz , Richard Taubitz III, Bethany Anne Stone Taubitz all of Fenton; Faith Ford; Harold Ford and Marrissa Somoza; 7 great grandchildren: Paige, Cierra, Alasandra, Michael, Isabella, Joshua Paul and Jolie. 5 brothers and Sisters: Hilda Hagaman, Virginia Williams, Diane Stone all of Nashville, TN.; Robert Stone of Grand Blanc; Benjamin Stone of Clarksville, TN.; Sister-in-law: Addie Davidson; Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and oldest brother Billy who died in South Pacific during WWII.
Jessie G. Stadler
Age 94 of Mt. Morris, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Montrose Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at Miles Martin Funeral Home with Hank Messing, Pastoral Associate officiating. Burial at Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends 11:00 am - 9:00pm Friday and 11:00 am until time of service on Saturday. Jessie was born June 5, 1907 in Canada, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse and Ellen (Pryor) Freeman. She and Wallace Stadler were united in marriage March 10, 1924. He preceded her in death April 16, 1987. Jessie was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church in Flint and a life member of Mt. Morris Township Central Fire Department Auxiliary. Surviving are children, Jesse and wife Phyllis Stadler of Mt. Morris, Mabel and husband Raymond Cloutier of Clio, Mildred and husband Meredith Crame of Mecosta, Kathleen and husband Gerald Stadler of Clio, Wayne and wife Judy Stadler of Pueblo West, Co.; 17 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother, John and wife Hilda Freeman of Mt. Morris; sister Iva Jean Turcotte of Ravenna; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wallace, and several sisters and brothers. The family would like to say a Special Thank You to the staff at Montrose Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Jessie.
Emilie Carol Powell
Age 62, of Le Mesa, CA, died Sunday, July 15, 2001 in California. A memorial celebration will be held 2:00 pm Monday from the Miles Martin Funeral Home, Mr. Garfield Cooper officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday from 11:30 am until the time of service. Carol McKee Powell was born in Mt. Morris on September 7, 1938. Surviving are, her husband of 38 years, Pete Powell, daughter, Denise Porter of Carson City, NV, grandson, Shane Michael Porter of Elko, NV, sister, Mary Saltzam of Clio, brother-in-law, Charles D. Saltzam of Clio, nieces, Cheryl Saltzan and Deborah Saltzam of Montrose, nephew, David Saltzam of Mt. Morris.
Gertrude E. Hadeway
Age 81, of Fairgrove, died Sunday, July 15, 2001. Gertrude was born December 27, 1919 in Kilmanaugh the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Emma (Woldt) Ertel. She and John Hadeway were united in marriage November 7, 1942 in Saginaw. Gertrude was a founding member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove serving on many boards, commitees and the Ladies Aid. She was also a founding member of the Board of the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home Auxiliary. Gertrude was active with these groups until her death. Surviving are her husband John; son: Dennis and wife Toni Kay Hadeway; 2 grandchildren: Jon-Garrett and Bryan; sister: Alma Sandall; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Art Holland and Walter and Willard Ertel. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday July 18 from the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove. Pastor Michael Allen officiating with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home-Clark Chapel in Fairgrove on Tuesday from 3-5:00 pm and from 7-9:00 pm. On Wednesday morning Gertrude will be taken to church to lie in state fromm 10:00 am until the time service at 11:00 am.
