Jessie M. Coates
A Memorial Service for Jessie Coates, 94, of Plymouth will be held Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at Risen Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hugh McMartin, chaplain of the Lutheran Home of Livonia, officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Blenheim, Ontario.
Mrs. Coates was born March 26, 1908 in Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada and died Sept. 8 in Livonia. She came to Detroit in 1924 and was active in the women's club of Nativity Lutheran Church and worked as a personal shopper at J.L. Hudson Co.
She moved to Florida upon her husband's retirement from Chrysler and returned to Michigan upon his death. She was a 20-year resident of Plymouth and a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Plymouth. She loved her Main Street apartment, across from the old high school, because all the parades went right by her window. Her apartment was "parade central" for her many family members. She was a constant source of sound advice for her granddaughters on handling the daily stress of life. Examples of her needlework can be found in all of her families homes.
Mrs. Coates was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Coates, in 1974.
Survivors include son, Emerson (Diane) Coates of Plymouth; daughter, Maxine (James) Tudor of Livonia; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mehar Singh, 79, were held Sept. 7 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the funeral procession leaving for White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Mrs. Singh died Sept. 3 at St. Mary Hospital in Livonia

Floyd E. Daugherty
Services for Floyd Daugherty, 70, of Northville, were held Sept. 7 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Frey officiating. Burial was at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Daugherty was born July 27, 1932 in Newberry and died Sept. 4 in Northville. He worked in assembly. He was a member of Plymouth Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Daugherty.
Survivors include wife, Nancy J. Daugherty of Northville; sons, Floyd E. (Debby) Daugherty of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Chris) Daugherty of Twining, and Richard Daugherty of Northville; daughter, Debbie (John) Conrad of Lansing; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Phyllis M. Milton
Services for Phyllis Milton, 87, of Plymouth, were held Sept. 9 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul E. Schaefer officiating. Burial at Oakland Hills Cemetery in Novi.
Mrs. Milton was born June 30, 1915 in Thorold, Ontario, Canada and died Sept. 5 in Plymouth. She was a registered nurse for over 30 years. She worked for the State of Michigan at the Detroit Psychiatric Hospital and the Plymouth State Home. She came to the Plymouth community in 1984 from Detroit. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and of the Grand River Baptist Church in Detroit, now in Livonia. She enjoyed stained glass work, riding her bike across the state, and playing with her beloved pets. She enjoyed traveling and being with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Meryl Milton.
Survivors include daughter, Isabell Sand of Plymouth; foster daughter, Mona Howard Fryman of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Herbert T. Fletcher, Sr.
Services for Herbert Fletcher, 90, of Plymouth were held Sept. 10 at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Bixby officiating. Burial was at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
Mr. Fletcher was born May 10, 1912 in Buena Vista, Pa. and died Sept. 6 in Plymouth. He worked as a power house machinist for 42 years. He came to the Plymouth community in 1947 from Highland. He loved golf and bowling, was an avid sports fan and hockey and football were his favorites.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite.
Survivors include daughters, Flora (David) Hough of Ada and Ellen Hall of Plymouth; son, Herbert T. Jr. (Pauline) of Plymouth; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Wittbrodt of Sterling Heights.

Doris A. Fisher
Services for Doris Fisher, 90, of Westland were held Sept. 3 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with the Rev. John J. Sullivan officiating.
Ms. Fisher was born Nov. 1, 1911 in Cleveland, Ohio and died Aug. 31 in Westland. She was raised in Superior, Wisc. and moved to Plymouth in 1943. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Superior and received her degree from St. Mary Hospital in Superior as a Registered Medical Laboratory Technician.
She attended the Bradbury School of Music in Duluth, Minn., where she received a teaching certificate for piano. She worked for a physician in Plymouth for 20 years. She played morning Mass for Rev. Byrne at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, where she had been a member since 1943. She enjoyed painting, piano and arts and crafts.
Survivors include sister, Anita Vogel of San Antonio, Fla.; sister, Florence C. Levandowski of Livonia; and several nieces and nephews.

Irving J. Stewart
A memorial service for Irving Stewart, 71, of Cincinnati (formerly of Plymouth) will be held Sept. 14 at Glendale Presbyterian Church, 155 E. Fountain, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Stewart, who died Sept. 4 in Cincinnati, grew up in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1949. He had been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1955 with a master of science in engineering degree. He worked for various firms, retiring in 1987 after 22 years with Cincinnati Milacron.
Survivors include wife, Marilyn; three daughters; one son; four grandsons; and brother, Charles.

Dorothy Lee Newman
Services for Dorothy Newman, 81, of Canton were held Sept. 9 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Westland with the Rev. Kurt E. Lambart officiating. Burial was at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia.
Mrs. Newman was born Aug. 27, 1921 in Illinois and died Sept. 5 in Superior Township. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her son, Clif.
Survivors include husband, Clifford Newman; daughters, Carol (James) Waarala and Sandra (Fred) Reid; grandchildren, Kirsten (Tracey), Karrie (Eric), Amy, Erin (Greg); great-grandchildren, Avery, Cameron and Jack; sisters, Arlene (Bob), Elaine (Raul), and Judy (Mario); and brother, James (Susie).

George T. Bauer
Services for George Bauer, 92, of Plymouth, were held Aug. 23 at the Wren Funeral Home in Hastings with the Rev. Willard H. Curtis officiating. Burial was at Hastings Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Bauer was born Aug. 28, 1909 in LeSueur, Minn., and died Aug. 20. He came to Hastings at the age of 3 and attended local schools, graduated Hastings High School, and went on to receive his Doctorate in Chemistry from Michigan State University. He was a captain in the Calvary R.O.T.C. program, gaining national recognition for his fencing expertise leading to his designation as Michigan State's fencing coach. He specialized in the field of air conditioning. He became head of research and development at American Motors Corp. and, after a brief retirement, at Ford Motor Company.
Mr. Bauer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, Hastings Country Club, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Saladin Shrine of Grand Rapids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and tennis, but most of all, he loved people.
Survivors include wife, Frances L. Bauer; children George-Ann, Mary Frances and David; grandchildren Suzanne Black, Michael Bauer, Robert, Patrick, and Scott Golern; and seven great-grandchildren.

Beatrice E. Foster-Van De Car
Services for Beatrice Foster-Van De Car, 91, of Plymouth, were held Sept. 11 at the Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Howard officiating. Burial was at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint.
Mrs. Van De Car was born Oct. 26, 1910 in Hebron, Ind. and died Sept. 7 in Garden City. She worked at GM Diesel during World War II, worked 16 years at Daisy Air Rifle, and owned the Fran Bee's Restaurant in Plymouth. She was a member of the Living Rock Church in Romulus.
Survivors include brother, Carl H. (Margery) Hultquist of Holly; sister, Violet Flaming of Clio; many nieces and nephews; and best friend, Doris Grimes.
