Dorothy A. Mehal
Dorothy Mehal, 87, of Redford Township died Sept. 9, 2002, in Farmington Hills.
She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. She was a retired personnel manager for Jervis B. Webb Company.
Surviving is her husband of 50 years, Frank, and brothers, Frank Brown and Richard Brown.
Memorial tributes may be made to American Diabetes Association or Salvation Army.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were made by Fisher Funeral Home in Redford Township.
James A. Richert
Services for James Richert, 86, of Redford were Sept. 4 in St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.
Mr. Richert was born June 8, 1916, in Bay City, and died Aug. 31, 2002, at his home in Redford. He was a foreman for a spring company.
Surviving are his wife, Helene; children, Pamela (Jerald) Fisher, Craig, Paul and Deborah (Charles) DeGroff; sisters, Mary Lesniak and Jean Hages; and and four grandchldren, Amy, Allison, Peter and Morgan.
Arrangements were made by L.J. Griffin Funeral Home.
Norman F. Peters
A memorial service for Norman Peters, 70, of Redford Township will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in First Baptist Church of Livonia.
Mr. Peters was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Highland Park, and died Aug. 30, 2002, in Redford Township. He lived in this community several years.
He worked in shipping and receiving and was a member of First Baptist Church of Livonia.
Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Sandra.
Arrangements were made by Charles R. Step Funeral Home.
Steven Bruce Mitchell
Steven Mitchell, 46, of Redford Township died Aug. 26, 2002, in Detroit. He was born June 17, 1956, in Detroit.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his son, Nick Mitchell; mother, Myrtle Mitchell; siblings, Paul Mitchell, Sheila Manis, Debbie Sprauer, Robert Neal, Angela Cobbs and Kevin Mitchell.
His sister, Rosemary, preceded him in death.
Burial was at Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were made by Fisher Funeral Home.
Joseph Mallouf
Services for Joseph Mallour, 77, of Redford Township were Aug. 31 in Charles R. Step Funeral Home, with burial at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Officiating was the Rev. Tom Hansen from Bethel Missionary Church of Ferndale.
Mr. Mallouf was born May 12, 1925, in Detroit, and died Aug. 29, 2002, in Farmington Hills. He lived in this community 25 years. He was a mechanic.
Surviving are his sons, Garry and Charles; daughter, Denise (Ben) Brown; sister, Marie Mallouf; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Katie, Jeffrey, Justin and Jason; and one great-grandchild, Austin.
Velma P. Hess
Services for Velma Hess, 97, of Redford will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, in Lola Park Lutheran Church, 14750 Kinloch, Redford, with burial at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
Her body will lie in state 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 29, in Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia.
Mrs. Hess died Aug. 25, 2002.
Surviving are her daughters, Dorothy (Glenn) Barnier and Loraine (Angus) Sutherland; and six grandchildren, Brian (Carol) Barnier, Gregory Barnier, Pamela (John) Hughes, Janet Sutherland, Susan Sutherland and David Sutherland; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hess was preceded in death by her husband, Albert.

Harriette Ann Brown
Services for Harriette Brown, 74, of Livonia were Aug. 28 in Bethel Baptist Temple Church, Livonia. Officiating was the Rev. Max A. Clifton.
Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Jackson, and died Aug. 25, 2002, in Farmington. She lived in Livonia eight years, and was a former resident of Redford.
Mrs. Brown was a custodian for Grace Lutheran Church. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Temple Church and a volunteer with the Awana Program.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel; children, Carolyn (Bob) Mele, Cathy (Vic) Adams, JoAnn Hemming and Jim (Laurie) Brown; sister, Helen (Conley) McMullen; and eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dan (Jennifer), Lawrence, Sean, Kim, Travis, Zachary and Matthew.
Arrangements were made by R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home.
Harry Downs Jr.
Services for Harry Downs Jr., 84, of Redford Township were Aug. 27 in St. Valentine Catholic Church, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Officiating was the Rev. Tom Belzcak.
Mr. Downs was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Detroit, and died Aug. 24, 2002, in Livonia. He lived in this community 50 years and was a member of St. Valentine Church, Redford Township. He was a tool designer/engineer.
Surviving are his wife, Margery; sons, Harry and Walter; daughter, Bonnie (Charles) McArthur; brother, Joseph Downs of Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University). She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Fowler and subsequently in Rapid City, Empire and Rapid River.
Mrs. Hillebrand was a member and board officer of the Council of Catholic Women, Archdiocese of Detroit and a member of the League of Catholic Women and Daughters of Isabella. She was a long time member of St. Mary of Redford parish where she was past president of the Altar Society and head of the altar care committee.
She was a Torch Drive (now United Way) regional chair and volunteered at the Bertha Fisher Home. In 1985 she received the "Take Time to Care" award from the Kiwanis Club No. 1 Detroit and "Volunteer of the Year" in 1988 from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Through RSVP she worked at World Medical Relief and then International Institute, where she tutored students in "English As A Second Language" program.
Mrs. Hillebrand enjoyed music and taught piano in her home over 30 years.
Surviving are her children, Mary Merz of Redford, Frank of Pinckney, Colette Duggan of Trenton and Constance Aligada of St. Paul, Minn.

Norman Leo Bennett
Services for Norman Bennett, 52, of Redford Township were Aug. 21 in Charles R. Step Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Jennifer Bixby.
Mr. Bennett was born July 10, 1950, in Highland Park, and died Aug. 18, 2002, in Redford Township. He lived in this community many years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Northville. He was a process server.
Surviving are his wife, Diane; son, Joseph; daughter, Michelle; brothers, Wesley (Maureen) and Robert Braden; and sister, Sharon (Bill) Buckley.
Harold Lloyd McGrath
Services for Harold McGrath, 75, of Redford Township were Aug. 22 in Charles R. Step Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. J.J. Mech. Burial was Aug. 23 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
Mr. McGrath was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Detroit, and died Aug. 19, 2002, in Farmington Hills. He lived in this community many years and was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Redford Township. He was a produce manager.
Surviving are his wife, Harlean; children, Christopher, Shawn and Brian; and sisters, Dorothy Griener and Beverly Fella.
Frances L. Jankowski
Services for former Redford resident Frances Jankowski, 88, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in Hosanna Tabor Lutheran Church, 9600 Leverne, Redford, with burial at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
Her body will lie in state 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today, Aug. 22, and noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia.
Mrs. Jankowski died Aug. 19, 2002.
Surviving are her sons, Richard (Judith) and Gary (Sally); daughter, Gail (Michael) Horback; sister, Janet Kittendorf; and three grandchildren, Michelle, Jeremy and Michael.
Mrs. Jankowski was preceded in death by her husband, William "Kelly."
William A. Ford
Services for William Ford "Bud" 83, of Redford Township will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in Our Lady of Grace Church, 8679 Riverview, Redford Township, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
His body will lie in state 9:15 a.m. until time of service. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 22, in L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, 7707 Middlebelt, Westland. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. and a Lodge of Sorrow Service at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the funeral home.
Mr. Ford was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Detroit, and died Aug. 18, 2002, at his home in Redford Township. He worked in sales for a linen company and he was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his son, Nelson (Joanne) Burbo; daughter, Carol Ann Burbo; sister, Mary Ann (Tippy) Young; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
