Kent William Wassenaar
Services for Kent Wassenaar, 45, of Salem Township, were held Dec. 23 at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home with the Rev. Drex Morton officiating. Burial was at Lapham Cemetery in Salem Township.
Mr. Wassenaar was born Dec. 19, 1957 in Ann Arbor and died Dec. 20 in Salem Township. He was a dispatcher for R&R Heavy Haulers Trucking Company in Northville. He lived in Salem Township all of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, infantry trained. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son.
Mr. Wassenaar was preceded in death by his father, William E. Wassenaar.
Survivors include wife, Kathy of Salem Township; children, Tammy (Robert) Day of Texas, Kristy Wassenaar of Salem Township, Bryan Wassenaar of Salem Township; grandchildren, David and Haley; mother, Carole Wassenaar of Plymouth; and brother, Randy Wassenaar of Plymouth.

Kenneth John Kobmann
Services for Kenneth Kobmann, 65, of Ocala, Fla., were held. Mr. Kobmann was born in Detroit and died Dec. 20 in Florida.
Mr. Kobmann was the chief executive officer for a machine tool company. He has resided in the Ocala area since June 2002, formerly of Tecumseh. He was a member of Queen of Peach Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include wife, Virginia M. Patte Kobmann of Ocala, Fla.; son, Kirk M. (Helle) Kobmann of Milford; daughter, Kristin M. (Neal) Wylie of Tecumseh; son, Kenneth R. (Susan) Kobmann of Ocala, Fla.; sister, Margaret (John) Brennan of Plymouth; sister, Marilyn Teagan of Milford; granddaughter, Jasmine M. Kobmann of Westland; grandson, Brian M. Frances Lipert
Services for Frances Lipert, 100, of Plymouth were held Dec. 26 at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home with the Rev. Drex Morton officiating. Burial was at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.
Mrs. Lipert was born April 1, 1902 in Bohemia, Ill., and died Dec. 21 in Plymouth. She was a homemaker. She came to the Plymouth community in 1997 from Cicero, Ill. She came to the Chicago community at age 2. She loved to garden and play cards and Bingo. She was a loving grandmother and had a great sense of humor.
Mrs. Lipert was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lipert.
Survivors include daughter, Lorraine Lipert of Cicero, Ill.; granddaughter, Linda (Robert) Cohen of Plymouth; and great-grandsons, Jason Cohen of Plymouth and Jeffrey Cohen of San Francisco.

Harold E. Schoen
Services for Harold Schoen, 81, of Livonia will be held Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lew Towler and Dr. William Lupfer officiating.
Mr. Schoen was born July 22, 1921 in Lansing and died Dec. 22 in Livonia. He was a retired senior accountant for Michigan Bell/Ameritech. He came to the Plymouth-Livonia community in 1954 from Ann Arbor. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Plymouth, where he served on the vestry and was treasurer.
He was a life member of the Plymouth Elks, life member of the Ann Arbor Masonic Order, member of the Livonia Republican Club, and member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a naval aviator, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy who retired during World War II. He was a recruiter for the U.S. Naval Academy, and was on the advisory committee for the Livonia Public Schools. He was also on the advisory committee and helped develop Schoolcraft College.
Mr. Schoen was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Schoen; and son, Harold E. "Chip" Schoen, Jr.
Survivors include son, Phillip C. (Michelle) Schoen of Westland; grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Schoen of Dearborn, Karen Schoen of Kalamazoo, Matthew and Jessica Schoen of Arizona, and Shemia Cain of Ypsilanti; great-grandchildren, Trinity Skye Schoen of Arizona; sister, Minta (Robert) McCurley of Rochester; brother, Lawrence (Ella Jayne) Schoen of Mason; and daughter-in-law, Ophelia Schoen of Ypsilanti.

Joseph G. Strong
Services for Joseph Strong, 50, of Canton were held Dec. 23 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. Drex Morton officiating.
Mr. Strong was born April 13, 1952 in Detroit and died Dec. 19 in Livonia. He was a laborer.
Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Betty Strong.
Survivors include brother, Steven (Kathy) Strong of Canton and nephews Eric and David Strong.

Walter Ward White
Services for the Rev. Walter White, former minister at Summersville Presbyterian Church, were held Dec. 29 at the Summersville Presbyterian Church.
Rev. White died Dec. 21 at Summersville Memorial Hospital following complications from pneumonia. After leaving Summersville in 1965, Rev. White and his family moved to Cross Lanes, W.Va., where he was the minister of Perrow Presbyterian Church. Later he accepted a position as executive director of Mariner's Inn, a social agency of the Episcopal Diocese in Detroit. During a whitewater rafting trip down the New River in 1984, Rev. White suffered a stroke. He and his family returned to Summersville in 1986.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen; children, Kimberly Hill of Shawnee, Okla., Walter White of North Port, Ala., Susan White of Plymouth, Thomas White of Wilmington, N.C., William White of Portland, Ore. and Amy Zhouf of Asheville, N.C.; brother, James Randolph White of Calhoun, Ga; and grandchildren, Justin Hill, Ashley Hill, Chelsea Tripp, Nicholas Tripp, Christopher Leach, Walter White and Thomas Jackson White.
Mary Rebecca Beardsley
Services for Mary Beardsley, 85, of Westland were held Dec. 27 at Vermeulen Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Joy officiating. Burial was at Andersonville Cemetery in Davisburg.
Mrs. Beardsley was born July 9, 1917 in Bluefield, W. Va. and died Dec. 22 at Hope Nursing Care Center. She was a nurse's aid. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wayne.
Mrs. Beardsley was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Beardsley.
Survivors include son, Russell B. (Janet) Beardsley of Florida; daughter, Donna G. Durigon of Canton; son, Kenneth W. (Mary) Beardsley of Canton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Clarence Partin
Clarence Partin died Dec. 6 in Ann Arbor. At his request, no services were held, but his children will scatter his ashes over Cumberland Gap, his childhood home.
Born in Middlesboro, Ky., on May 4, 1937, Clarence attended school in Kentucky through fifth grade, then moved to Ann Arbor with his widowed mother, Ella Partin, graduating from Ann Arbor High School in 1955.
On Dec. 6, 1957, he married Evelyn Edna Schorling, whom he met while attending Eastern Michigan University. They had three children: Lynn Diane Partin, born in 1958; Jean Ann Partin, born in 1959; and Gary David Partin, born in 1961.
Mr. Partin graduated from EMU with a bachelor's degree in 1961, and, in 1967, earned a master's degree. He owned the Partin Building Company for several years, then taught industrial arts in the Livonia Public Schools. He was instrumental in developing the building trades program in the Wayne-Westland Public School system, a program that was unique in that it was self-supporting. It taught high school students to build homes that the school district then sold to support the costs of the next year's program.
Mr. Partin had a wide range of interests, including covered bridges, old barns, antique tools and collecting and restoring antique cars. In college he raced his stock car, Number 139, on the track at Flat Rock.
Mr. Partin was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Partin; his mother, Ella Mae Bennett Partin Ludwig and her husband Louis Karl Ludwig; his aunt Cassie Deon Brassfield and her husband Eugene Brassfield; and his brothers Johnny King Partin and Walden Partin.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Bill Holmes) Partin of Portland, Ore., and Jean Partin of Dover, N.H.,; son Gary (Victoria) Partin and grandchildren Brandon and Magen Partin, all of Canton.

David C. Farlow
Services for David Carey Farlow, 80, of Walled Lake, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Farlow was born April 8, 1922 in North Carolina and died Dec. 28, 2002 at Huron Valley/Sinai Hospital.
He is survived by his nieces, Carolyn Zahnow, Lynda Park, and Terry Beaune. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys.

Howard C. Youngs
Services for Howard C. Youngs, 75, formerly of Farmington, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 5 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. William Brown officiating.
Mr. Youngs was born Jan. 6, 1927 in Detroit and died Jan. 1, 2003 at Angela Hospice in Livonia. He worked as a boiler operator for Ford Motor Company and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was an avid Tiger Baseball and NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Susan Campbell and Melissa (Jim) Youngs-Misaros; brother, Daniel; sisters, Norma Smith and Patricia Glauser; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Erika and Jordan.

Marie F. Banhagel
Marie Frieda Banhagel, 89, of Farmington Hills, died Jan. 1, 2003 at Charter House in Novi.
Mrs. Banhagel was born Jan. 30, 1913 in Detroit. She worked as a medical secretary at Harper Hospital and was a member of Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth (Harold) Fiedler; nieces, Barbara Stewart, Patricia Klepsch and Marilyn Francis; and nephew, Edward Nagel Jr.

Lewis C. Hopkin
Services for Lewis C. Hopkin, 71, of Farmington Hills, were held Dec. 23, 2002 at Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Carol Johns officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hopkin died Dec. 20, 2002. He worked as an auditor for the State of Michigan and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Orchard United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills.

Patricia Ruth (Miller) Moody
A memorial service for Patricia Moody, 71, of Livonia, was held Jan. 3, 2003 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Canton, which included the bagpiper from the St. Andrews Society of Detroit.
Mrs. Moody died Dec. 22, 2002.
Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth (Miller) Granger; and brother, Leo Miller.

Lula E. Berry
Services for Lula Berry, 89, of Plymouth, were held Dec. 28 at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Klump officiating.
Mrs. Berry was born July 10, 1913 in Traverse City and died Dec. 25 in Garden City. She worked on the assembly line at the Burroughs Corp. of Plymouth for 33 years, retiring in 1975. She came to the Plymouth Township community in 1978 from Plymouth. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Plymouth and the Vivian Auxiliary of the Plymouth Elks. She enjoyed ceramics and had a cottage in East Tawas.
Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Arthur W. Berry.
Survivors include nieces, Janet Gennette of St. Clair Shores and Wanda Krause of Arizona; nephew, Jerry Harder of Plymouth; and several other nieces and nephews.

Robert W. Lyttle
Private services for Robert Lyttle, 79, of Plymouth were held Dec. 27 at the Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William C. Moore officiating.
Mr. Lyttle was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Manistee and died Dec. 22 in Plymouth. He was a manager for the phone company. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include wife, Carol E. Lyttle of Plymouth; son, Marshall J. Lyttle of New York; son, Stephen (Tracy) Lyttle of Mt. Pleasant; son, James (Sheryl) Lyttle of St. Helen; daughter, Barbara (Gary) Price of Bourbon, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
