Elton C. Bierschbach

Services for Elton Charles Bierschbach, 81, of Farmington Hills, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at Church of St. Alexander in Farmington Hills with the Rev. James Wright officiating. Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m. today, Dec. 22 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington.

Mr. Bierschbach was born Jan. 31, 1921 in Beal City, and died Dec. 19, 2002 in Farmington Hills. He worked as a crane operator for Detroit Crane and once lifted an airplane out of the Farmington A&P roof. He was a member of the International Engineers #324 and an American Legion volunteer. Mr. Bierschbach was a farmer from April through October and also worked as a ship builder in Saginaw during the winter.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Dale (Gail), David and Dennis; grandchildren, Dale Jr., Cristopher and Connie; and sister, Irene Shafer.

Davey S. Lipke

Davey S. Lipke, 52, of Belleville, died Dec. 18, 2002 in Belleville.

Mr. Lipke was born Feb. 8, 1950 in Detroit. He worked as an assembler for the auto industry.

He is survived by his sons, Dale and Chris; brothers, Dann (Diane) and Morey Jr. (Sharon); sisters, Betty (Steve) Wereb and Colleen Lipke; and several nieces and nephews.

Renaldy Michnewicz

Services and burial for Renaldy Michnewicz, 84, of Livonia, were held Dec. 20 at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Saad officiating.

Mr. Michnewicz was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Detroit and died Dec. 19, 2002 at Heartland Health Care Center - Dorvin in Livonia. He owned Renaldy's White China Shop in Troy.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Paula McCammon; nephew, Gerald; and niece, Geraldine. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Clara J. Crossmyer

Services for Clara Julia Crossmyer, 87, of Farmington Hills, were held Dec. 20 at St. Gerald's Catholic Church in Farmington with the Rev. Gerald McEnhill and Rev. Robert Crossymyer officiating.

Ms. Crossmyer was born July 8, 1915 in St. Louis, Mo. and died Dec. 17, 2002 at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills. She worked as an interior decorator.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald Crossmyer; sister, Margaret Thoma; nephew, Rev. Robert Crossmyer CP; and niece, Barbra (Brian) Reis. She is preceded in death by her brother, Elmer; and nephew, Michael.

Kin Ming Chin

Services for Kin Ming Chin, 80, of of Farmington Hills, were held Dec. 20 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Mark Kieft officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Livonia.

Mr. Chin was born Aug. 28, 1923 in Canton, China and died Dec. 17, 2002 at Providence Hospital in Southfield. He was the owner of the China Gate Restaurant in West Bloomfield and Kin Ming Importing Company in Detroit. Mr. Chin was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Chinese Benevolent Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Dixon (Cynthia) and Ben (Judy); daughters, Frieda (Robert) Boudreau and Jenny (Doug) Chin-Spicer; and five grandchildren.

Mary M. McAtee

Services for Mary Marie McAtee, 80, of Rochester, were held Dec. 21 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Tom Belczak officiating. Burial followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.

Mrs. McAtee was born March 12, 1922 in Detroit and died Dec. 18, 2002 at Heartland Health Care Center - Dorvin in Livonia. She worked as a waitress and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

She is survived by her sisters, Rose (Joseph) Impellitier and Virginia Kemmreling; nephew, George (Stephanie) Buhalis; niece, Penny (Mike) Jaksim; and several other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Gusta D. Edwards

Services for Gusta Donna Edwards, 81, of Farmington, were held Dec. 19 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Mark Kleft officiating. Burial took place at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.

Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 9, 1921 in Stratton, Va. and died Dec. 17, 2002 at Providence Hospital in Southfield. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, James (Cindy); daughter, Pamela (Kenneth) Starling; sister, Lillie Murphy; grandchildren, Becki (Nick) Siefert, Maria Starling and David Starling; and great-grandchildren, Nick Siefert, Heather Hyatt and Nick Hyatt. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, son, Kenneth and grandson, Jason.

Elmer C. Zibell

Services for Elmer Clarence Zibell, 88, of Farmington Hills, were held Jan. 4 at Holy Family Church in Novi with the Rev. John Budde officiating.

Mr. Zibell was born April 19, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio and died Dec. 31, 2002 at Botsford Continuing Care Center in Farmington Hills. He worked as a national sales manager for Rolled Alloys in Detroit and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Royal Oak. He was also a member of the Elks lodges in Clawson and Troy. Mr. Zibell was a master gardener and a former Boy Scout and Scout leader.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Charles (Sara), John "Jack" (Ginny) and Wayne (Linda); daughter, Debra (Thomas) Frisk; and grandchildren, John (Michelle) Zibell, David Zibell, Anne Zibell, Scott Frisk, Alison Frisk and Julie (Jason) Gentile.

Services for Mary M. Elliott, 62, formerly of Farmington Hills, were held Jan. 3 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Ronald Browne officiating. Burial followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.

Mrs. Elliott was born April 1, 1940 in Detroit and died Dec. 28, 2002 in Brighton. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons, Donald (Cindy) and Craig (Lorie); brother, John (Sue) Vagonis; sister, Jean Linart; and three grandchildren.

Ailie Wilson

Services for Ailie Wilson, 82, of Farmington Hills, were held Jan. 3 at McCabe Funeral Home in Farmington Hills.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Duluth, Minn. and died Dec. 31, 2002 in Farmington Hills. She worked as a bookkeeper/clerk for Kmart Corporation.

She is survived by her sons, John and Steve (Rose); daughters, Carol (Richard) Brahm and Edythe (William) Green-Parry; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John.

Matthew Holliday Carver

Services for Matthew Holliday Carver, 6 months, of Garden City were held December 28 in the L.J. Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Smith of First United Methodist Church of Garden City officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Hills Cemetery.

Matthew was born July 14, 2002 in Detroit. He died December 24 in Garden City.

He is survived by parents Thomas and Brigitte Carver; sisters Mariah and Madison; grandparents John and Ann Carver and Dennis Ellison; great-grandparents Betty Taylor, Ben (Evelene) Wincent and Donald (Ruth) Ray Sr.; and several aunts and uncles.

Arrangements were made by the L.J. Griffin Funeral Home of Westland.

Aaron T. Harris, Jr.

Services for Aaron T. Harris, Jr., 55, of Garden City were held Dec. 23 at Grand River Baptist Church of Livonia with Rev. Urias Beverly officiating.

Mr. Harris was born Feb. 10, 1947, in South Bend, Ind. He died Dec. 17, 2002, in Garden City. He was a mechanic for the Post Office and a member of Grand River Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by father Aaron T. Harris, mother Annie Bell Harris and daughter Aleisha S. Harris.

Survivors include wife Debra L. Harris of Garden City; sons Aaron T. Harris, III, of Washington, D.C., Avery T. Harris of Stone Mountain, Va., and Anthony T. Harris of Detroit; step-sons Dennis M. Holt of Taylor and Jamey D. Tomblin of Brownstown Township, Mich.; brother Bruce A. Harris of South Bend, Ind., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Barbara J. Perttunen

Services for Barbara Perttunen, 65, of Livonia were Dec. 15 in R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home in Livonia. Officiating was the Rev. Fred Misiolek from St. Raphael Catholic Church.

Mrs. Perttunen was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, and died Dec. 13, 2002. She lived in Livonia for 19 years. She was a medical secretary in a hospital.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry; children, Christopher (Mary) Perez, Dianne (Craig) Trosien, Donna Gritu and Mark Perez; sister, Loretta Seychel; and nine grandchildren, Crystal, Robin, Madonna, Nicholas, Zachary, Kailee, Breanna, Joshua and Victoria.

Doris H. Reaume

Services for Doris Reaume, 72, of Garden City were Dec. 10 in Uht Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Gary Moore.

Mrs. Reaume was born March 11, 1930, and died Dec. 6, 2002, at her home in Garden City. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her children, Linda (Ferlen) Putman, Susan White, Jackie (Robert) Page, Keith Reaume and Vickie (Earl) Trotter; siblings, Oraie Moore Jr., Carl Moore, Gloria Teale, Thomas Moore, the Rev. Gary Moore, Dennis Moore and William Moore; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Reaume was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford; son, Donald (Dee) Jarvis; and siblings, Charles Moore, Arnold Moore; Mary Moore and Sharon Bufford.

Jack M. Smith

Services for Jack Smith, 72, of Garden City were Dec. 16 in John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Kentucky, and died Dec. 12, 2002, in Garden City. He was owner of Regal Market in Westland 1968-1993.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley; sons, Ronald (Laurie) Smith, Michael (Jacqueline) Smith and Keith (Helen) Smith; brothers, John Smith and Warner Smith; sisters, Wanda McReynolds, Norma Freeman and Jean Aston; and grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Shawn, Holly, Nicole, David, Jeremy and Ryan.

Emily M. Adams

Services for Emily Adams, 88, of Dearborn Heights were held Dec. 16 at St. Kenneth Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Mallia officiating. Burial was at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.

Mrs. Adams was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Detroit and died Dec. 13, 2002, in Livonia. She was an owner/ operator of Michael's Bar in Detroit for 50 years. For the last eight years, she worked for Jennie's Pierogi's in Garden City. She loved working at the bar and then later at the Pierogi Shop.

She came to the Dearborn Heights community in 1965 from Detroit. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Detroit and St. Anselm Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights.

She loved gardening flowers and vegetables. In 2001, she won an award certificate for the flowers she planted around her home in Dearborn Heights. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed family gatherings. Her No. 1 hobby was flowers.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband John, who was retired chief of the Detroit Fire Department arson division.

Survivors include daughter, Ilene (Zenner) Grzegorek of Media, Pa.; son, John (Carolyn) Adams of Plymouth Township; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Richard W. Jackson

Services for Richard Jackson, 81, of Dearborn Heights were Dec. 12 in Christus Victor Lutheran Church, Dearborn Heights. Officiating was the Rev. Kurt R. Radke.

Mr. Jackson was born June 28, 1921, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and died Dec. 8, 2002, in Detroit. He was an engineer.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; sons, Michael (Bonnie) Jackson, Bruce (Debbie) Jackson and Richard (Nancy) Jackson; and four grandchildren.

Family members reside in Garden City and Westland.

Services for George Galster, 83, of Garden City were Dec. 10 in Our Lady of Grace Church with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Mr. Galster was born April 3, 1919, in Detroit, and died Dec. 6, 2002, in Livonia. He was a draftsman for a fabricating company.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Ann; children, Maureen (Christopher) Kuclo, June (Robert) Schuster, George and Priscilla (John) Shay; and seven grandchildren.

Nello T. Liogghio

Services for former Garden City resident Nello Liogghio, 89, of Riverview were Dec. 7 in John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Officiating was the Rev. Frederick Misiolek from St. Raphael Catholic Church.

Mr. Liogghio was born May 27, 1913, in Casalvieri, Italy, and died Dec, 4, 2002, in Trenton. He was a tinsmith.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia, the owner of Garden City Florist; step-children, John (Helen) Borsodi and Mary (Douglas) Winkler; brother, Adam Legghio; sister, Millie (William) Marrocco; five grandchildren, Alesia Mungons, John and Daniel Borsodi, Bradley and Kevin Winkler; and three great-grandchildren.

Otis Lackey Jr.

Services for Otis Lackey, Jr., 72, of Garden City were Dec. 12 in John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. Jerome K. Smith from First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Lackey was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Batesville, Ark., and died Dec. 8, 2002, in Garden City. He worked in maintenance.

Surviving are his wife, Mae; children, Jackie (Thomas) Taub, Bradd Lackey, Kim (Cary) Even and Dawn (Carter) Dunham; brothers, Jerry and Lloyd; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Michael Seaman

Services for Michael Seaman, 67, of Farmington Hills were Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia with the Rev. Larry Austin officiating.

Mr. Seaman was born June 10, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, and died Nov. 25, 2002, in Farmington Hills. He was a tool maker and worked for Bradley Thompson Manufacturing. He retired from there in 1997. He formerly owned his own tool shop and boring shop.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou; children Michael (Jane) and Kenneth (Lori), both of Garden City; and Cathy (William) Schultz of Pearl Harbor, Fla.; brother Jerry Seaman of Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington handled the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Detroit Chapter, 17220 W. 12 Mile, Ste. 100, Southfield, MI 48076.

Willie E. McFarland

Service for Willie E. McFarland of Garden City were Nov. 30 at Harris Funeral Home in Garden with the Pastor Wayne Parker officiating.

Mr. McFarland was born on April 16, 1918, in Harlan, Ky., and died Nov. 27, 2002, at Arbor Hospice. He was 84.

Mr. Harlan worked from A&P as a checker in the warehouse. A World War II veteran, he also was a Baptist minister and a member of Teamsters Local No. 33.

He is survived by a daughter, Vickie (Michael) Estep; grandchildren D'Ann (Bill) Anguish and Brett; great-grandchildren Dalton and Reece; sister Mary (Reed) Burton; brothers Flint (Betty) Hyatt and Kenny Ray (Joan) Hyatt and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, and a son, Robert.
