Darlene Marie Houdek
Services for former Livonia resident Darlene Houdek, 39, of Canton were held July 24 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. Andy Webster officiating.
Mrs. Houdek was born Aug. 17, 1962 in Davenport, Iowa, and died July 20 at her home. She was a graduate of Wayne State University in 1984. She had been employed at Grant Thornton CPA until 1989 when she retired to be a homemaker. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a champion athlete, enjoying soccer, softball, and downhill skiing, She enjoyed Scrabble, Euchre, Red Wings Hockey and good times with family, friends, and "THE DAVES".
She was preceded in death by brother, Dale Bowers.
Survivors include husband of 17 years, Tom G. Houdek of Canton; children, Jeffrey, Jamie and Jacqueline; parents, Dr. Leslie (Shirley) Bowers of Livonia; in-laws, Tom (Wanda) Houdek of Canton; brothers, Mark (MaryAnn) Bowers of Livonia, Derick (Sandy) Bowers of Salem, and Dean (Lisa) Bowers of Livonia; sisters, Marilyn (Greg) Melvin of Livonia, Lesley Russell of Livonia, Holly (Tom) Burr of Livonia, and Tina Bowers of Northville.

Keith D. Baughman
Services for Keith D. Baughman, 80, of Karlin (formerly of Plymouth) were held July 23 at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City with the Rev. Dr. Homer Nye officiating.
Mr. Baughman was born Jan. 24, 1922 in Nesson City. He served his country honorably during World War II as a sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an aviation machinist with Bombing Squadron 611 in the Philippines and still kept in contact with the men in his unit. He was a member of the Copemish American Legion, Read-Osborne Post 531. After earning a bachelor of science degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1950, he taught wood shop and welding at Plymouth High School. He led the boys track team to regional and state championships as their head coach for 17 years. His positive influence on so many young men's lives is a legacy which will live on beyond his years. After receiving a master of arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1954, he kept friendships with "the college crowd," a group of men who had studied together. He was always interested in life, enjoying fishing, reading about history and mystery, collecting ancestral photographs and watching the birds and other wildlife that surround his home. He especially loved spending time with his child and grandchildren who will miss his gourmet molasses cookies and stories of the past.
Mr. Baughman was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Donald Alderman; and daughter, Lisa Valerie Baughman.
Survivors include wife, Louise G. Peck; daughter, Linda Alderman of Traverse City; grandchildren, Marc Alderman and fiance, Dede Cronin of Interlochen, Lara (Jeff) Kelley of Vancouver, B.C.; step-grandchildren, Shan (Todd) Bowens of Battle Creek, Maya (Jeff) Kassab of Traverse City, Chay (Holly) Gray of Grawn; step-great-grandchildren, Trent and Mknzie; brother, Robert Baughman of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Joseph Kos
Services for Robert Kos, 66, of Plymouth were held July 19 at the Vermeulen Funeral Home with Rev. D.J. West officiating. Burial was at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills.
Mr. Kos was born Feb. 2, 1936 in Detroit and died July 15 in Plymouth. He lived in Plymouth for the past 13 years, after spending several years in Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga. He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Detroit. He retired from the Ford Motor Company, where he was an accountant. Mr. Kos enjoyed reading and travel, as well as home rebuilding and remodeling. He was the proud father of four children and six grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Betty P. Phillips of Plymouth; sons, Philip M. (Kathy) Kos of Livonia, Jeffrey M. (Sheryl) Phillips of Plymouth, and Mark R. (Julie) Phillips of Redford; daughter, Lynn M. (John) Thiry of Whitmore Lake; brothers, Leonard Kos of Los Angeles, Richard Kos of Southgate; sisters, Theresa Kos of Los Angeles and Valerie Routin; granddaughters, Heidi Phillips of Plymouth and Michele Kos of Livonia; grandsons, Jeffry, Brett and Benjamin Phillips of Plymouth, and Daniel Phillips of Redford; and several nieces and nephews.

Darryl Bartlett
Services for Darryl Bartlett, 54, of Wixom will be held July 25 at Phillips Funeral Home in South Lyon.
Mr. Bartlett was born Oct. 6, 1947 in Detroit and died July 21. He lived in Westland before moving to Wixom. He loved sports, spending time at Camp Dearborn in Milford and enjoyed talking to people. One of his favorite sayings was, "He never met a stranger he didn't like."
Survivors include wife, Jenny Bartlett of Wixom; mother, Patricia Bartlett of California; brother, Michael Bartlett of California; stepchildren, Clyde Findley, Donald (LuAnn) Findley of Westland, Debbie Findley of Canton, and Sheri Thieleman of Canton; grandchildren, Tiana, Donald, Tyler, Amber, Amanda, Austin, Dylan and Danielle; and many loving friends.

Bernice Elizabeth Hubbell
Services for Bernice Hubbell, 98, of Commerce Township, were held July 31 at MacDonald's Funeral Home in Howell with burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Howell.
Mrs. Hubbell was born May 16, 1904 in Freeland, Mich. and died July 27 in Commerce Township. She is a retired Chief Bookkeeper at National Bank of Detroit in the Plymouth branch. She was a life member of the Howell Chapter 372 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Ferris State College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Lewis Hubbell in 1972; and sisters, Sadie Graves and Mary Slosser.
Survivors include son, Geoffrey (Karen) Hubbell of Howell; daughter, Suzanne Haas of Commerce Township; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia King of Midland.

Mrs. Zdan was born June 18, 1941 in Detroit and died July 27 at Arbor Hospice. She was a secretary.
Survivors include husband, William; daughters, Jeanni (Shawn) Munday, and Andrea (Ryan) Nowak; brother, William (Kat); granddaughter, Alison; brother, Robert (Ruth) Bollinger, and sister, Robin (Alan) Smith.

Laura Elizabeth Weir
Services for Laura Weir, 28, of Canton were held July 29 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. Andrew Webster officiating. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
Laura was born May 29, 1976 in Ypsilanti and died July 25 at Angela Hospice. She lived in Canton for 26 years. She was an elementary school teacher at St. Mary School in Wayne, All Saints School in Canton, Tonda Elementary in Canton, plus numerous substitute positions in Plymouth-Canton and Livonia School districts. She held a bachelor of arts degree and Michigan teaching certificate from Grand Valley State University. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, Huron Valley Council troop leader, camp counselor, member of St. John Neumann Praise Choir and St. John Newmann Young Adult Group. She was awarded Outstanding Leader in 2001-G.S.H.V.C. She enjoyed reading, dance (ballet), and collecting doll house miniatures.
Survivors include parents, Robert (Barbara) Weir of Canton; sisters, Jennifer (Kenneth) Meyers of Lake Orion and Kelly Weir of Canton; brothers, Rob Weir of Canton and Kevin Weir of Canton; grandmother, Elizabeth G. Sandra Lee Scharmen
Services for Sandra Scharmen, 55, of Plymouth were held July 27 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kenneth F. Gruebel officiating.
Mrs. Scharmen was born Oct. 21, 1946 in Detroit and died July 23 at University Hospital. She was employed as a collection manager. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.
Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Paxton.
Survivors include husband, Charles F. Scharmen of Plymouth; father, John S. Paxton of South Lyon; son, Michael A. Scharmen of Belleville; daughters, Tracy L (Roland) Feria of Redford and Amy M.
