Esther Wells
Services for Esther Wells, 81, of Farmington Hills, were held Sept. 17 at St. Gerald Catholic Church in Farmington with the Rev. Gerald McEnhill officiating. Burial took place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
Mrs. Wells was born July 21, 1921 in Detroit and died Sept. 13, 2002 at Botsford Continuing Health Center in Farmington Hills. She worked as a press operator for Yale Stamping.
She is survived by her sons, David Lee, and Donald; daughter, Sophie (Larry) LaFave; brother, Teddy Jasinski; grandchildren, Patricia, Margaret and Edward; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren.

Harry O. Smart
A memorial gathering for Harry Osburn Smart, C.L.U., 83, of Farmington Hills, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Botsford Commons in Farmington Hills, in the town commons building.
Mr. Smart was born Aug. 22, 1919 in Detroit, the son of Frederick and Marie Smart, and died Sept. 15, 2002. He owned and operated Smart Radio in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama. While an officer in the Army Air Force, he completed an engineering science and management training course at Harvard University.
Mr. Smart joined Equitable of Iowa (now part of ING group) in 1947. He was head of the Detroit agency and earned membership in 16 organization clubs, eight president clubs and received the National Quality Award 19 times and was named Master Agency Builder in 1968. He was a graduate of the Purdue University in Life Insurance Marketing and Agency Management program.
Mr. Smart's hobbies were amateur radio, woodworking, fishing and boating. Upon retirement at 57, he built his own home in Northport, Mich. on Grand Traverse Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Celesta; children, Stanton and Sylvia; brothers, Gerry Smart and Arnold Thomson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Penny Conn
A service of remembrance for Penny Conn, 75, of Farmington Hills, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Antioch Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills.
Mrs. Conn died Aug. 31, 2002. She grew up in Dover, Ohio and earned a college degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She and her family moved to the Farmington area in 1960 and she earned a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. Mrs. Conn worked as a geriatric social worker affiliated with Farmington Hills Counseling Services from 1983 until her illness last year.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles; son, Steve (Jane); daughter, Marianne (Perry) Westhaus; and five grandchildren

Charles H. Adkins
Services for Charles H. Adkins, 87, of Farmington, were held Sept. 14 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Dick Schmidt officiating. Burial took place at Oakland Hills Cemetery in Novi.
Mr. Adkins was born Aug. 26, 1915 in Missouri and died Sept. 11, 2002 in Farmington. He worked as a machine repairman for General Motors/Cadillac Motor Company and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a life member of VFW Post 3941 in Livonia and enjoyed playing on a pool league.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Anthony) Kolodziejczak; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is prececed in death by his wife, Adeline.

Eino C. Salo
Services for Eino Carl Salo, 83, of Novi, were held Sept. 14 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Dr. Elmer Liimatta officiating. Burial took place at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
Mr. Salo was born Feb. 2, 1919 in Rudyard, Mich. and died Sept. 10, 2002 at Huron Valley/Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township. He worked as a general manager for Burroughs Corporation (now known as Unisys) and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the VFW in Northville.
He is survived by his sons, William (Dawn), Richard, Clifford (Linda), Robert and Raymond (Mary Beth); daughters, Carolyn Hairston and Sherry Lee (Ron) Bierbaum; sister, Sylvia Hack; and grandchildren, Douglas, Daniel, Eric, Christopher, Katie, Angelica and Elizabeth. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen.

Kevin L. Franklin
Services for Kevin Lee Franklin, 39, formerly of Farmington, were held Sept. 14 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Saad officiating. Burial took place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
Mr. Franklin was born Sept. 10, 1963 in Detroit and died Sept. 10, 2002 at St. Michael Nursing Center in Detroit. He worked in the restaurant industry.
He is survived by his sisters, Martha Severson, Karen Jarvis and Linda Petiprin; and brothers, Ernest, Kenneth and Duane Franklin. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Ernest and nephew, James.
Dorothy S. Kastelic
Private services were held for Dorothy S. Kastelic, 86, formerly of Farmington Hills.
Mrs. Kastelic was born Jan. 1, 1916 in Calumet and died Sept. 8, 2002 in Livonia.
She is survived by her son, Frank Jr.; and daughter, Dorothy Longshore. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank.

Paul R. Michaud
Services for Paul Roger Michaud, 63, of Sterling Heights, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 12 at St. Alexander Church in Farmington Hills with the Rev. Robert McGrath officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
Mr. Michaud was born Oct. 28, 1938 in Detroit and died Sept. 8, 2002 in Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He worked as a Franklin Bank sales representative and a member of the Greater Detroit and the Southfield Chambers of Commerce. He was also a member of the BMI Networking Group and the Catholic Central High School Alumni Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Tim) Simpson; sister, Lilah (Frank) Smith; companion, Dorothy Rekowski; nieces, Denise and Dianna Smith; and his former wife, Kathy Michaud-Sheeny.

Elizabeth B. Utley

Mrs. Utley was born Oct. 25, 1913 in Troy and died Aug. 31, 2002 at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Robert (Carol); daughter, Sheryl (Jon) Hartman; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Jean Hagan
Services for Betty Jean Hagan, 81, of Livonia, were held Sept. 5 at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Jennifer Saad officiating.
Mrs. Hagan was born May 20, 1921 in Detroit and died Sept. 2, 2002 at Alterra Nursing Home in Farmington Hills. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Howlett "Bud"; sons, Robert (Chris), William (Dianne), Bradford (Liz) and Brian (Cheryl); sister, Barbara Tubbs; brother, Jim Reynolds; grandchildren, Kelley, Stacy, Andrew, Brad, Adam, Brian, Paul and Marc; and three great-grandchildren.
