ARMENTROUT, Mae LaFawn

Mae LaFawn Pries, the daughter of Cassie and Lillian (Silverwood) Armentrout, was born on March 2, 1915, on a farm near Botna, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Irwin United Methodist Chruch and attended school at Kirkman, Iowa.
On April 18, 1932, Mae was united in marriage to Joe Pries at Omaha, Nebraska. One child was born to this union, Charlene. After their marriage, Mae and Joe resided in Botna and Irwin, while Joe was employed by Shelby County as a maintenance operator. After several years, they farmed on the Ernest Will and Dorothy Beh Farms until 1949, when Mae and Joe had a farm sale and moved to Irwin, Iowa where Joe owned and operated a trucking business. In 1950, Mae and Joe purchased the Irwin Locker from Abe Meyers, which they operated for thirteen years. After selling the business to Richard Sorenson, Mae continued to work there. Later, Mae and Joe accepted employment at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa. Joe died following open heart surgery on January 13, 1974.
Mae enjoyed quilting, crocheting and making quilts and playing pinochle at the Senior Center. She also liked to visit her daughter in Denison and help her son-in-law repair his farm equipment by picking up parts. She was a member of the Irwin United Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle in Irwin, Iowa.
Mae died on January 25, 2002 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-six years, ten months, and twenty-three days. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, a grandson, Billy Joe, and a brother, Earl. Survivors include her daughter, Charlene and her husband William Gehring of Denison, Iowa; a granddaughter, Tonya Rateau; two great-grandchildren, Travis Cipreana and his wife, Joan of Hampton, Virginia; Holly Russell of Hampton, Virginia; her brother, Alvin "Buck" Armentrout and his wife, Betty Lou, of Irwin, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at the Irwin United Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m. with Tom Gaer officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery in Irwin, Iowa with Bill Brue, Bill McMahon, Lyle Campbell, and Donald Kutnink serving as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were Hal Youngkin, Randall Armentrout, Walter Murray, Richard Schwieso, Dick Sorensen, and Allyn Bartelson. The Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
ZAGE, Adela Margaret
Adela Margaret Holtman was born August 27, 1916, the daughter of Bernard and Dora Jepsen Zage. She died at the Denison Care Center, Denison, Iowa, Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at the age of eighty-two. Adela was born on a farm in Hanover Township, near Schleswig, Iowa and was baptized in Christ, September 5, 1920 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shleswig and later confirmed there on March 20, 1932. She received her education at a rural school in Hanover Township. On January 8, 1939, Adela was united in marriage to Carl Holtman at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm south of Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. They also farmed east of Schleswig until 1955, at which time they had a farm sale and moved to Denison. Adela worked as a clerk at the Hyde's Variety Store, then she went to work for Jim O'Harren. She was employed by Pioneer Finance Company in Denison, at the J.C. Penney Store and later owned and operated the Made-O-Day Store for five years and subsequently working for Jim Streck at the Paint and Paper Store. Adela was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, their Dorcas Society and Quilter's Club. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed the company of her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and quilting. In her leisure time, Adela enjoyed palying cards and was a member of several card clubs. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband in 1984, and one brother, Fred Zage in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Listamann and her husband, Delaine, Beverly Nelson and her husband, Kenneth Jr., all of Denison, four grandchildren, Debra Grossman of Carroll; Delaine Nelson of Manilla, David Nelson of Ida Grove, Darla Kruse of Alpha, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren, Justin Grossman, Melissa and Jessica Nelson, Alyson Kruse and Tasha Nelson; one sister-in-law, Lavern Zage of Denison, also many other relatives and friends.
Jones, John F
John F. Jones Dies; Was Engineer Here
John F. Jones of 113 West Myrtle, for 40 years a resident of Canton and vicinity died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Reed of 54 West Myrtle Street, yesterday afternoon following an illness of a week of bronchial asthma and heart trouble.
Mr. Jones has been an engineer, both in mines in this vicinity and at the high School and city pumping station for many years, and has many friends in and around Canton.
He was born in Southern Wales on July 16, 1853, and came to this country when he was 21 years of age. He was married
to Martha L. Bennett, who died Nov. 5, 1922. Following are the children surviving: Mrs. McClellen Diebert and Mrs. Robert G. Reed of Canton, Mrs. Anna J. Holms of Joy, William of San Francisco, and Mrs. Harry Thompson of Pontiac, Ill. One son died in infancy.
He was a member of the church of Latter Day Saints.
The funeral services will be held at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Reed on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Jones, Martha L. (Bennett)
Mrs. Martha L. Jones Died Sunday Morning At Graham Hospital
Mrs. Martha L. Jones, 85 West Vine Street, died at the Graham hospital yesterday morning at 8:40 o’clock.
She was a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William Bennett and was born in South Wales, July 16, 1851. She came to America 70 years ago and has resided in Canton for the past 35 years.
She is survived by her husband, John F. Jones to whom she was married
in Bryant. She is also survived by the following children: Mrs. M. C. Dibert, Canton; Mrs. Robert Reed, Canton; Mrs. Annie J. Holmes, Joy; Mrs. H. L. Thompson, Pontiac; Edward Jones, Kewannee; William M. Jones, San Francisco, Calif. There is one surviving sister, Mrs. J. C. Jacobs of Green Lake, Wis.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and was a woman held in high esteem by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, internment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Reed, George B
Former Canton Resident Dies in Oregon
George B. Reed, a resident of Canton and Breeds for many years, died Saturday afternoon in Grants Pass, Ore., where he has made his home for the past five years. He had been suffering for a month from heart trouble. Mr. Reed was a coal miner while living in this vicinity.
He was born Dec. 23, 1852, in Cornwall, England, a son of Robert and Caroline (Jones) Reed. His first wife was Mary Jane Hutching. Fifty four years ago, Mr. Reed was married
to Julia Mussey. Surviving children are Mrs. Myrtle Burrell, of Pennsylvania; Mrs. Ella Christy, of Washington; Mrs. Clara Straley, of Grants Pass, Ore.; and Robert of Canton.
Stephen Reed, Peoria, is a brother, and Mrs. Ella Brown, Breeds, a sister.
Mr. Reed was a member of the Odd fellows.
The body will arrive here at 11 o’clock Thursday morning. Friends may call at the Murphy Memorial home. Funeral arrangements are in complete, but burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Kinnamon, Hugh B
Hugh, Kinnamon, 62, Dies Here Sunday; Rites Held Wednesday
Hugh B. Kinnamon, 62, of Woodstock Township died suddenly Sunday afternoon in the Culbertson Memorial hospital. He had been admitted as a patient late Saturday. He had retired a year ago as a brakeman on the Rock Island railroad due to ill health.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Voorhees- Hursey Memorial home. The Rev. LeRoy Cronkhite officiated; burial was in the Rushville cemetery.
Mr. Kinnamon was born in Rushville November 16, 1895, the son of Matt and Elnora Kinnamon. He was educated in the Rushville schools, served in World War I, and was a member of Schuyler Post No.4, American Legion. He married
twice, first to Miss Virginia Sanford; to this union was born one son, Stanley of Midlothian.
On November 29, 1952 he was married
to Miss Ruth Pilger, who survives with a daughter, Lois Elizabeth, three. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Prescott of Winnebago and Mrs. Pearl Skiles of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Jean Kinnamon, two grandsons, Stephen and Robert of Midlothian; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Kinnamon and Mrs. Jennie Kinnamon. Two brothers, Clem and Jesse and a sister, Ada, preceded him in death.

Mayme Klinedinst
Mayme Maxine Klinedinst, 96, of Vermont, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born Dec. 7, 1905, in Bernadotte, the daughter of Harry L. and Eva Ann Thompson Tuthill. She married
Russell Walter Klinedinst on March 31, 1924, in Havana. He died Feb. 6, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Luther (wife Nina) Klinedinst of Bushnell and William Klinedinst of Vermont; two daughters, Dorothy Jane (husband Richard) Parry of Macomb and Virginia (husband Harry) Thomas of Littleton; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and one step great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in the Ipava Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Vermont Fire Department.

Reed, Julia
Mrs. Julia Reed Dies Wednesday in Grants Pass, Ore.
Mrs. Julia Reed died at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, in Grants Pass, Ore.
She was born Feb. 11, 1865 in Coal Valley, Ill., a daughter of James and Jane Muzzy and was married
June 29, 1880 to George B. Reed, who died in 1933.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Clara Straley of Grants Pass, Ore., with whom she had made her home; Mrs. Ella Krische, Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Myrtle Burrell of Newark, Del.; twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Jake Muzzy, Bryant.
Robert G. Reed, a son died Feb. 1, 1951; a brother and a sister also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reed was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Camp No. 90 and the Rebekah Lodge of Canton.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in the Murphy Memorial home by the Rev. J. Dewey Muir, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Memorial home after 5 p.m. Monday.
